OS X wouldn't install after accidentally installing Windows over it

My sister attempted to install Windows XP on her Macbook Pro using boot camp but some how accidentally installed Windows over OS X. I used Disk Utility to erase the drive and reformat it back to "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" but I get the following error when trying to install OS X:
+"Install Failed+
+Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer+
+The Installer cannot prepare the volume for installation. You may need to prepare your disk using Disk Utility.+
+Click Restart to restart your computer and try installing again."+
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a problem setting or hardware wise?

In addition to formatting, you need to be sure the disk is partitioned GUID for an Intel machine.
Boot into Leopard DVD and run disk utility again and repartition it and format it at the same time. Because of the bootcamp issue, you might be better making two partitions first and then making one to be sure that the entire disk has a single GUID/HFS+ partition/format scheme.

You will need to identify your CPU and chipset. CPU-z is a free and safe utility that can do that for you.
If your system has an Intel chipset with disccrete or onboard graphics or an NVIDIA chipset with onboard graphics, then the drivers are here at this Realtek download page.
If your notebook is an AMD CPU and NVIDIA chipset, with a discrete graphics module installed, then the driver for your Conexant CX20549-12 will be here.

Compressor doesn't work/won't install after FCP5 install

We recently "upgraded" one of the G5s in our lab to Final Cut Pro 5 from FCP HD 4.5 (these were both Academic versions if that matters, so it's not really an upgrade, you buy a new license at academic pricing). I don't remember which we did first, but we also upgraded this machine to Tiger at the same time.
The guy that does most of the video work on this machine reported to me that compressor wasn't working. That it would launch and crash, and sure enough it does. So I did some investigating, and the version of Compressor that appears to be installed on the system is 1.2.1, but doesn't Compressor 2 come with Final Cut Pro 5 (or is it just Studio)? I tried to reinstall from the disk and and on the install screen where it lists the packages to install (the 'Custom Install on "Macintosh HD"' screen), Compressor shows up as unchecked, greyed out and with "Skip" in the Action column. I've even tried removing Compressor from the Applications folder and that doesn't seem to make a difference. Is there any way for me to force the installer to install the version of Compressor on the Final Cut Pro 5 disk?
Something seems to be messed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

OK, it took some fiddling, but I got Compressor to install correctly. First I tried the instructions Apple has here:

So then I found this page with a brief article on "Tricks to install Compressor 2 on G3 Mac":

Not very descriptive, but I basically had to make a local copy of the Compressor package from the Final Cut Pro Install disk, then go in and remove the InstallerCheck and VolumeCheck files and then manually install that package by itself.
I did a reinstall of FCP5 from the disk for good measure after that, and then a software update. It still says "Skip" for Compressor vs. "Update" for everything else when you are in the FCP installer. Everything seems to be working fine now though.
This seems like a serious problem in Apple's Final Cut Pro 5 installation package (at least for the academic version and whatever sequence of steps got us into this state).

I am sorry to hear that you are unable to install successfully on your Windows 8.1 with your Officejet 4500 Wireless. I can see that the installation quits on you, giving you an error message. I am going to recommend trying a couple of things to hopefully make the installation successful.
1. First of all, try installing by using The Printer Install Wizard for Windows which finds the correct driver for your unit and installs it.
2. If that does not work, please try this next troubleshooting document step by step.

Vaio Care won't install after upgrade to Windows 10

Upgraded to Windows 10. When the desktop came up Vaio Care was uninstalled and then reinstalled automatically. When I opened Vaio Care I noted I had a duplicate link for the program accelerator under the premium tools so I uninstalled Vaio Care and ran a registry cleaner and then downloaded Vaio care again from the software and driver page for my Windows 7 - VPCEB11GX. When I attempted to install got a message that it was the wrong software for my operating system and noted I need to install Vaio Care for Windows 8.1 64 bit. Can you please direct me to a download link for same? Thanks.

Mavericks won't install after accidentally deleting recovery partition on 10.6.8

I have been searching for hours for a solution and found none.
Essentially, I was running 10.8 on my MBA which originally came with 10.6. Wishing to perform a clean install of Mavericks, I accidentally deleted the recovery partition. Installing Mavericks would then always crash midway; so eventually I reinstalled my original OS from the bootable disc from apple. Then I figure I had to create a bootable disc for Mavericks, which I did, and the result is the same, the installation crashes midway.
Any other way I could install 10.9?

Mavericks creates a recovery partition while installing.
So, no previous recovery partition needed.
But playing whith partitions could be a mess.
Try a clean reinstall.

Downgrade to SQL 2014 Standard edition after "accidental" install of Enterprise?

Hi,
After installing the umpteenth SQL server on autopilot, i realized that i installed a standard edition with an enterprise ISO.... stupid me, and i got my fair share of laughs from my colleagues (and then some) :)
But i was wondering.... since i have not installed or used any Enterprise features, a downgrade should be possible right?
Being a lazy bastard or time efficient nerd (take your pick), i fired up setup again, and i got to this screen.... and i was stumped.... the downgrade path is valid, the rule passed, so why can't i downgrade?
I know i can re-install to get it to work, but why can't i downgrade?
A downgrade also comes in handy sometimes when customers want to downsize a server from Enterprise OLTP to Standard OLTP, or when some stupid yahoo like me installed Enterprise for OLTP DEV / TEST, where Standard is more than enough.
Any ideas anyone?

So why not make it possible....?
This question you should ask to Micrsoft team( I am not aware why they made restriction) . It would be premature for you to comment that 'code base for Stand and Ent are same'. Its not an open source whoes code you can see and can make changes( Like Unix
and Linux )

How to Install Commercial Version After Accidentally Installing Educational Version?

I have licenses for both FlexBuilder 3 Educational and the regular commercial version. I accidentally ran the educational installer on a PC where I meant to run the commercial installer. I've uninstalled the educational version and reinstalled the regular version but when I start FlexBuilder it still says Educational. The educational version is missing some features that I need from the commercial version. How can I get the installation configured to work as a commercial version?

Thanks for the tip! I hadn't yet entered my educational license but the splash screen screen said "Educational" at startup anyway. So I thought that the educational version must have been built into the installer. But, after entering my regular FlashBuilder Pro key it switched over.

Office 2004 won't install after Leopard install

Hi there,
So first of all, I've always had a problem with the Office 2004 CDs even running in my CD-ROM. Other CDs work fine, but not Office 2004 (and I've tried multiple copies). Even to install on Tiger, I had to sit there and just keep reinserting the CD when it wouldn't read and wait till the magical one time when it did and I could proceed with the install (my theory is that this particular line of CDs must achieve a specific temperature within my CDROM by spinning countless times before they'll be read )
I'm experiencing the same problem with Leopard. However, it's taking much longer for the CDROM to recognize the CD (only once so far in probably 60 tries). The big problem is that when it actually read the CD and loaded up the install file disk onto my desktop and I opened it the Office Setup Assistant was greyed out. When I clicked to activate it, I got an error message that read:
"You can't open the application 'Office Setup Assistant" because the Classic environment is no longer supported."
I have no idea what this means really. I tried looking some stuff up online about it and from what I can gather this is an issue with trying to run OS 9 apps on an OS X machine (could be wrong on that too). I've only ever had an OS X machine, so I'm not sure why I'm getting this message -- any ideas on why and how to resolve it?

I can clarify your error message for you. The Classic environment was essentially an OS9 emulator, in case you had to use an application that hadn't been upgraded for OSX. But the Apple OS no longer provides that support for OS9, so an OS9 app such as this Setup Assistant can't run at all under Leopard. But the Assistant isn't necessary-- it just saves you the trouble of going thru each Office app's Preferences and customizing your settings.
As for your CD problems, it sounds like Microsoft laid some crappy discs on you. Maybe you could exchange them?

I've installed WebCenter 11.1.1.1.4 and now I try to setup connection to Content Server. I've configured it in standard way (socket, 127.0.0.1, port 4444). When I click "test" next to connection, it works fine. But when I try to access documents portlets in Webcenter Spaces, I got message saying "error during repository communication". I don't know what to do now - in installer I don't see any USM features, neither in content server administration panel. I'm new to Webcenter and I don't know what can I do.

UCM / Content Server has lot os additional bits of functionality that can be added via 'components' These are standard supported Oracle add ons that give new functionlality to UCM.
Webcenter depends on the UCM folders component for the integration that you are trying to use. For whatever reason you do not have the Folders component installed/enabled.
You can add this component through your UCM admin server but the instructions are slightly different depending on whether you are using UCM 10g or UCM 11g

today i was forced by microsoft to upgrade from windows 8 to windows 8.1 I have problem with installing Dolby Digitial Theater Home app. I unistalled previous conexant drivers (windows 8) and installed new conexant (for windows8.1). I removed dolby. Then i went to C/Drivers/WIN/Audio/DolbyGUI/ there is setup.exe, dolbydigitalplusAA.msi and dolbydigitalplusHT.msi. THe setup.exe doesnt start installation, plusHT(home theater) gives message saying - cannot installed due to an error. However I can install dolby digital advanced audio, but I want my Home Theater back!!!! Can you please help me resolve this matter.... thank you

Thanks for posting!
1. Uninstall all components,
Open Device Manager and Uninstall your Conexant audio under Sound and ganing controllers (make sure to place a check under delete driver software for this device)
2. Open Control Panel Uninstall a program and highlight the dolby component and an Uninstall button will appear.
3. Open your C: drive and Delete any folder that says drivers if non then continue with the next step
4. Download this Driver for installation
Conexant Audio Driver
Install it and continue
5. Open Drive C: now and you should have the Drivers folder back.
Open that, Open Connexant Open Dolby Gui, then you should have Dolbyaa for Advanced audio.
Restart your PC and there you go!

HP Deskjet F2120 all in one printer driver not installing after upgrading to Windows 7

I have a HP Deskjet F2120 all in one printer. I was working fine in Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
Once I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit the driver is failing to install.
I have tried all the solutions provided on the HP website but none of them worked.
I also wrote a mail to HP support but they replied that its out of warranty hence they will not be able to help.
If some genius can help me I will pray for him/her that all his/her wishes come true.

I just got my HP Deskjet F2120 working in Windows 7. Here's how:
Insert the setup disk in your CD/DVD drive. Choose to view the files in Explorer. Scroll down to the file "Setup," which is identified as an application.
Right-click the file and select "Properties." Click the "Compatibility" tab at the top of the resulting window.
Check off "Run this program in compatability mode for:" and choose "Windows Vista" from the pop-up menu.
ALSO check "Run this program as administrator" at the bottom of the window.
Press "Apply," then "OK."
Now you can double-click the "Setup" file and run the software installer.
It will 100% work inshallah...

IPhoto 8 is NOT installed after I installed it

I purchased iLife 8 for family (5 installations). On my 5th installation, iTunes installed but not iPhoto. I tried it again with the same results. Any ideas what's happening?

I trashed the iPhoto pkg files and reinstalled -- still no new iPhoto. I clicked on "custom install" and iPhoto is grayed out. I've installed this on my other 4 computers with no problem, so maybe it's some setting in the computer that's goofing things up?

Fingerprint Driver Install after clean install of Windows 7

I've performed a clean install of Windows 7 on my X300 (6476CTO). I downloaded and installed the Fingerprint Driver 5.9.2 for Windows 7 32-bit (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73583). However, everytime I reboot I get a message that the Fingerprint Reader cannot access dll file vtapip.dll and the fingerprint registration fails. What can I do to remedy this problem?
I did notice on the readme that machines running less than the 5.6 version of the fingerprint software should upgrade to 5.6.2 before installing newer versions. Does this include clean installs? If so, where can I get the 5.6.2 driver? I cannot currently locate it.

I have searched for A200 and A210 in the Toshiba sections of Equium, Satego, Satellite and Satellite Pro but their are no Flash card support utility. In the details of the "Value added package" are the words:
"TOSHIBA Flash Cards provides the Hotkey function and the launcher function that starts the Hotkey function and launches the other TOSHIBA utilities"
So I think it's useless to search for this utility. It's more important for me to know which files (like name of the launcher program) must be started to use the FN keys.
