OS X Mavericks won't start downloading for me

I went to the App Store, clicked the download button and then the green free install button thingy and the icon for Mavericks went to my Launchpad. It says it is downloading but I've waited for an hour and it still hasn't responded at all. When i went back to my App Store and checked if it's in my purchased tab, it wasn't. I deleted Mavericks and started to download it again but the result is still the same. Does anybody have the same problem? Please help me. Thanks.

If you do have an iMac, Late 2012, restart the iMac holding the Command+Option+R keys so you boot from the Apple internet servers, you must be on the internet to do that.  You can then choose Install Mac OS X and reinstall your operating system.  Then proceed to go to the Mac App Store and download and install Mavericks.

I suspect that many developers are ending app support for older devices.  It's probably time for an upgrade.
While that may be true... it's simply a mis-informed response at this time.
The iPhone 4 and 3GS are both still fully supported, as is the 3G.
If you have nothing useful to add, it is generally best to not comment.
    To the OP:
Does the device have a functional Internet connection, either Cellular data or Wi-Fi?
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Mavericks wont even start download

I have 10.6.8, plenty of space, and a strong internet connection.
When I click "Install" next to Mavericks in the "Featured" section of the App Store the button changes to say "Downloading" and a Mavericks icon appears in the dock with one of those download progress bars but nothing happens - the bar never shows any progress. When I look in the "Purchases" area Mavericks is listed and there is download button to its right. When I click that it changes to say "downloading" but still nothing happens in the progress bar in the dock (if I right click it it says "downloading" but no progress ever occurs).
If I go to "Check for Unfinished Downloads" in the App Store I get a message that says "All purchases have been downloaded for this account."
I have cancelled the download and tried this a few times. I read a bunch of discussions and articles and saw that I should install my system updates. So I cancelled the download, again, installed my system updates, restarted the computer and tried to start the download process again but it behaved the same way - except now when I look at "Purchases" the "download" button next Maverick's flickers back and forth between being an empty rectangle and a download button and the scroll bar appears and dissappears.
Lots of forum posts mention using LaunchPad but I don't have it.
    Any help is much appreciated.

Try this yet, and if it doesn't work, follow Ned's advice.

  • App Store won't start download the OS X Yosemite free upgrade

I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch mid 2012. My current MacOS is OS X 10.6.8.
I didn't get to upgrade to OS X 10.9 when there was the free upgrade because I forgot to download it.
Now I want to download the OS X 10.10 but when I click the "Get" button or "Free Upgrade" button, the license agreement won't come out and the download won't start. It just stay the same even after I clicked the button.
    What should I do?

I am having the same problem. I have a 15" MBP from mid-2010 running 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
    All updates have been applied.
When I go to the App Store, locate Yosemite and click on "download", nothing happens.
As an experiment, I tried installing other free apps from the App Store - I tried Kindle and
Memory Clean. Same issue - I click on "Install" and nothing happens.
Still digging - open to advice.
    Thanks

  • Mavericks won't launch downloaded apps

    Hi all,
this is my first post, and I'm writing from my new first MacBook!
I just bought it some weeks ago, and most of the time I had problems installing new apps dowloaded from the web.
When I had to install softwares from DMG they have always been working fine - I guess, as far as I remember.
But when it's about .zip files with apps in it, they never worked.
I tried to launch them from the same folder, to move them in Application, to move them on dock..they just won't start!
They don't bounce, they don't have open, they don't give any error message...anything at all!
Do you have any clue about how to solve this?
    Thanks!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Update download OS x Mavericks won't start

When i try to start the download of OS X Mavericks in the app store, nothing happens.
    Download doesn't start.

Same here.   OSX 10.7.5. UK. In App Store.  Click on Mavericks Icon/banner "Upgrade" which turns to "Install" which then turns to "Downloading" after entered my Apple ID (tried 2 different ID).    The purchases pane does show Mavericks but with a dark grew "Download" button.  Click this and it momentarily greys out and then reverts to dark grey "Download". Never a progress bar.   In launchpad I can see the Mavericks icon and can pause and resume, but it appears not to make any difference.
I have gone into my account in one of my Apple IDs and found a purchase "Hidden" but unhiding it didn't seem to change anything.

  • Pages on Mavericks won't open downloaded Google Drive docs

How can I force Mavericks to let Pages open downloaded Google Drive docs?
I installed Mavericks and then reverted back to iWork 09 but Pages now won't open files in .docx format that I download from Google Drive.
    I get error:
The document “5TThinkPiece.docx” couldn’t be opened.
This is one of the biggest #firstworldproblems I can imagine; if Mavericks isn't comptatible with Google Drive then the Mac has to go, because Gdrive > Computer.

I had the same problem, but fixed it.
Having bought the CD-ROM with iWork way back updates for this does not appear automatically in Mavericks App Store. However, after downloading the update for iWork here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1563?viewlocale=en_US
    - Pages works like a charm again when it comes to opening all kind of Word documents.
Hope this will help you also.

  • Photoshop CC won't start downloading.

I have already purchased Adobe Creative Cloud Photography, and I am verified. When I try to download Photoshop CC or Lightroom, the download won't even start even thought it says its downloading.

Are you using the "Creative Cloud" app to download?

  • Indesign won't start downloading process on Windows 8.1.

I've tried to download CC InDesign muptiple times but it doesn't get past the initalizing installer, infact it doesn't even start initalizing, the pop up screens shows up and then it just sits there.  I've restarted to computer a couple times and tried again.  I've gone through my temp files and made sure no files were left over and tried again.  Still nothing.  Help!!

Natia09123 I would recommend reviewing your installation logs for InDesign CC to determine the error which is preventing you from installing the software.  Please see Troubleshoot install issues with log files | CC - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cc.html for information on how to locate and interpert your installation log files.  You are welcome to post any specific errors you discover to this discussion thread.

  • Mavericks Won't Re-Download

I already have Mavericks on my iMac and would like to re-install to see if it fixes some issues.  I tried to download again from the Apps store and I get this message:
When I click on Continue, the above goes away but NOTHING happens.  Of course, nothing happens on the Updates page either.

    Hello yalK,
Thank you for the question.  When Mavericks is already installed on your computer, you can reinstall using the Recovery partition on your iMac:
OS X Mavericks: Reinstall OS X
Use the built-in recovery disk to reinstall OS X while keeping your files and user settings intact.
Important: You must be connected to the Internet to reinstall OS X.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
If you’re not connected to the Internet, choose a network from the Wi-Fi menu (in the top-right corner of the screen).
Select Reinstall OS X, then click Continue.
Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select a disk, select your current OS X disk (in most cases, it’s the only one available).

  • Maverick won't start

I am working with OS X Lion 10.7.5  on my IMac 20" from 2009. Now, I am trying to upgrade to OS X Maverick.
As soon I hit the icon "install app", no other indication shows me the download is continuing....
What should be my next step? I am working behind a wireless router, but those indications are all fine.
    All help is really appriciated....
    Sincerely,

Have a look at 'Stalled Download' in this link: http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/10/mavericks-issues-and-fixes/#slideid-23477 1
Also, some users have found that logging out ot the Mac App Store and then back in and starting over has kick-started the process.

  • Apps won't start downloading

Hi, I just got a new iPad mini. I set it up using wifi from my iPhone, but I could not download my already-purchased apps or music from the store.
When I tap the install button, the app will try to load for a moment, then it kinda just stop - but the loading bar is gone. I have repeated this several times with different items, but the same thing happens. The problem is that it is not a stalled download; it would not even start.
I've tried signing out, resetting, and signing back in, but didn't work. Signing in on the AppStore page also did not work.
Any idea on how to fix this issue?
Haven't tried connecting to my Mac though, but that isn't really the issue.
    Thanks in advance.

I have read that this is working for a lot of users. Maybe it is referenced in the threads that lllaass has posted.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Cache. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
