OS X Server - Client Backups After Upgrade

My OS X Server 10.6.8, client backup disks for Time Machine are not available under OS X Server 10.8. I can't find where to set up Time Machine for the OS X clients. Any help or suggestions are welcome.

I'm not very familiar with the server product.
But I understand that you cannot back up a client to an exernal HD connected to the server; only to an internal volume there.
You may want to browse or post in the server forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/servers_enterprise_software/os_x_server

i am experiencing low battery backup after upgrade to OS X Mavericks

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

  • Imac keeps crashing in time machine backup after upgrade to mountain lion

2008 imac kept crashing (shutdown and restart) during first backup after upgraded to mountain lion. The backup size was about 10GB but time machine crashed after a while (at most 2GB) and never completed backup. So, I don't have any backup since right before I upgraded from Lion. Any suggestion?

Something strange happened. I was able to get time machine to work by going out to the login screen (the account kept logged in) and let it run the backup with the screen off (screen auto off after a few min). I tried it on two different external drives and that did the trick on both. Since the initial Mountain Lion backup was huge (155 GB), I was quite surprise that it worked at all. I assume your MBP was a Lion to ML. I also just did a 2012 MBP upgrade but that one was smoother. I did not recall having crashing issue. One thing I did find during this was that my WD passport USB drive was corrupted. Not sure it was the cause or not. I had to erase and reformat to get it back to work. Maybe do a verify disk to confirm. Good luck.

  • Strange Client Behavior after upgrading to 10g

    Hello Friends !!!!
    Here is my scenario:
    Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.3
    Windows 2008 Server SP2
After upgrading from oracle 9.2.0.1.0 and Windows 2003 Server I'm facing a strange behavior.
Many times over the days some machines do not release some table resources even having their status "INACTIVE" and the wait event "SQL *Net message from client" and wait class "IDLE".
Therefore, i got a lot of locked sessions, and users complaining..... until I kill them
The client machine was as well switched to Oracle 10g client....
Have you guys got any tips about this scenario?
    Tks for any advice.

    About the lock queue:
    1. blocking session has an exclusive table lock on VENDEDORES table; this is very rare in application because most of the time not needed: application code should try to avoid to take such kind of lock.
    2. blocked sessions request a row share table lock: it looks like that VENDEDORES table is a child table linked to some parent table with a foreign key constraint and that an index on the child table foreign key is missing (this kind of lock is requested if you DELETE from parent table or update parent table primary key).
About the lock session: this is the blocking session that is waiting since 19 seconds on client: it is likely an application issue: you should try to investigate what the client (aservice.exe) is doing while holding an exclusive table lock.

    Hi,
I found an oracle note with the next solution:
Add -Xverify:none to the JVM Arguments in the WebLogic console if you're using Node Manager to start managed servers:
    1. Go into WebLogic Console
    2. Navigate to Environment> Servers> [Sever_name]> Server Start> Arguments
    3. Add -Xverify:none to the arguments
    4. Restart the WebLogic server
    5. Retest the issue.
    6. Migrate the solution as appropriate to other environments.
    Or
If you're not using Node Manager to start managed servers:
Edit the WebLogic start-up script to add -Xverify:none to the JVM arguments
See if it works for you

  • Extremely Slow Time Machine Backup after upgrading to 10.8.3

Time machine backups are taking an extremely long time on my retina MacBook Pro 13 inch after upgrading to 10.8.3. It's taking many minutes just for a kilobyte to be backed up. I've tested transferring something to the disk and it's lightening fast so there's nothing wrong with the disk.
Is anyone having similar issues or know of a fix?

I had the same problem with slow backups. Called Apple 5 times and went through all the hoops checking plists, airport, and then erasing using my airport utility and the first backup of about 25-30 gigs went fine, but the second backup would take between 1-2 hours. By the time it was finished it was ready to do another backup.
After looking at community fixes I found that my Comcast Norton Anti Virus was the problem. Upon speaking for the 6th time to Apple I was told that should have been the first thing they asked, since antivirus programs check each file going to the time capsule. Even unchecking the scan external drives did not help.
I removed the Norton AV from my system and replaced it with the IAV from apple store (free) and my backups are back to normal. I timed a 100 meg using Ethernet/LAN and it took 9 minutes 32 seconds from clicking backup now, searching for backups, preparing backup, backingup, and cleanup. My Wifi connection on 10 megs took only 1 minute 29 seconds.
Now my backups run so fast I don't even see them working. Also the constant updates to Norton were casuing my backups to be 100 megs or more each time due to daily Norton updates. Now I get backups in the order of 10-20 megs - depending up what I have put on the machine. If I put music on it increases the size of the files installed.
I recommend anyone having this slow time capsule problem to turn off your full antivirus program no matter what you are using and watch the difference in speed. I am so happy! No more 2 hour backups and 45 minutes to 1 hour preparing backup! good luck

  • Time Machine backup after upgrading from 10.6

    Hi all,
I'm planning to upgrade from 10.6.8 to 10.7 on a MacBook from 2007, and I have a question about my Time Machine set-up. I have this backing up on an external HD, and I am wondering if, when I've upgraded to 10.7, the Time Machine software will access the same set-up I had in 10.6.8? Will it just pick up from where 10.6.8 left off or will I have to start again?
    Thanks,
    David

  • Unable to backup after upgrade to 8i

(first off i am Oracle ignorant so bear with me) Our NT4 server has an app (Medialogics Logician) that was running Oracle 7 and then the app was upgraded which also meant upgrading Oracle to 8i. Now i am unable to connect to the database with Backup Exec, all i see is the archive and database control files. And i also get a "logon failure" in the event veiwer now. I've tried everything i can think of, the vendor is clueless and we have no true Oracle people here. Any suggestions? I found one thing about specifying the default SID in the registry but no instructions on how to do this.

I solved the problem by myself and wanted to share the method with everyone:
I suspected that there was some corrupt data on my device and thought the most likely candidates were either the saved photos or some of the applications that saved data on the iPod (e.g., the news apps or the ToDo App). I started off by deleting the photos, rebooting and backing up. This didn't work.
Then I went ahead and deleted the applications I described above. I found that deleting all the applications at once didn't work. I had to delete them one at a time and rebooting after each delete (uninstall). I tried backing up after this step and things worked out well. Hence, I was able to update my device to 2.0.1.

  • Mail server not working after upgrade

After a few hours, my server finally came back up however mail is not working.
In the /var/log/mail.log I see many error  messages related to the same thing from Postfix whenever an inbound mail is recieved.
    May 24 06:26:22 my.server.com postfix/postscreen[25712]: CONNECT from [62.13.138.73]:64283 to [192.168.0.3]:25

    May 24 06:26:23 my.server.com postfix/master[54]: warning: process /usr/libexec/postfix/postscreen pid 25712 exit status 1
    Help!

I'd guess that the postscreen database is missing or corrupt.
please issue the following Terminal.app commands:
    postconf -n -c /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/ | grep -i postscreen
    postconf -c /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/ | grep -i postscreen
and anonymize the output if and as desired.   If you anonymize, please consistenty replace the domain portion of your URL(s) to example.com, example.net and/or example.org (these are RFC-reserved bogus domains) and replace the server's host name to something else if that's more sensitive than "mail" or "www" or "server" — consistency in these changes is important — and alter any IP addresses included (other than 127.0.0.1 / localhost) to 10.20.30.40 (or some other private IP address — again, consistency in these changes is important — and then post that output here.
Before making any changes, get a complete system backup or two, on an external disk.  That's your path back if something here goes badly wrong, weird or otherwise untoward.
Once there are complete backups and entirely as a test / guess / experiment, I'd look to rename an existing postscreen database out of the way and see if a new cache database gets created, and would also check the file ownerships and protections of the files in that area.
    $ sudo ls -ale@ /Library/Server/Mail/Data/mta/
    Password:
    total 48
    drwxr-x---   5 _postfix  mail     170 Jan 30 15:20 .
    drwxr-xr-x  13 root      wheel    442 Jan 28 10:57 ..
    -rw-------   1 _postfix  mail      33 May  5 16:08 master.lock
    -rw-------   1 _postfix  mail   16384 May 24 08:22 postscreen_cache.db
    -rw-------   1 _postfix  mail    1024 May 24 10:04 prng_exch
    $
The two files that are most interesting in the above are the . and postscreen_cache.db files.
There is also an upgrade log around, and you'll definitely want to have a look in that — to see what (else?) went wrong here.  (Off the top, I don't recall the name of the upgrade log file.  In recent releases, it's usually something like /var/log/install.log — also check the system logs for "upgrade" messages.)

  • DI Server license problem after upgrading to SP01 PL4

    Hi.
After I've upgraded to SP01 PL4 my Web Services that use the DI Server API do not work anymore. The SBO Client is working correctly and the DI Server and License Manager are running, too.
When I try to login with License Server DEVELOPERCOMP (my computer), I'm getting the Message  'Connection with License Server failed'.
Then I've read that you have to add the port number of the license server. So, I entered DEVELOPERCOMP:30000, but I'm getting the error 'License does not exist'. I'm using the manager account and it has the licenses Professional User, SAP AddOns and SDK Tools.
I've also turned the firewall off, but it this doesn't work.
It is really urgent, because one of our customers upgraded to SP01 and want to use our web services again.

Ok, everything works fine except one thing: I cannot get all keys of orders of one vendor. my code looks like this:
                Dim DISNode As New SBODI_Server.Node
                Dim sSOAPans, sCmd As String
                sCmd = "<?xml version=""1.0"" encoding=""UTF-16""?>"
                sCmd += "<env:Envelope xmlns:env=""http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"">"
                sCmd += "<env:Header><SessionID>" & SessionID & "</SessionID></env:Header>"
                sCmd += "<env:Body><dis:GetObjectKeyBySingleValue xmlns:dis=""http://www.sap.com/SBO/DIS"">"
                sCmd += "<ObjNum>oPurchaseOrders</ObjNum>"
'if suppliername is "", return all open orders
                If SupplierName.Trim = String.Empty Then
                    sCmd += "<PropName>DocEntry</PropName>"
                    sCmd += "<Value>" & String.Empty & "</Value>"
                    sCmd += "<Condition>bqc_NotEqual</Condition>"
                Else
                    sCmd += "<PropName>CardName</PropName>"
                    sCmd += "<Value>" & XmlProcessing.getStringXmlEncoded(SupplierName) & "</Value>"
                    sCmd += "<Condition>bqc_Equal</Condition>"
                End If
                sCmd += "</dis:GetObjectKeyBySingleValue></env:Body></env:Envelope>"
                sSOAPans = DISNode.Interact(sCmd)
If I enter no vendor name, so that I get the keys for all orders, it works. But If I enter a vendor name, I'm getting an empty response.
The funny thing is that all other requests I'm doing are working. I can get a list of all vendors, I can search for an item by its item code, I can add an unscheduled receipt and so on. Before I upgraded to SP01 it has worked fine for several weeks.
    Does someone has a clue?

  • Time Machine deleted all my backups after upgrading to Yosemite!!!! Help!!!!

Hi all! I'm in deep, deep trouble!! I was on Lion, and had all my backups on an external hard drive done by the Time Machine.
So after I did a clean install to upgrading to Yosemite. So I was left with my Imac with nothing on it, Yosemite, and the applications that I've been installing manually.
However, Time Machine starting backing again my Imac with Yosemite, and decided to delete ALL BACKUPS of when I was with Lion!!!
Now I'm only have my new Backups(3 days old), and ALL MY WORK IS GONE!! (About 1TB of precised organised info!!!)
I tried a software called Data Recovery and whilst is recovering only a 50% of all deleted data after a scanning, now its retrieving that info with new names i.e. 0001,0002,0003 and organising depending on name of extension i.e: PDF,JPEG...therefore becoming totally useless as it will take literally YEARS to put it back the way it was.
Please HELP, I don't know what to do!!!
My profesional life is depending on it!!

Have you tried removing the whole xorg or the the whole xorg-drivers group? The latter may not work, because:
    [karol@black ~]$ pacman -Rns xorg-drivers
    checking dependencies...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: xorg-server: requires xf86-input-evdev
that's why I suggester removing the whole xorg group.
You can use the '-dd' switch:
    [karol@black ~]$ pacman -Rdd xorg-drivers
    Targets (4):
Name Old Version New Version Net Change
    xf86-input-evdev 2.6.0-4 -0,05 MiB
    xf86-video-fbdev 0.4.2-5 -0,03 MiB
    xf86-video-intel 2.17.0-2 -0,78 MiB
    xf86-video-vesa 2.3.0-7 -0,04 MiB
    Total Removed Size: 0,90 MiB
Do you want to remove these packages? [Y/n]
just be sure to reinstall Intel drivers.

  • How does time machine handle initial backup after upgrading to Yosemite?

    HI All,
I'm wondering if Time machine will create a "new" full backup of the system after I upgrade to Yosemite.
I'm trying to make sure I can backout (revert to previous backup of Mavericks) of the upgrade should I run into trouble.
    Thanks,
    Eddy817

besides restoring just one file, that is what Time machine DOES. See this article:
Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions -- 14. How do I restore my entire system?
If you are deeply concerned, you may want make a copy of your entire system before updating (Clone your old system) or Install onto a Blank drive and add your files to that.
If you make NO preparation and do not have a Backup, the only way to install a previous versions is to do so onto a Blank drive. Also, you must have PURCHASED (even for $0) a copy of Mavericks, or it will not be available for re-download.
