OS X Mountain Lion Possible FIX.

Ok so I have tried EVERYTHING to get my download working for the past 45mins and no luck... UNTIL NOW!
I tried the whole deleting files and stuff but that gave me no luck, so heres how I finally managed to get mine working.
1. Quit all applications.
2. Load the App Store.
3. DO NOT click the top advertisement for Mountain Lion, instead immediately click the link under New & Noteworthy (click the price and then buy rather than download)
4. Sit and wait for your download
Hope this helps you all.

Managed to work for 10 people that I know ( 3 of which are myself and my father and mother)...
I am running it now whilst parents are downloading goodd luck

  • When apple is going to have an update for mountain lion to fix the spinning wheel at start up and when a shut down my macbook pro 2011?

I bought a 2011 macbook pro after clean it up and reinstal Mountain lion, i did an update since then, whe i start up and shut down the computer gets a spinnin wheel which takes forever. I have read about this problem but i'm new at mac, and seem to be kind of complicated repair it. I'm wonder if anyone knows if apple is doing something to fix this? macbooks arent chip and i shouldnt go thru all the the time consuming to get it works how sopose to.
if some one knows anything or if there is anybody who can guide me step by step on how to fix this, i really will apreciate that.
    thank you.

    As cbs20 says...
Boot up holding command-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
The screen should give you these choices...
    Restore from TM backup
    Reinstall Mac OS X
    Get help online
    Disk Utility
First run Disk Utility Repair Disk, if you get errors run until no errors reported or reports "the disk cannot be fixed". Then, choose Reinstall OS X. This will be an install "in place" and shouldn't effect any of your own data or settings.

Mac Specs required for Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space
It seems your MacBook is too old to run Mountain Lion. But given the age of your Computer, Snow Leopard is still a very stable and excellent OSX. You can go to Lion (10.7) if you wish, but if I were you, I would be staying with Snow Leopard.

  • CS6 suite crashing in Mountain Lion, the fix

I had a persistant problem where the CS6 trial of Photoshop crashed on 'Save As' under a new install of Mountain Lion.
After 3 days, and many re-installs, I tracked the problem down to 4 installed fonts, two of them Adobe font suitcases.
    They are...
    #PCmyoungjo.dfont
    #Pilgiche.dfont
    Adobe Sans MM
    Adobe Serif MM
Removal of the above, which checked out fine using Font Book, also stopped my Office 11 suite from crashing on startup.
I had also removed every faulty font from my list of 2100+ fonts, and only when a clean install with the minimum of fonts worked, did I try dragging extra fonts in a few at a time, then, Bingo! Crashes.
CS6 worked fine under Lion with the full font list, so obviously something dramatic has changed in Mountain Lion regarding handling fonts.

I've written a quick Applescript that will remove the offending Fonts, and opens the two Library Folders for visual checking.
Take note that if the offending fonts have been renamed, they will not be removed by this script.
To run this, open Script Editor in your Applications Folder, paste the text below into the window, and click 'Run'.

  • Skype problem on Mountain Lion - possible solution!

    Worked for me!
I noticed that when I tried to launch Skype on newly downloaded Mountain Lion the small app - iGlasses- also tried to launch .
I deleted iGlasses and all its components using search in Finder. There are also  several iGlasses files in Library - once they were all gone and you can tell they are gone once iGlasses doesn't come up in Skype - success!
Skype now works. In my case it was definitely a conflict with iGlasses.
If you are still having a problem launching Skype could there be a software conflict ?

Yes. No surprise. Third Party software conflicts are the main cause of system issues, conflicts and failures. Thanks for letting us know of yet another one to add to the long list.

  • Mac OS X 10.6.8 to OS X Mountain Lion possible?

    I have a late 2010 macbook air with Mac OS X 10.6.8,
Was wondering what do I need to be able to download the new OS X Mountain Lion?
    Thanks Grace x

Just purchase Mountain Lion in the app store.  It will upgrade right over 10.6.8.

  • 10.7.5 Build 11G36 Upgrade to Mountain Lion Possible?

    HI

You are really confused.  No PowerMac  (what this forum is about) can upgrade to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion. Read this tip to see if you even have a Mac that qualifies for Snow Leopard:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2455
    This one for Lion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2465
And this one for Mountain Lion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3761
Appleseed is the beta program, meaning what I call a buggy every test application, or otherwise a program to allow you to become a guinea pig for Apple.    As a guinea pig program, you are subject to a non-disclosure agreement, so any software in it is confidential as to what it will run on when you sign up.  Usually you sign up with your e-mail, and they send you an e-mail address to get more info about the program.  If you didn't receive that e-mail, then you may not be officially registered in the program.

  • Is upgrade from 10.6.3 to Mountain Lion possible?

I'm thinking about purchasing a used Macbook 2007 (MA895LL/A) 10.6.3 is currently the installed, will I be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion when it is released? How so? Would I have to upgrade to 10.7 first? (New to Macs, from Windows)

    ockerk wrote:
Will having 4GB of RAM instead of the 2GB RAM stock make a difference?
2GB of RAM is 10.7's minimum, others here claim 4GB+ is better. It might be with 10.8 that 8GB is better.
So OS X is bloating up now starting with 10.7  as  it's a 64bit OS and no 3.5GB RAM limit like before, so your RAM limit of your older machine now has to be taken into consideration as a performance limitation.
Also 10.6 has Rosetta, you can still run older PPC programs (some you can't get anymore) with 10.6, but not 10.7 and beyond.
Some people have upgraded to 10.7 only to howl in pain as half their software and third party hardware drivers no longer work.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
BTW, you can put 2 3-GB RAM modules in that machine for 6GB, Apple only says 4GB as that's all they had at that time.
    So that's a performance bonus.
Crucial.com, OtherWorldComputing are a couple of good locations to get good quality RAM
    Maximum Memory
6.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
I can tell you not too many happy campers on 10.7, it's rather depressing with it's gray/black backgrounds and not friendly to desktop UI users
Spaces and Exposé is GONE in 10.7 for something called Mission Control which isn't quite as good as you can't see 4 or 16 screens at once like Spaces did.
OS X is turned more like a iPad UI too.
Anyway it takes some getting used too, you might want to employ it on new hardware instead.

  • Mountain Lion Network Fix, till apple official Fix

well, i just updated my MBA 2011 and after problems with my wifi conection i discover that ML got some problem with N network ... on G everythings works fine.

I was able to solve the issue on my Macs after determining that the problem only existed on networks that I had connected to before the upgrade, and did not exist on networks I initially connected to after the upgrade.
    The steps I took were
On the router; rename the wireless network SSID to something unique. You will change this later, it is not permanent.
Connect to the router using the new SSID. You could stop here if the problem is solved, but I wanted my old SSID back so,
In ControlPanel / Network / WiFi // Advanced  delete the old SSID under PreferredNetworks to clear out all the old preferences.
I rebooted, but it may not be necessary.
Change things back: On the router, rename the SSID to the original SSID
Connect to the router using the new original SSID
In ControlPanel / Network / WiFi // Advanced  delete that temporary SSID under PreferredNetworks.
This has worked for me on 2 Macs. On a third, I further needed to change the security type on the router to anything different, reconnect, and then change back and reconnect.
It's just a guess, but it seems reasonable that some preference file needed to be converted during the upgrade to ML and wasn't, or a cache file needed to be purged and wasn't. This procedure basically just creates a new preference file and, optionally, deletes the old one. I was also getting thousands of 'scanner_state_ ' entries in the system.log. Those have now ceased.
It took over 3 hours to transfer the 4.37 gig ML install file to another computer before. After the fix it transferred in minutes. It's good to have my 'n' connection back.
    Good luck.

  • Will reinstalling mountain lion fix image retention

After installing mavericks i started getting image retention so i was wondering if reinstalling mountain lion will fix my problem.

It's unlikely that has a thing to do with OS version. But it you wish to reinstall Mountain Lion:
    Erase the drive.
Reinstall Mountain Lion from a backup.
Since your computer can run Mavericks you will no longer be able to re-download Mountain Lion. However, if Mountain Lion was pre-installed on your computer, then you may be able to reinstall it by going through an Internet Recovery:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This may restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Is the Mountain Lion battery issue fixed - question???

    Hello,
I've been reading that the latest update to Mountain Lion has fixed the battery drain.
Has anybody here got this release on a Late 2008 MacBook?
How is it running? Has the battery issue been fixed or improved?
    Cheers

You can look here to see if your battery simply needs replacing:
Go to About This Mac (under the Apple logo in the menu bar).  Then click "More Info", then "System Report".  Click the "Power" row on the left.  You should see major headers like "Model Information", "Charge Information".
Look under "Health Information" and find "Cycle Count".  How big is that number?  If it is around 1000 or more, it may well be time to replace the battery.

  • Miror airplay does not work with Mountain Lion with my MacBook either with my Apple Tv.

Yesterday I installed the Mountain Lion on my computer, it is a MacBook Pro i core 7 and Mirror's airplay function does not deplay on my superior tool bar and it does not work. Does anybody know how to make it work? The apple TV is the last model.

I just installed Mountain Lion today, after finally getting the up-to-date code from Apple.
I have also downloaded and installed the update for Mountain Lion, that fixed Powernap issues.
Maybe it could have something to do with the firmware on the Apple TV? I am currently running version 4.4.4(3330)

  • Netflix, Silverlight 5 and Mountain Lion

For what it's worth, prior to upgrading from Lion I could not get Safari to work with Silverlight 5 and Neflix. The familiar "plug-n failure". I thought Mountain Lion might fix it. Just upgrading did not. Deleting the Silverlight plugin and reinstalling from the download did not work either. I took a last shot by deleting the plug-in and then running Netflix, allowing it to provide the Silverlight download. This worked. Also, downgrade to Silverlight 4 is blocked by Mountain Lion.

I've found Silverlight to be resource intensive, but version 5 is supposed to be less so than version 4. Is there anything else running in activity monitor, such as the Spotlight Indexing process? I have a 2008 mac pro with 8 cores and 32 gig of ram and while Silverlight doesn't slow it down much, the fan speeds up a bit when displaying HD in a fairly large window.
For what it's worth, Elgato EyeTv HD displaying 720p in a decent sized window does the same thing and has nothing to do with Silverlight. At the end of the day your computer is decompressing a lot of data to display HD video on your screen and it takes some work to do it.
Interested in hearing from others on this.

  • Mountain Lion blackouts

OK, I previously experienced a lot of recurring blackouts on my 15" MP while running on Lion.
I consulted with a certified Mac tech, and he pinpointed the issue to a logic board malfunction. He installed gfxCardStatus and told me to try running it on Integrated and then Discrete for a while and see if anything improved. Truth be told, no improvements while using either setting...still got the blackouts.
The same Mac tech told me my best shot giving the age of my MP was to buy a new one, since replacing the logic board was not cost effective.
I asked if upgrading the OS to Mountain Lion might fix the issue, on the long shot it was just a funky firmware issue with Lion. Although he didn't think it would fix anything, he did say go for it on the off chance it helped.
Before upgrading though, I backed up my harddrive and reverted back to Snow Leopard...just for kicks. Turns out for the two days I ran SL, I had no blackouts, and I ran several different graphics-heavy apps just in case. No issues.
However, some of my apps no longer ran on SL, so I went ahead and upgraded to Mountain Lion. For about a day, I had no problems.
Then all of a sudden, back to the blackouts. This time though, looks like Apple built in an auto restart when the MP experiences a blackout. That just means I don't have to force power-off ... but I'm still getting the blackout!
This is a shout out for any other ideas ANYONE might have as to a solution for this. Has anyone had any luck fixing their blackout issues, aside from just buying a new Mac?

    Jimmy,
It seems like your problem is similar to or the same as the one being discussed over in this thread. There doesn’t seem to be an answer yet, but you may want to follow the thread I linked since it seems to have some more discussion!
