OS X Server rejects emails with empty subject

OS X Server rejects email that has empty subjects. This is not bad in itself, but several clients have complained that their emails have been rejected by the sever because there was no subject specified in the email.
Is there any command line setting that would configure this?
Thanks
Jeff

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the help.
I followed your instructions. However, the problem seems to persist with a test email that I sent out.
Here is the error message:
This report relates to a message you sent with the following header fields:
Message-id: <[email protected]>
Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2012 15:14:55 +0200
From: Jeffrey Hargrove <[email protected]>
To: Jeff Hargrove <[email protected]>
Subject:
Your message cannot be delivered to the following recipients:
Recipient address: [email protected]
Reason: SMTP transmission failure has occurred
Diagnostic code: smtp;550 5.7.1 empty subject header
Remote system: dns;mail.jeffhargrove.com (TCP|17.172.220.239|64701|212.198.87.10|25) (server.jeffhargrove.com ESMTP Postfix)
I noticed that the line in the custom_headers_check is not exactly what you indicated in your post. The one on my system is:
/^subject: *$/ REJECT empty subject header
I did verify that there is a hash before the line after quitting and restarting and the hash is still there.
I'm assuming that this is my server error and not my isp's doing. I sent an email with an empty subject from gmail using a browser and got the rejection notice.
Do you have any other ideas?
Thanks
Jeff

  • Don't want Mail to group emails with same subject together

I got a new computer and now am using 10.8.4.  Mail is different.  I sent out an email to 20 people with the same subjuect line and text and when people replied, MaiL would put other replies all together on one long email.  I like seeing my replies separately in my inbox.  Can I change that?
Also a real estate agent sends me new listings with the subject New Listing Updates.  So she sent me three today and they were all three in one email.  I almost forgot to scroll to see that there were two more after I read the first one.  I want them to be separate in my inbox.  Seems like it is the same problem as above.
    Thanks for any tips

I have an IPHONE 3GS but currently I am having a problem when writing outgoing email. The SMTP server works fine but no matter I type, My receipient cannot receive the content part but Subject only. And the email app will show, sending out ... message in the bottom.
I tried to delete the account and recreate it. Hard reset, upgrade from 3.0 to 3.0.1. But all method doesn't work.

  • IMAP Email Portlet Error accessing email with blank subject field

I have sucessfully deployed imap portlet and added it to a page. I am able to read and compose emails. However while testing the portlet I ran into few problems:
    1. Cannot read an email from inbox if the subject field of email is blank. Only way to read this email is to first select an email that has a subject and then navigate through "next" or "previous" button to read this email.
    2. Some of the emails does not show the attachments. Some of them dooes show it. I am unable to figure why is it doing so.
    3. It takes too long to load and sometimes ends up in "portlet time out".
Has anyone else also ran into such problems. Is there a solution to these problems.
    Thanks
    Abhishek Periwal

    Thanks for early reply.
I analayzed my emails and figured out that email that are forwarded to me with some attachments have problems. These emails do not include the actual attachments , they only include the text part written by the sender. It will be great if this bug gets fixed.
Secondly I increased the time out and it helped. Thanks for your suggestion.
    Thanks

  • BES Server For Email With PC System Sync

    Good day,
By turning wireless sync off on the Blackberry I have the environment I want of receiving emails from my company, while maintaing my calendar and contacts via a PC based system Goldmine.
The problem arisies in that without understanding "Why", periodically the Blackberry Calendar Option of Wireless synchronization changes to YES without my doing so.  This leaves me with dupicates on the blackberry and the entire PC based calendar events on the Corporate Outlook calendar.
Is their a way to prevent this?
Your assistance will be greatly appreciated!

This is a limitation with a POP account. Is your Nokia set to automatically check the account for new messages? If so, I'm not sure why the same didn't occur between your Nokia's mail client and Outlook on your PC.
Although it is possible to access a POP account with more than one email client, a POP
account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only.
Two email clients cannot check the incoming mail server for a POP account at or near the same time. If a 2nd email client attempts to check the incoming mail server at or near the same time as another email client is doing the same, the 2nd email client will be temporarily locked out by the incoming mail server for the account.
This is not a problem with an IMAP account.

  • Unrelated emails with different Subjects and Recipients grouping into conversations

    Hi all,
This problem appears well documented, and has been discussed here: https://discussions.apple.com/create-account.jspa
It's only a matter of time until someone in our company misses an email or sends the wrong thread to a customer.
Does anyone know if Apple have verified the issue and are working on it? Does anyone have a solution? By solution I don't mean a way around it like unselecting View>Organise By Conversation, I mean a fix.
If Apple cannot fix this we may need to stop using Mac Mail completely. We are using an IMAP Google account so have plenty of options.
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hi all,
I believe I have found a workable way around this problem, that I haven't found as a solution anywhere else!
Select the email that has grouped various Subjects/Conversations etc into one thread, click View in the toolbar at the top, and select 'Hide related messages'. It removes all the incorrectly grouped emails for that conversation. I have checked to see if this has a knock on effect of hiding the emails elsewhere/their individual folders, and it doesn't. They are still present - hiding them from one conversation does not hide or delete them elsewhere.
Still irritating you have to do this each time Mac Mail groups a message, and this is still a bug which needs fixing.
Let me know if this works for you too.
    Cheers,
    Sam

I've been having deleting problems, too, and finally found a couple of fixes here on the message boards. I'll copy and paste them for you. It doesnt fix why it happens, but at least you can delete your emails.

    Hey try this.
Swipe to delete. When you are in either portrait or landscape view swipe from left to right over the message in the inbox listing. That should show a delete option without loading the email. Worked for me.

You can also do this go into your settings>mail, contacts, calendars then turn off the "load remote images" then try to delete the message.

Five days ago I received an anonymous email with the subject:

The content started: Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 From:(my email address) followed by a very, very, very long stream of gobbledygook. There is no record of it in my i-tunes purchases or my credit card statement but that might only be because I have not updated my credit card details. • Saving Outlook eMail to a hard drive folder with long subject lines

I'm using Outlook 2010 on a WIN7 machine. I drag and drop eMails to folders on my desktop quite often and in the past (earlier version
of Outlook) I would receive a warning that the file did not copy if the subject line was too long. When I drag and drop eMails with long subject lines now there is no visual warning or indication that the operation failed. I am aware of the file name/path
character count limitation. My issue is the lack of a warning when the operation fails requiring me to have to check the length of the subject line before the operation or double check if the file is present after the operation. Checking after the operation
is quite exacerbating when you are copying 15 - 20 files at a time. Is there a patch or something that can be done about this?

  • MimeMessage.reply() issue with MS Exchange Server 2007 Emails

I have an application that retrieves emails from an MS Exchange Server 2003 mailbox. The data from each message is read, validated and conditionally loaded to a table. If the message doesn't pass validation, a rejection email is sent back to the sender with an error message and a copy of the email. (We're using Java 1.5. However, I test with both 1.5 and 1.6.)
Also, if the message passes validation, positive notification is sent back to the sender.
Both processes use the method: javax.mail.Message.reply()It's coded as:
MimeMessage reply = (MimeMessage) message.reply(false); My organization is in the process of migrating to MS Exchange Server 2007. We've found that the reply() method no longer finds the sender method, thus unable to create a reply message. The error message we receive is:
    javax.mail.SendFailedException: No recipient addresses
         at javax.mail.Transport.send0(Transport.java:110)
         at javax.mail.Transport.send(Transport.java:80)

at org.ccci.gms.datacollector.DataCollector.main(DataCollector.java:101)After creating the MimeMessage object from the reply() method, I printed out the email header detail from both 2003 and 2007 messages. You'll note from below that the "To" or recipient address is missing from Server 2007.

When the original message is accessed using IMAP, the reply method uses the information in the
IMAP ENVELOPE to determine where to send the reply. It first looks for the Reply-To address
in the ENVELOPE, then the From address.
Interestingly, when not using IMAP, the getFrom method returns the Sender header if the From
header is empty. The IMAP-specific code doesn't do that, although perhaps it should.
It would be interesting to compare the ENVELOPE data from the protocol trace in the two cases.
The ENVELOPE data will follow this syntax:
    envelope     = "(" env-date SP env-subject SP env-from SP
              env-sender SP env-reply-to SP env-to SP env-cc SP
              env-bcc SP env-in-reply-to SP env-message-id ")"
So it's the first three address fields after the Subject that are relevant. If the From and Reply-To
fields are NIL, but the Sender field has a valid address, let me know. I should probably fix the
IMAP provider to fall back to the Sender field if the From field is missing.

  • Deleting emails with a specific subject from a single user mailbox

we are exchange 2007 on SP1. we do not have an edge server, only a hub server.
A user mailbox was flooded with 11000 "Undeliverable:" emails in the last 2 days, the source being "DSA". I am still finding out why this has happened. As for now, I have set up a rule to silently drop all emails with this specific subject.
now the user wanted our team to delete all of these 11000 emails from his mailbox.
we gave the appropriate permission to the users mailbox by running the command
Get-Mailbox -Identity “[email protected]” | Add-MailboxPermission -User [email protected] -AccessRights FullAccess -InheritanceType all
Then I ran the below command
    Get-Mailbox -Identity “[email protected]” | Export-Mailbox -SubjectKeywords "Undeliverable:" -IncludeFolders "\Inbox" -StartDate "09/22/2014" -EndDate "09/23/2014" -DeleteContent -Confirm:$false
The command ran for a while, showing it was deleting 19000 odd emails with the below summary

  • Sometimes Mail is slow emptying trash folder or sending emails with attachments

This happens occasionally- but enough to be an annoyance!
I am about to send an email using Mail to an address, and I wait very patiently while the Mail program makes a copy, communicates with server, then finally sends the email.  Sometimes, to send an email with a simple attachment, this can take as long as three to four minutes!
Another related problem is Emptying the Trash folder.
Sometimes it takes an inordinate amount of time to do this, and other times such "deletion" takes mere few seconds.
I wonder what it is I'm doing wrong.

    Hi
The context of this question is:
    * I've had an Apple iMac for just over 3 years;
    * and I've been using their 'Mail' application to send/receive emails;
    * but not infrequently, when I send an email with one or more attachments all of the email doesn't get to the recipient;
    * and after working with Apple and getting nowhere;
    * I'm now using Thunderbird instead of Mail.
I like Thunderbird, but I've noticed that if I send an email with an attachment (an example is an email I've just sent with a 2.6MB attachment), it takes a while to both (a) first send and then (b) copy the email to my 'send' folder.
Are there any 'settings' changes I can make to speed things up, or do I just need a bigger machine? (I've noticed that over the 3+ years I've had the iMac, it's got progressively slower and slower.)
