OS X Mavericks using SWAP with 16GB of physical RAM? What gives?
Okay. Can someone help me understand why OS X Mavericks is using SWAP and Memory compression when I have 16GB of Physical Memory installed? I'm also only running Safari, Mail.app, Colloquy IRC and iTunes. That's usually the only programs I have open unless I'm playing a game or something. Also, when I reboot, the RAM is back to normal, but after my Macbook Pro has been on a couple of days (I usually have it plugged into the wall), it starts use SWAP in Activity Monitor and Memory Compression. Here's a picture I took before I rebooted, and I will always post my system wide information in case anyone has any ideas on how to keep my computer from using Swap in OS X Mavericks:

Here is how to see RAM overloaded…
Reboot to see the system in it's default state.
Open TextEdit for the sake of it
Open Activity Monitor & Terminal from /Applications/Utilities.
Select the Memory tab
In Terminal enter the following command
memory_pressure -l critical
# note that is a lowercase L
RAM usage will climb, compression will begin the VM will become way more than the system has installed.
Eventually the system will start swapping (look for RED) - Watch the 'memory pressure' & 'Swap used' as this happens.
Try switching to TextEdit - the system is still coping !
Switch back to Terminal & hit ctrl+c to stop the process.
Watch the VM & memory pressure return to normal levels.
This OS kicks 4ss !

I'm having the problem, that my first accordion panel doesn't initialize hidden, so I wrote this method. Later on I noticed, that the accordions were somehow cached, so the URL params given whithin the source weren't right anymore. This might be, because I gave name attributes to the layoutareas. I added an UUID to the name attribute so the source wasn't cached anymore. But now it doesn't seem to find the cflayout container anymore. (I checked the name of the layoutarea and the temporary saved uuid, they are the same.)
I tried using cfhtmlhead instead, but that didn't seem to work neither.So I've been searching the whole day yesterday and many hours today and this is what I got:

When you install or update software you will often be asked for permission to change the system. This will need your computer's administrator password, chosen when the computer was switched on the very first time. It is nothing to do with the Adobe password.

This happened to me (twice) when iCloud first came out -- and I have steered clear of iCloud ever since. But I just recently upgraded to Mavericks, and they took local sync away!! Anyone still having this issue with iCloud?? I will not send accepted messages for old meetings three times!

My quicktime is very jerky with 1080p video but when I play the video file in FCPX its smooth. I recently upgraded to OS mavericks on 2011 iMac with 16gb of ram and should not be having this problem. Is it possible to reinstall older software? I cant figure whats causing the jerky video so I'm assuming its the new OS. Any one have any suggestions?
I have the same but not the same problem. When I play a sound or a video on a website (other than youtube)on safari, a weird nois is comeing from the speakers, the sound has pops/clicks but if I play the same video/sound on mozilla it works fine.. If wnyone know what's the problem.. please let us know

I went through this scenario on my 11R1 data guard setup and had different outcome.

commit;Then I flashback to restore_me and after open reset logs I query the database. Only first two rows are there. Also media recovery is broken.
I open readonly standby and query the table. All five rows are there. Obviously the flashback has not affected standby.
I logged a call with Oracle and they advised that I have to manually flashback standby database to that point in time. same applies to 11R2.

Hi, I got really massive problems with crashes of Logic. I have a absolute clean and new system with nothing more than Logic and OSX!

The most crashes I got when I have loaded lots of stuff in the EXS and after that opening the Logic preferences (over the menu) or closing that song and opening a new one. It doesn't matter if I use the internal audio driver or an external (Fireface400)
Any suggestions?

first of all the terminal top is showing the same.
The problem should everyone of you simply rebuild. I got some (expensive) new 2 GB (now 5 GB at all) but nothing changes because Logic is only able to adress 2 GB Ram. I thought that was a joke, but it's not. Everytime Logic is using more than 2GB the activity window is showing this 16mio stuff.
So, what is that???
I can put 16GB Ram into my Computer and am able to use just 2 of them??? The MacPro is fast enough to open 100 of EXS but can't load instruments? I am really frustrated.
So, does anyone has any advice how I could make the physical Ram used by Logic smaller? I tried to use harddisc speed fast and recording activity less in the virtual memory, but than I can use about one instrument more (28 at all). What is with other samplers like Kontakt. Is it using the same Ram logic is using or does it use a new thread and it's own Ram? Does Redmaticas EXS Manager merge function is of any use against too much Ram using instruments?
Any advice would be very very great!!!!

What to do with 16GB of ECC ram
I recently purchased a Quad off of ebay and i came with believe it or not 16GB or ram. Now im not going to brag about the killer deal i got, i was just wondering what i should do with it all.
I at most need 4gb, thats what i run in my dual 2.7. I primarily use Maya to do 3D work, then i of course use FCP studio to assemble the videos.
Saying this, you realize i have no need for that much ram and i am wondering, What do i do with it. My first thoughts are:
go into a job that requires an app that can use it all (yeah ok....no) or
sell it on ebay where it came from and upgrade my crummy stock video card
if anyone has other suggestions let me know

Using TM with Drobo on Airport Extr - what format? HFS+ or Mac OS Extended?
I have a Drobo that I used to connect directly to my iMac, which was in HFS+ format. I've recently purchased an Airport Extreme, to which I want to attach my Drobo so it can be used as a shared USB drive for all my other Macs. When I redirect Time Machine to the Drobo that is now attached to the Airport Extreme, an error pops up that says, "The backup volume is not in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, which is required."
Do I need to reformat my Drobo to Mac OS Extended or is there some workaround? What should I do?

That's a bit overstated, I'm afraid. I've never used a Drobo (directly attached or not) or any network drive with TM. About all I can say is, some folks with directly-attached Drobos seem to get it to work well, others don't. Some of the network hardware/software seems to work sometimes, sometimes not. Many that had worked fine in Leopard no longer work in Snow Leopard, apparently because of some changes or new features Apple started using that aren't supported by all NAS devices.
One thing to keep in mind is, although they never say it explicitly, Apple designed TM with novice to intermediate users in mind. Folks who've never used any sort of backup app at all, and won't unless it's very simple and easy. Thus the automatic deletion of the oldest backups, for example, so users don't have to manage the space themselves. While it will work in some fairly heavy-duty and complex situations, it's just not designed as an "enterprise class" app.
I'm pretty thoroughly confused right now, so I'm basically trying to figure out what the best options are for me. I have 3 computers (two with Snow Leopard, one with Leopard), one Airport Extreme, one Drobo, and of course Time Machine. Should/can I use my Drobo (dechamp suggests that the NetGear product is worth looking at)? If so, should I connect it to one computer to share or get a Droboshare device to share via ethernet (I've already eliminated the possibility of attaching my Drobo to the Airport Extreme)?
Since you've already got it, I'd be inclined to try it connected to the iMac; back the iMac up to it directly, and the others via sharing. In that case, partition it if you can (I've heard Drobos can't be partitioned), so at least the iMac has it's own, exclusive space (see #4 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum). If you can partition it, you may or may not want to make separate partitions for the drives being backed-up separately.
#4 in the FAQ Tip applies mostly to Macs being backed-up directly; for backups in a sparse bundle, you can simply delete the sparse bundle if you have or want to delete all of them.
Or try it attached to the Airport. If it works, it works, at least for now.

Correct. The Backups.backupdb folder is inside the sparse bundle, which doesn't sound like a big difference, but it is. The sparse bundle has it's own *Partition Map Scheme* (APM) and Format (Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, journaled)) which you can't change.

They're not useless, as you can still access and restore from them via the +*Browse ...+* option (see #17 in the FAQ Tip), but the old and new sets are completely separate. Also, TM won't delete the oldest of the old ones when it needs room for new backups. You get to do that yourself, either by deleting the Backups.backupdb folder (emptying the trash will take a very long time), or one-by one via TM (see #12 in the FAQ Tip). -
I have a PowerPC G5 quad core Mac with a pre-intel chip. I have been running Firefox successfully for over five years and have used every version in operation during that time. Tonight, I received notice that the latest version of 3.6 was ready to install and that I needed to restart. I did that and was taken to a page telling me that 4.0 was available for downloading and use. So I downloaded the new 4.0 and tried to install it in the typical Mac fashion. After clicking on the dmg, I dragged the icon into my applications folder and onto the dock. But when I click on the icon on the dock, I get the message: The application cannot be launched. 10661
When I try to launch by double clicking in the applications folder, I get the message: You cannot open the application Firefox because it is not supported on this system.
I had to go to your site using Safari of all things! I tried re-installing it with another download, and that one misbehaves in the same way. By the way, in case it matters, I still have 42 GB available on my hard drive and 5 GB of RAM.
There is one other funny thing. The Firefox icon from the disk image has a white circle with the slash through it on top of the fox and world symbol. That is what appears in my applications folder and in my dock. It appears to be saying NOT FIREFOX, as it would indicate in a NO U-TURN sign. What is this all about?I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.

I'm trying to register an OCX file that my video editing application requires to work properly.
I'm using a Registry (Regsvr32 and Regsvr64) tool to Register DLL/OCX files. Both bit Registry tools work fine. I can Register any DLL or OCX file with Windows 7 x64 and everything goes smoothly.
But, when in Windows 7 x32, again, no problem with merging the Regsvr32 tool, but when I go to register the OCX file message says it was loaded but the DllRegisterServer failed with error: 0x80004005.

My Video Editing software was working fine a few days ago in Windows 7 x64. Tried using it this morning....couldn't load the .mpg video clip. Just stood there looking stupid like it does in the 32-bit version of Windows 7.
I was hoping the x64 version of Windows 7 RC 7100 was going to make a decent run against my XP Pro SP3 setup. When I was able to register the required .ocx file for the video editing application, I thought "cool". I made a TV recording then used the Video Editor to edit it and it worked fine. Earlier this morinng I made another TV recording, went to go edit it and the video editing application couldn't load the .mpg file at all. All-of-Sudden file hangs on PC. After saving on Mac. Used to take file between systems. What gives?
I began a project on AE CC on my PC with most updated version of After Effects.
I have been moving this project between my PC and Mac with no problem -- for 8 months.
No plug-ins used.
All of a sudden the file will HANG on the PC.
This occurred after making a simple chage or two on my Mac and saving the project.
The change was nothing more than some adjustments to simple effects like HSL effect.
The odd thing is that it has been working fine with this workflow for 8 MONTHS.
Routinely -- I Open on AE CC on PC. Make Changes. Save as CS6 so I can open on Mac AE CS6.
Open on MAC CS6. Make changes. Save
Repeat process. Blah.
8 mos later...White Screen After Effects "TRIES" to preview a frame but hangs indefinately.
I can go back to a way previous version with luck but...
Well, anyone have any ideas to get the project to be more compliant.What has changed between when it worked and now? What has updated?
Which versions fo the Mac OS are you running? Which version of Windows are you running?
What version of CS6 are you running and what version of CC are you running?
Does it happen in more than one project or just this one?
What happens if you create a new project and import that project into it? -

It reads like this is a problem on the iOS side. On your iPhone or iPad launch the notes app, in the top left corner tap the button until you are on the Accounts page and see if iCloud is an option. If it is select that option and new notes will push to your Mac. If its not close the Notes app and go to Settings > iCloud > Notes > Toggle On. The option will now be in the notes app as described above. Side note: You may be asked to set up an iCloud email if you haven't already. Hope that helps.

I am using Oracle 9i. I have a requirement where I have a REFCURSOR as an OUT parameter for my procedure. I have declared the TYPE and created the procedure.
In the procedure, I am using OPEN <cursor_name> FOR <query>;
Ideally this works in most of the cases that I have tried earlier. However, in the current case I am using a WITH clause in my query to get the results.
I need help in understanding if the above mentioned syntax would not allow me to use the WITH clause in the query.What error do you get , seems to work ok for me on 10g
