OS X v10.7, iCal and iCloud - sync problems

BLUF: After installing OS X v.10.7, iCal will not accept my iCloud password and thus will not sync/update my calander events on the laptop to my other devices or to the cloud.  Sync-ing is fine between other devices and the cloud, so the Cloud isn't the problem.
Details: I recently allowed Lion to install it's most current update.  At the conclusion of the install, it rebooted and gave me the option to install a new version of Lion or to recover from TimeCapsule/TimeMachine.  I assume the update failed for some reason, and it was unable to reboot as planned, but it did not give me any indication of the problem nor did it provide any error messages.  I allowed it to install a new version of Lion.  Unfortunately, not a good start to an OS update.
The reinstall seemed to be ok except that it reset/changed some of my settings for mail accounts and now iCal will not log into iCloud.  I have entered the correct iCloud password and it keeps coming  back with the same dialog box saying the password is wrong and to re-enter.  I have verified both the account name and password by logging into iCloud directly which works fine.  New items place on the calendar are never synced to the cloud or to other devices, however, sincing from other devices to the cloud and back is not a problem.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.  Thanks.

Problem has been solved - for those who possibly have the same problem, I will note what I did.  The trouble-shooting guide mentioned disabling/re-enabling iCloud calendars in iCal through the System Preferences.  I noticed when I attempted to do this that iCloud wasn't there anymore.  Apparently the reinstall of Lion (after the failed upgrade from 10.7.2 to 10.7.4) required me to re-reinstall (install?) the 10.7.4 upgrade.  Once this was done, the iCal connected properly to iCloud and is syncing.
I have also now started the download on MountainLion - hopefully this is an enhancement instead of a source of new problems.

  • IPad, iCal and iTunes sync problem

Early last year, I posted (https://discussions.apple.com/message/18503738#18503738) that syncing between my iPad 3 and my Snow Leopard iMac behaved oddly.  AppleCare Support dweebs had failed to resolve the issue and no one on here managed to come up with any suggested fix.
However, for no apparent reason, the problem stopped and I stopped monitoring this august and highly esteemed forum and all went well ...
    ... until recently.
I sync via a USB cable and I do not use iCloud (as I'm on Snow Leopard) save for Find My iPad, all other iCloud options are switched off.  All other app syncing appears to work correctly, it is only iCal and Calendars that don't.
Just why things have started to go wrong now, probably in the last three or four weeks, I do not know but now the following syncing errors occur ...
    1) On the iPad: new appointments or changes to appointments made on the iPad are not synced to the iMac;
    2) On the iMac, changes to appointments already on the iMac are shown on the iPad as both the new and old timings/details, not as replacements;
    3) On the iMac, new appointments are made in the default (or last) calendar used.  These are then edited as required, with the details put in and, if necessary, calendars changed.  On the iPad, however, these will show as both "New event" in the default calendar and as the edited correct appointment, not just as the finalised entry;
    4) Appointments deleted from the iMac are not deleted from the iPad.
In other words, changes on the iPad are not synced across to the iMac and changes on the iMac are synced twice, once as the unedited appointment and once as the edited appointment - if an appointment is deleted it remains on the iPad.
When the original problem arose (similar but not identical) the Apple dweebs suggested deleting my iCloud account (not synced, used only for Find My iPad) but doing that this time does not remove the bug.
I'm running a 27" quad-core i7 iMac under MacOSX.6.8 (Build 10K549), iCal v4.0.4 (1395.7) and I sync via USB  and iTunes v11.0.2 (26).  The iPad is a 64GB 4G/wifi iPad 3, currently running under under iOS6.1.3.  To the best of my knowledge, all available updates have been applied to both devices.
I have deleted all calendars off the iPad by deselecting Calendars in iTunes' iPad tab, turned it off.  Swicthed off the iMac, Safe Booted and run OnyX full suite, I have then Single User booted, run fsck -fy three times then run applejack AUTO restart, then rebooted the iMac, rebooted the iPad, sync'd without Calendars then resynced with the Calendars selected again.
I had hoped that this would remove any cache files, temporary files, stuck RAM or whatever else could conceivably be causing this bizarre behaviour - to no bl**dy avail!  It is behaving exactly and frustratingly as before!
What on earth is going on?  if I can't use my iPad as my main calendar and add new appointments when out and about and have them synced properly and reliably to my iMac then the whole thing is a waste of time andI shall have to revert to a paper diary again!
HELP!!!!! Please, before I go mad with frustration!

I'm not sure whether getting no replies to this (or the earlier) query is something of which to be proud - or terrified!
Am I the only person in the world with this bizarre insoluble problem?  if so, why me?  Am I a Chosen One or, more likely, someone to be punished for a lifetime of misdeeds!
But there is progress.  I have no idea what happened at a technical level or why, but the matter has now resolved itself and things are syncing normally.  Until the next time!
Perhaps there is a clue somewhere in the following ...
I run my iMac 24/7 and thus I rarely close iCal on the iMac and when i do it is usually by accident.  The same applies to Calendars on the iPad, although I do reboot from time to time.
Anyway, I installed some software on the iMac which required a reboot and, as susual, iCal opened via Preferences > Accounts > Startup items - only this time I was presented with a perfectly blank calendar.  A message appeared, from within iCal (oh, how I wish i had noticed what it actually said) saying something along the lines of "importing calendars".  This took a little while and it wasn't instant - maybe it does this every time it reatrts but too fast for me to notice.
After this "import", if indeed that's what it was, the syncing was corrected!
Coincidence?  Cause and effect?  Magic?  Too many magic mushrooms for breakfast?
If that is what resolved the issue, then how can I cause an import deliberately for when the syncing goes astray again and just what does an "import" do that a normal launch doesn't and which might have resolved the glitch?
I have had this "import" message before, but very very rarely, so it may well have resolved the syncing issue last time and I just didn't make the possible connection.
Does that help anyone come to my rexcue with an explanation and, possibly, a strategy for preventing or deliberatly correcting syncing issues in the future?

  • My iPhone calendar and iCloud sync only one way

My iPhone 4 (iOS 5) calendar and iCloud sync only one way -- from iCloud to the phone. Any ideas why I can't sync from my iPhone calendar to iCloud?

When you add an event on Iphone, 3rd fields down from bottom, select calender > iCloud. Voila!!
I am not sure everybody understand really the intention with iCloud. It is one single calender residing on a Apple server somewhere. Selecting iCloud from any device will show this calender. Then how to sync this with other calenders is to me a mystery, or not possible, especially on Lion iCal. Please anyone.

  • Calendar for Oulook 2011 for the Mac, Ical and iCloud?

Has anyone found a way to make the calender for Oulook 2011 for the Mac, Ical and Icloud work together?
    Thnx

The problem is Microsofts, Dav services are common, even Microsoft support them on Outlook for Windows, but not Outlook for Mac.

While looking to upgrade to a newer MBP, found out latest version of iTunes does not support wired syncing of iCal and contacts. Syncing of these must be done through iCloud. This is a deal breaker for me for several reasons. Are there any workarounds or do I have to go back to a PC with my tail tucked between my legs?

When you say wired syncing, are you meaning between an iphone and your mac?

  • ICal and iCloud not syncing

Since migrating over to iCloud, my iCal entries aren't syncing with my iPhone. I'm getting a message saying - The calendar https://cal.me.com:8443/principals/users/1.122543010/ was not found on the server. Make sure the URL is correct.
How do I sort this out?
    many thanks
    Darryn

Your signature says you have 10.6.4 - this is not compatible with iCloud. However it is possible to set Mail up manually for iCloud email, and there is an unsupported hack which may enable to sync iCal with iCloud.

  • Calendar Events between iCal and iCloud keep shifting by 1 hour

I have iCal and my calendar on iCloud synced up...however recently i have been noticing that my appointments on one or the other of the calendars are all off by an hour. As best I can figure (after poking around in icloud time zone settings) is that iCloud was not on daylight saving time for the Central time zone...I have changed the setting, but all my appointments are still off by an hour in iCloud...should they have adjusted automatically when i changed the time zone? Am I missing some better time zone calendaring functionality? It seems like this shouldnt be this difficult or persistent of a problem.
Related, there doesnt appear to be a "daylight" option for the timezones in iCloud, just a Standard and one missing Standard, e.g. Chicaog Time vs Chicago Standard Time. My assumption is that WITHOUT Standard is the equivalent of Daylight...can anyone confirm that?
I am getting really tired of constantly revising my appointments (if i change them to be correct (on icloud, then they are wrong on my Mac when i get home at the end of the day)...is there a way to get the time zones and times to line up with the time programmed on my Mac? Right now i have no faith that the times on my calendar events are at all accurate and have to keep the appt details in the notes (e.g. starts at 2pm) just so i can keep track in spite of the times, but that is hardly efficient or logical with a calendar tool.

A screen dump showing iCloud in Safari and iCal on my Mac, with both iCloud and iCal set to Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEDT) but the event out by an hour on iCloud (and hence iPhone I guess).

  • ICal and iCloud

Okay, this whole iCloud thing is a bit above my head right now.  I seem to be making it work, but am a bit confused, and want to make sure I am doing things correctly.  Where there is an actual question, I will place in the quote box... but, there may be implied questions elsewhere, or if you find I have made a bad assumption, please make me aware!
First of all, I have an iPhone 4 (IOS 5) and a MacBook.  My husband has an iPhone 4 (IOS 4-he resists change and has not updated his IOS).  I neglected to tell you what system my MacBook is on because I want to show you the order in which I did everything.
So, for sake of argument, let's say up through October, I entered events into my iPhone 4 (IOS 4) and/or on my MacBook (Snow Leopard), and then synced through iTunes (hard wire connection to MacBook), sharing calendars between my husband's iPhone and I by syncing back and forth.
Then, I alone (my husband has not updated his iPhone) updated to IOS 5 on my iPhone.  It seemed to automatically export my calendars (All on my Mac) as they were to iCloud calendars.  So, I abandoned adding events to the "All on My Mac" calendars and only entered into my iCloud calendars.  However, it wasn't until recently I noticed I had to create a CALDAV link to iCloud to see those new/edited events on my Mac under Snow Leopard.  My husband, in the meantime has been using his calendars that aren't iCloud affiliated since he is still on IOS 4
I am wondering what will happen with those "On my Mac" calendars he has on his iPhone if I already had those calendars on my iPhone when I switched to iCloud?- we use the same apple ID.
It has been a while since I synced his iPhone.
So, then, I had a duplicate sets of calendars in my iCal (iCloud and the Mac-driven calendars).
But, then a week ago, I downloaded Lion onto my MacBook.  It seems to still be connected via that CALDAV link I did.  Not sure if that is still the most efficient way-this was a workaround for Snow Leopard,
but how is Lion supposed to be set up for iCloud calendars?
(I also am unsure all the time why my computer is asking to use a password using my email account in my keychain- wording is wrong, but I am sure others have gotten this same request.  I have denied, I have accepted, but never said always allow because I am not sure what it is trying to do.)
    So, my question,
can I delete my old "On my Mac" calendars since I have abandoned them?  What will happen when I connect my husband's iPhone if those calendars are missing?  Could I just sync the new iCloud calendars as described above instead onto his iPhone?  And, will it from then on out allow him to use iCloud, or does he need to be on IOS 5?
BTW, I don't know if it matters, but I have never had a .me account.  I read somewhere you can get a .me email account by having Lion.  I think I read that I need to set that up in iCloud on my MacBook, but have not done that.  My current apple id is an independant email account that I've had for years.  Not sure what will happen if I ever have to get rid of that email address.
I am sure I can change my contact email address in my apple profile, but would that change my apple id to the new email address I give (whether it be a .me email or a different, let's say, gmail account)?
My iPhone seems to be syncing okay.  But, would like to clean up my iCal and I want to make sure I do things properly when it comes to syncing with my husband's iPhone if he stays at IOS4 (and how I sync him up- can it be automatic or do I have to continue the hard wire approach?) and what I should do differently in setting up his iPhone if he switches to IOS5 (and what steps I should do as I update him to IOS5 so calendars aren't lost or duplicated- as he has added entries to his calendar for example -"Husband's calendar"- and I have an iCloud calendar named that, but he has added more to the "on my mac" version on his iPhone and I have added some to the iCloud version.)

u mean mobileme yes? first thing to do is to go to mobileme ON THE WEB and see if the events are there. then check to make sure you are using the right calendar in iCal and mobileme is set to sync ur calendar in the first place.
    In iCal:
    In system preferences:
then if that all looks good and still no dice, there is a procedure in the mobileme forum for resyncing all your mobileme stuff.

  • ICal and Adressbook sync issue

I just got iMail set up to sync with an Exchange webmail solution that we have at work.
What was kind of strange, was that it did not import the contact, and calender information into iCal and Adressbook.
We use Exchange at the office, and can either access it through vpn or webmail. Either one should work, but I guess the webmail one is the easiest.
Anyone have any input on how to do this for calender and contacts.

This is solved. Obviousely a issue in iCal on the Mac were all entries were local after the iCloud switch.

  • ICal and iCloud issues on new BT ISP

My iCloud and iCal Calanders were working fine until last week when I switched to a new broadband provider (BT or British Telecom) and a new router supplied by them.
Now I find a small warning triangle in iCal next to my calendar name, clicking on it reveals an error message saying "The request for account "ICloud" failed. I have signed out of iCloud but I am now unable to sign back in, a message appears saying "you can't sign in at this time, try again".
iCloud syncing has failed on my iphone 3, MBP and my iMac.
I'm guessing this has something to do with my new WiFi set up or being on a new server with my new ISP. Unfortunately I do not know where to start to resolve this issue. Any advice?
I'm using Mavericks (10.9.5) on the iMac and 10.8.5 on the MBP. Help! this is affecting my work.

I forgot about the home/sleep button hold-down option.  Worth a try.  --But it didn't work for this problem.
Still have the green app saying there are 26 (already read) messages waiting.
    Any other ideas?
(and thanks so much for the quick replies!!)

Yes, you can create separate calendars in iCal, and have them sync separately. All controlled inside iTunes when you sync your phone, or Mobileme.

  • Mail on iOS 5 and iCloud sync (Mails are not marked as read when I read them on my MacBook)

    Hello everyone,
I am an iOS 5 and OS X Lion User in Germany and I have following question concering Mail on iOS 5 and iCloud.
I have a MacBook Pro 13" with OS X Lion 10.7.2 and an iPhone 4 with iOS 5. I also have an iCloud account (I switched yesterday from MobileMe).
When I receive a new e-Mail it will be pushed immediately to my iPhone an my MacBook. When I open this new e-mail on my iPhone, it is immediately marked as read on my MacBook. But when I open the new e-mail on my MacBook, it is not marked as read on my iPhone. I have manually to sync mail first.
Does anyone know if this feature is not supported on iCloud and iOS 5? Thanks for your help!

Add me to the list of people having this problem.
I have 1 Gmail account a 2 Google Apps accounts and this happens with all 3. If I read a messaging in Mail.app, it DOES get marked read on my iPod Touch, though.
If I read the emails on my iPod Touch, BlackBerry, or Gmail web interface, the read status does not get synced back to Mail.app unless I close and re-open it.
Not sure if this is an Apple issue or a Gmail issue, but it's VERY annoying and somewhat defeats the purpose of using IMAP.

  • Keynote and iCloud - sync with iPod

I am using Lion and I have a problem when I begin a document in mac I can upload to icloud fine - the ipod sees it fine. The problem is when ipod closes and updates and I go to icloud to download I don't know where it goes and I don't see any changes in the original document.
If I start with ipod and upload to icloud fine - download to mac - I see it.  I work on it and I upload when finished.  It goes up and the ipod sees it and tries to bring it in but does not recognize it as same document and saves it with a "1" after the name.
Please advise how to get this to work properly.
I do not have iworks 09 I only have keynote latest version for both ipod and mac

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It sounds as though you have a conflict of versions, I had a similar occurence, it took some sorting out.
    Try this:
Remove the most up to date versions of your documents either by downloading from iCloud.com or by saving to iTunes on the iOS device. Turn off document and data syncing on all devices, turn it back on and change the name of your documents before re-adding them.

  • Ical and iphone syncing issues

I'll pile on with my own iphone/ical sync issue, to add to all the others i see.
my iphone and ical synched just fine from the start, but since installing software updates, suddenly the calendar on iphone will not accept any new information.
originally, i'd set up my entourage to sync to ical, and in turn 'sync' to iphone, but to test if this runaround was the problem, i've followed some of the other instructions laid out elswhere on this board to set up a test calendar on ical.
this hasn't worked either. nor will the iphone calendar accept any new info when i explicitly direct the itunes software to replace info.
i've also tried resetting everything, but those stubborn pre-software update calendar items remain on my iphone, completely unchanged.
    anyone have any ideas?

The same thing happened to me. As of today's update (11/16) I got to the root of the problem. go into itunes with iphone connected. select information, and if your problem is mine, you will see that all ical and mailbox synching options are now strangely unchecked. check the boxes for what you want to synch. click apply. for an unknown reason, the software update then reveals that it thinks your phone is synching to another account. just keep clicking through, selecting synching with your computer and "new" account. ditto for the keychain issues. presto! it all synchs correctly again.
    hope this helps!
