  • FCStudio won't install on Mac Pro Intel

One of our Mac Pro's (1,1) had some problems so I transfered 1 account onto another Mac Pro (1,1).
On the first Mac Pro (the one which became veeerry slow) Final Cut Studio and Motion worked perfect.
Only on the 2nd Mac Pro I 'm not able to install FCP studio. I am able to start up the installer and fill out all details, including my serial number.
After clicking 'Install' it seems the installer doesn't react anymore. Is this due to the license or is my OS corrupt?
Has anyone a clue what the problem could be?
    Thanks!

    Hi DH,
i tried installing on another Mac: OS10.6.8.
The installer worked fine: it didn't freeze.
Before I tried this, I cleaned the DVD.
    Should this be the problem?
The Mac I tried on in the first time: OS10.5.8 and FCPStudio 2009.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

  • Email messages won't download on Mac Pro but do download on iPhone.

Email messages won't download to Mac Pro but do download on iPhone 5. I've made no changes in the settings on added any updates, etc. When I "check for new mail" I hear an ping - a tone I normally don't get but no messages appear. Thanks in advance for an help you can give.

I had to call Apple Support for resolution. I'm not entirely clear on the origin of the problem but it seems that the server name(s) for Apple Mail were changed by Yahoo. It took a considerable time to correct but a senior advisor at Apple pulled it through.
Thank you all for your suggestions.

Any 2.5" diam formfactor SATA HDD or SSD will be compatible.  As a start, look at the representative sample available from OWC:

It is very easy to do the installation yourself and it will be a lot less expensive.

  • Boot Camp XP SP2 installer won't launch on Mac Pro

    Hello,
My new Mac Pro just came this morning. On the way home from work I picked up a copy of Windows XP intending to install this with Boot Camp and get some games running.
I have a Mac Pro 2.0 GHz with the ATI x1900 video card.
    I am using a 23" Cinema Display.
The Windows XP box says "For PCs Without Windows" and "Now Includes Service Pack 2 with Advanced Security Technologies".
Upon inserting the XP CD and clicking Install from Boot Camp Assisstant, the computer restarts, the screen blanks to white shortly, then it goes black but nothing happens after that. I've let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
I tried restarting the computer while holding down the option key, and selecting the "Windows" CD as the boot device, and I end up with this same black screen and no activity.
I can still boot into OS X if I select MacHD at the boot screen of course.
Is anyone here running Boot Camp XP on this same configuration with a Cinema Display?
It looks like I'll want to do the PIO/DMA workaround at some point, but for now I just want to figure out why the installler won't even start.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Chad
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Ugh. Problem solved.
I should have thought of this. The problem for the installer was the Cinema Display.
I attached an old VGA monitor instead and I can now confirm that the XP installer appears to be running.
    Sorry about that guys!

  • Can't get XP or Vista (full retail!) to install on Mac Pro...WHY?

    All;
I have an original Mac Pro, (2x2.66) with 5 Gb of RAM...and I was one of the early adopters of Boot Camp way back when you had to slipstream an XP disc to get it to work. So, I have my original slipstreamed XP disc, which worked fine the first time I did this...
I have a second internal drive on which I had installed XP - then I ran out of room on my Mac OS drive, so I decided I would wipe the second drive, use boot camp to make a second partition so I could use part of that drive for OSX, and part for XP. Ever since, I have been unable to reinstall XP. I go through boot camp, and when it restarts, it just hangs on a black screen - never even gets to the beginning of the XP install process.
I also now have a genuine copy of Vista which I've tried installing, still with the same result.
I did my homework, read the forums, found people who had suggested zapping the pram/nvram (which I did), zeroing out the drive (which I did), and install rEFIt (which I did). Still, it hangs on a black screen and won't even begin the install process for either XP (my slipstreamed disc, which I know some have said won't work under the new Boot Camp) OR Vista.
Any ideas? I'm at my wits' end!
    Thanks in advance...

The reason I used 5GB is because it was the default. I installed XP before on the other Mac Pro using the setting so just wanted everything to be the same. I originally set it to 32GB but wasn't sure wether NTFS format was causing the problem.
So, question is what is different between the two Mac Pros I've had? One worked with XP the other doesn't.
I thought the firmware update was supposed to fix the disk problems not brake XP.
Anyone know if I can solve this issue?
I'll get a new HD and try installing Vista or XP - might try installing the disk in a PC and installing there - I've read some people did this and it worked...

  • Font from G5 won't open on Mac Pro. I get a permission error but it's unlocked!

I just moved a font over from our old G5 for a project I'm working on in InDesign on our new Mac Pro and it won't install into Suitcase Fusion 4. So, I tried double clicking on the font to see if it would install into Font Book and I get this:
You do not have permission to open the document CREM1.TTF.
Contact your oputer or network administrator for assistance.
So, I check the properties on the font and "Everyone" was set to "None" for the Privilege. So, I changed that to Read & Write and I still get the same error when I try to double click on it. Over on the G5 I changed the Privilege there and sent back to the Mac Pro. Same thing.
I double click on the font on the G5 and it opens up Font Book like it should. So what the heck? Why can't I get access to this dang font on the Mac Pro? Any thoughts?
    10.7.3

Thanks for the suggestions... tried changing resolution and that had no effect, and I've checked my Perian and DivX installations in System Preferences and both say they are completely up to date. I upgraded Quicktime today to 7.5 before all of this became a problem -- but I don't know how to upgrade iLife. In Software Update everything is completely up to date (eg each of the iLife apps).
Oh well, iMovie is not very useful to me anyway -- just somehow annoying that it fails to work. No point flogging a dead horse!!
Any other ideas gratefully received... many thanks in advance

  • IMac in Target Disk mode won't mount on Mac Pro via Firewire

My iMac (intel Core 2 Duo) won't start up - it has the question mark in a folder icon.
I can't find the Apple Snow Leopard disk, so I've started it in Target Disk mode, connected it to my Mac Pro, but it doesn't mount on the Mac Pro even though it appears in System Profiler on the Mac Pro.
    Both running 10.6.8
Can I force it to mount? I have tried front & back firewire ports and restarted several times to no avail.
I'm hoping to repair the iMac disk using Disk Utility or Diskwarrior on the Mac Pro, but need it to mount first.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

I want to copy everything off the iMac before re-installing Snow Leopard & starting again.
I do not have a backup of the computer (I've had a backup hard drive on order for 7 weeks that has been delayed due to the shortages...) I am aware that this is very stupid of me.
The disk is obviously in very bad shape as Disk Utility can't do anything with it.
Diskwarrior v4.2 on a DVD will make a 'Preview' of a directory of it, but will not 'Replace' the directory as the disk is damaged.
    1. Does anyone know how to make a startup DVD of Diskwarrior v4.4 (I have the v4.4 update but can't find out how to make a new startup DVD using the old v4.2 DVD and the software v4.4 update) and I think Alsoft must now be on holiday as they're not answering... (I would like to use v4.4 as it should be more capable).
    2. Assuming I can get Diskwarrior (hopefully on a new v4.4 DVD) to make a 'Preview' again of the iMac directory, how do I copy everying off the computer? My only guess is to connect my Mac Pro in target mode to the iMac. Will the Mac Pro disk show up in the 'Preview' directory & therefore allow me to copy all of it's contents across to the target mode disk?
    3. Assuming all the above works, is there a best way to copy all of the iMac contents to a folder in the Mac Pro? i.e. is there a way of Carbon Copying it so that after wiping the disk I can simply copy it all back? Or is it all too late for that
THANK YOU very much for any help.

  • Black display, Mavericks install on Mac Pro (Mid 2010)?

I have a FireWire 800 HDD with Mountain Lion 10.8.5 installed, and I zeroed out my primary startup disk to install Mavericks fresh.
However, after selecting the newly-formatted HDD, and letting go through the "preparing" phase, my display went black and it won't wake up.
I'm a registered developer and used every beta since the first one, and had no problems until today.
    Help?

ECC DIMMs are required. If you could get a non-ECC DIMM to fit, it would shut off memory error correction, one of the best features of the Mac Pro with Xeon Processor.
Replacement DIMMs MUST have a large heatsink and Apple approved temperature sensor, because Apple reduces the airflow (based on measured temperatures) for quiet performance. Other manufacturers do not necessarily do this, and if you do not have the correct heatsinks and temperature sensors, the fans may run at full speed, or the DIMMs may die prematurely from overheating.
You can upgrade the DIMMs on each side (group of four slots) by the each. Pairs are not required. Most DIMMs 8GB and under mix readily with others, but some do not. Try the new ones by themselves first, so that you know first whether they work at all, then whether they "play nice with others".
You can spend the next month learning about exactly which DIMMs will and which will not work in your Mac. I do not recommend you do this for a one-off purchase. Instead, buy from a Mac-Centric Vendor who can tell YOU what DIMMs should be used in your Mac, and will stand by them:
    "It works in your Mac,
    or your money back."

  • Canon MF4890 Drivers Won't Install On Mac Running Mavericks

I just purchased an MF4890.  I use a Macbook Pro running Mavericks.  The disk that came with the printer doesn't support Mavericks and when I download the drivers from the Canon website, they won't install.  If I keep the driver image on my Mac desktop, the printer will print for a time -- but then it no longer sees the printer.  This isn't normal.  I should be able to eject the disk image (as in every other application), and the app/drivers should be installed on my mac.  When I as much as created a folder on my desktop and moved the disk images into the folder (print/fax/scan), the mac no longer sees the printer (wireless).
Help!  Does this printer support Mavericks?

    Hi BonnieBoop.
The imageCLASS MF4890dw does support printing on the OS X Mavericks operating system.  You should be able to open on the Mac_MF_Ver1010_00.dmg file and run the installer package.  The icon looks like an open brown box.  Next just follow the steps to install the driver.
If you are not able to see this information or if the setup does not allow you to save the information, we recommend that you contact us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) and a live technical support representative will be glad to assist you.

  • Audio interface console (app) won't work on Mac Pro

    Hello there!
I just bought a new Mac Pro and did a clean install of all my apps. Everything seems to be working fine except one thing: my audio interface's console.
I'm using an Audiofire 4 interface, which has little physical controls on it. I've been using its console software on my iMac and on my MacBook Pro to control it. Last night I installed the software from the CD on the Mac Pro and it won't work!
I launch the application from my home folder on my boot disk (SSD). I also tried installing it on the data HDD and still no luck: when I try to launch it it closes immediately. All my macs are on the same version of SN so that shouldn't be the problem.
Anyone has a few ideas? I use my computer a lot for music so this has to work or I may have to return to the iMac...
    Thanks in advance!

Update: this morning I installed the Audiofire Console successfully on my Windows partition (on another hard drive). I then came back to OSX (on my SSD) and this time the app, instead of immediately opening and closing, beachballed the whole system. The console gave me this:

  • SL installed on Mac Pro. Stuck at Gray Apple Logo

So I installed Snow Leopard tonight and now my Mac Pro doesn't get past the Gray Apple logo. It also won't recognize me holding down any keys on the keyboard (can't reset pram can't boot from CD etc). I took the hard drive out of the computer and hooked it up to my laptop using an external adapter and ran Disk Repair on it. Disk Utility reported that the disk appeared to be okay. I could also see all of my content on the drive, so it doesn't appear to be dead. However it does appear that my Mac Pro might be doing something funky? Please help!

Mac Pro? That's one with multiple HD bays, correct? If so, then restore the bootable backup/clone or Time Machine backup of your previous system that you put on one of those other HDs.

  • Capture willl not work with FCP 5.1.1 installed on Mac Pro 2.66.

    I need some help, Please!
Hello, I have just installed my crossover copy of Final Cut Studio 5.1 in a new Mac Pro.
The only problem that I have encountered is with capture. After running for
several seconds capture stops and the spinning beach ball makes its entrance.
After several minutes of spinning the capture moves on for a few more
frames. Again the beach ball will spin for several more minutes. This continues until I click on
STOP at which point the spinning beach ball takes over the machine and will
not give me back control until I turn off my transport/deck. I have reinstalled
only FCP 5.1(not the other apps. from FCS) with no luck. I didn't uninstall the previous copy. No improvement.
All my settings are the same as recommended in Easy Set Up.
The tape and deck work fine on a similar machine with similar software.
I have also found a similar problem with the installed copy of iMovie.
This software was used on a G5 before moving it over to Mac Pro with out
problems. I am at a complete loss. I hope you can embarrass me with a
    simple solution.
    Thank you for your help.

avidvid, thank you for you advice. I did check the system profiler and the device is
recognized, but to no avail. In fact it is getting worse. When I initiate log and
capture I can hear the transport working. It is moving all the time even though
the capture window is now only showing the color bars. The "beach ball" is now
constantly whirling and will only stop when the "deck" is turned of at the source.
I am worried that I have messed up the reinstall. I am really not sure how much
"stuff" I must remove from the system, or whether to reinstall the entire suite.
    Thanks again for your trouble.
