OS X resizing PDF problem.

hi everyone!
i have an indesign file that needs to be resized to 15.24cm x 22.86cm for printing.
using the setup option within the file>print dialogue i am unable to resize it. the options are just greyed out. i dont have any printers installed at the moment. as we speak i am downloading some drivers for the epson r2880, but am wondering if you guys know an alternate method to resize this thing? i am in a huge rush!

Place the PDF (or the original Indesign document if you have it) into a new Indesign document that is the size you want it. Re export it and you're done! If it's multiple pages use this truly awesome script.

You're asking a lot of ancient Acrobat to work with an Office that never existed when it was made. "Just updated my office suite" is a massive change, and Window 8 didn't exist at that time either...

I guess a lot of people are having pdf problems.
When I export a pdf of a Travel Journal doc and view with adobe reader 7.0, the borders on the photos are not there.
What is the word on this?
As you can see I don't have Tiger /PDF-X.

Not certain if this is quite the same thing, but.......
I have found problems when exporting to pdf, not when I open in Preview but when the person I am emailing the file to opens it in Acrobat, as all drop shadows are then lost, this makes professional printing difficult.
Resolved it for the moment by:
1. exporting to pdf as normal
2. using Graphic Converter which comes bundled with OSX to create a PSD file and sending that electronically. Slight problem was that the size of the file increased from 3mb to about 27mb, so had to download a free copy of Cyberduck ftp programme too. In fact saving it to jpeg was just about as good.
3. you do have to do one page at a time but it works.

There may be a preflight script for what you want. The other way is not generally recommended based on the loss of markup and the modification of graphic resolution and such, but you can print the PDF to a new size with shrink to fit selected. As I said, it is not recommended, but might meet your need. You can also do some adjustment with the crop tool, but it depends on what your goal is.
If you are talking about the file size, that is a different issue and the Save As Other > Reduce File Size or Optimize PDF are the typical approaches.

Reader is not intended to edit or change the layout of pdf files. It is intended for Reading. It will also allow you to fill in enabled pdf files and print pdf files as well.

Illustrator Save to PDF problems

I have Illustrator CS 14.0.0 and Acrobat Pro 9 (9.1.1 to be specific) extended and I cannot save the pdf format from Illustrator. I try over and over and it just does not work... it just locks up Illustrator forcing me to use the Windows XP task manager to kill Illustrator becuase it is simply frozen and I have no other options. The failure is happening with large and small files of any complexity. I would like to make use of the streamlined workflows in CS4... but his problem is big headache - especially if I would like to include special aspects of Illustrator features in the PDF file. The failure happen with save-as and with the basic save PDF. I was able to open (more or less like an import) the .ai file after saving from within Acrobat and that seems to be a work around for now. Is ther any updates for Acrobat or Illustrator to fix this save as PDF problem inside Illustrator CS4??

I am experiencing exactly the same problem as reported in this thread. I am using AI CS4. When I try to save to PDF the programme freezes making it necessary to use the task manager to kill it. I have been trying to identify the folders where the preferences are held but on this computer running windows xp the folder names do not match those in the thread. Is there a specific file name that I can search for?

Importing SWF to PDf problem since updating 10.1.6

Ever since updating to 10.1.6 all of a sudden our SWF flash presentations have stopped importing to pdf correctly
In version 10.1.4 we used to right click the swf and then select open with Adobe Acrobat X which would allow us to make a pdf of our presentation without any issues and showing correctly,
since updating we can no longer do this without strange sizing issues
Now, in 10.1.6, when we import the swf the size is tiny and either a long strip horizontally or vertically and you have to zoom in 400% to see the document properly and it no longer reads the actual SWF extents and seems to have random extra document space around it
the sizing/scaling cropping of the swf in pdf is completely out, like its not respecting the flash document width and height and adding extra space....
also we have had to remove fscommand("fullscreen", "true"); as the swf wont work unless its removed

in the image is a simple example 550 x 400 swf when it goes into pdf it ignores the document size and shpws extra space

Ive tried all the diferent stage scalemodes but it seems to automatically decide on what the extents should be when importing the swf wheras previously it would respect the document dimensions of the SWF
here is a pdf from swf file created a few days with acrobat version 10.1.4 on the left with one created today with 10.1.6 (document size is 1024 x 768 in flash), something has changed and I cant work out what it is - i have added an image resizing function to the image, which is why its constrainign to the view, but how did it come up with the tiny rectangle document size ?

Script to resize pdf-files by percentage

I have a rather simple problem: I need to resize a collection of several pdf files (around 60) by a certain percentage, because those files are included in a text (LaTex) - and I need to change the LaTex page style (in other words: the layout) - so that my old images are all a bit too large for the layout; thus I want to do a quick-and-dirty solution and resize them all by a certain percentage (defined by the difference between my old layout and the new, more slim one).
So - the simple question is: does anyone know either if there is simple free software out there that can do this (I didn't find any - and Acrobat 9 doesn't offer the possibility to change the dimensions of pdf images) - or, b) if this would be possible to do with Applescript? Off course, I wouldn't mind a ready-made script - but, since I don't know, but want to learn Applescript, I thought that this might be a good task to start with - although I also need a solution in 3 to 4 days - hope it wouldn't be a too frustrating task to start with...

You might try something like the following script.
It will a) resize the pdf image by using Image Events and save it as png and b) convert png to pdf by png2pdf.
You'd need to have png2pdf installed in advance.
(Image Events can open pdf but cannot save as pdf according to the document.)
The script will let you choose source folder where original pdfs reside and destination folder where modified pdfs are to be stored. Also it will let you specify scaling factor. After that it will open each pdf file (*.pdf) in source folder, resize and save as new png file in destination and then convert the png to pdf (and delete png if successful). Hopefully it's like that.
Script is NOT tested and I don't know how good (or bad) Image Events and png2pdf are, for I don't use OSX for myself. Sorry about that.

Resizing pdf

Hi , I am having a problem resizing a pdf document (I have adobe acrobat pro 8).
Basically it is a large pdf and when viewed at 100% it is too big for the page. Is there anyway that I can resize it so that when at 100% fits the page? I don't want to use the "reflow" option because it messes up the pdf completely, all the images go to the bottom.
any idea?

Actually no you're right, it won't be just on my system, I appreciate what Daniel Flavin said about differences on different monitors...but still what will be the way to resize it, just out of interest?

Psd - pdf problem

I have encountered a problem when viewing pdfs exported from photoshop cs4 using acrobat pro 9. If I open single pdf, it's ok, but whenever I open another pdf, all text is jagged. Then if I close all pdfs and try opening the second one, it's ok again. It looks like acrobat is not able to render texts correctly in newly opened pdf when another pdf is already opened.
This happens only with pdfs exported from photoshop (file->save as->pdf). It does not really matter if the first opened pdf is from photoshop or not, all other opened pdfs from photoshop are crapy.
I tried different settings when saving pdf but the results are always the same - jagged type (it does not even look like aliased, it's completely screwed and unreadable) in second pdf. It is funny because text present as smart object from illustrator renders fine all the time. Therefor I think the problem is between photoshop export and acrobat, vectors are rendered with no problems.
I tried opening on different pc (also with acrobat 9 pro) with the same result. Systems are vista on exporting pc, the second pc is running windows7 beta. However on the third pc with windows XP and adobe reader 9 everything works fine.
Any ideas how to make this work?

You need to ask the Acrobat folks.
The PDF's out of Photoshop are all pixels -- there's no text for Acrobat to render.
And there's nothing special about PDFs from Photoshop.
So my best guess is that you're looking at an Acrobat bug.

Email id geterates in PDF Problem

I have a problem when generating a PDF in dat if i get email id. then in the log its generating
Possible variable substitution ignored. Variable 'gmail' not found. for any email id.
some times the dat is going in to loop that crashing the adobe server. Because the of its generating temp file.
Please help me to solve this solution.

Print Agent will
recognize @gmail as a variable definition and since it cannot find the variable gmail
it throws an error message.
To use reserved characters as plain text you need to use special variables (page 291 in documentation) and for email addresses that would ean that you replace your @ with @at. like this:

This is true. Adobe Reader 2.5 does not support this. Apparently Adobe Reader 1.5 does, but with 2.5 in firmware, you will be unable to downgrade. The only solution I know is a third party program called PDF+ . See http://www.mbrainsoftware.com/S60_3rd/Pdf/Details.htm#Editions . You would need at least the standard version.

Can any one tell me how to solve the problem with Email attachment in PDF. If i remove the logo of the client in the Smartform i am getting the Email attachment fine but when i put back the image in the smartform the PDF is giving error and not opening the attachment.

Dunning as PDF - Problem with output

Hi experts,
I have a problem with the dunning as email.
Everything works fine here with the dífferent threads (BTE 1040) - but the output is not in PDF-format. When I look at SOST, the attachment ist in *.EXT format...
Does anybody know what's the problem?

In transaction SCOT, check the format for Sapscript/Smartforms. Double click on the node for email. e.g .SMTP. In the pop-up window there is a section for supported address types. Beside 'Internet', click on the button SET. In here select PDF as the output format for Sapscript/Smartforms and for ABAP lists.
Also in SCOT, check Setttings -> Device types for Format Conversion, ensure that PDF is the target format.
