OS X Mountain Lion Online Recovery?

Ok so I made this huge mistake in which I literally deleted EVERYTHING in my "TOSHIBA HD". No partitions, recovery disks, anything. Luckily, I had bought Mountain Lion from the App Store before the mistake and was able to make a boot DVD BUT once it reaches towards completition, some kind of error "could not download necessary files to install OS" appears.
... and I take a deep breath and search for solutions from my phone and find this "online recovery" thing. I follow the instructions (command + F on startup) but when I finally reach recovery mode, it turns out to be Lion Online Recovery, which prompts me a Lion installation via the App Store. I never bought Lion so there isn't much this recovery mode can do for me. But then I find out there's a Mountain Lion Online Recovery and after several attempts to reach it, I keep getting the Lion one.
How can I boot in Mountain Lion Online Recovery in order to download it from the App Store and FINALLY use my precious MacBook?

While we all have MacBooks in this forum most of us don’t run Mountain Lion. There's a Mountain Lion Support Community where everybody has Mountain Lion. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/os_x_mountain_lion

Install the required Windows drivers: Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033. Download this link preferably from Windows. Otherwise, download onto a FAT formatted USB disk from which you can copy to your Windows system.

  • HT4718 mountain lion in recovery? Please advice

Hi, what is this -2105f error I get when reinstalling mountain lion in recovery? Please advice.

In this thread, https://discussions.apple.com/message/18548757#18548757, 2105f appears to be a network error of some sort, such that connection to Apple's servers are blocked.
Is there another network you can try?

  • Unable to reinstall Mountain Lion from recovery partition

    Hi there,
I have formatted my main HDD partition and then boot from recovery partition. I have a MacBook Pro 2011 series. I have reinstalled my Mountain Lion following on screen instructions. But when It's says is OK and 100% installed and begin restart the system, it is unable to boot and automatically boot from recovery partition again.
Can anybody help me? What I have to do?
       Thanks in advance.

Why did you start this process in the first place? Was there something wrong with the original install of Mt Lion? Like your system wouldn't startup anymore?
I suspect it is a hardware problem and may be the drive is failing.
Is your Mac a Early or Late 2011 model. Did it come with Lion Pre-installed?
If it came with Lion Preinstalled then you can use the Online Internet Recovery system to first reinstall Lion. At startup hold down the Command+Option/Alt+r keys until you see a spinning globe in the center of the screen. From that screen select Disk Utility and Re-Partition the drive as One partition. Then close DU and select Reinstall Mac OS X. If after the install of Lion is downloaded and finishes the install your system still refuses to boot up properly then you have a hardware problem and only Apple can fix a hardware problem.

  • How do I install mountain lion without recovery partition.

I have a Mac Mini with two 500 GB disks that I mirrored (RAID10) and lost the recovery partition in the process.
The Mountain Lion installer indicates it will install anyway but without some minor features.
But, when it reboots as part of the install process, it does not actually install.
Is there something special I need to do?

Did you use LionDiskMaker or DiskMaker X?
Boot the machine with the option key down until you see your bootable USB stick.  Select the latter, and reboot.
When the installer boots up, you will first need to choose Utilities and Disk Utility. Select the target HD device name and then the partition tab. Select 1 partition, name it Macintosh HD. Format is Mac OS Extended, and option is GUID. Apply. Exit Disk Utility and return to the installer, which will now show your newly partitioned HD as available for install.
When OS X is installed and all updates applied, press shift+command+U and run disk utility again. Verify/repair permissions and verify the boot disk.

  • Reinstalling Mountain Lion from recovery partition

    Hi,
I am trying to reinstall the Mountain Lion OS from my recovery partition. I have already erased my drive and attempted to reinstall like I have always done. This time though it is asking for an apple id that was used to purchase lion. However I went from snow leapord to Mountain Lion, and am trying to reinstall my mountain lion.
I have done this before countless times and it has always worked, but now its not. I can not make a bootable flash drive to use as I already erased my hard drive and this is the only mac I have.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Jeff

    These are the instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11273
Can you start up your MBP holding down the OPTION key ands access the Recovery partition?
What model MBP do you have?  Did it come with installation disks?  You may have to use those first before you can install Mt. Lion.
    Ciao.

  • I purchased Mountain Lion online from the App store but it won't download

I purchased Mountain Lion from the App Store, and after 2 days it still hasn't downloaded. The download appears to have frozen.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First of all, restart your Mac and resume the download. To resume the download, open App Store > Purchases, and press the Resume button next to OS X Mountain Lion.
If it doesn't work, open Finder, go to Applications folder and delete the OS X Mountain Lion installer. Then, open App Store > Purchases, and download Mountain Lion again

To get the CD to eject, hold down the mouse, or if you use it, trackpad, button while you reboot ... keep holding the button down until it ejects. If that doesn't work, this Apple note has some other steps.
See this Apple note on steps to take to deal with the grey screen.
Your iMac needs to be mid-2007 or newer with 2GB minimum memory (4GB+ is recommended) and 8GB or more of available disk space. You also should be at OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard to access the App store and install OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

  • Trying to re install mountain lion but recovery hd is locked and deleted macintosh hd :(

    Hi all :)
I wanted to re install lion OS X but got it all wrong and in a muddle !
I restarted OS X got to utilities, the disk utility and went to delete 500.11 gb but would not allow and could not unmount! Thought I would go to re install OS X but says that recovery hd is locked! Now me thinking of a work around went back to disk utility and deleted the next branch down which was macintosh hd. But recovery hd is still locked when tryin to re install OS X and now I can't even get back past utilities now when booting up :(
I have no back up either and my mac is useless to me :(
I even tried system restore but gives me nothing
Any help would be appreciated :)
    Thanks

Since you deleted the OS X files, and your Recovery HD is locked, AND you do NOT have a backup on an external hard drive, your options are very limited.  You did not say which model year and version of Mac you have, nor did you say which version of OS X came new on your Mac.  IF your Mac came with an older version of OS X on it, then your Mac also came with a set of Installation Disks.  If so, insert the Installation Disk 1 and boot up while holding down the "C" key to boot from that disk.  You will then be able to reformat your hard drive and install that older version of OS X that came with your Mac.  Then "Update" that version completely online, and then you can eventually "Upgrade" the version of OS X back to Lion.

You have to reinstall OS X. Open App Store > Purchases, and download and install Mountain Lion, so Recovery HD will be created.
Also, if your Mac is compatible with Internet Recovery, you don't need Recovery HD. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4904

  • Mountain Lion Redeem problem - Cant use redeem code after recovery

    Hi,
I have a macbookpro mid 2012 md 101, i got the redeem code for mountain lion on purchase of my macbookpro last year. yesterday i tried to reinstall mountain lion from recovery. howvever, it failed i don't know why. and it went on the internet download and instead of downloading Mountain Lion again it downloaded and install Lion.
i tried to use my redeem code which i got last year but it seems not working anymore.
Please help me out - how do i get back my mountain lion.
    Thnak you.

Redemption codes may only be used once.
Open the Mac App Store, click the Purchases pane, if your purchases do not apear sign into your account through the Store pulldown menu in the MAS menubar. You should see the Mt Lion installer among your purchases, download and install. After that use Software Update to make sure you have the most recent version of Mt Lion.

  • Mac mini with Mountain lion fails to load and mount the os-10.6.3 install disk

I'm trying to use the hardware test utility that should be on the applications disk.  When I put in either the install or application disk the drive kicks it out again after 15 or 20 seconds.  These disks will both load on my imac (late 2009) but of course won't install anything.
Is this normal behavour or do I have a hardware problem?
In addition I boot from my Mountain lion usb recovery drive but find nothing about the hardware testing utility local or online.
I wanted to test memory.  Used memtest and shows no errors.  I also want to test everything else too.

Thanks much folks for the replies and ideas.
Here is more info that should have been in my first post.
    The mini is late 2009.
It ejects the install os 10.6.3 original disks without mounting them BUT will load and mount any other dvd or cd that I have tried video, music or data.  When either of the Apple disks are inserted the drive does a low pitch vibration for several seconds then stops.  It repeats about five times then ejects.  No other disks vibrate this way.  The apple disks for the mini  do not vibrate or eject in the iMac.  They load and mount normally.
I looked for an update for the EFIboot and couldnt see anything that I thought mached the mini.
I have tried the NVPRAM reset with no change in behavour.
Doing a startup with d key doesn't find the AHT.  I assume if it is on the mac-HD it would be found and run.
There doesnt seem to be one on the recovery USB drive that I created.
I did upgrade from SL to ML, no erase.
BDAqua,  I'm not sure what you mean, "In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time."  Should I do 3 NVRAM resets in a row?
I haven't tried the cleaning kit since all other disks give no problems or errors that I know of.

  • How to install Mountain Lion on blank hard drive

I bought a used macbook with the understanding that the hard drive crashed and I had to completely replace it. I've bought and installed a new, blank hard drive in the macbook and I was wondering if I could purchase mountain lion from the apple store and install it on a completely blank hard drive. When I first booted it up, it takes to to a screen that asks me for my wifi password and has an icon for internet recovery. I've clicked on it and after a while it shows me a globe with a question mark and the website for apple support. Please tell me I haven't already messed it up :S

You need to install Snow Leopard or Lion first to install Mountain Lion online via Mac App Store.
