OS Yosemite and FCPX 10.1.4 compatible?
Hi,
I'm currently using OS 10.9.5 and FCPX is working just fine. Is it safe to update? I also use Motion 5.1.2 and Pro Tools 11.3.1 are these fine too?
Dave:)
here, both, FCPX + M5 =: flawless
Was prepared for a 'clean-install', didn't need, just hit 'update', wait half an hour - done.
Perhaps just guts, but feels faster, snappier, better
No ProTools at hand ...........

I am running Yosemite and have just bought Pro Tools Express with the intent to Upgrade to Pro Tools 11. Pro Tools Express is not compatible with Yosemite and will not install. How can I get this done?
I have had this problem for close to a year. I have an Extreme base station, two Airport Express's and multiple G4 Mac's with up to date software. I have spent a huge amount of time trouble shooting, resetting, reapplying software and finally calling Applecare without any help. It would be great to get this problem solved.

I have CS4 Photoshop on my iMac with Mavericks. I am going to upgrade to Yosemite, and don't think it is compatible with CS4. Do I get the full Photoshop CC version for $9.99 a month, or do I need to buy any additional things?
Thanks, I was thinking so. I installed my CS4 from a CD in 2008, and it looks like Adobe has taken another approach to selling their products. I'll be downloading CC Photoshop a little later today.

I just update my Mac operating system from Snow Leopard to Yosemite and now have to upgrade my Epson Printer WF3540 so that it will be able to scan. Will Adobe be compatible with these softwares?
Hi spiritentrep,
What Adobe software are you referring to? Are you using Acrobat? You should have no problems running Acrobat XI on Yosemite, and as along as you have compatible scanner drivers for your Epson, you should be fine there as well.
Best,

is Photoshop 6.0 compatible with Mac OS Mavericks or Yosemite and if yes, how do I install?
Well, probably not what you wanted to hear, but if you come across an older Mac, you should be able to use your old copy.
These are the old system requirements. You want CS6 or better for today's Intel/OSX Macs.
• PowerPC® processor
• Mac OS software version 8.5, 8.6,or 9.0
• 64 MB of RAM* (with Virtual Memory on)
• 125 MB of available hard-disk space (after install)
• Color monitor with 256-color (8-bit) or greater video card
• 800x600 or greater monitor resolution
• CD-ROM drive
And thanks for reporting back, at least I know what happened even if it didn't fix things.

Yosemite and Multiple Displays
I just upgraded a late '12 Mac Mini to Yosemite and am now having some considerable difficulty utilizing TWO Video Output options simultaneously. With 10.8.5 I have been using my Thunderbolt port to adapt to VGA, which goes to a Star-Tech KVM and then to a professional 1920x1080 monitor, while at the same time utilizing the HDMI port to connect to an AJA HA5 convertor (which adapts that video signal to SDI).. Everything worked seamlessly before this upgrade. Using exactly the same hardware my current problem is that my Mini(s) now fails to correctly recognize my monitor that is down the line from the Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor. That monitor now only gets recognized at some pathetically useless lower resolution, while the HDMI video Out seems to work just fine. In fact, the HDMI out is what the Mini now prefers. WHY??? I likely am missing something, I know.... The Displays Preference is sheer misery to navigate between the two and I have thus far failed to get the two monitors (well, one is actually an SDI router with multiple monitors down the line... and that is from the HDMI Out, which gets converted) to work the same way twice after a re-start. I spent a few hours feeling helpless today. Tomorrow I will do the VRAM reset that I saw as the only sincere Apple solution on an earlier Discussion Group from November (forgot to do that today), but I am not so hopeful. Anyone?
fyi...
I paid up for the Advanced Docking Station, and found the T400's CD- drive is not compatible.
http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/b...
Also, I bought this computer because it is quiet. The Advanced Dock is NOISY.
Lenovo support was NOT helpful with these issues. They should disclose incompatibilities and issues like noise upfront. The t400 is marketed as a quiet computer... And how am I to know the drive bays are not compatible? -
I have a Macbook pro. I recently downloaded Yosemite and once that had downloaded iphoto was not compatible (it had a barred sign across it). So I moved it to the trash bin and went to the app store to download the latest version of iphoto 9.6. However when I get there it says install but when I try and click on it nothing is happening. No pop up comes up, the button does not change to say installing. I do not understand. Please help!
If you're having problems with the App Store you might try this:
1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:
open the Terminal application.
copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
followed by Enter.
launch App Store, login.
2 - select the Debug ➙ Reset Application option:
3 - try again. -
FileVault stalled/failed at 80% after upgrade to Yosemite and choosing to use Filevault
Since upgrade to Yosemite and choosing to use FileVault which has been 10 days now, FileVault keeps saying estimating time remaining. I have run diskutil cs list multiple times and sometimes it says 80% complete and other times it says failed. I've also run EtreCheck multiple times and sometimes it says converting and other times it says failed. System running slow or low on memory since upgrade also. I have a MacBook Pro 15" early 2011, 2 GHz Intel Cor i7, 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 and here is my last EtreCheck report.

When viewing the updated timelines, click on the Viewer to select is, Shift-Z will "fit to window". Be sure you're not viewing them larger than you did before. Also, delete all render files.
The only other thing I can think of, is that your hardware is older and Yosemite is taxing it. FCPX will degrade image quality so it can get smoother playback on occasions. But when you stop playback and are parked on a single frame, you'll see the full resolution. This could be happening also. What are your Mac's specs?
BTW, video noise is very, very difficult to get rid of. You can improve it, but short of something like the very expensive (and very long rendering) Neat Video plugin, video noise is something you mostly live with, if it is too drastic in the image. -
I just upgraded to Yosemite and I cannot open Parallels. I am clicking on it and nothing happens.
What version of Parallels are you using? I received a notice that 9 is compatible, but must upgrade to latest version. To take full advantage of Yosemite they recommended purchasing an upgrade to Parallels 10. I have the latest 9 version, with XP installed and it is working fine (if I must use Publisher!)

I updated to Yosemite and now I can't open my YNAB finance app. There is a question mark in the Dock where the App should be and when I hover over the question mark it does say YNAB but I can't open it. When I double click on the question mark nothing happens. Has the link to YNAB been broken with the update? Has this happened to anyone else?
Check the Application folder.
If it is not there, contact YNAB Finance for a OS X Yosemite compatible version of the application.

I purchased Lightroom for use on a MAC using the new operating system of Yosemite, and it crashes every time it tries to open. I have removed and reinstalled it, but it does not help. Is this program mac compatible? How can I get it to work?
This should not be so difficult, and really does not require a screenshot, or a chain of a dozen email.
The message says “Lightroom quit unexpectedly. Click report to send a report to apple.” There is no error number or any other message. That is it.
It has been installed, removed and reinstalled.
IT DOES NOT OPEN.
How do I resolve this. I have now spent hours on this issue and I am in the same place. -
I upgraded my mid 2007 IMac to Yosemite and it has been running very slowly since then. I have 3GB of ram. Has this been a problem for anyone else?
Your iMac year and model is low on RAM.
3 GBs is really not enough RAM to operate your Mac under OS X Yosemite OR Mavericks smoothly and efficiently.
New Macs now ship with 8 GBs of RAM as minimum, base installed amount of RAM.
Your Mac model can take a maximum amount of 6 GBs of RAM.
I strongly recommend purchasing and installing the necessary RAM amount to meet the 6 GB RAM total.
If you live in the U.S. , Correct, compatible and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
OWC (macsales.com) has the proper RAM module or kit needed to get your Mac to the 6 GB RAM total limit.
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/5300DDR2S6GP/
RAM is user installable and is, relatively, easy to install be newbie and novice Mac users.

The Quicken issue has been a hot topic in the Quicken forum as well as many others. Intuit did not provided an updated Quicken when Lion came out. I believe that within the past month Intuit has announced a version that does work in Lion, I looked into it, but was not impressed; there were some technical issues that prevent me from using it (don't recall the details though). Fortunately, I found out about the Quicken mess when Lion came out, and like many users, migrated the quicken data files over to a common format that could be imported into a number of new financial apps like iBank. Intuit lost a lot of Mac users over this.
As for Excel and Word, you have to buy Microsoft's newest version of Office on Mac to be compatible. -
