OS X Yosemite and iPhoto

I've just installed OS X Yosemite update on my iMac and cannot access iPhoto anymore. Can you help ?

Hi
I had the same problem... I upgraded iMovie and then opened it to see if it was OK... it worked thankfully... then in iMovie itself it has a tab at the top left for 'iPhoto Library' so I clicked it and to my surprise it opened my photos in iPhoto! So I clicked iPhoto icon and it said I needed to upgrade... I clicked upgrade and it then said my permissions need fixed... I clicked OK and would you believe it, it went ahead and upgraded! It rejigged the database which took a bit of time but then that was it! It works!
Could work for others Hope this helps you peeps!

Installed Yosemite and iPhoto 9.6. A lot of my photos are now too dark and the colour is way off from the originals. Any suggestions to correct this mess. I did a backup prior to installing Yosemite and iPhoto 9.6.

Check the monitor settings in the System/Displays/Color preference pane.  You may have to change the color profile used or calibrate the monitor.
Also check the System/Accessibility preference pane to see if the Increase contrast checkbox is checked. If it is check it and see if there's any improvement.

we updated our computer to the latest version of yosemite and the iPhoto icon was not usable. The new photo app said it was downloading photo library but never got beyond 11% even after 2 hours. What should we do? We already got rid of iPhoto (as suggested on another website) and now are unable to find and/or download iPhoto. Please help

  • Yosemite and iphoto

    Hello!
I recently installed Yosemite, and since then, I cannot get to my iphoto library. I run my library from an external harddrive, and before yosemite, I would just open the ext HD and then iphoto would open nicely. But not anymore. When i do get info on the iphoto app, I have the newest iphoto (9.6) installed. but somehow it's not talking to my library on the ext hD... Please help!!

Control (right) - click on the external HD's icon and select Show Info from the contextual menu.  The info window will show what the formatting is:

  • OS Yosemite and iPhoto update

I have updated to OS X Yosemite on my Macbook Pro but iPhoto is not there with the bundled apps. I tried to update it though the Macstore but it gives me this message:
Update Unavailable with this Apple ID
This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.
I am the second owner of this Macbook and have no idea what the previous owner's ID was. How can I overcome this issue and update iPhoto without going thru this hassle of Apple IDs.
Please respond if anyone has an idea.

You can use your Apple ID and buy from App store.

  • Yosemite and iphoto upgrade missing photo library

While painfully transferring one user acount to another mac, my external hard drive died with all back-ups.  After I sucessfully and with great trevail migrated the account , I found that I had neglected to upgrade both computers to Yosemite.  When I did so, along, I believe, with iphoto, my photos all disappeared.  It opens up to the screen with the yellow sticky note.  When I try to access the library under Finder, Photos, it still opens up the to menu with the yellow sticky note, and no photos (oddly enough, the trash in iphot is filled with the many many photos that I have deleted and never gotten rid of).
    Help....

Have a look at this discussion - iPhoto Upgrade and Library Issue
It may be the same problem.
Select your iPhoto Library in the Finder. By default the iPhoto Library is in the Pictures folder. Ctrl-click or right click the iPhoto Library. From the contextual menu that will pop up select "Show Package Contents". Are there folders "Masters" and "Old Masters"? If there is a folder "Old Masters" the upgrade of your iPhoto library has failed.
Copy both folders - Masters and Old Masters to a drive, where you have enough space. The Old Masters folder will probably contain most of your missing photos. We do not know any method right now, how to fix a library, that has been corrupted in this way. If you cannot restore from an earlier backup, since your backup drive failed,
    backup the corrupted library,
create a new, empty iPhoto library,
then try to recreate the iPhoto library by importing the photos from Old Masters into a new iPhoto library. also, import any photos from Masters.
And send feedback to Apple. This bug needs attention urgently.  http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html

  • Updated yosemite and iPhoto is gone

I have update to Yosemite 10.3 and my iPhoto is greyed out (it was not updated)  - states outdated version and I can't download newer option - when I do I get a "not available in the US" pop-up.  I have read other suggestions, but none apply to me thus far.  iPhoto is not listed under my purchased apps in app store - I'm assuming because it was preinstalled? It is also not hidden - I checked. So now - I don't have iPhoto and photos isn't an option in the app store either.  Not sure what I should do next

What were you running before you updated? 10.10.2, or an earlier version of OS X (10.9 or earlier)?
If 10.10.2, then iPhoto should still be on your machine. If not, then go to the App Store, purchased tab, and look for iPhoto, and download it (you'll need iPhoto 9.6.1 to run on Yosemite).
If you never installed iPhoto from the Mac App Store, then you should contact AppleCare, who can probably help you out. That's the only option in this case; upgrading from 10.9 or earlier straight to 10.10.3 is a bad incidence of timing.

  • All my events merged into one after Yosemite and iPhoto update

I am running iPhoto 9.6 on Yosemite 10.10. Some short time after updating iPhoto, I found all my events had merged into one. I tried to find the old library, thinking I could tell iPhoto to use the old library, but couldn't find it at all. Then I thought I could go into Time Machine, which I tried several times, and restore my Mac to two days ago before this happened. But that did nothing either. Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

basically you are doing something wrong - events do not merge on their own and if you are running TM then you can restore the iPhoto library from ir - Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac
You can use the autosplit  command to split the "big" event according to your preference settings

  • After upgrading to Yosemite and iPhoto 9.6, cropping no longer works.

In iPhoto I can crop the image, but when I export it I get the full image, no crop. I use the cropping feature all the time. Please help!

it has now stopped working (in my original iPhoto library. It still works in the Test library).
That says your original library is the culprit so do the following with it:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • I have a new iMac with Yosemite and iPhoto won't launch.

I get an error message that something is wrong with the app.  I uninstalled and reinstalled and it still won't work.  Any suggestions?

I spoke with Apple Support because I had done all the updates but found even after using Migration Assistant, my photo library had not moved over.  If you used this tool, you might want to go into manual mode and move your library over with a click and drag from one computer to the other.  Also found that my music and documents didn't move over either.  Not sure what Migration Assistant did for 15 hours.  I used an ethernet connection.  There are faster ways if you have the right cables.

  • I just downloaded Yosemite and all my iPhotos have disappeared! I tried importing them from the photo library but it said there wasn't enough space on my hard drive which is rubbish, because they were there before. How do I get them back to iPhoto?

I just downloaded Yosemite and all my iPhotos have disappeared! I tried importing them from the photo library but it said there wasn't enough space on my hard drive which is rubbish, because they were there before. How do I get them back to iPhoto?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • I just downloaded iPhoto 9.6 onto my iMac, that runs Yosemite, and the program won't open at all.

I just brought my iMac back from the Apple Store after having a new hard drive installed. I wanted to put my photos back onto the computer using the back-up I had made on an external hard drive.
I downloaded iPhoto from the App Store, and initially it opened. I tried to import a folder of photos, but nothing happened. It froze. I did a Force Quit, and tried to import just one photo. Again, it froze, and I did a Force Quit. Then I tried to simply open the program. I got the spinning wheel, and when I looked at the Force Quit box, iPhotos had stopped responding.
I tried to open it using Command+Option, and tried the first option to repair (I can't remember what that option is now), but got the same result. Then I unplugged the external hard-drive and tried twice to open it - once normally, and once using the Command+Option method. Same spinning wheel, and "not responding" message in the "Force Quit" box.
I sent the Force Quit reports (or whatever they're called) to Apple, but I have no idea what they said as I don't understand them.
    I have a 27 inch mid-2011 iMac, running Yosemite (10.10.1), and iPhoto is 9.6.
Please help! What am I doing wrong?

I just tried to open iPhoto by holding down option+command key, and opening it from the dock (and not the icon in applications) - and it opened!
Right-click or ctrl-click the icon in the Dock and select "options > Show in Finder". ,This will show you, where the iPhoto version is installed, that you are running.
It should be revealing the iPhoto version in your Applications folder. Does it?
