OS X Server For Cross-Platform Gaming Servers?

The only reason I have interest in running an OS X Server is for video game servers. I'm not familiar with OS X Server, but would it be able to run a video game server for a video game that is only for PC? How about a game for Mac and PC?

Under my advanced settings I have this...
[email protected], com.apple.idms.appleid.prd.427xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx5a3341513d3d
(In dont know what the com.apple.idms etc is - it was automatically inserted so I left it in)
I restarted the mail server and tried to send an email to [email protected] (after wiating 24 hours).
From gmail to [email protected] I get a bounce back to gmail saying...

Is this a bug with the OS X Server 3.0.1 UI?

  • Lumira Server for BI Platform and Team/Edge consumption & licensing question

Hi.  I have a few questions.
    Question 1:
From my reading, I've heard that Lumira Edge/Team server may not be a part of BI-Suite License.  I read a Lumira Server ASUG Webcast recap by Tammy Powlas here (SAP Lumira Server for Teams Roadmap ASUG Webcast) over the weekend and one of the Q&A questions struck me:
Q: Is this included with the BI Suite license from SAP?
A: Lumira Server for Teams (Edge Edition) is not covered under BI Suite License. However, Lumira Server for BI Platform (RTC Planned in April) is covered under BI Suite licenses
In a separate conversation late 2014, I thought I'd heard that Lumira Team/Edge server was supposed to be usable by BI Suite licensed customers, but it sounds like I'm mistaken?
    Question 2:
Next, the second part of the statement gave me hope:
However, Lumira Server for BI Platform (RTC Planned in April) is covered under BI Suite licenses
I then looked at the Lumira Deployment Options for Departments Part 1 – ASUG Webcast by Tammy Powlas to get some more information on Lumira Server for BI Platform.  This slide gave me some hope (emphasis mine in green):
But then I see some more information a little later:
Is this slide to imply that the version without HANA (or HANA XS) for BI Platform will only really just serve as a user rights management and Lumira document repository?  And that if I want to view a Lumira document, I must still open from the Lumira Desktop client?
It was suggested I start a new discussion thread to ask this licensing question about a product that's not out yet (but the slide says it's GA so I'm still confused) so here I am with my discussion thread!
Hopefully someone can make me less confused.  I'm hoping the answer is as a BI-Suite customer that we do not have to make a decision to either invest in new Edge/Team licenses or buy HANA XS hardware to establish a beachhead of Lumira usage in our organization.  We've been struggling with promoting Lumira and the sharing piece has been the sore spot.

    Hi Michael
You are right, it is confusing...
I think it will be better to contact sales to get this explained as opposed to technical support people that monitor this SCN Space.

  • Recommendations for cross-platform software development?

I'm considering developing a new shareware product and I'd like for it to be able to run on both OS X and Windows, and Linux too if that ends up not requiring too much more effort.
I've been a Java programmer for many years now, making Java in some ways a very obvious solution. But I've never been all that pleased with the look and the performance of Java Swing GUIs. Swing isn't all that bad for some uses, but it can be clumsy in many ways (like Mac open/save file dialogs), doesn't always get the look-and-feel of a particular platform quite right, misses many platform-specific features one might want to access -- in short, Java-based apps seldom manage to have the fit-and-finish of off-the-shelf, shrink-wrapped commercial software.
I could stick with Java and try out the SWT toolkit (it's better at getting native look-and-feel, and native performance) for building a GUI, but from what I've read SWT has its limitation as well, and besides, because of the nature of the product I have in mind -- something dealing with audio and music -- a lot of the open source code I'd like to incorporate into my product is written in C or C++, and I might need to do some low-level driver work too. Trying to bridge all of that into a Java app with lots of JNI work doesn't seem like the best route to take.
I could learn C# and use Mono to make my stuff work for OS X, but, although I've never worked with C# and whatever standard GUI libraries one would typically use with C#, I suspect that it will work best for Windows and be kind of iffy for Mac use.
All this said, I'm fairly certain that, after many years away from it, the best thing for me to do is get back into using C++ for this project.
From my cursory preliminary research, the best looking C++ cross-platform development library I've seen so far is Qt from Trolltech. It's also very expensive from the viewpoint of a start-up operation -- a few thousand dollars, even with a 65% discount given to small start-ups.
There's the totally free, open-source wxWidgets, but it sounds like wxWidgets' Mac support isn't the greatest, and it sounds like it's noticeably buggier than Qt. Maybe it would still be good enough for my uses, but I don't know that yet -- which is one reason I'm writing this post, hoping others have had some experience with it.
Anyone know any other C++ cross platform toolkits for general GUI application development? One article I read said:
If your needs are a free cross-platform environment, then wxWidgets is your best and only solution. However, for under $100, you can find a cross-platform environment with a much better Macintosh user experience than wxWidgets.
I can't seem to find any of these better-than-wxWidgets, under-$100 solutions, however. Suggestions, anyone?

    Hi--
I think, from looking at that page he must be talking about the CPLAT framwork. It's kind of hard to figure out from that page, but he's got another page with information on CPLAT here.
It looks like it's $50 for the license. You can also look at the official CPLAT site for more info. I've never used it, though, so I can't really say whether it's any good or not. But there is a trial version available...

  • Formattiing a Lacie for cross-platform video production

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post but here goes:
I've been working on FCP and macs for a few years now, but just started grad school where they have a deal with Avid and are therefore 100% PC based. I want to be able to work at home on my mac/macbook pro as well as at school with LARGE files, and bought a lacie 1TB after a massive G-Drive failure and the worst tech support ever.
Can I format the drive to work on both? Ive heard FATS32 is the way to go with cross-platform but I will be working regularly with 10GB files and up, so the 4GB restriction there won't work. Basically is there any way to both read/write files onto the drive from the AVID studios at school to my AVID studio at home without complicated partitioning of the drive, etc.
    ANy help is appreciated!

    Hi
The LaCie software and firmware updates are available from their support site here:
    http://www.lacie.com/us/support/index.htm?rid=10033
Just select your drive model from the list at this url.
You will also find a very useful FAQ there too. I seem to remember that this very topic is covered there, but I could be mistaken.
I hate to say it but you may have to go back to the beginning and just use the LaCie software to do the cross platform partition. The third party software might not do it for you but try the LaCie firmware update first as it may be all you'll need, (if you need it).

  • Registering the mobile device on mobile server for linux platforms

    Dear all,
    My scenario fits like dis.........
I m using oracle 9i and oraclelite 10g on redhat linux 9 platform.I m using a handheld EPOS device activated with GPRS.It is basically a swiper machine which is used for bank transactions. The port which I m using are Serial port and USB.my device is not getting detected in WEBTOGO.I heard that I should register my device with the mobile server.but i dont know how to register on linux platforms....I've got a MAC Id for my EPOS device.....cud i do anything with MAC Id?.....and where I have to see whether the device has been detected?
if any body used oracle lite 10g on linux platforms, plz make me a call.
I dont know how to use msql in linux platforms?...how to create a database using msql?
    my mobile no. is +91-98433-32738.

Did you install anything from Oracle Lite on that EPOS device of yours ? If so, how did you install and what did you install ?
Usually, when you install a Oracle Lite client on the device, the device should get registered during installation.

  • Info on programming for cross-platform iPhone, MacOSX, DashCode?

Is there documentation which shows a nice to-do list for converting apps designed for the iPhone, the Mac (OSX) and Mac (Dashboard/DashCode) into one or more of the other two?
I started with the iPhone, which is probably the most restrictive. I'm hoping this was a good decision, since splitting out into multiple windows or a larger window with panes should be easier than manipulating a small screen. I would like to "port" my app(s) to the other two platforms, if at all possible without rewriting it. (Although that is a possibility, in order to make the code more portable to all three platforms).
My question, before I start a thorough search, is where to start in the documentation to begin the undertaking, probably iPhone to MacOSX first, then back to DashCode.
I would also like to at least review any documentation geared for this before I dive into my next project, so I can think ahead while designing and writing the actual code.
    Thanks!
    -Carl

    Hi,
I think you have to choose whether your applications will be distributed through the App Store (Developer Program) or in-house (Developer Enterprise Program). If they are distributed through the App Store, Apple will take 30%. You can create your own "App Store" for in-house over-the-air deployment.
    http://developer.apple.com/support/ios/enterprise.html
In my opinion, this is one of the reasons why iOS is not the right platform for enterprise apps.

  • IBM Virtual IO Server for SAP Production Application Servers

    Hi.
We are planning to host SAP (AIX/Oracle) on a new IBM p-570. We want to install a LPAR for the DB/CI and 2 additional LPAR's for DI's. The problem is that we have to use Virtual Ethernet connections for the 2 DI's since we do not have physical network adapters for them. Will this be a SAP supported configuration or not, and why not?
    Regards
    Pieter
    [email protected]

    Hi Pieter,
your plan is totally feasible and supported by SAP.
You can use the VIO server to provide both Ethernet and I/O connections for all LPARs which do have have own physical adapters.
All specifics of micropartitioning and HW virtualization (like VIO) under AIX 5.3 and System p technology are supported. There are multiple SAP customers, who use this setup for their whole system environment.

  • External Hard Drive  Formatting  For Cross Platform File Sharing

I have been doing some research on formatting options that can read/write both OSX and Win7. Someone recommended that I use UDF. I'm curious hearing from the apple community whether there are any downsides to choosing this formatting method. Are there any other better ones to use? Thanks

Best I can tell, UDF is for DVDs and CDs, not HDDs.
If you want a compatible format for Mac and Windows on a HDD, FAT 32 or ExFAT will fit the bill.  Fat32 does have a 4 GB file size limitation.  It is best to format these on a PC.
You can use NTFS, but then you need third party software such as Paragon or Tuxere in order to write to the HDD.
    Ciao.

  • How to make cross platform screensavers

I work on an Imac on os X. I need to make screensavers for
cross platform (win/mac) distribution. I have flash 8 pro. Is there
any viable solution cheaper than the $200 for "Iscreensaver" or
$300 for "screentime" softwares? Failing that, does anyone have a
preference between the two? do you know if they allow flash

Unfortunately there is no choices for you when comes to MAC.
    Windows has over
30 really good screensaver tools, some of which very capable
    and totally free.
Myself do not use Mac but friends who do, use the
    "screentime" as preferred tool.
Check the features, see what you need and which tools deliver
    what you looking
for than pick the winner :)

  • Recommended way to unit test mobile cross platform C++ in Visual Studio 2015

    Hello,
I'm playing with the new Visual Studio 2015 to check its capabilities for cross platform development using C++ as coding language. I've seen several videos in Channel9 about this feature but I don't remember hearing in any of these a word about how
to unit test such projects from Visual Studio 2015. Is there some recommended way to create unit tests for such projects?
I'm not sure I can use Visual Studio test projects for C++ to test the android library or the Windows Phone 8.1. If I add a new platform ARM to a test project of those, I cannot select in the platform toolset combo the values that I have for my libraries
(Clang 3.4 and Windows 8.1 respectively). So it seems that such test projects are not addressed for cross platform c++ in VS2015.
I also have tried to make a second cross platform library project to contain the tests, adding there the Catch.h file from catch framework or adding the files from Google Test framework. My idea was to link each cross platform test library with their corresponding
"production code" libraries. In both cases (catch and gtest) I have problems when trying to compile the test framework files (not sure if it is not possible or just my fault being new at C++ for mobile platforms).
Has anyone succeeded unit testing the cross platform c++ code in VS2015? How?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jorge.

    Hi Jorge,
Thanks you for posting in MSDN forum.
Based on your issue, since VS2015 Preview is previews for the next major release of Visual Studio, currently we forums don’t provide support for VS2015 Preview. So the product team would accept the suggestions or feedbacks for the VS2015 now.
So you can submit the feedback/suggestions to Microsoft Connect feedback portal:

  • Cross-platform upgrade question

I'm posting this question here as I have had less than satisfactory results from asking Customer Support about this issue. I know this forum is moderated by some great folks at Adobe and am hoping someone can clear up this question for me.
I currently own CS3 Design Premium for Windows, and need to purchase CS5 for Mac. A search for "Cross platform swap" on Adobe brought me to this page: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405819.html. However, the instructions there don't match what is offered on the support page. Under Return/Exchange/Refund I have only the following options:
    Duplicate Order
Product Didn't perform/ work as expected
    Purchased Incorrect upgrade
    Purchased Wrong Product/Platform/Language
    Shipping Problems
    Unable to Download Order
    Wrong Product delivered
None of those options is correct as described in the KB article. I decided to chat with Customer Support, and the rep told me that all I had to do is order the upgrade and I could choose which platform to install on first run. Really? The Rep said CS5 included two discs, one for Windows install and one for OS X. He assured me that I would have no problem installing a CS5 upgrade on my Mac, even though I have never installed CS3 on that machine.
I am skeptical about this solution for two reasons: one, Adobe has never offered Win and Mac discs together for CS versions. Two, when I go to pre-order CS5 I need to make a choice between platforms.
Has Adobe changed its method of delivering Creative Suite products? Are both platform discs really included? If not, there are two things that need to be done:
Article http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405819.html needs to be corrected. The steps as described cannot be completed.
Customer Support reps need to be notified that they are providing incorrect information regarding cross-platform upgrade procedures.
Finally, I need correct information as to how to go about upgrading my CS3 Windows to CS5 Mac. Do I purchase an upgrade disc and use my CS3 serial number to install? Do I do some sort of return, and if so, how?
Thanks in advance to anyone from Adobe who is willing to take the time to answer my question.

I don't represent Adobe in any capacity other than a mostly satisfied user. Here's what I did on a cross platform (Windows to Mac) exchange--not an upgrade, but my experience may help you.
I, too, found that the directions didn't match the support web site.  So I used 'Purchased wrong...' as my subject.  I then completely described what I wanted to do in the comments section.  I included my current platform version and serial number in the comments. After posting I had a case number to enter onto the Letter of Destruction (LOD) which I then attached to the case. I don't know if a LOD is required in your situation as you will be paying for an upgrade.  You should be able to keep both packages active-but customer support will probably know.  In my case I had to certify that I had destroyed the original Windows package.
After this was posted to the Adobe Customer Support Portal I then had a case number I could give to the telephone customer support so I called them.  While on the line with them they read my case file and informed me my credit card would be charged $5.95 for shipping.  Six days later I had the CS4 Design Premium for the Mac.  It *should* be just as easy for you.
I must say that I have had to call Adobe Customer Support a handful of times in the last couple of years.  In each and every case I received prompt and accurate information that solved my problem or pointed me directly to the solution.  I am aware that this is not always the case and wish you good luck.

  • Cross platform migration question.

I have a customer that is currently runnning oracle 10g databases on solaris 64 bit operating system on sun m4000 and m5000 hardware. The customer is looking to move to the redhat 6 operating system.
I am wanting to know what method will be available for me to migrate the databases as the endian on the files are different? Will transportable tablespaces work with the different endian?
    Thanks.
