OS X RSS Screensaver problem

Just wondering if something is wrong here, but I can't get the Apple RSS screensaver to show more than four stories. I've tried different feeds, etc., and they all have many more than four items, but when the screensaver comes on it only displays the top four stories. As far as I remember, it used to be the top ten stories. Is this a feature change or is something weird going on?

Run Software Update, if nothing appears the open System Preferences - Print & Scan, highlight the device on the left pane and right click to reveal Reset Printing System.... and then restart the computer. If you still have a problem contact Minolta to see if they intend to support the device under Mavericks.

  • 10.5 RSS Screensaver not working

Probably a stupid question, but I tried setting OS 10.5's RSS screensaver to http://images.apple.com/main/rss/hotnews/hotnews.rss, and I keep getting the error message 'Your selected subscriptions contain no pictures".
On my new iMac, running 10.6, this doesn't give me an error message. I tried looking through the help, and it didn't help solve my issue...
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks so much!

I am having a different problem with the RSS Screensaver. When the info comes up, it used to say "Press the 1 Key for more" or something to that effect. Now there is no info about which key to press. Anyone know how to get this back? Switching RSS feeds doesn't solve the problem, and the Screensaver is pretty useless if I can't read the articles...
    Thank you...

  • Rss Screensaver OpenGL error in Console

I'm seeing this error in the console:
    2006-10-14 18:31:22.995 System Preferences[5520] * <QCGLCIImage = 0x165FBE50 | type = CIImage | dimensions = 512x512 | buffer = 0x0000-0x0000 | target = GLTEXTURE2D | ID = 2>: OpenGL error 0x0502 (invalid operation) during upload
It gets logged every time the RSS screensaver loads or I select it in system prefs. Searching here and google doesn't seem to help much.
    It's 10.4.8 on a 1.8Ghz Intel Mac Mini and I havn't installed any 3rd party screensavers.
The only thing I've noticed -since the screensaver works fine- is that the number after QCGLCIImage changes slightly.
Does anyone have any ideas? My console.log is filling up with this two times for every time the screensaver starts.
Too many to list   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    1. Is the problem occurring with Apple's RSS Visualizer screen saver, or a third-party RSS screen saver?
If the problem occurs with a third-party RSS feed screen saver, check for updates to it or report the problem to the developer. Some third-party screen savers written for PPC-based Macs do not work on Intel-based Macs.
    2. It's possible there are corrupted preferences afoot.1. Quit (Command-Q) System Preferences if it is open.
    2. Trash the following two files in your Home > Library > Preferences folder:
    • com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    • com.apple.desktop.plist
    3. Trash the following files in your Home > Library > Preferences > ByHost folder:
    (a) com.apple.systempreferences.xxx.plist
    (b) com.apple.screensaver.xxx.plist
    (c) com.apple.screensaver.screensaver_name.xxx.plist
where• xxx is an alphanumeric string, and
    • screensaver_name is the name of a screen saver you have used.Whether preferences files of the type shown in (c) exist depends upon the screen saver and if you have changed its options, if any.
    4. Open your Home > Library > Caches folder, then trash the following two files therein:
    • com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
    • com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache
    5. Empty the Trash.
    6. Launch System Preferences and see if all is well. If so, reset Desktop & Screen Saver preferences accordingly.Good luck!

  • Missing the RSS Screensaver

I am trying to understand the RSS screensaver, I have had this running at work on my Quicksilver G4, but recently I have switched on and it is no longer in the list.
At home my upgraded G3 also does not have this screensaver option present. What actually makes it appear or not. The only change to my work Mac is that it has been moved to a new building and network. So this does not seem to stack up with graphics card or processor power.
    Can anyone advise?

Since you had directory corruption that was corrected, but the problem persists, you're running out of options:
    1. Check all preferences with Preferential Treatment. Other preferences may be corrupted.
    2. When the problem occurs, e.g. you open System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver and you don't see the screen savers you're seeking, check the ends of these Console logs for clues. Clues could include messages relating to System Preferences, the Desktop or Screen Saver preference pane, etc.
I suspect you're heading down a path that will eventually lead to reinstalling Mac OS X via Archive and Install, but I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet.
    3. Question: How are you opening the Screen Saver preferences panel? Are you launching System Preferences by double-clicking its icon in the Applications folder and then selecting the Desktop & Screen Saver preference pane? If not, (a) try that and (b) describe precisely (step-by-step) how you are opening the Screen Saver preferences.
I ask as some third-party menu extras that open specific preference panes have been problematic at times (e.g. MenuPrefs, PrefsMenu), and there's a minor bug with Screen Saver preferences related to the Computer Name screen saver — see my "Computer Name screen saver appears as a folder" FAQ.
    Good luck!

  • Pixelated images in RSS screensaver

I added two RSS photo feeds to my RSS screensaver, one from flickr, one from Picasa online. The photos on both those sites are large, high-resolution photos. Yet 9 in 10 of those photos that cycle through the screensaver have incredibly poor image quality. They're extremely pixelated, making them look like I tried to make stretch a 1x1-inch thumbnail onto the whole 20-inch screen.
When I take one of those photos directly from the web page to make it my desktop background, it displays fine, no pixelation, so I know it's possible to display them good on a big 20" monitor!

If the image already has a custom thumbnail, that is what CoverFlow will display. If it doesn't, then CoverFlow will draw a thumb from the image content, and it will draw thumbs up to about 500 pixels in size. By resaving the photos with Photoshop, you undoubtedly got Photoshop's custom thumbnails clapped onto the image, and those thumbs are only 128 pixels. You have a choice: if you want to see custom thumbs, because they will display faster in Finder, then you will see those in CoverFlow and the quality will be poor at larger sizes; or you can forgo having custom thumbs and allow CoverFlow to draw the larger size thumbnails it is capable of showing. Finder will also draw thumbs for other views for files that have no thumbnails, it will do this on the fly, and will display them just fine, just noticeably slower. You tell it to do so using View->Show view options and check the box to "Show icon preview"--you need to do this for each sort of view (and the wording for showing an icon varie slightly with each sort of view). You can then click the "Use as Defaults" button at the bottom for Icon and List view. Individual folders that have their own settings (they have the "Always Open in" option checked at the top of the View Options pane) won't be affected, if you want them to you'll have to change things for those specific folders in the options pane.
Also, if you opt to not have custom thumbnails, you will need to tell Photoshop to stop putting them on the images. You do this in Photoshop's preferences. There's one "gotcha" doing this though: if the image has an alpha channel Finder will display the file as if the alpha channel were turned on as a mask. The only way to actually see the complete thumbnail for the image is with Photoshop's custom thumb, which will be 128 pixels max size.

  • RSS screensaver

    Hello all,
I have my screensaver set to show RSS newsfeeds. In Tiger it would show 10 feeds before starting again, while in Leopard it shows only 4. Anyone would know how to change this back to 10 per round? I thought it might be the source of the feeds, but I tried with different sources and it's always only 4.
    Thanks so much,
    Gabriel

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I really liked the
RSS screensaver before I finally got online - the
colour and the gentle undulations were soothing to
me, but when I was 'hooked up' I found that there
were bits of news items rotating around! Is there any
way to just have the screensaver without the RSS
    items please?
Choose another screensaver from all the soothing ones on offer?

  • RSS screensaver + WordPress

    Hello forum.
    Here is my issue.
I have a photo blog based on WordPress. I'm used to post photos on it very often. I'd like to use those pictures for my screensaver.
It looks obvious to use the RSS screensaver, but with the feed provided by WordPress, no pictures are found.
Do you know how to fix this ? Can feedburner help ?
Thank in advance for the support.
    Arnaud

It's a workaround, but I got my screensaver back:
In iPhoto, choose Subscribe to Photo Feed from the File menu. Enter your RSS feed. I used the RSS link from SmugMug for example. iPhoto will synch the feed to iPhoto. In Screensaver, that Album is now available in the Source dialog to choose.  I think you'll have to open iPhoto to update the feed.

  • Rss screensaver hotkeys not working

I use the the rss screensaver - the BBC tech edition - under the headlines it says 'press the (numeral) key to read more' - pressing the key used to bring up FF with the relevant article. But now it doesn't work -- any ideas?

I think the RSS feed button is expecting to see a URL of either http://web.mac.com/tpardon/todpardon/Video_Podcast/rss.xml OR
    feed://www.pardondesign.com/todpardon/Video_Podcast/rss.xml
Are you uploading your podcast separately to your 3rd party server? Are you modifying any of your folders on .Mac or your 3rd party server?

  • Yosemite screensaver problem. Constsantly reverts back to National Geographic.

Has anyone found a fix to the screensaver problem? Nothing I try seems to work, including editing the Library files.
    Thanks.

Here's an idea for a work around. Go to theNational Geographic photos folder and substiture your own photos. Under the finder menu, select go and then "go to folder" and paste in /Library/Screen Savers/Default Collections/1-National Geographic That will show the content. Save those pictures if you like to a folder somewhere and add your own photos to the national geographic folder..

Make sure and run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions BEFORE and AFTER installing the update.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.
    Also, have you by chance downloaded and installed the BETA version of Safari? If so go here;

  • Looking for a RSS Screensaver that uses less CPU/GPU resources

Does anyone know of a screensaver that displays RSS feed items without all the CPU/GPU resource hogging animation as the default Leopard RSS screensaver does?

  • Way to Randomize RSS screensaver?

Is there a way to randomize which RSS feed the built in RSS screensaver uses? If so, is there a way then to pre-select which feeds you want in the random selection?

    Hi Lisa Vogt-
Navigate to ->System Preferences ->Desktop and Screen Saver ->Click the "Hot Corners" Button.
At that point you should see see four drop-down menus. The very bottom selection is a "-" which basically means that corner is off. You may also chose other options from those drop-down menus.

  • RSS screensaver: I can not press '1' to read article on AZERTY keybord

    Hi,
When I use the RSS screensaver, I can not press '1' to read the article. I am using a AZERTY keybord on my MacBook and when I try to press '1', the screensaver stops and nothing else happens. I suppose it is because I need to press shift to enter a number...
I already tried to use shift-lock before starting the screensaver. Same issue...
    Any ideas?

  • I really am struggling to like the upgrade, but the screensaver problems are awful...I have tried most of the solutions offered here, and the problem still persists...PLEASE fix it, Apple. I wish I had not upgraded my ipad.

I am really struggling to like this upgrade, but the screensaver problems are so disappointing...I have tried most of the suggested solutions but the outsized photo problem still persists on my ipad. Pretty close to a deal breaker!  Please fix this, Apple.  I really wish I had not upgraded...can it be undone?  I really dislike the camera roll, too : (

No one from Apple monitors these forums, so it isn't the place to voice complaints or suggestions. Go here:

    There's a screensaver with iOS? I don't think so.

  • RSS Screensaver - "read more" link disappears

There is, or atleast there was, a link "read more" right below the headlines that were sweeping the screen in screensavers RSS mode.
One day few weeks ago it just wasn´t there. By then the problem was fixed, cause I had to re-instal whole system 10.4.7 for some other reason. After re-instal screensaver functioned normally, for couple of weeks, but today it happened again, there is no link ?!?
It´s not big thing that the link is missing, but like to get it fixed anyway.
