OS X Yosemite upgrade for MacBook Pro

I know some people have found updating to OS X Yosemite an issue so I thought would check with the experts.
I have 17-inch, Early 2011. Processor  2.2 GHz Intel Core i7. Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3. Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63). Hard drive 750GB and 600GB free space.
I am very happy with Lion and am not clear if I need to upgrade or simply continue as I am?
Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Not an expert, but one problem is apparently Apple has stopped releasing security updates for 10.7. There was a major security patch released for 10.8/9/10.
Below is a way to fix it for 10.7 or go to System Preferences/Date & Time and turn off Set Date and Time Automatically.
NTP patch for 10.6 and 10.7
One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won’t have to go though the revert process.
Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

Why there no more upgrade for MacBook Pro 17in ?

The story I heard was that there wasn't enough volume of sales for Apple to expend the resources to develop the line further.  When the 17" MBP line only accounted for 2-3% of the sales, it wasn't enough to offset the expense to engineer it, stock it, support it, etc.  What they chose to do was to offer the retina display 15" MBP that supports the same resolution (and possibly higher) and at the same time reduce the number of models they have to support.

  • Yosemite Upgrade slowed MacBook Pro to a crawl

    Hi Folks,
I'm relatively new to a Mac, and so, after upgrading to Mountain Lion and then Maverick and enjoying all the great benefits, not the least a little performance boost, I was eager to upgrade to Yosemite when it arrived.
Unfortunately, it's not been a good upgrade for me. In fact, I'm  researching how to go back to Maverick. But, before I do, thought I'd share and see if there were some obvious issues being overlooked.
I've already turned off FileVault encryption which helped, but not enough to get back to the Joys of why I've transitioned to a Mac and have been enjoying it so much ever since. Thank God I didn't wait until Yosemite to give Macs a try, the Yosemite experience is not enjoyable, at all.
Everything is now so 'laggy', so much latency in every mouse move, selection, typing, etc...., everything. Try selecting a file while the Finder window is painting and the file lines jump up or down, 5 or 6 tries is the probability of actually getting the right file selected. Scrolling, what a nightmare, have to think Scrolls ahead, that is, attempt scroll down and wait until something happens if it ever does, because if you don't wait the window will scroll up and down catching up to all the scrolls being tried, and trying to stabilize that means more scroll commands queued up to act on, and..... will it ever scroll to where I need it? Just wait, either for the Scroll storm to subside or something to happen is the best choice.
So, obviously not a working situation. In any case, reading through these forums I see where EtreCheck is recommended and I've downloaded and run it. My results are below, and, with all the red marked lines. I'm pretty sure there are some issues to resolve but I don't know what to interpret from it. I did see where deleting .plist files and rebooting allowed Yosemite to recreate them and that solved performance issues for some. But, not willing to delete these many without some guidance and certainly not knowing whether it will do any good.
A minor note, Parallels was shutting down during EtreCheck run, so the 100% cpu listed may be a red-herring.
    Thanks for any help,
    KWL

  • Graphics nightmare after Yosemite upgrade on Macbook Pro and iMac

I have upgraded my 2013 iMac and my 2012 Macbook Pro Retina to Yosemite.
I am getting endless graphics glitches and crashes on both machine on all programs.
I've attached a screen shot from my Macbook Pro today.
I have updated the NVIDIA drivers on both machine and no difference.
Any help appreciated as I don't want to revert back to Mavericks (which was perfect)
    Thanks

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Adata sp900 sdd 128-GB ssd, optibay optical drive to replace superdrive, and 16 GB upgrade for macbook pro mid 2012.

    Hello everyone,
Thank you in advanced for all of the support.  This is my first post to the communities.  I just bought a 2.9 GHz core 17 processor MacBook pro mid 2012 13" with 8 GB of RAM and I am in the process of upgrading it.  When I bought the MacBook pro originally, I was told that I would never mac out the performance because I do not do a lot of photo/video editing.  This is true, but I am an academic researcher and tend to multitask often, having 20+ safari tabs open, SPSS (a statistical program), full screen mail app, full screen calendar app, and preview, iTunes open all at the same time.  I often get slow performance and error messages that state low memory.  This is why I am interested in upgrading the laptop.  I am getting ready to go to medical school and I want to have a powerful laptop.  I also want to future proof because I plan on having a dual boot system to mac OS and windows OS.
Because I know I will be maxing out the performance of the computer, I want to take full advantage of upgrades, especially now because the cost of the components is reasonable at the moment.  The following are the proposed upgrades:
    1.  Upgrade my current 8-GB ram (2x4-GB) with 16-GB ram (2x8-GB).  I plan on using crucial RAM.
    Crucial 16-GB Ram: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008LTBJFW/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&coli d=2B1KHELSPJPNN&coliid=IYGJWGQDH8LV0&psc=1
    2.  Replace my optical drive with a hard drive.  I will place a SSD into my current hard drive position and then install my current HDD into the optical drive bay with the optibay optical drive caddy.  I am doing this because I plan to use the SSD as the boot drive and my current HDD as my backup and files drive.  I am putting the SDD into the HDD because I have read it is better to place it in this bay for performance.  I will put the other HDD in the optical drive because the performance of that one will not be as important.
    Adata SSD: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008LTBJFW/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&coli d=2B1KHELSPJPNN&coliid=IYGJWGQDH8LV0&psc=1
Optibay Optical Drive Caddy: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0058AH2US/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&coli d=2B1KHELSPJPNN&coliid=I3GI8MGWAKXY79
    My questions:
    1.  Is the listed RAM appropriate and sufficient for my MacBook pro?
    2.  Is the listed SSD appropriate and sufficient for my MacBook pro?
    3.  Is the listed Optical Drive Caddy appropriate and sufficient for my MacBook pro?
    4.  Is there still a firmware problem that does not allow for SATA 3 (6Gb/s) support in the optical drive?
    5.  Would it be easier to format the new SSD outside of the MacBook using a SATA to USB adapter?
    6.  Does working on any of the listed components void my AppleCare (I plan on keeping all of the original components so I can replace them, if I ever need to see apple support)?
    7.  What is the best way to put Mavericks onto the SSD to make this my boot drive?
    8.  What is the best way to make all of my files remain on the HDD, but link to the SSD with the operating system?
    9.  Has anyone ever successfully upgraded to 16-GB RAM and used their optical drive for a secondary hard drive?
    10.  Is there any miscellaneous advice for this project?
Please feel free to give partial answers.  I know this was a lot of information, but I wanted to be efficient in my post.  I am very appreciative of everyone who will contribute.
    Thank you!

16 GB of RAM is the best you can do.
The optibay HD will null  and void your warranty.

  • OS Upgrade for MacBook Pro 10.4.11

    Hello
Apologies if this question has been asked before but I'm unsure as to the specifics of how much I'm able to upgrade my OS on my MacBookPro at the moment.  My friend's been able to download an OS upgrade from yourselves for around £26, which one am I able to upgrade to? Below is the info about my mac.
Thanks in advance for your help
    Model Name:
    MacBook Pro 15"
      Model Identifier:
    MacBookPro2,2
      Processor Name:
    Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:
    2.16 GHz
      Number Of Processors:
    1
      Total Number Of Cores:
    2
      L2 Cache (per processor):
    4 MB
      Memory:
    2 GB
      Bus Speed:
    667 MHz
      System Version:    Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S2167)
      Kernel Version:    Darwin 8.11.1

To upgrade you must first purchase Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6, available from the Apple telephone order department, 1-800-MY-APPLE in the US for $20.  Then upgrade that on-line to 10.6.8 for free.  You can then go to Lion by also purchasing a download code from that same number for $20 and download Lion, 10.7.5, from the Mac App Store.  If your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion, http://www.apple.com/osx/specs you can skip the Lion step and go directly to Mountain Lion by on-line download for $20.

  • HD and Memory upgrade for MacBook Pro 13" i5.

I just bought an MacBook Pro 13' i5.
    a) Can somebody suggest a HD to replace this? I heard that some HD have good capacity but consume a lot of battery life. I am thinking of 750 gb or 1 Tb - 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm. Budget is around $110.
    b) I want to upgrade to 8 gb memory as well. Any suggestions? Budget is around $80.
    Thank You

    Hi Kevin,
Macsales is a good place for RAM, as is Crucial and Kingston. If you get it elsewhere, make sure it's guaranteed 100% compatible and has a lifetime warranty on it.
If you want to research HDs, TomsHardware and xlr8yourmac are a couple of good sites. For more user reviews, newegg and amazon are helpful.

  • Best SSD upgrade for macbook pro 2011 13"???

Hello all, I have a early 2011 macbook pro with 8gb ram, my question is what is the best ssd to upgrade the hdd from, I know the samsung 830 series is good and is the preferred choice for some people, and the crucial m4 is a good choice too, but has anybody had any hands on experience with these drives and any problems with firmware, lockups etc? I also know about the Intel drives too they are some of the most relaibe,  I want it to be as trouble free as possible haha !
    Thanks

  • Ram upgrade for macbook pro 2011

Hi people, i have a 2011 macbook pro with 4GB RAM ; i7 quadcore processor.   I am planning to upgrade the RAM. I dont really need it because I do not play games anymore neither do I do any video or photo editing, i just use it with xcode mainly. But my question is not whether i need it or not !  I need someone who has done this before to tell me the differences they noticed after the installation. Was there a big difference, small difference, and what was it. I know what more RAM will do. I just need to know if there is a big difference or not from 4 to 8 specificall for the macbook pro 2011. I am running Lion by the way. If someone could suggest some websites were i can buy the RAM at cheapest price that would be splendid. Thanks !!

    macsales.com
I've bumped my ram up to 8 GB. However, I did that because I used programs like Photoshop and usually have five or more application running at the same time. If what you say is your MBP usage leave it alone you don't need it.

  • Best upgrades for MacBook Pro Late 2011

Hello, searching in the community, only brings me to posts that are from 2012, as newer tech is available, I would like to renew the question and hopefully get some updated comments and suggestions.
    I own a MacBook Pro 15 late 2011 (2,2GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3, matte retina display, Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB, OS X 10.9.5 13F34).
I would like to upgrade to Mavericks and while I'm at it, I'll upgrade the hardware as well (HD and RAM).
I'm a photographer, and I noticed that Lightroom and PS are running slower as I upgraded through the OSs, this is the main reason for my need to upgrade, I would like more speed overall. There are so many choices of SSDs and RAMs on the net, I would love to get some good feedback from this post and maybe boil this down to three upgrade possibilities:
1 The BEST (meaning the top of the line and probably most expensive)
2 The MID (good compromise between price and performance)
3 The CHEAP (the least expensive choice to make the computer increase performance)
I really appreciate all the help I can get from the Community.
    Marco Benvenuto
    P.S.
If by any chance I missed a post that already answered my question, please link it to this one ;-)

I just bought the Crucial M550 CT512M550SSD1!!! Thank you so much for your help
If I could still pick your brain with another question...
    I also have a Mac Pro 2 x 2,26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 6 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC, NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB, OS X 10.9.5 (13F34)
Since there are fast PCI slots available, I was looking to put an SSD in there, but I noticed that the price difference is substantially higher.
I wont need more than 240/256 GB for the MacPro, since I have 2 2TB HDs and some others in there.
My question is: is the performance of the PCI SSDs compared to the regular SDD worth the up-upgrade?
Or should I just get another Crucial M550 (256GB) and put it in the second DVD bay?
I'm thinking to put the RAM on hold for both computers for now, but I probably will get Crucial for both a.s.a.p.

  • Wireless N upgrade for Macbook pro Intel Core Duo (Purchased 8/2006)???

Firstly, I am a little angered that apple has not come out with any directly supported options to allow people with my macbook pro to upgrade to the new wireless N capability.
Therefore I have found a 3rd party option that is being offered by fastmac (http://fastmac.com/ncard.php) that will allow for wireless N wifi.
My only concern is if having this installed (professionally by them or by an authorized reseller, say compusa) would cause my entire applecare warranty to be voided or just the part that covers the wireless card. I could deal with having the wireless card voided as it would be under warranty by fast mac...
Macbook pro intel core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Your warranty is not voided by installing the Airport card. However, any damage that may be caused by the installation of the card would not be covered under the warranty.
Secondly, the Airport Extreme card that supports 802.11n is available as an upgrade kit for Mac Pros. Some Apple dealers may be able to obtain and install the card for you in your computer.

  • Yosemite Upgrade Failed MacBook Pro 8,2

I have troubleshot this guy to death.  I erased and reformated the drive several times.  I have performed a verify and repair (no issues found with disk).  The installer gets stuck at 15 and 14%  I opened the installer log and the last step performed is Extracting file:///System/Installation/Packages/Base System Resources.pkg.  It eventually follows with the following error message: disk queue stuck, last operation: (null).  It will repeat the disk queue message several times and eventually will try to extract the above file and then repeat with disk queue stuck message.
I initially thought it was the hard drive but the check shows no issues.  The only known issue with the macbook pro is a battery that needs to be replaced.
Right now the MacBook is dead and in a install loop.  I have let it sit for hours and it will not go past the messages above.
Please reply with any thoughts on how to resolve this issue.
MacBook Pro has 8 Gigs of Ram and 500 Gig factory Sata drive.
    Thanks!

There may be a problem with Apple's servers, then. It sounds as if you've a late 2011 or later machine? Those would have shipped with Lion.
If I were you, I'd give it a day and see if the servers will co-operate. If you access to another Mac, you could always download Yosemite, quit before it begins installation, have a 8GB+ USB flash card and download DiskMaker X to create a bootable installation drive.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Enquire on Ram Upgrade for Macbook Pro 15.4inch (2010)

I encounter lag in my new macbook pro hence i decided to upgrade my ram(My current Ram is 4GB).
    1. What is the maximum ram it can support?
    2. I search online, there are 2 kind of ddr3 ram: 1066MHz and 1333MHz. Which one can my macbook pro support? And which one is better?
    3. Will upgrading Ram myself void the warranty?
    4. How much different is the performance for 4GB and 8GB?

What you really need to do is open Activity Monitor then click on the Memory tab at the bottom to observe how your RAM is being used. Do this after a typical period of your heaviest usage of the computer. See this article about interpreting the information: Mac OS X- Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor.
You should supplement the information from AM by opening the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and at the prompt enter 'top' followed by RETURN (omit the quotes.) See the following:
Understanding top output in the Terminal
The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.

  • 16gb Upgrade for MacBook Pro v1,9?

I know its compatible, but I've read articles that say its bad for the motherboard.
I wanted to know if thats true?
    -Thank You

Are you sure that's not a model 9,1 instead of 1,9?
If it's a 9,1 - a 15" mid-June model - then, yes, you can install and use up to 16GB of RAM. It's not bad for the motherboard at all and you'll be able to keep a lot of memory-hungry apps open at one time.
Go to the Crucial website and use their System Scanner tab to determine which upgrade paths you can take. You'll need 2 x 8GB 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.

  • Upgraded 2012 MACBOOK PRO 2.6Ghz 8GB RAM 750 GB an alternate for RETINA MBP 15 or NOT?How good is its potential, reliability ?

I am a student and an aspiring filmmaker.I am also into digital cinematography (Canon 550D) and now will be venturing into editing. I am in DIRE NEED of help
I have a few problems regarding the purchase of Macbook pro.I live in Kolkata(India).I have been waiting for the past 1 and a half years to buy a Mac but after the release of Retina Macbook pro 15.I am left confused. Its near unupgradability and unreparibility rumors, delayed delivery, and 1st generation hardware issues especially the lack of Optical drive made me reconsider my decision of buying one.
I want to know whether I can go for the top model of Non Retina - 2.6Ghz 8GB RAM 750 GB 1 GB Nvidea as an alternate choice for Retina MBP pro or NOT ?
1.I wanted to buy the Retina Base model. Though it is very recently launched and there is a big risk buying it because they say it is unrepairable and unfixable as 'everything is glued into the motherboard' dialogue scares me. Something goes wrong after purchase and they send it back to US, is what the Apple officials said. Moreover they don’t keep one on a demo at Apple stores in kolkata. I have searched almost everywhere and have been to many resellers in my city but no use.
NOW,I am very sceptical about custom ordering a Macbook 15 non retina with High-Res 1680X1050p from US.I don’t know how much custom duty or expenses I have to pay and is it safe or not. Time is also a factor. Sadly, I have to buy one in Kolkata (my city) it seems.
    2. I am opting for Macbook Pro 15,2.6 Ghz,8GB RAM. Buying it for the sole purpose of editing(audio, video, photos).I need something which is fast along with a good screen size. My original decision was to buy the 17inch but after the launch of Retina and the upgraded 15 inch, I am only looking forward to the upgraded models. Many say 13 inch is fast, but it features a dual core with a maximum of 2.9Ghz clockspeed. I on the other hand want a quad core i7 with good upgradability options and a good screen size. The 13 inch may be a favorite for many, but I want nothing less than a 15 inch. One good option I get with non Retina 15 is its upgradability, while many say Retina MBP 15 can be made upgradable in future but that time is yet to come and by the time the whole web becomes ‘retina friendly’ and all applications supporting its 2880X1800 resolution, I may end up waiting only. Yes the picture quality remains unbeatable when compared to Retina Pro and it will always be. Though friends, I am a student, I want something which is fast, can run almost anything and future dependable. Retina Mac book Pro in India is 2799 USD - Base model. I cannot pay that amount just for the screen. As far as speed is concerned, I plan to get an OWC SSD and a 16 GB OWC RAM in the future resulting in greater speed when comparing the configuration with Retina 15.That problem is solved.
My problem here is this: The web is filled with reviews and videos of Retina Macbook Pro and the upgraded Macbook Pro 15 is just no where, if you even find a few videos, they only feature unboxing videos of Macbook pro 15 (i7-2.3Ghz-4GB-500GB-500MB Nvidea).Other videos compare the 2.3ghz model with Retina 15 pro. They are not elaborate like the 15 Retina Pro reviews.
    1. I want to know about the real performance, potential, pros, cons of Macbook Pro 15 (i7 2.6Ghz 8GB RAM 750 GB 1GB Nvidea graphics).
So my question to you is what is your opinion on the 15 inch non retina ? HOW FAST do you think is the new upgraded 15inch non retina i7-2.6Ghz-8GB-750GB model really is ?I have read on many mac forums and seen on a particular youtube video that 15inch 2.3Ghz model takes an alarming 40 seconds to start because of traditional hard drive ! A normal DELL Inspiron starts at 15 secs max with i3+4 GB RAM and this particularly confuses me about the whole quad core processing and stuff and speed when running applications like C6,FCP,Lightroom etc is to be determined in regard to the model I want to buy.
    2. Is it necessary to buy APPLE CARE WARRANTY when buying a laptop from Apple. What are the benefits and how is it different form the normal customer care ?
    3. Please enlighten me on some nice headphones from Sennheizer under 90 USD.I am considering Sennheiser HD 439.I am not a bass freak and I want something to use for listening to voice, loud clear. In short, a headphone for all purpose. I heard the HD 449 is not that good compared to HD 439.They say it is Jazz oriented. Another confusion  !
Finally, If you know anyone who knows about this configuration (15inch 2.6 8GB RAM 750GB) and its performance than please help me out my friends. Any small detail, input, you feel like please let me know. Please help me be sure and satisfied am buying my Macbook Pro very soon and I am awaiting your response.

Well, are you talking about a 750 Hard Drive or SSD?  If SSD (quite expensive) it will certainly be as fast.  One option is to get the smallest HD they have and with the Non Retina you can upgrade the HD to an SSD later or now but save a little money.  Check with iFixit or OWC for instructions.  HD's do take longer to start up and load, but once open, the processor and video work just the same as on the Retina model.  The SSD speed is nice, but really not critical.  So you have to wait a minute for your computer to boot up.  The other big question is you need to find out if the non-retina model will take 16GB of ram.  According to OWC's site, it will, 16GB for 150USD.  Once you get programs open and resident in ram, everything will fly.
