OS X Yosemite has made my MacBook very slow

Question

Hello all.
The new OS X Yosemite update has made my MacBook (13-inch 2006-2010) really slow. Has anyone else had this problem and how do you resolve it? I would have thought Apple would bring out another update by now to help the slowness it has bought to my Mac but I am still waiting and to be honest, getting very fed up with how slow it is.
It is a MacBook 13-inch late 2009 (I believe).
Any help is welcome

Linc Davis- I was not using Yosemite before the upgrade I was using which ever operating system was before that and it was running fine.
