OS X Update stalled, how do I install it after manual restart?

I recently downloaded a huge update (560MB), and when I restarted the computer (automatically installing the update) it froze at about 10%. I left it for several hours before deciding to manually shut down, holding the power key. After restarting a second time, it booted straight up and didn't show that it was installing the update. Since I know I have downloaded this huge update and that it should still be on my computer - what do I need to do to install it?

you can not restart an update downloaded via Software update. if you are not sure if it's installed you can check it in system preferences->software update.
also, you can manually download that update from apple website and reinstall it that way.

If my carrier (Congstar) doesn't provide updates, where can I get updates and how can I install them?

My Alcatel One Touch has Firefox version 1.1.0.0-prerelease. When I try to Update my mobile phone it says, there are no updates, I have the latest version of the OS. But as I can see here the latest version is 1.3.
How and where can get the latest version of Firefox OS? How can I install it?

There are no official v1.3 updates yet from Alcatel for the OneTouch Fire device.
Please keep in mind that the OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) are fully responsible for testing and releasing the updates, and that Mozilla still encourages them to provide users with the latest updates.

How do I install X11 after many OS X tiger updates?

My iMac G5 came with OS X 10.4.0 installed. Since then, I have updated to the present 10.4.7 via web updates. Now, I need to run MatLab 14 and need to have X11 installed. Of course, I don't have an OS X install CD for 10.4.7 and my original CD has a lot of ancient application versions on it. How can I install X11 w/ minimal hassle? I cannot find a stand alone version of X11 on the Apple web site for tiger, let alone my new version.

You do not want to choose the icon for the Xcode tools if you want X11. The Xcode Tools icon leads to the installation of Xcode tools, not a custom install of X11.
To install X11 at any time, see "Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4"

The Security issue is over (for now, but I'm confident it will be back). You can safely update to either Java SE 7u15 at Oracle or Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 13 from Apple using Software Update or both. You can switch the browser plugin back and forth between the two by following these instructions that baltwo mentioned before.
All the experts are telling us that Java for the browser is dead, so if you are involved in the development of such Applets, you need to find a different solution or a new job.

Officejet 6700: how do I install Help after I have installed everything else.

1. HP Help for my unit doesnt seem to be installed on my laptop running Mac Mavericks. I had to run the CD to learn how to turn on/off 2-sided printing (duplexing). Where do I look to find whether or not Help was installed when I installed everything else?
2. If I find that it's not installed, how do I install it without going through all the other installation procedures? That is, if it's needed, can it be done separately, without disturbing the otherwise complete installation I've done?

HT6114 Help! OS X 10.9.2 not installing even after repeated restarts.

Hello, I am trying to update from OS X 10.9 to 10.9.2 but every time I click on the update option it asks for restart even after the restart and after every restart it gets added in the completed downloads list . Please help !

I found a fix, or rather, a work around for this 513 permissions error issue. It doesn't require you to reinstall the OS, or boot from the recovery partition. Note that booting from my installation drive and repairing permissions didn't work for me. Neither did running combo update, or anything else, such as repairing ACL permissions, etc.
Simply Carbon Copy Clone your primary, non updateable drive to another drive. I used the last free version of Carbon Copy Cloner.
Then, boot from that other drive. Notice that you can now download and update to 10.9.2. Do all the updates, repair permissions if you'd like, then Carbone Copy Clone the now updated 10.9.2 drive to the formerly non updateable drive. Boot from the new primary drive.
Done Dizzle.

This is how it all started. When the new update for iTunes 11 came out, I tried to update it. After I had updated it I found nothing had changed. So i tried rebooting my computer and everything and found that still nothing had changed. So I tried uninstalling it. After that I tried to re-install it, but it came up with the
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package ..." message. So I looked around the internet and found a website that told me to uninstall all Apple products. So i did that. When i tried to uninstall Apple Software Update, it came up with the 'problem with windows' message again. So I used Revo to uninstall it. So I rebooted and tried to install it again. It installed Bonjour and all of the other programs but stopped halfway and gave me the 'proplem with windows' message again. I've looked around and most of the solutions have been to try and repair Apple Software Update, but the problem is, I've already deleted it. So can someone PLEASSEEEE help me fix this problem! (Sorry for droning on)

How to re-install apps after Snow Leopard install

I went from OS 10.4.11 to Snow leopard 10.6 OS, I have not Updated versions yet.
I used SupperDupper to back all of my hard drive of 10.4.11, prior to install of 10.6 OS.
I sort of thought that my applications and all of my settings would still be in place, that Snow Leopard would carry them over to it's new OS.
What a disappointment. No personal computer stuff from my old OS is present.
No System setup information is present, no Air port settings, No e-mail settings, no network settings, what a pain in the ........ well you know.
I got a basic OS right now and nothing else.
I do have the whole hard drive back up on an external though. how can I have MAC take the settings and third party applications and place them on the new OS without making problems for the new OS. Don't want to replace new MAC app files, with old ones.
if I use drag and drop then I have to spend a day and a half rebuilding network connections and then registering everything again.
How do I protect the integrity of 10.6 but still get my applications working without re-loading and without re-regeistering everything again application, by application.

Alright, Superduper app on the backup drive allows me to launch SD, however, when I select the copy from drive (my backup) to copy to the copy to drive, the laptop HD, I find that the Laptop HD is grayed out.
I dragged and dropped SD to the Laptop and then launched and received the same result, the Laptop HD is still grayed out.
My SD says at the bottom of the window, Unregistered, but it was registered on my laptop before the OS install.
So i am I right that I have to get my network working, then register SuperDuper again, then see if I can select the Laptop HD as the destination drive for moving the apps over to?

This is why....
I just got this computer in December. I have been using CS5 with no problems at all. Yesterday, I tried to save a very simple file to the desktop and illustrator crashed. It is happening any time I try to save the file to anyplace other than the one file that comes up when I use the "save as" or "save" command. Its happening no matter how small the file is.
I have already removed almost everything from my desktop as one person suggested. I have uninstalled illustrator, run the cleaner program, restarted and re installed illustrator. I have updated illustrator to the current version.
I am using osx yosemite 10.10.2
I have 16 g of memory.
I have 258G free out of 500G total of storage.
I am at a loss.
Do you know why it would be crashing?

How do you install OS after Hard Drive upgrade? Thinkpad T41p

I have a Thinkpad T41p with Window XP Pro on it. I have a new larger hard drive for it, but I do not know how I will be able to install the OS on the new drive. The laptop came with the OS already installed on it. That will to be the case, of course, for the new hard drive. So what do I do? If you could point me to a step-by-step procedure, I would be most grateful. I have installed numerous OSs, so I am familiar with how to do that from installation CDs.

Just went through this process on my wife's T41. I did the following:
downloaded and installed the eval copy of Active@ Disk Image and Active@ Boot Disk (created a boot CD).
rebooted to the BIOS setup and in the security setting for the IBM Predesktop Area I selected Disable saved the changes and booted
rebooted to windows and usedActive@ Disk Image to create a raw image of the entire disk to a USB hard drive
Shut down and removed the original hard drive and installed the new empty hard drive
rebooted using the CD created by Active@ Book Disk and started the Active@ Disk Image utility
selected the Image to Disk option. This took the raw image and installed it on the new hard drive (this included the hidden partition as well as the windows partition
rebooted without the boot cd and logged in to windows
rebooted into the BIOS and reset the security setting for the IBM Predesktop Area to Normal, saved changes and booted
result is the same size partitions as before on the new 80 GB hard drive so I then ran Partition Magic to resize the Windows partition to utilize all of the remaining space on the disk (left the hidden partion in place - it is still bootable)
rebooted and I now have a 74.5 GB drive for windows with all of the installed software intact
I did plan on using the recovery option to reinstall the image to the factory settings since I had a few issues with windows on the original drive. Ran Rescue and Recovery and it could not find the restore images After much searching it appears that I will have to go out and buy the CDs (unless someone has a free download option)

Agreed, I have all my photos on my iMac but only about half of them transferred to iPad on ios8 update, everything else OK just a photo problem. Deleted them all using settings on iMac and took them back in, but same problem occured.

Hi, I've just reinstalled Win 7 and Lightroom after a crash. Happily I've the photos and LR backups on an external HD. I've copied the photos back to my pictures but am unclear how to reinstate the latest catalogue from the LR backup file. Could someone take me through the process, please? If you know which one is your latest backup double-click this .lrcat file and LR will open with this catalog.
If you have copied your images back into the exact location as they were before and under the same file name (i.e unchanged) and into the same folders as before (same name, same folder structure) LR will find your images. If not you will get question marks in the frame of individual images (in grid View) and question marks besides folder names in the folders panel.
This means that LR does not find your images because there is a discrepancy between the state on your hard drive and the LR catalog. You then have to point LR to the right location of the images and/or folders.
If you see question marks only with some (but not all) images in a folder, click the question mark and navigate to the correct location of the image. If the file name has been changed LR will ask you to verify that this is the correct image.
If you see question marks besides folders in the folders panel, right-click the top-most folder in the hierarchy that shows the question mark and <Update folder ocation> by navigating to the correct location.
LR will then find also all the sub-folders under this top-folder, provided that the folder names and folder structure is the same as it was before.

You will need to do a clean install, first back-up all of your data or clone your hard drive with carbon copy cloner. Then format (erase) your hard drive, then install Mac OS X 10.6,
