OS X not pairing with 3rd party mouse

Hey Guys,
I got a new trust MI-5300p (there's no specification difference between this and the MI-5300m) mini bluetooth mouse yesterday.
I switched it on, the red scanning light came on and it behaved like a normal optical mouse (but with no cable or computer connection). That was good. I then pressed the connect button and tried to get OS X to connect to it. By default Bluetooth Setup Assistant uses a blank passkey. This failed so I tried no passkey (in "Any device" options) and got this:
Gathering information about your device
The computer needs information about your device to determine how it can interact with it. This should only take a few seconds.
Continue
then instantly:
Congratulations! Your computer is now set up to use your Bluetooth mouse.
Quit
But the mouse doesn't appear in any of the bluetooth or mouse settings in the control panel. (It hasn't paired.)
I have now tried booting in ubuntu (linux). The mouse connects just fine after running a few commands in the shell so I know the mouse isn't dead.
After trying to pair with OS X the mouse is still in connecting mode as it doesn't have its scanning light on (except briefly when switching off and on).
This problem has been replicated on an iBook which also has 10.4.6 installed.
Any ideas what is going wrong and how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!
12" Powerbook 1.5 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hey,
It seems that the problem is something to do with the paring process. I managed to get it working in the end by downgrading my system to 10.4.1 (I think), pairing the mouse and upgrading to 10.4.6 (now 10.4.7).
I haven't the guts to try re-pairing with 10.4.7 as I really don't have the time to reinstall.
When I didn't get any answers on the web I filled in an Apple bug report which is still "open" so I don't think the bug has been fixed anyway.
I hope that helps.
Is your mouse the same model as mine or a different one? If it is different in any way I think it would be worth letting Apple know as they may want to fix this sooner.

  • Wireless keyboard not pairing with IMac while mouse

I am having trouble with the wireless keyboard entering my password when booting up. It will not let me enter any characters. My wireless mouse & trackpad seem to work fine. Right now I am submitting this issue through my Ipad (3rd Gen) using the same keyboard that will not pair with my IMac. I called Apple tech yesterday and he had me remove  the new batteries from the keyboard and depress the power button for one minute, then replace the batteries and power up the Imac. That solution seemed to work yesterday. Last evening i shut the machine down and tried to start today and had the same issue. The keyboard is working fine with this Ipad and had no trouble recognizing it on bluetooth. Has anybody had this same problem, I was considering purchasing a USB apple keyboard until I tried the keyboard with a different device (my ipad)

How did you get on? My brother is having a similar problem, he bought a replacement wireless keyboard which is not recognized by/paired with his iMac and thus he can't login..

  • Scroll direction with 3rd party mouse (Razer)?

    Hi,
I've been wondering why my scroll direction went the wrong way after Lion. However, possible since I use a 3rd party mouse (Razer Deathadder), there is no option to change this under mouse.
Does anybody else have a workaround?
    Daniel.

Unfortunately, thats not the window I get!! Here is mine.

  • Firewire iSight not working with 3rd party software on Leopard

I just installed OSX Leopard and not able to use firewire isight on any program other than ichat. I use 3rd party software for video conferencing (educational setting) and need an external iSight so as to position the camera on larger groups. Anyone have any suggestions?

My external iSight is working fine with QuickTime Pro, iMovie, Photo Booth (v2).
If http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93240 does not get things working, and especially if your problem is only with your 3rd party app, contact the developer to see if there are known issues with Leopard.

  • Will not charge with 3rd party chargers when asleep

My iphone 3g does not charge when plugged into a 3rd party charger and the phone is asleep. I can confirm that its not charging because the phone is still out of battery even after being plugged in overnight, and the griffin charger has a LED indicator that shows if its actively charging or not. I tired this with both a Griffin iphone charger and a Belkin charger.
When waking up the phone though, it of course shows that its charging. It took me a while to figure out that it wasnt chargin when it was asleep.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Do these chargers say that they are made to work with iphone?
The iphone 3g does not charge via firewire pins as the original did. This could be your problem.
There are many posts on charging issues due to firewire compatibility. You can do a forum search to find out more.

  • Image preview not working with 3rd party photo apps in iPhoto/Image Capture

I haven't had a problem until recently with the iPhone 4. Pictures taken with third party photo apps such as Shake It Photo or Hipstamatic no longer generate a thumbnail preview in either iPhoto or Image Capture. It's just a generic jpg icon. All pictures taken with Apple's camera app appear just fine. I also had a problem where I couldn't import any of the photos, but I restarted the phone a couple times and that seemed to fix the importing issue, but not the thumbnail preview issue. This is particularly weird because i've been importing pictures since the first day this phone came out, and it's only been doing this since yesterday.
I know a lot of people are having problems getting their iPhoto to recognize the phone at all or that there are photos on the phone, but is anyone else having the same problem as me? Any solutions? I have iPhoto 8.1.2.
    Thanks!

  • IPod 30GB will not work with 3rd party USB 2.0 PCI card

I've had an IOGear PCI USB 2.0 card (GIC220U-BIO) in my Sawtooth for some time now, and have been using it flawlessly with my Canon i860 printer, and Canon LiDE 30 Scanner.
Just recently I received a Video iPod (30GB) and wanted to take advantage the high speed USB bus offered on that card to sync my iPod. The problem is, when I plug in the iPod to the USB port on that card, I get the transparent gray box telling me that I need to restart my mac by pushing the reset switch, or holding the power button for several seconds (in other words, freezes).
The iPod works fine with the built-in USB ports (albeit slow), as well as the high speed port on my iBook G4. Why am I getting this error? There are no drivers or firmware updates for this PCI card available.
    Is there a solution?

Yes, use a different USB 2.0 PCI card, like from Sonnet. I use a Sonnet in a G5 and it works great. There are (at least) 2 USB chipsets and I find the TI ones are great and the other not so great.
The fact it works on 1.1 and the 2.0 on the G4 at least tells you it is not the iPod and a USB 2 card is $20 or $30 at the most.

  • Macbook 5.4 Early 2010 not compatible with 3rd party drives? 1TB Samsung

    Hi,
I spent the past two weeks trying to get a Samsung 1TB to work on my Macbook 15" 5.4 2010 unsuccessfully. Thought it was even a problem with the hard drive so I sent it to Samsung and got a replacement, even this replacement has problems.
What happens is when OS X is installed from scratch the console is full of I/O errors and reports of fsck needing to be run on next boot as HSF has found errors. Reinstalling OS X was the last resort as I did a disk image copy, time machine restore, migration assistant and also made a copy with carbon cloner. I gave up in the end and put it into the first model unibody 15" macbook which was running leopard and it worked ok. I read through some threads on these forums and saw reports from people reporting that EFI 1.8 onwards brings in a thing where drives are potentially incompatible.
Some others went on to say shock protection could be the problem but I disabled that on pmset without any fix to my problem.
Does anyone know of a fix to this at all? I know Apple does not like swapping or upgrading parts but something as simple as replacing a drive should be allowed. Does anyone know of another fix to this problem.

Ok so it turns out I am basically screwed with this, there is no EFI update to fix the problem as it pertains only to my macbook pro specifically. Other macbook pro's seem to have newer EFI's and work wit hteh drive.

  • IPhone Photo Edits Not Saved with 3rd Party Apps

I have been using Postagram successfully for some time.  However, now, when I take a photo with my iPhone and save/done the edits I make, this version of the image is not uploaded to Postagram-only the original, unedited image is uploaded.
In short, I take the picture, I edit the picture, I click save/done and the edited image lives in my Camera Roll; however, only the original version is uploaded to Postagram.
Has anyone experienced this or have a solution?

  • 3rd party mouse will not pair using Lion?

Just upgraded to Lion tonight.  My HP Laser bluetooth Model N558 mouse which worked perfectly on the 17" macbook pro using Snow Leopard NOW will not pair with Mac.  Downloaded the latest HP drivers, did a software update, restarted but mouse attemps to pair for about 1-2 seconds and then error message comes up saying the Mouce cannot pair with the Mac.  Very frustrating and not finding any answers on MAC or HP forums. Error message on "select bluetooth device" says, "The device does not have the necessary services." It sure had the necessary services using Snow Leopard.  Next error message, "The paring attempt was unsuccessful.  The device is refusing the paring attempt..."
No matter what I have tried, new batteries, restarts, take out batteries for 10 minutes, holding down 'discover' button for 10 seconds. I've tried just about everything mentioned in the forums.
I don't enjoy the prospect of having to lug a usb mouse on my road trips but cannot find a solution.

  • Macbook pro will not pair with Vizio sound bar.

Macbook will not pair with Vizio sound bar. It has paired and worked fine in the past. in the menu bar at the top of the screen it says it is connected but it is not. when I open the bluetooth preferences and try to pair it says pairing failed. any help would be great. thanks.

All was well until this afternoon, when I swapped out the batteries on my trusty old Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer for Bluetooth, which has worked flawlessly for me for a few years now. After I put new batteries in, my MBP wouldn't recognize it. I went through the Bluetooth Setup Assistant, and it "saw" the mouse and properly listed it as "Microsoft Mouse". I hit "continue", of course, and the Assistant said "Pairing with your Bluetooth mouse". It got as far as "Connection established" (and I saw the mouse appear in the Bluetooth preference pane", but then I got the dreaded red words: "The pairing attempt was unsuccessful. Make sure your mouse is in range of this computer, turned on and "discoverable." Etc., etc. I made sure of all of those things and tried again, many times, with the same failure every time. I tried different batteries, rebooted the Mac, and so on. No luck.
Figuring my mouse was dead, I went out and bought a Kensington Slimblade Bluetooth Presenter Mouse, brand new, never been paired with anything. Same problem!
Also, I can no longer get my Palm Treo 650 to sync via Bluetooth. It used to be a little flaky (often complained that the port was in use by another application), but rebooting the Treo always solved that. Now, it doesn't.
One trusty old mouse suddenly stops pairing, one brand-new one refuses to pair, smartphone won't sync any more. I haven't installed any system updates or anything else since the Microsoft mouse worked. The only weird thing going on is that I'm having massive network connectivity issues with my broadband connection (probably a flaky cable modem), and a couple of days ago I bought a new Airport Extreme a/b/g/n wireless router, which is at the other end of the house from my computer and now-defunct mice.
Very bizarre. Can the Bluetooth chip or antenna in a MacBook Pro burn out or otherwise fail?

    Hi!
i've bought a z8000 mouse, and it does not pair with HP Probook 6475b neither with my Macbook.
When trying to do it with the HP Notebook, it tells me that the peripheral driver was not installed (COM5).

Nope. You don't delineate where you're coming from, and the simplest solutions should always be tried first. Hope you find your answer.

  • Anyone Else Notice How Tempermental the iMac is with 3rd Party RAM?

I recently upgraded my 2007 iMac so Lion could run more smoothly by adding RAM from Crucial.
The machine worked fine for a few days then I started experiencing kernal panics.  I suspected my new RAM wasn't seeded properly.  The last straw was when I shut down the system to re-seed the RAM and turned it back on, the machine beeped three times at few second intervals (which indicates a problem with RAM) and would not power on.
I moved it to a different slot--still no joy.  In an effort to just get the machine started, I tried other 3rd party RAM that was compatible with the iMac that I had lying around.  Still no go as the machine would beep loudly and not power on.
I finally found some RAM I had taken out of my 2007 Macbook Pro when I upgraded it.  It was the original RAM that had come with the Macbook Pro.  It worked like a charm.
But I'd like to upgrade my RAM.  Guess I'll have to take a trip to the Apple store and buy from there--much more expensive though.
Anyone else have issues with RAM?

Mac's are not tempermental with third party RAM however they are sensitive to the following RAM issues:
    1. Incorrect RAM specifications. RAM specs must exactly meet Apple's specifications, period! Installing incorrect RAM will cause KPs.
    2. Unseated RAM. Unseated RAM will cause problems.
    3. Failed RAM, this is more unusual however it's possible to have a RAM DIMM be defective of fail at a later date.
The only third party RAM I would not recommend for your machine is Kingston Value brand, this has been troublesome. However if you use OWC or Crucial both are great vendors and sell RAM that works assuming 1, 2 and 3 above.

  • MacBook Pro will not pair with any Bluetooth device

Last night my MacBook Pro stopped pairing with any bluetooth device (I've tried Apple Pro Wireless Keyboard, Wireless Mighty Mouse, Logitech MX900 mouse, Apple Aluminum Wireless Keyboard) and it simply won't pair with anything.
It sees each device but when it tries to pair it fails. With the keyboards, sometimes it'll give me the passkey to type on the keyboard but then it doesn't recognize that I've actually typed it and hit enter. Eventually I just end up with:
"The pairing attempt was unsuccessful. Make sure your keyboard is in range of this computer, turned on and "discoverable." When ready, click Continue to try again."
I've reinstalled 10.5.6 Combo update, tried to pair under a different user account, turned off/on bluetooth, and still nothing.
I did install VMWare Fusion last night and briefly shared the Bluetooth connection to that, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.
    Any suggestions?
