OS X Mountain Lion & Apple TV

Hi, I have a mid 2011 mac running OS X Lion 10.7.5 and I have just purchased an apple tv. I can not get the apple tv icon at the top of my screen but I can get it in itunes.
My question is, if I pay the $21 to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion will I get the apple tv icon at the top of my screen so I can mirror my mac on my tv?
Cheers,

Yes

  • OS X Mountain Lion - Apple mail not displaying images

Ever since upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion a few weeks ago, Apple Mail no longer displays images in emails.  I have downloaded and installed the latest Java RTE [it was out of date] - that didn't fix it.  I have tried to reset my Java preferences to their defaults - that didn't fix it.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?  If so, have you found a solution?
    Thanks in advance!

I have exactly the same problem although its not for every email. My email provider is gmail. If I forward an email to someone else, they have no problem viewing the images. Very annoying. Checked with my gmail account and these are not classed as spam.

  • Mountain Lion - Apple I have been downloading mountain lion for 5 hours now, and its still not processing! This is not good please sort out!

Ok, I'm now getting really annoyed with downloading Mountain Lion. I left my Mac Book Pro - 6 month old in download mode all night and nothing! I have started again and in 5 hours about 5%!
What is going on - Apple is this good customer service?

It could be your Internet connection and not the Apple servers. I downloaded it again (although I already had the GM developer version) over a very slow Internet connection and it took about 3 1/2 hours. You can always pause and then resume the download - Lauchpad will let you know how your download is proceeding.

  • Mountain lion apple mail vanishes mail after reading

after installing mountain lion, mails in apple mail vanish seconds after being readed

Sorry. I don't use Exchange, and I don't recognize the symptoms. Certainly, they do not match my experience with Mail in Mountain Lion. Let me ask a few more questions.
Just to be clear: The messages disappear just after being read, not just after being downloaded? They are visible until you read them?
Corindagal, if Find sees them in the Inbox, I agree that it's just a display problem. Any chance you are reading through a "smart mailbox" set to show only unread messages? Might your Inbox be sorted by read/unread?
Also, what mail reader were you using prior to Mountain Lion? Apple's Mail in a previous system? What level?

  • Mountain Lion - Apple Care - Wifi - etc.

Not tried to set one up recently, but AppleTV 2 and 3 don't seem to play well with WEP which may be the issue here.

  • Mountain Lion, Apple TV and computer to computer network

    Hi there,
I have a second generation Apple TV with the 5.2 software update.
As per these instructions, I cannot seem to create a computer to computer network which the Apple TV will recognise.
The computer to computer network I create works because my iPhone can find and connect to it. But the Apple TV cannot even find it.
I cannot use the Internet Sharing feature because I do not have an Internet connection (or any other network connection) to share from any other input (ethernet, etc) on my Mac.
    What are my options? Thanks!
    Kiel

  • Apple mail wont start after Mountain Lion update

    Hi,
After the upgrade to Mountain Lion, Apple Mail is not working, it will hang and in Activity Monitor will display  "Not responding".
Doesnt anybody knows how to repair this?
    Best regards

Sorry for the delay. I mean a new user profile. Go to preferences / users / +
After that I restarted the computer and used this new profile to link my email account and iCloud. And copied all my files. Luckily most of my data is in an external hard drive. A particular time consuming task was to rebuild my iTunes library.
This I is a major internvention and I wouldn't have done it if I could had avoided in another way. It was impossible to work not only te email and address book but the whole computer crashed very often. I noticed that other users didn't had this problem.

  • I want to install mountain Lion on an external drive without uninstalling Maverick from my computer

When I want to get mountain Lion, apple store telles me that I have Maverick installed. How can I charge the M Lion version to install on an external drive?

You would need to download a copy from the Mac App Store or already have a copy of the installer. Then you can make a bootable USB drive using DiskMaker X (http://liondiskmaker.com).   Once you created the USB disk, you can boot from that and install Mt Lion on the external drive.

  • Do i have to buy a new machine to install Mountain Lion?

I have a MacBook and have snow leopard.  Will I not be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion?  It is frustrating since moving to iCloud and now my Mac mail server will not work unless I have mountain lion, as I was told by Apple sales person.  Also, I have paid for what was once .mac and then MobileMe for years and now with the move to iCloud, I would still pay the $99 annual fee just to have my Mac mail account.  I have other email options but I like the Mac one for family use.
Are there any options for other than to buy a new machine which I was not expecting do to for another couple of years or so.  I like my MacBook.  It was purchased 1/2007.
That seems to be a bad answer for all pre-2008 MacBook users who were used to using the mail function and now can't.  I don't need the other features of mountain lion.

Apple has tightened its requirements for this OS upgrade, and some older Macs— even ones that qualified for Lion — won't make the cut for Mountain Lion.
The general system requirements are straightforward:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
Apple also lists which models support Mountain Lion:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
So it appears you Cannot run Mountain Lion on that machine.
    Hope this helps

  • I have a Macbook Pro 2010 can I still upgrade to Mountain Lion?

Can I still upgrade to Mountain Lion?

Yes, see > OS X Mountain Lion - Apple Store (U.S.)
You could also go to Mavericks, see > Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mavericks.

  • OS X Mountain Lion download error

receiving error message "The application could not be downloaded" Download starts and gets to about 120mb then stops and returns error message. Console log shows 'failed to authorize right 'system.install.apple-software'
Running Lion 10.7.5 on an unfiltered ethernet connection
    any ideas? thanks

Make certain your Mac qualifies to run Mountain Lion >  Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
Installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo) reinstalls the App Store for you which may help.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed. It's ok to do this even though your Mac is already running v10.7.4.
    Then try downloading Mountain Lion.
Keep in mind, for downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk using Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.

  • Printing osx mountain lion

In Mountain Lion, Apple has apparently lobotomized my HP Photosmart Premium 310C with their lame printer driver(s) and HP says - go to Apple for the driver.
The HP 310C has a photo print tray which can hold 5x7 or 4x6 or 3x5 print paper, a standard 8.5x11 print tray, a scanner, color copy capability and memory card feature. It is also both wired network and wireless network capable and the photo memory card reader in the printer can beused to print form the card directly or send the photos to Aperture or iPhoto. The printer is only 2 years old.
Under Lion and Snow leopard, the HP printer drivers supplied with the printer gave me such functionality as:
    •  Photo print tray & main 8.5x11 tray. The "new" Apple print drivers don't recognize the range of paper sizes, give me choice of whether to use the photo tray or not, and has a more limited print preview and set of print options.
    •   The "old" HP drivers gave me a wide range of flexibility from Aperture and Preview to customize my print settings for graphics output or photographic output. Ditto from programs like Photoshop and Corel Sketch. Now all I get is very limited "snapshot" prints only for the casual, non-professioinal photographer. I am a professiionial Apple! Why have you lobotomized my very capable printer!
    •  Flexible scanning, including selecting the area to scan, deciding how to handle graphics vs. text, a preview to determine how best to scan, an array of dpi scan settings and several methods of output: jpeg, PDF, OCR text, RTF text, etc..  Much of this functionality has disappeared.
    •  Trying to use the printer to read a memory stick duo (Sony) or SDC card into Aperture does not work any more. The Apple provided driver appears to recognize the memory slot as available, but Aperture (3.4.1) cannot "see" it.
As a result I am limited in my printing options to having to change papers in the main tray for each type of photo size I want to print, and am limited by the print driver lobotomizing Apple's own software capabilities to print high quality photos out of Aperture or Preview. Both Preview and Aperture give me presets and customization settings to tweak the output to my liking. This includes paper sizes, paper types, whether to handle color via the printer or via the settings inside Aperture, which print tray to use, and how to handle color output.
All of that is lobotmixed toa print capability dumbed down to the average casual iPhone/iPad photographer who only wants to print a snapshot of Jr. looking cute today for Grandma who still scrapbooks. Yes they should be able to do that and simply. But to prevent me from using the full capabilit of the machine - is that logical?
Apple - are you as a company going backward to pre Apple I days? You took the Photosmart & Premium out of the Printer!
Please update your print Driver for the HP 310C and give me my HP Photosmart Premium 310C back again!
And Apple tech support listen (Read) carefully - I am using the Apple generated HP driver for a HP Photosmart Premium 310C.

    Hi Clydearch,
First of all Apple isn't listening here. This is a user-to-user technical support forum, so complaints will fall on deaf ears.
Second, HP is responsible for creating their drivers, not Apple. Apple merely distributes them through the App Store.
Third, HP has never cared very much for the Mac market.
Finally, make sure you are not missing anything about your printer's options in OS X's standard Print dialog. Many functions have been hidden in dropdown menus, such as this in Safari's Print dialog:
If your printer has various paper handling options, you will find them there. Same for photograph - specific settings and paper types.
Scanning is also very different in Lion / ML. All your previous options are most likely still available. You can adjust resolution, paper size, file format, everything you did in the past. You simply do this in different ways. Here is a screenshot from Preview, which now performs scanning functions directly:
You will probably find all the options you need there. The Image Capture program also performs scanning functions, as well as the Scan tab in System Preferences > Print & Scan.
All this is radically different from previous versions of OS X. I consider it an overall improvement since there has been no loss of function, and HP's proprietary software for scanning and such was always abysmal in OS X.
Lastly, if you want to get a printer from a quality manufacturer with good support, one that is guaranteed to work well with OS X Mountain Lion and everything likely to come after it, avoid HP. They have had over a decade to adapt to this market and I gave up waiting for them a long time ago.
    Hope this helps.

  • Did OSX Mountain Lion change cursor behavior in mail?

Just upgraded to OSX Lion (working like a charm) and I just noticed that the cursor showing "current message" in mail seems to be behaving differently.  I have my mail sorted with the most recent at the top and as I move down, they become older.  Before, when I deleted a mail the cursor showed the next most recent mail as current (it moved up) - which I really didn't like since I had to move the cursor down to see the next oldest.  Today with the upgrade the cursor stays put and the next oldest mail is moving up to become the current mail.  I really do like this and wanted to check if I am imagining things.  Thanks.
