OS X Yosemite crashes while file sharing

Hi guys,
every time when I open the Sharing pref pane and enabling smb and/or afp sharing OS X crashes.
The settings apps freezes and the whole system stuck. Finder/Dock and the almost all other application also freezes.
Spotlight doesn't response, no chance to open terminal and/or activity monitor.
This behavior still appears with the OS X update 10.10.1.
The only solution is to shutdown the Mac by holding the power button.
That happens really every time when I change the sharing options. The changed settings doesn't take effect and are rested after the forced reboot.
The Mac is connected to WiFi and ethernet via the Belkin Thunderbolt Dock.
thanks for your help

MacBook Pro Retina (Early 2013), OS X Yosemite 10.10.1

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the BOOT_TIME log message that corresponds to the last boot time when you had the problem. Now clear the search box to reveal all messages. Select the ones logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Music app crashes while using shared library

On my ipad 2 while using shared library every time I search the app crashes and most times when I try to play music on the music app via shared, only a handful of the artists show up and album art is all wrong. I tried it with two different ipad 2's thus it's itunes on my Mac Mini..
    I've tried:
    1. Reset ipad (didn't work)
    2. Signed out of ipad music shared, shut app down, sign back in. Most times I'll get all my artists and album art back but when I try to search it crashes, then once I reopen the artists are back down to a handful as opposed to hundreds. Search again, crashes immediately.
    3. I converted all music in my library to the newest ID tags (didn't work)
    4. I deleted both library files, (didn't work)
    5. I started over completely, deleted my library files and media, re imported, changed all ID tags to newest version (didn't work)
    6. Both ipads and computer and itunes are fully up to date
    7. I re synced both ipads by plugging them into the computer, deleted all music (didn't' work)
This has been going on a long time, even under itunes 10, I'm out of options at this point.
    I have 8842 tracks at 66.76 gb.

Unfortunately, I gave up and didn't find a solution.  However, it is, as of today, working properly.
Sorry, wish I had a good solution for you.

  • Mac OS Yosemite crashes while booting

Recently I have upgraded my MPB to Yosemite.
It does crash once in a while. I think mostly while using chrome browser.
    Today it crashed.
So, I restarted it. But it started crashing while it was booting up.
Tried several times but it kept crashing and I kept restarting.
Then I put the MBP on power and then restarted by pressing the power button.
While I did that it crashed several times and restarted itself several times.
Eventually it got started by itself.
Anyone has faced a similar issue with their MBP?

  • Finder half-crash activating File Sharing in Leopard.

Whenever i try to activate File Sharing the top menu bar disappears and I can only force shutdown my mac.
Here's how it goes: I click System preferences-> Sharing -> File Sharing-> "+" button to add a shared folder.
Whatever folder I'll choose, it won't appear in the list of shared folders plus after closing the system preferences window the top menu bar will disappear completely. Then the mouse won't be able to click, the keyboard won't respond (except for putting the mac mini to sleep with ctrl+alt+eject).
Then the only way to restart is to force shutdown the computer.
Operating system 10.5.8, Mac mini from august 2007 with 2 gb ram.
Thank to anyone who will help me, I can't have a shared network anymore!

  • Yosemite crashes while switching spaces.

I am running Yosemite on a Mid-2012 Macbook Pro with Retina Display. Recently, I am experiencing an issue where the computer locks up while switching spaces using the three-finger left or right gesture. The screen locks up between two spaces and becomes unresponsive to mouse movement. Notably, I can still use the keyboard to call up the Force Quit screen, gracefully restart, or even take a screenshot of the problem.
Force-quitting every program open on my Mac doesn't resolve the problem and I am forced to restart. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a fix?

Thank you! After a couple of minutes of switching repeatedly between spaces, I was able to reproduce the problem and Ctrl-Left got me back out.

  • File Sharing Service keeps crashing Error Reading Settings, File Sharing Service keeps crashing Error Reading Settings

File sharing service keeps popping up with the error message An error occurred on the server while processing a command.  This error occurred while processing a command of type 'getConnectedUsers' in plug-in 'servermgr_afp'.
I have tried multiple solutions on this site, unloading afp and restarting it, restarting postgres.  The file sharing tab will show up for a few seconds on the server.app config page then once someone tries to access any of the shared volumes on there, the event log shows it crashing instantly.  Error in console:
    The server '127.0.0.1' reported an error while processing a command of type 'getConnectedUsers' in plug-in: 'servermgr_afp'.  Error: Error Domain=XSActionErrorDomain Code=0 "SETTING_NOT_FOUND_ERR" UserInfo=0x7ffe6a835060 {NSLocalizedDescription=SETTING_NOT_FOUND_ERR}
Also I get the error com.apple.launchd: (com.apple.collabd.notifications[7520]) Exited with code 1 then always followed by Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds and this happens every 10 seconds without fail.

I have started getting this error this morning:
This error occurred while processing a command of type 'getConnectedUsers' in plug-in 'servermgr_afp'.
Using Server 2.2.2; MacMini running OS X 10.8.5, 2 GHz Core i7 with 8 GB RAM attached to a 12TB Pegasus RAID.
When the error appears, my users cease to be able to access file shares.
Often, just before the error occurs, my users experience substantial slow down in the Finder's responsiveness when manipulating files on those shares.
Restarting the Server App will produce one of several results
    1. fix the problem (rarely)
    2. fail to connect to server
    3. connect to server but not get all services running.
The system itself resists a full shutdown, hanging at the grayish-white screen (not spinning wheel or cog or apple logo).
I wish there was some known fix for this.

  • Yosemite file sharing with windows credentials error

    Hello,
While on Mavericks I successfully setup file sharing on my local networks and users on Windows based machines had no issues accessing it. The first time they would find it on their network it would ask them for the credentials I had setup for them as sharing only users on my Mac. However after upgrading to Yosemite while Windows based users can see my shared Mac on their Explorer Browser when they try to access it asks them for a username/password but fails each time stating that it is an incorrect username or password. I am able to access the Windows machine from the mac. I have turned off all firewalls. I have talked with support who viewed screens on both my Mac and the PC to see what was happening but was not able to offer any support. To me it looks like the credentials are either not being properly passed to the Mac running Yosemite or it does not understand the credentials.

After spending some more time on this I ran the same text on another laptop. I setup file sharing and tried to access it from my Windows based machine. This has become rather frustrating and after iSO 8 nearly incapacitated my iPhone I am struggling to find the same love for my Apple devices that I did in the past.

I have the latest downloadable version of LR5.  It crashed while it was createing 1:1 previews during an import. After a Win7(64) restart, it shows a message that LR needs to quit because it can't read the preview files and it will try to fix it the next time is launches.  I get the same message the next and every subsequent time it launches so I can't launch LR at all now.
I get that the preview file got corrupted somehow.  Is there some way to fix this problem without building a new catalog?

Use Windows Explorer to open the folder containing your catalog. You will see a folder with the extension .lrdata. You need to delete that folder and then start Lightroom again. Lightroom will generate a new previews folder.

  • Error 0(Native: listNetInterfaces:[3]) and error while loading shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

    Hi Gurus,
I'm trying to upgrade my test 9.2.0.8 rac to 10.1 rac. I cannot upgrade to 10.2 because of RAM limitations on my test RAC. 10.1 Clusterware software was successfully installed and the daemons are up with OCR and voting disk created. Then during the installation of RAC software at the end, root.sh needs to be run. When I run root.sh, it gave the error: while loading shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. I have libpthread.so.0 in /lib. I looked up on metalink and found Doc ID: 414163.1 . I unset the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL in vipca (unsetting of LD_ASSUME_KERNEL was not required in srvctl because there was no LD_ASSUME_KERNEL in srvctl). Then I tried to run vipca manually. I receive the following error: Error 0(Native: listNetInterfaces:[3]). I'm able to see xclock and xeyes. So its not a problem with x.

if you look at oifcfg getif, I initially had eth1 10.0.0.0 global cluster_interconnect,eth0 192.168.2.0 global public then I created eth1 10.1.1.0 global cluster_interconnect with setif. Should it be 10.1.1.0 or 10.0.0.0. I looked at the subnet calculator and it says for 10.1.1.1, 10.0.0.0 is the subnet. In metalink they had used 10.10.10.0 and hence I used 10.1.1.0
Any ideas on resolving this issue would be very much appreciated. I had been searching on oracle forums, google, metalink but all of them refer to DOC Id 414163.1 but it does n't seem to work. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Under installed products, I see 9i home, 10g home, crs home. Under 10g home and crs home, I see cluster nodes(sunny1pub and sunny2pub) So it looks like the 10g software is installed.

  • Indesign getting crash while exporting because of bad pdf inside file.

    Hi,
My indesing is getting crash while exporting to pdf. I have link to pdf file inside the indesign file, when i export that indesign file to pdf indesign is getting crash without showing any error message. If i place another pdf file in same location then it is going fine and i can able to get the output pdf file. Please suggest me how can i check and correct that pdf file and is there any solution to this. Please help me i have thousands of indesign pages with the same issue. If you want pdf i can send it to your mail id. please i need fix for this problem.
    Thanks
    Kiran

For all of you lurkers, Kiran sent me a copy of the PDF, and it looks like I found the problem (and learned a new technique which may help others in the same boat).
I tried re-frying the file by creating an eps and distilling, but the result was the same, then I tried exporting from CS3, just for fun, and it worked, but I realized the PDF had been cropped, so I started trying differnt sections and isolated an area that failed, though that wasn't particularly helpful.
Acrobat preflight didn't find anything that looked odd or problematic, and then I decided to run Examine Document. It came up with MetaData (no surprise) and also two items under a heading of Deleted and Cropped objects, with no preview or description. I unselected the MetaData from the list of found stuff, them clicked the Remove button in the Examine Document panel, and resaved (and while you have the opportunity to give it a new name, doing so doesn't remove the stuff untill you do the whole procedure again and save with the same name). Placed the new version of the PDF in a new file and exported no problem.

  • File Sharing Only One-Way Now Since Soft Crash

    Greetings!
Several months ago my 1.25 10.4.11 eMac suffered not a physical hard drive crash but some kind of software crash that scrambled directories. Disk Warrior made the system functional again, save an occasional prefs or cookie glitch caused by a .plist file or cookie file's permissions having been re-set by the crash as "no access" or "no read-write" or even no admin or system or user name access at all (such that Safari wouldn't take new cookies since the crash date) which I fix by re-setting read-write to my user name access and admin as secondary access.
I mention this because since the crash it seems that File Sharing on my eMac side is corrupted. I use ethernet to link my eMac with my 900mHz 10.4.11 iBook and prior the crash I could open each other's HD icon on another's desktop without a problem, but now I can only access my iBook's HD icon on my eMac but not the other way around. Actually my eMac's HD icon does appear on my iBook's desktop before the connection's broken after a few seconds, and my eMac's Sharing panel suddenly "ghosts" the Personal File Sharing listing and states "Personal File Sharing Is Turning On" when it's actually broken off.
I've done the works from changing locations to wearing Onyx and Dusk Utility out trying to remedy this but no go. I highly suspect that some critical file sharing files in my eMac may've had their permissions turned off like other .plist files were, but if so, I don't know which files are File Sharing related to check this out if indeed they're responsible. If anyone can point these out for me it might be half the battle won.
    Any assistance would be welcome!
    James Greenidge

I hesitate to jump in because I am running OS 10.5.6, rather than 10.4.x ... but the a guy over in the Leopard discussions simply advised me to search the archives for a solution to my problem and the search led me here.
Sharing seems to be broken on my Mac. The finder disappears whenever I try to set 'sharing' for a folder.
The problem that James had with his machine seemed similar and I was prepared to delete the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist, as suggested by BDAqua. But I DON'T HAVE such a file !! Hmmmmm.
    There is one more thing that might be pertinent. I repaired permissions with DISK UTILITY a couple of times after each time Finder disappears and always receive the same ominous message that the following SUID files had been modified and will not be repaired;
    - System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpLoad
    - usr/bin/setregion
    - System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Versions/A/Resources/runner
    - System/Library/Printers/IOMs/LPRIOM.plugin/Contents/MacOS/LPRIOMHelper
I have no idea what that is all about.
    Any suggestions would be welcome.

  • HELP: Yosemite server file sharing not working

    Yosemite server and OS.latest
I have followed all the steps:
    Set up DNS
    Set up OD Master
Added users one at a time, then added them to groups
Added shares in File Sharing and allocated groups to shares
Just in case, I propagated permissions from storage tab
    All relevant services turned on
Problem: when I test the logins from another local machine, either the credentials aren't recognised, or the only share is admin's drop folder; there should be 4 others.
Urgently need to get this running; what on earth can I have done wrong?
    Thanks

"Once credentials are submitted, the share is mounted without the need to select it - is this normal?"
yes , unless there are other shares as options.
"The share I need reports: drwxrwx---@ 22 admin  all-staff    748 16 Mar 14:38 Current Work, so that looks right."
only posix owner and group are allowed which is admin all-staff. Are these groups available in LDAP ?
really you should have something like
    drwxrwxr-x+ 12 root  admin  408 Mar 15 22:32 MyShare
that little + then allows other users or groups to access the filesystem.
do an " ls -le " to see more
    sample;
    drwxrwxr-x+ 12 root  admin  408 Mar 15 22:32 MyShare
    ls -le
    drwxrwxr-x+ 12 root  admin  408 Mar 15 22:32 MyShare
    0: user:_spotlight inherited allow list,search,file_inherit,directory_inherit
---- then I can allow other access rules.
Using the Gui in osx server I gave read/write access to the IT_dudes Group on the Share. *note the group is an active directory group from the NT Domain named BETH.
    This server is bound.
    drwxrwxr-x+ 12 root  admin  408 Mar 15 22:32 MyShare
    0: user:_spotlight inherited allow list,search,file_inherit,directory_inherit
    1: group:BETH\IT_Dudes allow list,add_file,search,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,readextat tr,writeextattr,readsecurity,file_inherit,directory_inherit

  • Lion Server File Sharing Crashes

We have a brand new Mac Pro (12 core with 64GB of RAM) running OS X Lion Server in a corporate environment. The server is running only file sharing and software update servers, and we have around 40 users who need to be connected over AFP at all times. This company runs 24/7 and we have an XSan environment using an ATTO Celerity 8GB 4 channel fiber card (84EN) along with a 6 port 10GB Ethernet card. The Ethernet card is configured in a link aggregation bond using ports 1-4. The idea is that clients who do not have fiber cards installed on their machines can still connect to the SAN via Ethernet and this file server. They AFP connect to the share, and of course the share is the SAN. It's a single mount point and everyone has read/write access.
The issue is that this machine keeps crashing (multiple times per day) and I cannot find any reason why. Syslog shows nothing of value and I've called into Apple Enterprise Support who also brought nothing to the table.
We initially had SMB and AFP file sharing activated but as soon as a Windows 7 client connected the machine was brought down. So, I disabled SMB via terminal (sudo serveradmin stop smb) and deactivated it via the Server app for the share point). That at least allows the machine to be up for 4-6 hours before crashing again.
This is seemingly the simplest of setups for file sharing and I would've thought that this beast of a machine would be able to handle being a file server without issue for far more than 40 clients. I'm seeing high CPU usage, which Apple support told me was perfectly normal (around 60% on the kernel_task process and around 55% on the AppleFileServer process). It also seems to consume all 64GB of memory, though it shows 60GB as inactive, but at the same time it's paging in and out.
Virtually all of the clients are running Lion (10.7.4), the server itself is running 10.7.4. There are a few ethernet connected clients running 10.6 along with two running 10.5. As I mentioned I disabled SMB so there are no Windows computers connecting to this machine at this time (though it would be nice to get that functionality back if AFP can be stabilized).
None of this makes any sense to me and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this issue. This company simply cannot be down, especially not multiple times per day. The only way to bring things back and running from a crash is to hard boot the machine via the power button as you cannot perform a restart or a shutdown. Once the machine comes back up everything is back to working order for a few more hours until it happens again.

All the memory is fine. The server rarely if ever goes down when there are only around 10-12 users connected. When there are 20+ users connected and working heavily it goes down often. When I say working heavily, I mean they are transferring huge files to the SAN (100GB+), sometimes 5 at a time per user, and there are a bunch of others who are reading large video files at a minimum of 220MB/sec from the SAN.
Though this worked on Snow Leopard without any issues, Lion just doesn't seem to be able to handle it. The odd thing is, on Snow Leopard there was only a single 1GB ethernet connection to a NAS system, whereas with Lion we have a much more powerful machine with a 6-port 10GB ethernet card and a 4 lane 8GB fiber card to a true SAN. You would think that the newer scenario with Lion would handle far more users with ease.
So far, very disappointing with regards to Lion's file serving performance.

IPad Music app crashes while trying to choose my shared Mac music library.  Only a few of the artists show up and if I try a search, the App crashes.

Thanks.  This got all of the artists to show up but the music app still crashes when I search the shared music library.

  • Do I need to use open directory on Yosemite Server, I'm only looking to use file sharing and VPN

I'm setting up a new mac mini server with Yosemite and I was wondering if there are any advantages or disadvantages to not using the open directory service? The only services I'm planning on using are File Sharing and VPN.

You don't need Open Directory unless you want to manage user accounts centrally on the server.
