OS X Mountain Lion is temporarily unavailable.

I have uninstalled all user files in an effort to start over on my system. I am able to make it as far as the sign in screen in Install OS X and then while waiting for the Mac App store to download OS X Mountain Lion I receive the following message, "This item is temporarily unavailable. Try again later" How do I proceed with reinstalling my OS when it is temporarily unavailable? I am now unable to use my MacBook Pro at all as every time I turn it on it will go directly to the OS X disc utility.

My problem has been solved after contacting Apple Care Support. Mountain Lion was not available and they informed me that we would need to reinstall Lion. They had me go through a process to force to my 2011 MacBook Pro to start directly from Apple’s servers. I restarted my Mac while holding  Command+Option+R until I saw a spinning globe appear along with a message about the recovery mode. Upon completion of the recovery the computer rebooted automatically and I then setup my account and finalized the settings in OS X Lion. Afterwards I was able to effortlessly upgrade to OS X Maverick 10.9.4.
Thank you Apple for the three follow up calls to verify that everything was running smoothly during the three hour process. It's service like yours that keeps your customers coming back.
Sincerely, EMRTECH.

  • Can't login after Mountain Lion upgrade (Network accounts are unavailable)

I performed a Mountain Lion upgrade on a 2011 MBP running Lion this weekend. The Mac may have been set up to connect to an AD server with my user account, but I thought I had disabled that months ago... aparently not. I performed the upgrade at home not on the corporate network.
On first bootup after the Mountain Lion upgrade I'm stuck at the login screen unable to login with my local account or the admin account. I get the "red dot" next to the username field with the "Network accounts are unavailable" pop up. I'm plugged in to the ethernet network at work now... no luck.
I tried booting into the repair disk and repairing disk permissions. Still no luck.
Any ideas? I'd happily do a fresh install but I need to get a handful of files off the machine first.

No worries with the basic questions... it's important to cover all the bases. Thanks so much for the input.
    - I'm trying to log in with the same username I would use to ssh in... so yes.
    - I don't know if the account was a mobile account. The Mac was given to me configured about a year ago, configured to be on the domain. I since have used it on and off many networks without considering it was set up to be on a domain.
    - Never had a problem logging into the machine before the mountain lion install, although to be honest it was very very rarely ever rebooted.
    - I've plugged it into ethernet and let it sit for quite some time. It's still telling me Network accounts are unavailable and I'm unable to login with my personal or admin account.

  • Mac OS X Mountain Lion unavailable for download in Nigeria Apple Store.

My Apple ID is logged into Nigeria Apple Store but Apple says MAC OS X Mountain Lion is unavailable for download.....please advise.

Thanks for the interest Dah*veed, much appreciated.  However, as you rightly mentioned, I'd successfully purchased the Mt Lion from  Nigeria MAS but paused the download due to low  speed. I'm currently in Europe hoping to resume  download, ONLY to  get the error "...... Mt Lion not available in Nigeria MAS".  I  tried to get the download going without any luck.  Kindly let me know what other options are there, if any.  Thank you.

  • Java SE 6 Runtime unavailable on Mountain Lion

I bought OS X Mountain Lion from the App Store today (previously on Lion 10.7.4) and it downloaded and installed itself apparently without issue. However, when I checked back on my machine (Mid 2011 MacBook Pro) after letting it boot up properly I had a message telling me that I needed to install the Java SE 6 Runtime environment - so, I click yes and wait for it to find and install the software, only for it to fail and complain that the software is currently unavailable.
I've tried using the Applications > Utilities > Java Preferences application; I've tried going in to the terminal and typing 'java -v'; I've tried rebooting (and shutting down, then turning back on again); I've tried using Disk Utility to verify the disk - all to no avail: I keep getting the same outcome. I've had a look on the Java website to see if I could get the software there, but it just tells me to use the Apple Software Update feature. Sadly, I can't use the Software Update feature, as it takes me to the Mac App Store now (which doesn't work either, as it complains about being unable to verify its connection with itself).
Anyone got any clue how to solve this? I've looked at other threads here and also browsed other sites, but the only solutions suggested were the ones I listed above.
    Thanks.

    Alexj55,
I just tried this (I was simply trying to verify whether my removal of Java 7 worked :-):
I opened a Terminal and just typed "java".  Mac OSX knew that there was no JRE installed and offered to install one.  I agreed.  When I did a "java -version" from the terminal after the install was complete, I found that it had installed 1.6u33:
    dhcp-110-03:~ twolf$ java -version
    java version "1.6.0_33"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_33-b03-424-11M3720)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.8-b03-424, mixed mode)
You might want to give that a try.  It was 16:00 US Eastern time when I did this.  Good luck.

    Tom,
Thanks for the suggestion. Glad to hear some progress is being made by someone! Sadly though, this did not work for me; I got the same error as before. Sticking with it.

  • Just upgraded to lion and now my iTunes says the store is temporarily unavailable and it is unable to check for downloads

I only upgraded to Lion because of iCloud. I have an AppleTV, an iPhone 4S and my MacBook Pro so it just made sense.  But now, I was in the process of downloading a season of a TV show that I purchased earlier today and it still had about 15 episodes left to go and it now says "iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable, iTunes is unable to check for downloads" Any help would be appreciated!

maybe they are doing maintenance?  I would wait awhile and check back later.

  • Reinstall of Lion - says - "Item temporarily unavailable from the App store. Please try again later."

I am trying to reinstall Lion after erasing my hard drive. Erase went smoothly, but now when I try to reinstall, after prompted to enter my Apple ID and pw, it says "Item temporarily unavailable from the App store. Please try again later." HelP!l

Sometimes there are just server problems with the App Store. Only thing that I can offer is to wait a day or so and try again and, if still no luck, contact the App Store support folks - http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/.
    Good luck,

  • Tried updating Macbook to Yosemite - drive crashed - now trying to reinstall Lion on new drive but it is 'temporarily unavailable' HELP PLEASE

Last night, I tried updating my Macbook to Yosemite. It crashed mid way - telling me the drive needs repairing.
I am now following these instructions below. I backed up all of my work before the update, however not my iTunes / iPhoto. I would like to do this. My next step is to reinstall Lion on my external hard drive however it is 'temporarily unavailable'.
Does anyone know a way around this? I assume you can no longer install Lion cos Apple move so quickly.
These are the instructions I am following at the moment :
Installing Mavericks but disk damaged, no recovery or safe modes
    Help appreciated!

I don't understand why some online forums are saying to click "erase." This is a brand new external hard without any files on it.
Just use Disk Utility to erase the drive.  Select HFS+ (Journaled).  It should then become a Mac HFS+ drive.
Also, if I use time machine, will my files be deleted off my computer and only saved on the external hard drive, or will it still be on my computer as well as the external hard drive? I have never backed up my files, so please explain to me what I should do and whether I will have files in both places.
TM is for backing up stuff.  It woudn't make much sense to be a "backup" if it deleted the originals of the stuff it was backing up would it?  So you end up with the source (original) stuff and the destination backup.
Lastly, if I am thinking about updating my software to a newer version (such as OX lion) is it better to back up files now or wait till after I update the software? I am not sure if it makes a difference.
I always say never ever update your system without a backup to fall back on in case something should go wrong with the update, and in the case of lion, you don't like it, and want to go back to Snow Leopard.  So yes, it makes a big difference!
    Update:
The following is for 10.4 but it's good enough to show you the erase operation in disk utility:
    Erasing a disk or volume
You might also want to look at this:
Format Your Hard Drive Using Disk Utility
Finally, TM isn't the only way to back stuff up.  There are many 3rd party backup utilities as well. Two of the more popular ones are Cabon Copy Cloner and Super Duper.

  • Third-party filters unavailable in CS4 (Mountain Lion)

I've noticed that a number of my third-party filters (Alien Skin Exposure, SilverEfex Pro and Topaz Simplify) are not available in CS4 since I upgraded to Mountain Lion. I can still run them in Lightroom.
I have reinstalled Exposure and did so with Mountain Lion's gatekeeper disabled. This made no difference so I thun completed uninstalled this plugin and reinstalled again from scratch and it made no difference.
The plugins that aren't available all appear to be installed in the Applications folder.
Basically each of the plugins is greyed-out in the menu bar and if I try to run them from a palette (SilverEfex) I get an error message “The command SilverEfex Pro 2 is not available”
Any help on this would be most welcome.

  • HT4906 Photo Stream unavailable with Mountain Lion

I'm trying to sync my photos from my iPhone to my MacBook Pro via iCloud/Photostream. I just downloaded and installed Mountain Lion and have iPhoto '11 version 9.1.1. When I try and turn on photo stream on my MacBook it says I need an update but there is no update available in the App Store!?!?

Yes, Photostream is on in OSX Preferences and the iCloud accounts are the same account and if I put photos into the Photostream in iPhoto, those are seen on the iOS devices.  It's just the iPhone images are not seen in iPhoto (under Photostream).
This is probably a different issue than the OP, given that detail, so probably should be it's own issue.  Just the first issue I found referencing Mt. Lion Photostream issue.  (Shame on me)

  • ITunes home sharing intermittantly unavailable since upgrading to Mountain Lion

I recently upgraded my iMac from 10.6.x to 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and since then I have been having sharing/visibility problems between iTunes and my iPad 3 and iPhone.
I had configured and was using, without any issues, home sharing and wifi sync prior to the OS upgrade but now my devices will be unable to find the iTunes running on my Mac. I found some support thread claiming power saving options were to blame, but I have already disabled HDD and computer sleeping. Only the display is allowed to turn off.
The only solution I have found so far is to power cycle the iPad. After rebooting it will find iTunes again. Seems odd that the only thing I changed was the MacOS and yet I have to power cycle the iPad to resolve the issue. Perhaps this problem is only present with this combination of iTunes / iOS / MacOS.
Has anyone else been seeing this problem or found a solution yet?
iMac 3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running OS 10.8.1
    iPad 3 running iOS 5.1.1
    iTunes 10.6.3

    Sorry, I misread.
Your title says Mountain Lion (10.8) but your signature shows Leopard (10.5).
Boot from your Recovery drive then run Disk Utilities - Disk Firsrt aid
Apple menu > Restart then hold Command R

  • Is it possible to uninstall OS Mountain Lion and go back to OS Lion?  This upgrade has been a headache! Mail freezes, all contacts all gone and I am unable to import them again.  HELP?

I recently downloaded and install OS Mountain Lion on my iMac.  Consequently none of the new mail features are available and everytime I attempt to check for new mail or send mail, the mail app freezes and has to be forced closed.  Also, all of my contacts are gone, and I am unable to import them back.  And I just discovered that all of my calendar items are missing too.  Is anyone else experiencing these issues?

Thank you for the tip, Andreas. That is exactly what I did for my iPad, and it works like a charm. Unfortunately, when I try to set up my Gmail accounts in Mountain Lion using Exchange services, I receive the following error after putting in m.google.com in the server address field:
The Exchange server "(null)" is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable.
I know this works for iOS, but it seems like this will not work on Mac OS X.
    Any other suggestions? Thank you.

  • I just downloaded Mountain Lion and everything is working great. But i keep getting an error in the app store and i can't download 'Pages"

I just downloaded Mountain Lion and everything is working great. But i keep getting an error in the app store and i can't download 'Pages' or any other apps. I keep getting an "error" and it says credit card processing is temporarily unavailable......help

Try deleting the cache associated with the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
    Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Launch the App Store. See if that made a difference...

I tried to purchase an application in App store, but after entering my credit card info, I was told that payment is temporarily unavailable. Please advice.

You need to go to ... iTunes support.
    http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
Incidentally, there have been problems these last few days, particularly with Mountain Lion.

  • I am not able to download it et all its saying product temporarily unavailable

When ever i am trying to purchase OS X Mountain from the App store its giving me same message. "This product is temporarily unavailable please try again later".

See no. 5. In the meantime, read over the other steps and do what you can:
here’s a few things to do both before and on the big day:
    1. Check the tech specs
Check out the tech specs for Mountain Lion to make sure you can run it on your current system. If you are upgrading from Snow Leopard, you should also check out will my old apps work with Lion?.
    2. Run Software Update
Make sure you have the latest version of everything by running
     > Software Update
before you upgrade. This will help to cut down any compatibility problems when installing Mountain Lion.
    3. Backup your current install
Without a doubt the biggest cause of trouble and frustration with every OS release is among users who didn’t backup their systems before trying to install the new one. Like Lion, Mountain Lion will be delivered as a download from the App Store, and while this method is certainly convenient, corrupted downloads are not uncommon. Moreover, even when the install proceeds as expected, you want to be able to get back to your previous system if you find things are not to your liking. An OS installation is like performing major surgery on your computer and the chances of complications are always a significant risk. As the old boy scout saying goes ‘Be Prepared’. Backup, backup, backup.
    4. Remove everything from your Login Items.
    For Lion users, that’s
     > System Preferences…> Users & Groups | Login Items
If you’re upgrading from Snow Leopard 10.6.8, go to
     > System Preferences…> Accounts | Login Items
There’s a couple of reasons for doing this, but mainly it’s to ensure that you can log in without difficulty. Login Items are one of the main causes of OS problems at the best of times, but with a major upgrade like this, you don’t want any incompatible software choking the system from booting up. See Step 8 below about re-activating your Login Items after the installation.
    5. Be prepared for slow download times
Apple’s servers will be hotter than a forest fire on release day, so you can expect download times to be pretty poor. At the very least, connect your computer to your router via ethernet cable rather than wifi – that’ll at least help push things along a bit faster at your end. If you can do it from the office or somewhere else that has a lot more bandwidth than the usual home connection, do so.
    6. Save the installer
After the download completes the installer will run automatically. Do NOT click ‘Install’, but instead quit it. Then go to your Applications folder and copy the ‘Install OS X Mountain Lion .app’ and save it to your Downloads folder or somewhere else. Then you can run the installer in your Applications folder.
The reason for doing this is that when you install Mountain Lion the Install app in your Applications folder will self-delete. If the install shouldn’t work for some reason the first time round, you won’t have to go through the whole tiresome wait of a download from the App store again if you save a copy to your Downloads folder.
    7. Update 3rd-party apps
Assuming Mountain Lion boots up just fine, the first thing you’re going to want to do (after having a nose around, of course!) is update your 3rd party apps. Start off by opening the App store to see if any that you’ve sourced from there have updates waiting for you. After that, start up all the main apps that you normally use and use their ‘Check for Updates’ option (usually in the Apps main menu), or contact the developers through their websites.
    8. Test your Login Items apps
In particular, you’re going to want to test out the apps that you want to put back in your Login Items, before you put them back in there. Run each app and play around with the system for a couple of hours before deciding to put it back in your Login Items list. If you notice any weird behaviour with Finder, the Dock or Desktop backgrounds, problems with wifi or graphics, chances are one or more of your 3rd party apps needs updating to work with Mountain Lion. If there is no update yet, stop using that app till one becomes available or find an alternative. In general, it’s always best to keep Login Items down to a bare minimum. Running apps at login is a sure fire way to slow down boot up times.
