OS X updates or downgrades?

Is it possible to downgrade or even upgrade by incremental upgrades so for example, 10.8.4 > 10.8.5 ?
I am on 10.9.2 and whilst its great some of my software crashes more and apparently isnt fully supported yet for mavericks
I just wanted to know if you can choose to pick your upgrade (up or down) instead of say being on 10.8.2 and it jumping to 10.9 which ive found in the past with Apple updates??

Software Update will always give you the option of updating to the latest point upgrade (eg 10.8.5) if you have 10.8 installed. This upgrade is displayed under the 10.9 upgrade box, so you can select one or the other. Or, you can download and install the update manually from the support site.
You can't downgrade that way, though. You should make a complete bootable backup of your system before any major software upgrade (10.8 to 10.9) and then revert to that if the upgrade doesn't work out for you.

  • Flash will not stop crashing and is continuously getting worse, no matter how often I update or downgrade.

For a few months now, Flash has been continuously degrading and falling apart, getting worse and worse and worse even without any new updates, changes in settings, driver updates or anything. It's actually falling apart very organically, which completely baffles me, and I've yet to find a way to make it work.
Flash failing is universal, not just in Firefox. It does this whether I update to the latest, or downgrade to 10.3 or 11.2. I've turned off protected mode. Hardware mode has been turned off for months, and turning it back on obviously didn't help at all. I'm running the latest drivers available for my laptop, but downgrading them doesn't help either. Any program that uses flash doesn't work; this means right now I can't listen to music or play videos even offline. I can't even use Skype. Yet small things work, like gmail has never crashed me, and I can browse YouTube as long as I don't start up a video.
Basically my computer has been rendered near useless and I -need- help. :(

I tried everything - when downgrading, the flash plugin wont start anymore - it just says "CLick here to activate plugin" and no reaction. The new version of flash always initially work and start crashing a few days later.
I scanned my PC for viruses. What next?

  • Want to un-update (or downgrade) Quicktime 7.3

    hey all,
i have OSX 10.3.9 and made the mistake of upgrading quicktime...because it won't open. it just says it's not responding. Is there anyway to get an earlier version of QT?

QuickTime is the OS's graphic side and very different from 6 to 7 and the 3.9 and 7 combo changes the way the OS uses the hardware all around sending as much as it can to the GPU and will render a minimally supported machine about useless with better performance on an unsupported machine w/no CoreImage support and less than 32MB VRAM as the PPC handled graphics just fine.
Why archive and install for a single component/app? The receipts are what QT updater and the installer looks for to see what's on your system and adds and deletes as appropriate.

Pacifist is for those who don't know what they are doing as it provides a GUI to make it easy. IMO an excellent program though Apple started providing install discs that allows you to install individual components in one of the releases of 10.3. making it somewhat obsolete. Apple themselves had two "downgrades" for QuickTime as many (like this poster) had experienced serious performance and functionality hits due to compatibility issues. Unfortunately they do not work on this version
If you have a healthy system to start with why in the world would you bother re-installing anything?
The best bet if you're going to archive and install is to stop at OS 10.3.7 and QT 6 and disable Software Update. And if, like myself, you've invested in a newer machine that can't run anything less than OS 10.3 you're screwed.

    Hey djwillis88,
    Thanks for the reply buddy.
Now if you already downloaded the drivers and it didn't work, the next step would be a system restore.
Here is a document to help you out with that. Select the option " Restore windows to a previous point" at the top.

Make sure and back up any files you have recently saved or downloaded (pictures, music or saved documents) you've installed.

  • Re-update after downgrade

How to update the app after downgrade. By mistake I uninstalled the latest update, and I do not get the update via the update center. I've tried deleting data and cache from both what's new and the update center. I would much prefer not to have the icon in the swipe up circle.

There's nothing you can do, you will get the notification, eventually

    Hey,
Since I upgraded my system two days ago with the kernel 3.1.4, nvidia 289.05.09.3 and Xorg 1.11.2-1 my X kept crashing passed login from SLIM. I Downgraded all those packages and dependencies to the last working version for me, but I keep getting the error.

  • Help with live updating and downgrade

Since upgrading to the latest firmware I lost the ability for my smart playlists to be updated on the fly as before. I want to restore my original firmware if possible since I don't see anything new or better with the newest firmware. Is it possible, and if so how. I see the restore function for the firmware updater but I wasn't sure if that restores the firmware too or just removes files only. TIA

you will need to restore and then update with the updater for the version you want.
Rememeber that doing a restore will erase everything on your iPod

  • Update or downgrade?

My LG Spectrum was upgraded, or at least that is what I thought. I had the idea that I would be getting Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) especially since the hard buttons (Menu, Home and Back) are set up for ICS. I was told to go to verizonwireless.com/spectrumsupport for an overview of the upgrade. It started out stating that I now had Gingerbread. Wow! My old Droid X has had Gingerbread for quite a while already. I have nothing against Gingerbread, I thought it worked great with my Droid X, but I thought that the LG Spectrum already came with Gingerbread and would be upgraded to ICS. What gives, Verizon?

here's the details of your update:
    http://www.theverge.com/2012/5/14/3019067/lg-spectrum-ota-update-vs029v6-android-236
often times a device will get a minor update to the current version of Android that they are running. the tbolt also just got an update that addressed a few bugs, but didn't include ICS. i hate to say it, but i wouldn't hold your breath for ICS......i know i'm not (i have a tbolt).

  • Latest update causes problems on iPhone 3

The most recent update for iPhone causes serious problems on my iPhone 3. The screen size is no longer accurate; top or bottom text dissapears. Some apps are no longer useable. The speed of the iPhone dropped down to ridiculous slowness. Has anyone else experienced similar issues, and more importantly, has anyone found a solution? We just got a new Macbook Pro, the iPhone is not connecting, so we cannot remove the latest update. Kind of catch 22...

The screen size is no longer accurate; top or bottom text dissapears.
Did you happens to have Zoom: ON
    in Settings > General > Accessibility >
         Zoom: ON?
         Large Text: ON?
    If so, switch it OFF.
so we cannot remove the latest update
    No, downgrading is never supported

There is a bug in this new version of itunes for mac os x
I am using OS X version 10.8.2 with all the latest updates.

I downgrade to itunes 10.6.3 and the error still appears.
I have to download this utility http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/download-ie3-mac.php
    And I deleted this file:
    /private/var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/iTunes/iTunesCDB
    That fix the problem.
Now my iphone is working without issues on latest version of itunes 10.7

  • How to uninstal apple's software updates???

    hello all,
I got my cube with 10.4.11 running smoothly but I decided to check the updates and I chose only three of them of my interest.
I installed safari 4, java 8, and 'every user need this ' utility which is supposed to give your computer better quality cd etc...
then I restarted and something happened!
first I don't see any difference nor better sign with safari 4... I want the 3 back
then the power card (I suppose cos there is the power plug on it) suddenly blinking like mad so the green light on the end is working like it was the hard drive and a big noise too.
(while writting this I'm using techtool to optimize the hd)
so apart java which I don't know if it helps or not... the updates caused some damages on the computer. Maybe it's not good for this genious 450 mhz???
so I'd like to know how to go back??? and delete those updates
    cheers

  • How to "manually" update Xperia S LT26i 2.3.7 build number 6.0.A.3.67, 73, .75 & .76

    Hi,
I would like to be able to update my phone's software from Android version 2.3.7 to the newest Jellybean update. However, when I go to the update centre on both my phone and laptop software it tells me that my phone already has the latest available application updates and system updates. I've read that Jellybean was released for this phone model (Xperia S, LT26i, 6.0.A.3.62) in 2013, so I'm curious as to why it won't find an update for my phone? I would really appreciate any help in this issue. Network is Vodafone Ireland, if relevant.

  • Undo a firmware update?

I have a Treo 700wx with Sprint. After backing up my contacts with a Sprite Backup trial, I updated my firmware to 1.15. Then I had to reset my phone. Afterwards I found out that one of the limitation of the trial is that it won't restore after a software update.
How can I undo the update, or downgrade to 1.14?
    Post relates to: Palm m500

I believe that this is not possible.
What you can do is to reinstall the whole device with 1.14.
