OS X slow, laggy after Safari 4.0.5 update
Short: My late 2007 MBP has been working flawless until safari 4.0.5 update.
After, OS X is laggy...
After the update everything seemed fine, but after i've been working for a while, OS X acts laggy.
Applications and such, opens fast, but doing any graphic intensive like, moving windows, open dashboard (not really graphic intensive but...), playing the game Braid, or any Open GL game for that matter is pure torture.
The funny thing is if i change my display resolution from 1440x900 to 1280x800, then back again, everything is back to snappy old OS X that i'm used to for a minute or two, then the laggyness is back again.
This all started after Safari 4.0.5, i've never experienced this before.
I've tried to run a few system maintenance tools like onyx without any success to my problem.
I reinstalled OS X 10.6.2 update - no luck
I Reinstalled my whole system from scratch. Worked fine until.... Safari 4.0.5
Anyone else having the same problem?
My MacMini's working fine, same goes for my buddys MBP unibody first model.
you didn't import your old prefs and bookmarks back?
When Safari launches, it caches your bookmarks and writes them into a new folder. And that lets Spotlight start indexing.
Maybe you have something connected to your system that is causing problems, interference, or router (see notes, Apple mentions a fix for Linksys, why? and are there other router-related issues?)
At least a clean install (I would have done so on a spare hard drive) rules out any 3rd party extensions, plug-ins, and such, yes? Any update to a browser tends to work best if the old cache and sometimes prefs are removed and create a new profile.
I still think a good clone that you can boot from beats a fresh install from scratch any day of the week.
Maybe zero or 7-way write erase the entire drive at some time (best done before using), though even that isn't a guarantee to find, let alone map out, weak sectors. And no, it isn't done automatically by itself or something.
With only one post (now two) it is always hard to know the level of troubleshooting expertise. Restoring from, and having backup clones, should be a standard practice.

Give me an uninstall programs feature, please! Create a restore point; and, rollback driver updates, and make this a modern OS. Or maybe 10.6.2 isn't ready for prime time. It is sluggish on my quad-core Mac unlike any prior version that ran on it (10.4.6 thru 10.5.8). Maybe it didn't get enough testing, or it was but works best on future update to the system.
I've seen users with trouble with Safari that: can't be duplicated, couldn't be resolved, both Mac and Windows versions. But my bet is something is left out, not mentioned.

ITunes not running after Safari and Quick Time update
HELP NEEDED!!After updating to the latest version of Safari and Quick Time, i got this error message the next time I started my computer:
"AppSyncNotifier.exe: The program can't start because CoreCoundation.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
I tried to open iTunes but I can't. I tried to uninstall so I can reinstall but it I got another error message that said I do not have the rights to uninstall, etc. I am the only user of this computer and I have admin rights. This PC used to run on vista but I recently upgraded to Windows 7(x64) and I encoutered the same problem - i could not uninstall/reinstall iTunes because "I do not have permission"
After upgrading to Windows 7 iTunes was running okay until the Safari and Quick Time update.
I need to sync my iPhone and iPod but without iTunes I can't!!!
PLEASE HELP!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, OH PLEASE!!!!b noir wrote:
What a strange collation of errors. Taken at face value, each of the three suggests a different problem. Working on an Occam's razor sort of principle, that one underlying problem is going to be more likely than a perfect storm of three different problems at once, I think we'd better try checking on troubles with administrative privileges first.
Let's try doing a "run as administrator" on an iTunes uninstall first.
Download and save a fresh copy of the itunes installer to your desktop.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Now right-click on the iTunes64Setup.exe file you downloaded and select "Run as administrator".
Since you've already got that version of iTunes installed, you should eventually get to a dialog asking you to repair or remove iTunes. Select Remove.
Does that go through without the "Windows Installer" message?
If so, reboot the PC and then try another "Run as administrator" of your iTunes64Setup.exe. Does Apple Application Support get installed for you properly this time?
Thanks again b noir. Unfortunately, this suggestion did not work. When I did what you said, there was no option to "remove". I see the iTunes thing on my control panel-programs window, but it's no longer in the program (x86) folder on the c:/drive. iTunes on my computer is like gum stuck to my shoe. same goes for bonjour. Please be patient some more. Do you have any more suggestions?? I'm planning to get me an iPad but if I can't get iTunes to run properly on my computer I'm having second thoughts about it now.

IPhone 4 slower/laggy after OS 5 update.
I've had this phone for a little over a month. I updated it to OS 5 the day it released. Didn't have many issues with it but I've started to notice that the phone is slower than it was before the update. Apps don't open as fast, unlocking my phone to Music takes up to 5 seconds to update the song title/time so it is current. In general the phone seems to be slower. Any remedies? Maybe a factory reset and reinstall?
I too have experienced similar issues - slow keyboard response, high CPU (> 90%) consumption, very poor battery life, Message/Settings would take 7 - 10 secs to open, some apps take too long to open, some crash etc., etc,.....
As suggested by several forum users, I tried several combinations of turning OFF several SHOW PIECE features ... finally narrowed it down to CALENDAR Notification ... turn it off in ...
Settings > Notification > In Notification Center (scroll down to) > Calendar > Notification Center [OFF].
Turning this off defeats the purpose ... 2 steps forward (with iOS 5) and 4 steps backwards (Calendar alerts/notification is very important). With Calendar Notification ON, the CPU usage is over 90% ... the moment it is turned OFF, it returns to less than 10%. After this finding, I turn ON Notification during my work time and OFF while not.
Well, this is my experience ... it may or may not fix for others though!
I use the app System Status to monitor the vital statistics of iPhone/iPad. Once you install System Status, you might also want to have a look at the the System Log. Open System Status > Details > System Log. Its got a wealth of information for technically inclined users. I found a line that said something like ... "Caldav notification trying to open <something> .... Tried 20 times unsuccessfully ... error ... etc,. The same thing will repeat every minute or less ... so I decided to turn Calendar Notification off.

After I update Safari to 4.0.5 and restarted, Firewall asking me whether to allow "rsmac_3649" to accept incoming network connections, what is this?
Second, now in my Macintosh HD drive, I notice some thing new, "cert8.db", "key3.db", and "secmod.db"...did a little googling and I notice all of them are related to mozilla, but I didn't install any mozilla thing at all.
Lastly, there's a "Akamai" folder in my Applications now, I never install this at all...
Anyone know about these things?
Thanks!HI,
Mozilla writes the Firefox browser. If you have Firefox installed, that's why you have the files.
Akamai is associated with Adobe, see here. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402065.html
Repair disk permissions and I think the "rsmac_3649" will disappear.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Problems after Safari 7.0.4 update
After downloading the newest version of Safari, it freezes and won't load internet pages. Each time I restart the computer, I'm able to get onto the internet for a few minutes before it stops working again. I've restarted at least 10 times today & am on another computer right now just to find out how to resolve this issue.
At least once, Safari would not "quit" nor would it allow me to "force quit" without shutting down my iMac. What to do? This is frustrating.I'm also having similar issues. These are the results I got. Any ideas?

Slowing down after 10.6.8 OSX update
My MacBook pro has slowed to a crawl since installing 10.6.8 OSX update. Safari really slow, but also switching between applications is a problem. I have not made any changes in my system/hardware around that time. Anyone having this issue?
Do you happen to have Parallels installed? There is a known conflict with 10.6.8 and Parallels. Note that you do not even need to be running Parallels to experience this problem and there is nothing in Activity Monitor that would lead you to believe this might be the problem. Parallels issued an update to resolve the problem:

IPod touch 4G experiencing slow performance after iOS 5.0.1 update.
When iOS 5 was on this iPod, the performance was fairly slower than I expected. Now, since I have updated to 5.0.1 the performance has gotten noticeably worse. Apps crash a lot, especially Safari, opening things like apps, typing in the keyboard and opening the notification centre can be quite unresponsive and sluggish sometimes, and I have also noticed in the Diagnostics an Usage list I get lots of low memory errors, and I think one of these pops up every time an app crashes. I really hope they fix this in the next iOS Update as apps randomly crashing gets quite annoying.
Did you already try to reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again? If this does not help, set it up as new device without using the latest backup.

G5 only shows digital snow after Safari 3.2.1 update!
I have a G5 2Ghz DP running OS 10.5.5 with 4GB mem, ATI Radeon X800 graphics card and AJA Kona, and Sonnet Tempo SATA for an internal 1TB RAID additional to the OS drive's 320 GB. After running the last update that offered Safari 3.2.1 my computer now only displays "digital snow" on both the DVI desktop display and even on the AJA. All was fine until it rebooted for the install. Now I cannot see anything to do anything. I have even tried logging in through screen share on back to my mac but only get the same display but I can at least see where the mouse pointer is by how the snow moves on the other computer. BTW, the computer's fans are now "moaning" by running slowly then slightly faster in a 3 second cycle.
How can I force the computer to recognize the video card? would yanking that card and restarting without a card then replacing it bring it back to where I can see the displays? Help!Hello,
I fixed it!!!!!!! Yes! Ok. Well I don't have an earthly clue to what the folder did, or where it went or came from, but the SuperDrive (TSST Corp HD-DVD-RW+-RDL/CD-RW) was not the Apple Shipped Drive. So I put the original Apple Shipped Drive (Pioneer DVD/CD-RW) ComboDrive back in there and it actually came up! So then I got my Mac OS X 10.4.6 Tiger (Retail) Install/Restore DVD and put it in there so fast that I put it in upsidedown and was scared that it wouldn't work when I saw that it never mounted on the desktop. So then I ejected the ComboDrive, and saw that it was upsidedown, and said F**k I'm an idiot!, and put it back in there (once more) and it mounted and so I did a clean install with the ComboDrive, then when it finished, I put the SuperDrive back in and it was actually recognized! Then I did another Clean install so that it saw that it was the main optical drive, and it too, worked!!!
Well, Thanks for your help guys. I appreciated it. Alot!!!
Cheers!

EMac won't recognize SuperDrive after Safari 3.2.1 Update
Hello, I have the original 700MHz eMac and I had updated Safari to 3.2.1. When I had restarted, Safari quit itself after 2-5 mins. Then my SuperDrive (HD-DVD-RW+-RDL/CD-RW) had all of the sudden, disappeared. I tried restarting and it still didn't show up in System Profiler, Menu Bar's Eject menu, Disk Utility, and when I put a disk in there (Manually), nothing, tried downgrading Safari, nothing, I tried Zapping the PRAM, still nothing, tried safe boot, nope, tried with the disk still in there, booting with C key, Option Key, mouse button, nope...then hmmm...There was this folder that appeared out of nowhere, named "501.249789158" with 8 items in it. Don't know where it came from, where it goes, what its for, or what it does. It just got there. Whats worse is that the drive works in other machines (PC) and this is my only Macintosh. So Windows Machines don't read Mac OS X Tiger Boot Disks (10.4.6). I'm extremely frustrated Any help anyone?

Slow reboot after 10.2.1.2977 update to Z10
Hello,
The first reboot after updating to software release 10.2.1.2977 (OS 10.2.1.3247) is taking a very long time (just over 22 hours now). The boot screen showed 97% before I went to sleep last night, and has been at 98% since I woke up ~6hrs ago..
I'm a fairly new BB owner, and this is the first OS update I've done besides the one after I first got my z10 - but I'm assuming this isn't normal. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any idea what's going on, or have suggestions on what I should do?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
PatNo, it most definitely does NOT take anyway near that long to reboot; you should expect to wait about one minute usually (except immediately after an OS reload in which case a few minutes is normal).
If it's not completely rebooted yet, remove the battery for a few seconds then put it back in. If it's completely rebooted, you can either leave it for now or you can reset your phone. To do this, press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds until BlackBerry appears on the screen. Don't release the power button until you see BlackBerry, ignoring anything that appears before that.
I hope that helps you.
- If my response has helped you, please click "Options" beside my post and mark it as solved. Clicking the "thumbs up" icon near the bottom of my response would also be appreciated. -
After safari, java, flash player updates videos are not displaying on some sites
youtube videos are fine, but other linked videos on blogs show only a white space, Anyone lese experiencing this?
I was finally able to solve this by taking the dot out of the front of my username. My username was .exekutiv and I just reinstalled windows without the dot and it works fine now. A pretty lame bug. I hope others with this same problem are able to find this thread because I had to search for days to find a thread that mentioned anything about a period in the front of the username causing problems. Btw don't bother with tech support the only thing she was able to tell me to do was uninstall and reinstall flash and because the flash player worked on youtube then "it was not a flash player problem." She had no idea what global settings were or anything and neither did her supervisor.

Compleat system slow down after current updates
Has anyone learned why we all seem to have a compleat system slow down after the current set of updates? Everything works, but is VERY slow to respond. Even iTunes 7.1.1 plays video choppy now. Audio track plays fine however. Odd.
-Apple //GSFirst of all, try repairing your permissions with Applications> Utilities> Disk Utility. Select the hard drive you're running off of and then click the Repair Permissions button.
If that doesn't work I'd do an archive and install:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Then run the combo update(s) instead of the consecutive ones. That seems to be working for a lot of people, but it will probably take a while. -
Mac Pro slow down after Yosemite 10.10.2 upgrade
Upgraded in January.
I get the spinning color wheel all the time. Programs crash.
I've run adware medic a few times, and etrecheck.
First run through, adware found Genio.
Since then, it hasn't. Etrecheck still says it sees it, but Adware doesn't. Still no good.
I reset SMS and PRAM.
This machine is slow. Previous to the upgrade, this machine was very fast!

Mac slow down after Mavericks installation
I have realized that I am not the first with the same problem after the installation of Mavericks.
I run etrecheck as have been already advised many users.
Below are the results.
Can you please help me further? My mac is really slow. Applications, like email quit unexpectadly.
Thank you in advance.

1.01 GB Wired RAM
6.01 GB Page-ins
517 MB Page-outsYou have been up for ~17 days, and you have 1.72GB of pageouts. That averages out to one page every 3 seconds, and we will assume you re not working 24/7, so when you are using your Mac you are spending a lot of time paging to disk. Disks are slow.
As Kappy says, you are either concurrently running too may RAM hungry apps, or you have some apps that really want lots of RAM and you are running them a lot day after day. Either "Stop That!", or get more RAM.
You could also consider a Solid State Disk, but that is not as good as having real RAM and would be more expensive than RAM unless you Mac is max'ed out on RAM. Of course you could do both. More RAM and an SSD
If you want to see the paging for yourself, start an Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal session, and run the command:
sar -g 60 100
which will report the pageout stats every minute for 100 minutes (adjust the numbers to suit your tastes).
Now use your Mac as your normally would, including the times when it is running slow. After you have experienced the slowness, go back and look at the 'sar' output. If you have mostly zeros with maybe a trivial blip every once in awhile, that is noise and not a paging issue. If you have some high numbers, then you are paging heavily at that time. If you have sustained paging, even if small value, it is going to affect your performance. High numbers will affect your performance even more.
