OS10.4 on MacPro 2x2.8 Quad-Core

Hi,
I just get my New MacPro 2x2.8 Quad-Core.
Question:
~Am i posible to install OS 10.4 in one of my Partition Internal Disk? That's because one of my hardware driver are only support 10.4!
~The Startup Disk of OS 10.4 that i swap from my G5 able to boot it from my new MacPro?
Thanks.

...is that really hard to answer?
Ray, I also answered you when I said:
No. Macs can only install and boot from the operating system they shipped with and newer.
Is there some part of that series of two sentences you don't understand? That was my initial response. Your Mac shipped with 10.5. In what way is 10.4 newer than 10.5? It is not. Plain, and simple. Logically you should have been able to infer what I meant when I said that.
And no, Boot Camp won't let you run 10.4.
Edit:
And I have every reason to be frustrated, when you ask the same question over again, when I've already answered it once. If you wanted me to clarify what I meant when I said newer, or find out if 10.4 was newer than 10.5, I would have answered. But no, you persisted to act as if I gave you no answer whatsoever!

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)
Try trashing them in Safe Mode, reply if that doesn't help.

  • Bay 1 or bay 2 when installing a 120gig SSD Boot drive with 10.8 into a MacPro 3.2Ghz Quad core ?

Im about to install a 120gig SSD into a MacPro 3.2Ghz Quad core. It shipped with a 1TB Hitachi Ultrastar HDD Sata III, that runs 10.7 and is the boot disk running form bay #1. I plan to run 10.8 on the new SSD and use that as the boot disk.
Should I swap over the Hitachi HDD and SSD so that new SSD boot drive is in bay #1 ? If so am I correct that it would be okay to download and install Mountain Lion on the SSD using bay #2 first and then swap them over once installed ?

Thanks. FYI the planned build is this...
Bay 2 - BOOT DRIVE. 120gig SSD running OS 10.8 plus all apps (although not sure whether to wait a while regarding upgrade to 10.8 ? )
So far Im quite happy with 10.7.3 and the machine seems very stable
Bay 1 - 1TB HDD running OS 10.7.3 (so can boot from this HDD disk if required to should the SSD fail (if or when ). This is disk already running 10.7.3 as boot disk now.
Bay 3 & 4 - On horizon...    x2 1TB Western Digital Black Caviar HDD set up with RAID '0' stripe. Not sure on whether to use a RAID 0 or not yet....    Might just go with one 2TB drive... TBC.
BACKUP:  3tb external HDD or Synology DS411j NAS drive
So from what I understand once I've installed the OS on to the new SSD along with any apps, use Carbon Copy Cloner to make an fresh image before I use the system...    is that correct ???

Specifically, you must have the following to update to Mountain Lion:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)

All Mac Pro's ever made have shipped with gigabit ethernet.  The last non-gigabit tower desktop Apple made was the very first generation PowerMac G4's back in 1999.
Similarly, all Time Capsules have been gigabit ethernet as well - never been one that was not.

  • ESATA adaptor for MacPro 3.2 Quad-Core?

I have a Quad-Core Mac Pro tower with only Firewire 800/400 ports.  How can I increase my connectivity?  Is there an eSATA adaptor that I can add to my computer?  I work with FCP 7.0.3 and it's too slow with an HD project with Firewire 800.  How do I improve it?
    Thanks!

You should be  able to add an eSATA card to your Mac Pro.  I did for mine.  OWC hasa a bunch.  Follow this OWC link for a sampling of the kinds of cards that could be used.
Note, be aware that not all cards will fully work with all external enclosures due to the interactions of their drivers and the enclosure electronics.  For example, I had a card that wouldn't remount the drive in my enclosure if I previously unmounted it.  Only reboot would allow a remount.  But I got a different card that solved that problem.
Depending on which model and year your mac pro is there is the possibility of using a cable plugged (internally) directly into your machine.  See this link.

  • FCS2 (FCP6.0.1) using ProRes on a MacPro 3ghz DP Quad Core - beta products?

Just wondering if anyone else is suffering at the hands of FCS2 on a new Intel.
We have just bought the biggest machine Apple offer, with FCS2 as a clean install. The project is being cut in ProRes, and is causing us nightmares.
Constant "out of memory" errors, super frequent crashes and now the system is refusing to find the SmoothCam plugin. We have reinstalled FCS2 already, and it still does not find it.
Our old G5 edit suite is also running FCP 6.0.1, and thankfully is no where near as buggy, but the Intel workstation is dragging the project backwards.
I have repaired permissions, reinstalled the software, cleaned the caches, deleted the preferences. The only thing I have not done is format the hard drive, and start again. Any other tips before I nuke the system?
    Cheers
    Alister

ok, I have rebuilt the machine from scratch. reformatted and started again. installed all updates and such.
opened existing project, and rendered, and the whole thing has gone south again. maybe not where I thought the issue was.
I then changed the timeline from ProRes HQ (ProRes crashed just as badly) to anything else, and all works fine. so far I have tried Photo JPEG, Apple Intermediate, 8 bit Uncompressed and they all render, play and edit fine - even though the source footage is still ProRes HQ....
    curioser and curioser.
I havent bothered swapping out the RAM yet, as this seems to be identifiying the source of issue.
So, I guess I just sit back and wait for an update???
    Cheers

  • Can I install Windows 7 64-bit on my mid-2007 dual quad core "Clovertown"?

    Hi all,
I want dearly to install Windows 7 64-bit on my MacPro, but the only online compatibility information says bootcamp 3.1 for 64-bit works with "early 2008" Macs and not "mid-2006" Macs. I'm stuck in between, for I purchased a mid-2007 MacPro with dual quad core Clovertown processors, which are 64-bit. I'm unsure though if I will run into problems trying to use Bootcamp 3.1 in this case (I have Snow Leopard as well). I've called Apple support several times and they basically say they are not sure, but don't see why it wouldn't work. Any thoughts from the group?
    Cheers,
    Ben

    “Select CD-Rom Boot Type:_”
If you get this error when trying to install windows 7 64bit on your Mac, then follow this guide.
    Steps:
    0 - create 3 folders c:\windows7iso c:\windows7exe c:\windows7dvd
1 - download this .exe file and put into c:\windows7exe
    http://sergiomcfly.googlepages.com/oscdimg.exe
(there was no web site home page to link to)
2 - put the windows 7 .iso you downloaded from ms into c:\windows7iso and unzip the contents with imgburn
    http://fileforum.betanews.com/browse/SystemUtilities/CD/DVDWriting
3 - move .iso file out of c:\windows7iso
4 - open a dos prompt in c:\windows7exe and type exactly as shown (Or copy/paste):
    oscdimg -n -m -bc:\windows7iso\boot\etfsboot.com c:\windows7iso c:\windows7dvd\windows7dvd.iso
Now burn the windows7dvd.iso file to a DVD and proceed to install windows 7.

  • 8-Core vs Quad-Core for Adobe After Effects

With AfterEffects running native on Intel, how much difference will it make to run AE on an 8-core MacPro vs the Quad-core?
    Thanks!

Without specifically knowing AE, it's behaviours and requirements, it's hard to say. However, generally speaking the ability to saturate 8 cores is dependent on two things…
    1) Mac OS X. The performance of Mac OS X and its handling of multi-threaded applications is all important. While Tiger does a decent job of this you'll find that Leopard will put it to shame in this regard. If you actually monitor your core saturation during processing you'll notice that many application, which includes the like of iTunes etc, won't simultaneously saturate all cores. What they'll actually do is saturate one core at a time sequentially. Funnily I find that multi-threaded PowerPC applications/Rosetta saturates all cores very well.
    2) Data source and destination. Where your data is coming from and going to, obviously with CPU processing in between, is a hugge consideration. For instance, if data must come and go from hard disk you might well find that this will be you bottleneck. This also goes for RAM. How much data must come and go from the processors is all important as this will result, or not, in the processor cores waiting for data or not. If they're waiting they won't saturate.
Obviously there are things you can do in this regard to minimise your data bottlenecks such as using RAID and optimal RAM installations (I'd recommend anyone going with 8 cores go with a minimum 8GB - 4 x 2GB in Slots 1/2 - RAM)
Ultimately, unless you know how efficient AE is in the multi-threaded and its data handling stakes you might well find a huge benefit by going with 8 cores. On the other hand, you could also be wasting your money. My advise would be to call Adobe and ask them. Additionally, find someone with AE and a quad-core MP and watch the core saturation for yourself. I'd use MenuMeters…
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17713
… set to update as fast as possible for this to see what's going on.
I get the feeling the biggest benefit, as others have noted, will be more efficient multiple application processing/multi-tasking rather than single application processing. Until it gets into oswers hands it's hard to really say for certain.

  • Premiere does not play well on MacPro 2x2.8 Ghz Quad Core and 10.10.1

We've been having problems with Premiere Pro CC v8.1 Caravan on our MacPro 2x2.8 Ghz Quad Core running 10.10.1. We get hard crashes, etc. Disk Warrior finds two Adobe related rsrc files damaged:
    File: "Localized.rsrc"
Detected that the resource header is damaged and cannot be repaired
    Location: "Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Creative Cloud/Utils/AdobeAAMDetect.plugin/Contents/ Resources/English.lproj/"
    File: "Localized.rsrc"
Detected that the resource header is damaged and cannot be repaired
    Location: "Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/AdobeAAMDetect.plugin/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/"
Might these be related to the hard crashes? Should we delete them, and if so, how should we delete them? What else should we try?
    Many thanks

Well, I switched to Chrome and never looked back!

  • Best graphics card for MacPro 5,1- 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon OS 10.6.8

    Hi everyone.
I have a 2011 MacPro 5,1- 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. 32GB RAM OS 10.6.8 with the stock ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card.
When I output/process/convert video through Quicktime or iMovie or Adobe Premiere or VisualHub (not always, but usually WS multi-pass H264, best quality), it seems to take forever.
Currently (as I type this) outputting a 2 hour movie made of 14 clips of 852x480 30fps 44KHz movies to a 29.97 multi-pass H264 48KHz file with Adobe Premiere CS 5.5.2- is coming up on 10 hours.
I would like to upgrade to a better graphics card with better VRAM and processing power. I realize that being on OS 10.6.8 may create a few problems. I'm willing to upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 if need be. Though I'd hate to lose the carbon programs that I still use (like VisualHub).
I've heard that nVidia is the way to go, but I'm not sure which card to get. The Quadro FX 4800 looks promising (and expensive).
    Anyone have any insight?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Dual or triple boot until you are sure if Lion or ML works.
GTX 570 2.5GB VRAM $320 from MacVidCards is one way to go, even GTX 680 (but that does require 10.8.x)
    Nvidia 4000 (I thought I read Nvidia has a 5000 Quadro) not the older 4800. Amazon has Q4K $800.

  • Is it ok to leave my old photos in Aperature and start with new photos in Lightroom?  MacPro with 2 x 2.26 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor, 6 GB memory, 1 TB harddrive.

Is it ok to leave my old photos in Aperature and start with new photos in Lightroom?  MacPro with 2 x 2.26 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor, 6 GB memory, 1 TB harddrive?
Or should I transfer them to Lightroom?

That's really a personal preference. Support for Aperture is coming to an
end and you may find yourself unable to get to theses photos in the future
in the case of a HDD crash if you can't get the software to reinstall.
Faced with that prospect, I would probably put it on my list of things to
do when I am feeling really bored and looking for something to amuse myself
with. You can export your Aperture photos in their original format to a
folder on your desktop and then import them into Lightroom. Use the copy
option on the import to save the photos in a new folder within your
    Lightroom catalog.

  • Perl on quad core MacPro - 32 bit or 64 bit?

I am trying to run a perl script on a very giant file. I know I am insane to do so, but the code was given to me and it is easier than re-writing it. This is a scientific research project.
The problem is that I run out of memory. I think it is happening because perl is a 32-bit application, because I have 6 GB of RAM on the a new quad-core MacPro, and I have been seeing plenty of free memory as this thing runs over several days.
How can I tell if perl is a 32-bit app? If it is, does anyone know if there is a 64-bit version or if I can compile one? I have only seen instructions for 64-bit PPC versions, but I am willing to try those on my Intel machine if I can verify that it will work out to 64-bit.
For what it is worth, I have already run file on some of the perl libraries, and here is what I found:
    macpro> file /System/Library/Perl/5.8.6/darwin-thread-multi-2level/CORE/libperl.dylib
    /System/Library/Perl/5.8.6/darwin-thread-multi-2level/CORE/libperl.dylib: Mach-O universal binary with 2 architectures
/System/Library/Perl/5.8.6/darwin-thread-multi-2level/CORE/libperl.dylib (for architecture i386): Mach-O dynamically linked shared library i386
/System/Library/Perl/5.8.6/darwin-thread-multi-2level/CORE/libperl.dylib (for architecture ppc): Mach-O dynamically linked shared library ppc
So it is i386, which I assume is 32-bit?
    Thanks,
    Clay
Too many to list Mac OS X (10.4.9)
Too many to list   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The file is being read line by line and entered into a hash, and old entries purged after a while. However, due to the nature of the script, many things remain in the hash, causing lots of memory usage growth.
The errors I received were malloc failing somewhere in the perl library. I was monitoring the memory usage, and at some point hit a bug in the Activity Monitor was it was showing that I was using 16,000,000 TB (yes, terabytes) of real memory. I kept a screenshot of this to show off my cool super-mac to my friends.
I solved this my backing up the Mac OS and installing 64-bit Ubuntu linux on the machine. Not at all optimal, but the best I could see to do until 10.5 comes out. Hopefully, this will be done running by then. Last time, it took 11 days for one trace, and I have 6!
    Thanks for the answers.
