OS X Yosemite and Location ?

Hello,
I have a Macbook Air and recently upgraded to OS X Yosemite. I use my mac at school too and they have put a Location element, so when I am at school- they can track my history. When I get home, I changed it back to Home. My iMessage, weather and location services stop  working at school now. Could someone with advanced knowledge on this or past experience please help me.
Thanks in advance

The Yosemite file is very large and a solid Internet connection is required.  I suspect that your problem lies in your Internet service and not your physical location.
Ciao.

  • Recently upgrade to Yosemite and now Apple symbol and install bar displays each time I restart

    Hi guys,
Hoping someone can help. Recently upgraded to Yosemite and the other day I noticed that when restarting the Apple symbol displayed along with the install bar (just like happens when you upgrade your iPhone). This went on for about 30 seconds before the login screen displayed. This now happens every time I restart. I haven't downloaded and tried to install any files so I am not sure why this keeps happening.
I am worried it might be malware or similar that is trying to work into the operating system. I have disconnected WiFi and timed the restart to check the logs (although I have no idea what I am looking for). The Apple System Log (ASL) Message log seamed to have a number of fail messages and 'installation' lines so hopefully this will make sense to someone. Below is the log for that 30 seconds of the install.

    Hi Blotontheland,
Thanks for the prompt reply. The interesting thing is that my Macbook Pro was upgraded today to Yosemite and I still have the spinning wheel on the start up screen before the login page comes up.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?

My screen sharing functionality did not show up in the dock with an updated icon.  It had a question mark- shows my connections but nothing works, I did make sure screen sharing is on and also connected to VPN.  Once I tried to launch screen sharing nothing happens.  Such an elegant solution in Mavericks not does not work. Ugh. Help!

This is the post that got me set up- I too am running an older version at work vs. Yosemite. As soon as I followed is advice everything worked.
Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?
I believe the location of the "Screen Sharing" app has changed, which explains why if you had it in the dock it has been replaced by a ?
Don't forget you can launch screen sharing (once your VPN connection is up) by typing in the Safari destination slot vnc://remotemachinename:portnumber  (omit the :port number if you are using the default VNC port, 5900).  This should launch Screen Sharing and put its icon in the dock.  You can drag the Screen Sharing icon to the left of your dock and it will hopefully remain there after you exit Screen Sharing, or you can right-click on the icon when it's running and select Options->Show in Finder to find out its new location and drag its icon to the permanent entries in your dock.
Hope this helps; worked for me.

  • Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite and HP Printer Support

With the release of the New Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite, HP has provided a list of supported HP Printers, and an FAQ with Yosemite related content.
HP Supported Printers in OS 10.10 Yosemite and FAQ
If you already have an HP Printer installed and working on Mac 10.9 Mavericks, you should have no issues with upgrading to 10.10 Yosemite and still be able to print/scan.
All HP Printers that were previously supported in 10.9 Mavericks, will continue to be supported in 10.10 Yosemite.
If an HP Printer had an Apple in OS driver, it will have a driver for 10.10 Yosemite.
If there was an HP Full Feature Software for your HP Printer in 10.9 Mavericks, then an HP Full Feature Software will be available for 10.10 Yosemite.  The amount of time may vary to complete, so please remember to check your specific product page on hp.com in the future to see if an updated HP Full Feature Software is available for 10.10 Yosemite.

I am an HP employee, but my posts and replies are my own and do not reflect the opinion of HP.

    Hi Omar,
I hope we can help get through this, & Thank You!  So since at this point it seems the software did have problems, either from being removed previously or just the combination of a few things, upgrade, install, and uninstall.
If this is the only printer you have, then I suggest the following.
    1. Go to System Preferences
    2. Go to Printers & Scanners
    3. (This step will remove all printers from the print queue) Right click on your printer on the left and choose "Reset Printing System"
    4. Close out of Pritners & Scanners and System Preferences
    5. Open Finder
    6. Click on "Applications" on the left side
    7. Move the HP or Hewlett-Packard folder to the Trash
    8. Click "Finder" on the top menu by the Apple symbol, click on "Empty Trash" (then click Empty Trash to confirm)
    9. Close Finder
    10. Find the downloaded Full Feature software "HP-Inkjet-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.40" and attempt to install again
Note: Step 10 is under the assumption that your printer is still on the wireless network, and the mac is also on that same network.
    11. Follow the onscreen instructions, including on the 3rd screen (Customer Install) to CHECK the box for "HP Scan".
    12. Continue following instructions to install.
If the Printer was not on the wireless network still, then simply plug the USB cable in before running the installer, and choose to install USB to Wireless.  When that install is complete and you have added the Printer Queue for Bonjour, you will then want to remove the printer queue for the USB printer.

  • ITunes 12.0.1 on Yosemite cannot locate my music after Time Machine migration

    Hi hi
On my old 2008 iMac, my iTunes consists of music media on the internal iMac hdd and on an external HDD.
The option "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" was left unchecked on my iTunes.
My 2008 iMac froze and stopped working thereafter a few days ago and I bought a new iMac.
After updating my new iMac to Yosemite, I transferred my old iMac settings and data from the most recent Time Machine backup via Migration Assistant.
Loaded iTunes on my new iMac and noticed that certain playlist are not working, i.e. cannot locate the media file.
I narrowed those unplayable playlists to the music located on my external HDD.
For those that were working, when I get info on the music files, they were located in my new iMac's internal HDD that were transferred over from my Time Machine backup, i.e. ~/Downloads/MP3s/etc.
Those that were unplayable and located in my external HDD points to ' ~/user/xxx/Music/iTunes/iTunes media', roughly along this line despite my old external HDD being plugged into my new iMac.
May get some help as to how to get the unplayable media on my external HDD working on my new iMac?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

actually i have same problem with yours. Finally i get iTunes update from apple website, not thru app store.
but so far i still have no idea to make those iTunes update(8 times) disappear.
it's really ugly in that page.
maybe some one have idea to solve it , please advise it. it will be appreciated much ~

If they have set up port forwarding for you already then that is different.  In that case, then you could be experiencing the bug with the most recent release of ARD (3.7.2) and in particular ARD 3.7.2 and Yosemite ARD version 3.8 clients.  It has been reported numerous times in the forums and to Apple that since 3.7.2, clients are frequently unavailable to connect to despite there being no network issue between the remote computer and client computer.  I have not seen anyone report it who was working from outside the LAN to inside the LAN, but I have the same issue with a number of my own computers that are simply on a different subnet, so it stands rot reason that it would happen from a port forwarding location.
I am sometimes able to resolve the issue locally by SSH connecting into the client computer using Terminal on my admin machine and restarting or relaunching the ARD agent on the remote device, then trying to connect to it again after about 30 seconds.
The Terminal commands for this procedure are as follows, though you might need to include a port number from outside the LAN:
    First:
    ssh ipaddress -l adminusername
    (example: ssh 192.168.1.1 -l macadmin)
    Second:
    sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -restart -agent
After that, waiting about 30 seconds and trying to observe or control usually works, though the computer may still fail to show an online or lit-up status indicator.

  • Yosemite and Photoshop Elements doesn't work. Can anyone help

I have recently updates my mac software to Yosemite and Photoshop Elements doesn't work. Can anyone help

    Hi,
We sincerely apologize for the problem customers are facing while using a trackpad with Photoshop Elements 11 & 12 on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
We have been actively working with Apple to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We're hopeful this will get completely resolved in an upcoming update of Yosemite(MAC 10.10).
In the meanwhile, you have two options to work around this problem:
    1. Option1: Use a mouse instead of the trackpad
    2. Option2: Install a plug-in which should workaround the problem
    Plug-in installation instructions:
    1. Close Photoshop Elements
    2. Download this zip file to a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop)
    3. Unzip the file, WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin, and move it to the Plug-In folder:
    • For Elements 12 – //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
    • For Elements 11 - //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
You can verify the plug-in is installed by launching the Photoshop Elements Editor and choosing Help > System Info... Scroll to the bottom of the text in the dialog and look for the plug-in name "WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin".
Note: This plugin is a temporary workaround and should be used until this issue is addressed in Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). Please remove this plugin once the issue is officially resolved by Apple.
If you are using a stylus in conjunction with a trackpad, you might see issues with your trackpad. Workaround in this particular case is to use mouse instead of the trackpad.
    Hope this helps!

  • Can't use "Place Linked" or "Place Embedded" or "Open" after upgrading to Yosemite and PS CC 2014

When I go to File > Place Linked / Place Embedded / Open it isn't working anymore after upgrading to Yosemite and PS CC 2014.
If I drag a file to Photoshop, I can open it that way, or by using "Open Recent".
I've tried going to the folder "Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 Settings" and deleting the file "Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 Prefs.psp", and then "Place Linked / Place Embedded / Open" works once, but then it stops working again?

Yosemite is still full of bugs that Apple has not been able to fix.  Thank Apple for the damage to your Photoshop install.
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (Bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by manually deleting the Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
NEW Video! Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here:
How to Reset Photoshop CS6’s Preferences File | The Complete Picture with Julieanne Kost | Adobe TV
    Mac OS
Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If  you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

  • After erasing Yosemite and reinstalling Lion can't update

    Hello,
I wonder if anyone might have some suggestions for my problem.  I installed Yosemite and after constant troubles finally erased my hard drive and did an internet recovery to reinstall Mountain Lion.  Internet recovery installed 10.8.5 along with Safari 6.0.5.  When I go to the app store to check for updates, only Yosemite comes up and I cannot locate any security updates nor the version of Safari I was running before the Yosemite mess.  I searched the Apple site, but really don't know what I should be looking for.  I cannot locate any versions of Safari for Mountain Lion, even though I was running an updated version that included DuckDuckGo as a search option.
Can anybody give me some pointers?  I would be very grateful as I know I am not using the most secure updates available on my computer.  I have a late 2012 Macbook Pro.
    Thanks kindly in advance.

Just an update-the next day I was able to retrieve updates for Mountain Lion.  Don't know what happened, so I can't provide any suggestions for one who might experience this.

  • Backup file and locations?

Using Yosemite, and LR4, somehow I seem to have two backup folders (that I am aware of):
    - a folder on my desktop called Lightroom with a subtler called Backups with nothing in it
    - another Lightroom folder inside of a folder on my desktop, and this one contains a Backups folder with lots of dates subfolders.
    - it also contains a .lrdata file, a .lrcat, .db, .db-journal, .db and another .db-journal file
    1. Can I safely delete the folder on my desktop called Lightroom that does not contain anything?
    2. Can I move the other Lightroom folder with the backups to another location? If so, how do I tell LR of the new location?
    Thanks.

If you have LR set up to make a backup each time you close simply quit the program and when the backup dialog appears click the choose button to change the existing file path for the regular backups.
You can then delete the empty desktop folder.

    Hi pwat01,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
If you are not able to authorize iTunes to play your purchases, I would suggest the troubleshooting steps located in the attached article. Be sure to follow all of the steps included in the article including removing the SC Info folder if necessary.

  • I recently upgraded by iMac iOS to Yosemite, and I find that my best buy provided Trend Micro stopped working. Question, what security software is recommended, if any for an iMac. Thanks

I recently upgraded by iMac iOS to Yosemite, and I find that my best buy provided Trend Micro stopped working. Question, what security software is recommended, if any for an iMac. Thanks

Uninstall Trend Micro software. It is not needed and could prevent your computer from operating properly. If there is no uninstaller for the software, then see the following:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper
        2. AppDelete
        3. Automaton
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller
      10. Spring Cleaning

  • Weather and location

    Hello everyone,
first of all, thank you to those who want to help me. My english isn't perfect because I'm from Belgium but I'll do my best.
I'm working on a MacBook Pro with OS version OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 (before that I always wanted the bèta-versions but now everyone has it),
In the experience I'm using Yosemite I discovered that the location of my weather status in the my right message center (under 'Today') isn't updating.
Is there anyone with the same problem?
If I put in 'System Preferences', 'Security & Privacy', 'Privacy' the lock of and on, together with the weather and location services, than it will update.
Thank you very much for your help.
    Kinds regards, Nils Hellemans

Mine doesn't update either, so I think this is a bug in the OS.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Since updating to Yosemite and CS6 2 of my print options are greyed out on my epson R2880 print pane?

My colour and colour settings options are 'greyed out' on my  Epson printer pane since updating to Yosemite and CS6,this happened before after running a software update on the printer driver! The driver version at that time was 6.62 and now it has updated to version 9.00....could this be the problem??

That's strange ... did you try restarting before printer install? You also may need to delete the printer itself (System Preferences > Printers & Scanners) and add it again , in order to access the proper drivers (?)
Can you show screen shot(s) of your incomplete print dialog?
