OS X Yosemite and Aperture 3

I recently installed OS X Yosemite on my mac book pro and since I can not open my Aperture software - it says "You can’t use this version of the application “Aperture” with this version of OS X. You have “Aperture” 3.2.4."
there is an upgrade available through the App Store "version 3.6, released Oct 17, 2014 -this update addresses compatibility with OS X Yosemite and stability improvements"
This is exactly what I need, however when I click on "Upgrade" an other small window appears with the following "Update Unavailable with This Apple ID - This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled".
How can I fix this issue otherwise how can I retrieve all my photos in the respective files and order - I am desperate.
thanks for any help

Certain copies of Aperture 3 were eligible to update to the App Store versions.  Had you done this before updating to Yosemite?  It would have been done by clicking 'accept' on the purchases page of the App Store, which then ties it to you Apple ID.  If you had not done this previously, and you do in fact have an eligible copy, after updating to Yosemite, the accept button goes away and you'll get the message you have now.  (FYI, this also applies to iMovie, GarageBand, Pages, Number, and Keynote.  It used to include iPhoto, but this is now free.)
If this is what's happened, to fix this, you'll need to contact Apple or delete/buy the app again.  There is no other solution.  They'll want the product code off the Aperture DVD.  It'll start with something like 0Z and go on.  Contact Apple here:  Contact Apple for support and service
But, check the obvious first.  Makes sure it's not associated with a different Apple ID.  You can sign out/in from the store menu.

If it is still slow after removing Symantec, you may need a RAM upgrade. Yosemite can run very poorly on older machines with only 4 GB RAM.

  • Help! Aperture won't open after update to Yosemite and Aperture

It keeps telling me I have version 3.4.5 BUT i did the update and still doesn't open!!!
when I go to the app store it shows that Aperture download it done, it shows OPEN. I click on it and Nothing happened.
    Please help me here!

Version 3.4.5 will not work with Yosemite. How did you purchase it - via the app store or retail DVD?
Can you open your Applications folder in column or list view, highlight Aperture, and post back with the version please.
It has been updated and the app store had 3.5 (and now 3.6) available.

  • Yosemite and Canon RAWs - Random "Unsupported File Format"

It all started with Yosemite betas, random raw files in Aperture would pop up with the dreaded "Unsupported File Format" graphic. I tried a lot of stuff, rebuild the library, delete prefs, etc. Nothing work. I tried exporting the raws and neither iPhoto or Preview would open them. Downloaded the LightRoom 5 trial and it opens the files fine. OK, tried Aperture on a laptop with Mavericks, the files open fine there too.  So it looks like it is something in the way that MacOS is handling
Any ideas? Now with the final release of Yosemite and Aperture 3.6 trying to open one of these file just crashes the software. I can't really say I like LightRoom but if I have to move on, I guess I will.

What version of iPhoto is it?
The issue is that the OS provides RAW support, but the applications need to leverage it. Aperture 1.5.6 is old: Aperture 2.0 came out in March of 2008 so there hasn't been an update to Aperture 1.5 since 2007-ish. It is unlikely that any cameras that shipped since then will ever be supported in Aperture 1.5.x.
The improvements/advantages to going with Aperture 3.1 over 1.5 are huge (assuming you have a capable machine) and well worth it.

If you want just the originals, then you can go into the Aperture library (right click on it and do "show package contents"). Inside is a directory called "Masters" and you can find the original files in a bunch of subfolders.
But... you'll lose all adjustments, keywords, and other information, and just have the files as they were imported originally from the cameras.
Easiest is probably to buy Aperture and update everything, and then migrate to the Photos application down the road if that's what you want. Aperture 3.0 came out in 2010 (five years ago!) so it's not like you've upgraded in a while

  • Problems with iCloud photos on both iPhoto and Aperture after uploading Yosemite

I uploaded Yosemite and am unable to access my photo albums in iCloud on both iPhoto or Aperture.
I have repaired permissions, repaired database, rebooted, checked preferences. done everything I can think of to get them visible on my Macbook pro.
I know that the albums are there as they show on my iPad.
any new photos are shared and I can place them in the albums but none of the 15,000+ photos previously shared show in their respective albums.
This after leaving the programmes running for 3 days.
    any help really appreciated
    Thank you

Can you please show a sample of the wrong dates - both for Aperture and iPhoto?
What is your Aperture version and your iPhoto version exactly?
What did you do, before this problem started? Have you tried already some trouble shooting, like repairing the Aperture library ? Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805

  • Iphoto and aperture start up problem with Yosemite

Just found out that after installing Yosemite, both my iPhoto and aperture library took very long in order to show up contents after start up. Not sure what causes the delay, does anyone else experience the same problem? For reference, I am using late 2013 15" Macbook pro.

In the case of Aperture you can open the Activity window and check what Aperture is doing.
From Aperture's main menu bar:   Window  > Show Activity
When Aperture launched the first time, I saw the following activities, that took a noticable amount of time:
    Importing iCloud photos
    Scanning faces
    Rendering previews for iCloud videos.

  • Aperture unable to play slideshows since updating to Yosemite and 3.6

    Hi,
I updated yesterday to Yosemite and to Aperture 3.6 accordingly, and Aperture has been unable to play slideshows since then. It crashes abruptly whenever trying to play a slideshow from a project (though NOT from an album - weird). Same happens on iPhoto.
    Any similar experience anyone ?
    Best regards to all,

    Hi Leonie (and Frank),
Tried Frank Caggiano's options : it turns out the problem did NOT occur under another user. It did not occur either when creating a new library. In that new library, I stuffed a project with some 270 raw photos (those from one of the very projects that caused Aperture to crash under my usual library) and launched a slideshow from that project ==> no problem.
So my guess is that something went awry with my usual library. Do not know how I could fix that.
Hereunder the crash log (50-some first lines) I got in the report after Aperture crashed.
Many thanks again to both of you for your helpful insight.

  • Yosemite and Old Aperture

I upgraded my iMac to Yosemite and ignorantly didn't think about software becoming obsolete.  I had been running aperture 2.  How do I regain access to my library?  We're talking solo versions of wedding photos.  The computer was time machine backed up to an external hard drive.  Do I recover it? Upgrade aperture?  Help please.

If you use Yosemite, then you must upgrade Aperture to 3.6.x.

Thanls Ernie. I found the solution. My problem was previous to 10.10.3. It looks like the installation of final cut and uninstallation of fcp delte a plugins that was needed for Aperture. I recover from time machine my plugins in Library/frameworks/plugin.manager.framework and now Aperture works ! Ouf....

  • Compatibility between Yosemite and Photoshop / Bridge CS5.

I am concerned about the possibility of incompatibility between Yosemite and Photoshop / Bridge CS5 so have delayed updating my Mac. Has anyone updated, experienced problems and found solutions? What does  Adobe have to say in this regard?

I'm not sure I know enough to answer the question.
The images are on my G5 on a second internal hard drive (not the boot drive).
They are in a folder with a lot of images from the same shoot.
That folder shows up in the Library in Aperture, also. I think I imported them. But, as best I can tell, they do not "only exist in Aperture" because I can see them, and their .xmp files in the original file on the second internal hard drive.
Thank you so much for trying to help.

  • From Mavericks to Yosemite, current Aperture unavailable, "Purchased"not working

Updated from Mavericks to Yosemite, which made my current Aperture 3.5 unavailable, I went to the App Store, went to "Purchased" to update to 3.6 found Aperture and clicked update. I get a small spinning thing on the upper left, but there is no activity, I get a little spinner but it stops and looking at what is being downloaded I see very little activity from the app store.

The solution, for me, is here.

  • Recently upgrade to Yosemite and now Apple symbol and install bar displays each time I restart

    Hi guys,
Hoping someone can help. Recently upgraded to Yosemite and the other day I noticed that when restarting the Apple symbol displayed along with the install bar (just like happens when you upgrade your iPhone). This went on for about 30 seconds before the login screen displayed. This now happens every time I restart. I haven't downloaded and tried to install any files so I am not sure why this keeps happening.
I am worried it might be malware or similar that is trying to work into the operating system. I have disconnected WiFi and timed the restart to check the logs (although I have no idea what I am looking for). The Apple System Log (ASL) Message log seamed to have a number of fail messages and 'installation' lines so hopefully this will make sense to someone. Below is the log for that 30 seconds of the install.

    Hi Blotontheland,
Thanks for the prompt reply. The interesting thing is that my Macbook Pro was upgraded today to Yosemite and I still have the spinning wheel on the start up screen before the login page comes up.

  • I updated to yosemite and now if someone is using imessage and sends a text message to my phone it doesn't show up on my phone but does on my computer.  I don't want messages on my computer!  How do I get this to go away and work like it used to?

Follow the instructions under the heading "How to unlink a phone number" on this page.
