OS X Yosemite Hangs--A Lot

I've been having an ongoing problem with my system hanging every four or five days. The only workaround I've found is to restart every three or four days before the hang can occur.
I'll come back to the iMac after having been away for a few minutes (not long enough for the screen saver to kick in) and although the system looks functional (all the open windows are showing normal activity) and I can move the mouse pointer around to my heart's content, neither the Bluetooth mouse buttons nor the Apple Keyboard (with numeric keypad connected by USB) function. My only recourse is to press the on/off switch to shutdown.
I've gotten into the habit of manually restarting every few days, but sometimes (like just now) the hang beats me to it. I think it's a Yosemite problem because it occurred with my previous iMac as well. In fact, that's one of the reasons I upgraded my iMac.

OS 10.10.1 Hangs a LOT

I have never had this problem until now. I came back from New Years and turned my iMac on (late 2012 model, running 10.10.1) only to be extremely frustrated with hangs and freezes at odd times, such as:
1. clicking on the Apple logo in the upper left on Finder to get the menu (sometimes hangs for as long as 15 seconds or more before displaying the menu and this was after a fresh reboot with nothing else running)
2. Browsing through a folder of pictures, it takes a very long time to load the thumbnails of the photos, and also takes a long time for preview to pop up when I hit spacebar
3. Simple browsing through my Facebook News Feed via Firefox (latest version) experiences constant hangs as I scroll
4. Clicking on different emails in succession in Thunderbird (latest version) was causing a lot of unpredictable hangs
5. Going to System Preferences and trying to click through the different sections there.... hangs.
I could not get ANY work done at all and was absolutely exasperated when I searched Google for "mac os 10.10.1 hangs" and found a forum post near the top of the search results. I did as Linc Davis suggested and powered off the iMac, unplugged the cord from my uninterruptible power supply, and let it sit there for a minute or so before plugging back in, and powering on. Resetting the SMC.
This seemed to have solved SOME of the issues and the OS runs a lot better now, but I am still getting some weird issues and the occasional hang, although the hang is not lasting as long as it was previously. Whereas before, it was doing it all the time on almost every action I tried to perform, now it is doing is MUCH less but still doing it occasionally and certainly more than should be happening on such a fast computer with 16 GB ram on a fresh boot of the OS and no extra software running. This is absolutely ridiculous.
I have no idea what to do now. I'm almost afraid every time I click something.

My iphone 5s has been hanging a lot. I bought it 15 days ago only.

I got my iphone on 19th December and since then my phone has been hanging a lot. There have been more than 4 times that the phone has frozen and restarted. My software is 7.0.4. I have deleted the apps that makes freezing to happen. It could be that they are not optimized for iOS7, but even then why would the touchscreen be unresponsive at times and a game like angry birds go hang and a game like Deer Hunter 2014 stop loading completely out of the blue moon. I have mailed the developer of Deer Hunter but I wont do that with any other app. I am using an iphone first time in my life and this is what I am getting in a welcome drink.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.
Without knowing precisely what the issue is with the device, there is no way to tell if apple would replace it or not. You would need to take it in to have it checked. Based on the limited information provided, probably not. It does not sound like a hardware issue.

Firefox hangs a lot!!!

My Firefox hangs a lot when I open heavy graphic website. sometime it happens with the normal website with minimal graphic as well. I am using 20.0.1. I am planning to upgrade it to latest version but my belief is that the latest version won't work well in XP.

By hang I mean I get the rainbow pinwheel sign pretty often for a Macbook Pro that was purchased only in August 2012. I have Mac OS Lion 10.7.5
My browser hangs a lot. randomly. I have no reason why. I'd seen a previous post about a smiliar issue where the advice was to run the following series of steps. I did. Please tell me whether it's slow because of third party applications or not. And, of course, what should I do to fix it.

I've uninstalled ClickToFlash and have seen little if any improvement. Indeed, just coming back to this site led to this:
Safari can’t open the page “http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2453707&tstart=0” because Safari can’t find the server “discussions.apple.com”.
Not only is it having trouble loading pages with any complexity (ads, video, etc.), it also hangs ALL tabs while that one page fails to load. In other words, I cannot open a new tab and browse. Everything grinds to a halt.

Can anyone help me? I bought a C3 last week and I have had some problems with it. It hangs a lot. Sometimes when i try to connect to WLAN or even when i try to unlock my phone. Then i get a white screen with "keys unlocked"...

You cannot downgrade.
Try a reset (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays, see if it has cleared things up.
If not, then go to Settings and check all of your settings. If you have lots of Location Services turned on that you don't need, turn them off. Turn off Bluetooth when you are not using it. Turn off Background App refresh, turn off cellular roaming, etc.

Device hanging a lot

I got my BlackBerry Torch about less than a month back from RIM, but, the device has been hanging a lot. I haven't really installed apps yet, except 1. Will reinstalling the OS help? If so, how can I do it? Thanks! ;D

Yosemite Hangs at 50% after Joining New/Old Domain

Hi.
I have read a lot regarding this issue and I am yet to resolve it.
We currently have 60 iMac 21.5 from around 2011. Running Mavericks they ran like a dream but since upgrading to Yosemite they hate our domain.
Diffrent machines hang at 50%. I have known the safe mode boot up then restart trick to work for a few but some are being stubborn and not even booting into safe mode no matter what I try.
Even done the whole reset PRAM which fails to work and also done the Open Directory thing which doesn't stop the issue.
Basically you name it and I've done it. I went to extreme and built a new mac server along with a new Windows Domain and a fresh install of Yosemite and the issue still bloody happened!!
I then thought aaahhh!!......10.10.1 is out..that will fix it! NO! it's still the same.
Can anyone help please?? or do I have to wipe them and roll them back to Mavericks and hope Apple fixes it before 10.11 is out?

Not too sure if anyone is having the same issue but I think I have figured it out or at least our issue anyway.
After trying all the above, I decided to think back to basics. I booted 2 macs up using identical back ups, one didn't have it's hard drive formatted and one did.
The one with it's drive untouched kept on doing the 50% hang. The one with it's drive formatted worked like a dream.
I booted from a Time Machine Backup of the freshly built mac along with all our software installed.
The mac wasn't domained or joined to a Apple Server.
So, this is what I did:
1. Created a Time Machine Backup of the machine how I wanted it replicated.
2. Booted the mac up from the USB Time Machined hard drive.
3. Navigated to Disk Utilities and formated the whole drive from the top object using a different name for the partition.
4. Then closed Disk Utilities and navigated to Restore OS X from Time Machine.
5. Once the restore was completed, I rejoined the mac to the Active Directory then to the Apple Mac Server.
6. Restarted the mac at least 10 times and all issues are now resolved.
Not too sure this will help anyone but it worked for me and now means I can carry on with the roll out of Yosemite.
It sort of makes sense I suppose that you would need to format the whole drive to remove any legacy bugs or settings.
Anyway, hope this helps somebody
