Have the install and other issues been fixed?
I would like to update my software on my 3GS but am still holding out based on the negatives people have been experiencing

(Sorry my English is not so good...;-()
This is not right! My original Iphone 3GS (no JB), recovery (normal or DFU mode) has extreme problems and is not usable!
No phone calls possible! Connection to the network breaks off constantly! No network!
Network settings reset or restart iPhone brings nothing!
Change APN settings - nothing!
Since the update to IOS 4.0 does not receive more Network in the iphone 3GS!

Why is it so hard to find the error in calibrating the software with the correct frequencies??
AND NO, my IOS 3.1.3 hat NEVER a problem... It works find before the Update..
Unfortunately, a downgrade with itunes is not available!

Can't Sync Music after installing OS4 on brand new ipod

Bought a new 8gb touch today, apps all moved over fine but anytime try to sync music manually or automatically, I get message error occured and Itunes shuts down.
Have reinstalled itunes to no avail and tried using a different cable.
Tried to restore to factory settings but still have OS4.
Only thing I have done today is install the update and after reading all the post's here wish I hadnt.

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

IPhone doesn't ring in car with built-in bluetooth with OS4.

I have the iPhone 3Gs...updated completely to the latest OS, but when I updated to OS4, the bluetooth in my Nissan Versa no longer rings. The phone doesn't ring with an incoming call, and the car's bluetooth doesn't ring. The only way I know there is an incoming call is if the radio or cd or auxillary (iPod) is playing, the music shuts off and the display says telephone. If there is nothing playing on the speakers, there is no notification of an incoming call.
I have deleted the phone from the car's program and re-added it, but it doesn't change anything. Is there anyone else with this same problem?
It's very frustrating and I'm waiting for a fix.

ohh boy! i hope i wont have this problem when i get my iphone 4 next week but when i purchased the ipod touch i couldnt even synch it with my friends similar ipod (when we both had bluetooth on).
i went to a apple store and the genius guy told me the bluetooth only synch with apple stuff - well that was incorrect because i still cant synch with my friend´s ipod nor my home mac mini pc!
that is why i always had nokia phones so far, because i rely a lot on bluetooth (photo and music transfer) but lately i found a nice ebay deal for an ipad and an iphone 4 ...so i took the chance on getting them but i find now that they dont synch!!!
i hope the latest upgrade OS4 will solve all this (maybe i wont even upgrade and try it first with old OS from factory) because i need to listen to my ipod itunes and make/receive calls handsfree from my sony xplod bluetooth car radio.
no matter how old is my poor 2001 renault clio 1.2 this is not a reason for apple not to dwell on this worldwide problem - the only option left is to plug a 3.5 male/male cable from headphones to aux!

I have attempted to upgrade os4 to os7. At the end, it threw an error that i had to turn off "Find my iphone" on my phone, which seems to be impossible at that stage as i could not access beyond the upgrade screen.
I thin chose to set up as new iphone, but icloud has taken an old expired email address for which i do not know the password. icloud will not recognise my current itunes email and password, so i now have os7 but am unable to restore from my itunes back up.
Desperately need help please... Any help appreciated

If you don't know your password, don't know your security questions and don't have a rescue address or don't receive a reset email, you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your security questions for you.
If you are in a region that doesn't have international telephone support try contacting Apple through iTunes Store Support.

Mystery Birthday Calendar with OS4 Update

After I updated to OS4, I found that all my birthday entries appeared twice in my calendar views on the iPhone. Investigating further, I found that when I viewed all my calendars, I had two categories of calendars. First, I had "[email protected]" which correctly showed the three calendars that I sync over Mobile Me (including my birthday calendar, synced from iCal). Second, however, I had a second calendar category/group titled "Other" that showed one calendar "Birthdays."
I have unchecked this second Birthdays calendar to remove the duplicate entries from my calendar views, but I cannot figure out how to remove this "Other" calendar completely. This "Other" calendar group and the second "Birthdays" calendar appears neither on Mobile Me on the web or in my iCal.
Suggestions?

The "Other" Birthdays calendar is a new feature and genertaes the birthdays using the data in your iPhone contacts. It's the same as the Birthdays calendar in iCal and Outlook.

Problems with Iphone 3G after OS4 install...

Was super excited about the OS4 release, so I updated iTunes, and installed OS4 to my iphone. Since the backup was taking forever (6hrs), I just left it overnight. This morning when I picked it up, there was a message on my computer screen that an error occurred. I took the iphone, and see that the system now says 4, and I have the camera app, but not the multi-tasking function.
Any thoughts on what is going on? How can I fix it?

when trying to install os4 on my ihpone 3G, the back up sticks at about 10%, stays like that for hours & eventually i give up & turn it off, if i back up normally, it takes about 20mins.

My computer restarted while I was updating my software from OS4 to OS5 and now my ipod is froze in a way that it shows the symbol that I should connect it to itunes. I connected it but itune is not recognising it. I have tried to reset but it nothing.

See if placing the Ipod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so yu can restore the iPOd.. For recovery mode:

3rd gen iPod touch reports "No Podcasts" after OS4 upgrade;955 really there

I upgraded to OS4 last night. Now when I go to Music > Podcasts, it shows "No Podcasts". It also has a "Now Playing" arrow that goes to the podcast I was last listening to, which still works! When connected to iTunes the device lists 955 podcasts actually on it. Any ideas how to get to them with OS4?

Now to answer my own question at a pragmatic level:
I resynched the iPod with iTunes, during which a good deal of processing occurred. After that, the podcasts reappeared on my iPod.

I did try yesterday but did not realise at that time that itunes had correct apple id. Hopefully this is a good thing!

I have looked at icloud.com/find numerous times and my iPad is not showing at all (see picture below). As I said I did turn off 'Find My iPhone' on my iPad and then erase all settings and data before taking it to the repair centre.
The gentleman at the repair centre said that the device won't restore because "Apple thinks that 'Find My iPhone' is still turned on" (I'm repeating what he said).

Upgrade to os4 - A way to get lost information - CONTACTS and TEXTS

I have been spending hours, and hours, trying to figure out what happened to this phone. I upgraded to os4, and when I did, I lost everything (contacts, texts, pics, apps, etc.), eventhough I backed up everything on a weekly basis. Not sure where Apple dropped the ball on this major issue. I have been looking for hours to find a fix. I came across a post that was helpful in finding a way to solve some of my problems, including FINDING MY LOST CONTACTS! I have to manually enter them into my phone again, but at least I have them! Like, me I am sure many of you don't memorize phone numbers anymore. I have just added to a post I found by Somebody2 on another forum (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11831613), as a starter, and added to it, to give more specific directions. I am extremely thankful; to have found this! I am still looking to find a way to get back my lost pictures, but that may be a lost cause. Hopefully this can help some of you out there, like it did me(....sigh of relief). Anyway, here is a way to find those lost contacts and texts:
Here are the main steps, assuming that you did backup your iPhone using iTunes recently:
1. Use the following tutorial to install FireFox with SQLite Manager add-in and point it to your backup folder:

(**when following these directions, make a copy of the backup folder, and paste it on your desktop to make the overall process a little easier)
**2. Once you have opened SQLite, Click on the options (hammer/screwdriver icon) at the top. Change the "Default file extension for SQLite files" to mddata then click OK. Next, Click on the word "Directory" at the top, just under the menu bar. Then select choose "Select default directory". Choose the most recent folder inside the backup folder you copied to the desktop, then click OK.
**3. Now the more time consuming part (took me at least 30 minutes). Beside the word "Directory" you can now choose files from a drop down menu. The easiest way I found to do this is to click on the 1st one, then click go. You can continue down the list using the arrow key, and click go each time you go to a new file... As you do this, you will see the left side change. Sometime it has nothing (No directory found), and other times there is a list of menus (master table, tables, views, indexes, triggers). I found mine in the 38...range out of the hundreds of files.
**4. Continue to go through the files until you see "ABGroup" under the tables menu as an options (it does not show up under the "master table" menu, just under "tables").
5. Once you have found "ABGroup", Click on the "Execute SQL" tab in the SQLite Manager and copy/paste the following:

SELECT First, Last, Organization, Note, value as Phone FROM ABPerson, ABMultiValue WHERE ABMultiValue.property=3 AND ROWID=record_id ORDER BY First

Then click "Run SQL" button.
You should now see the list of all contacts backed up from your iPhone. You can also highlight all rows with the mouse and the SHIFT key, then right-click and select "Copy Rows as CSV for Excel", then paste them to Excel so that you can print your contacts spreadsheet.
NOTE: You can do the same thing for finding text messages. The only difference, is that you want to look for the word "message" under the tables menu instead of abgroup.
I have never posted here, but this was a HUGE help to me, so I thought I would try to share a more detailed way to get these back. I know it's not easy, but IT WORKS!! I am so relieved, and thanks a lot Somebody2!!!!

Can't sync photos, songs to iPhone 3G after upgrade to OS4

I’m using iPhone 3G. Just restored and upgraded to OS4. All my songs, contacts, calendar could be backup to my iPhone after the upgrade. Then, I downloaded some eBooks with my iPhone. But when I tried to sync the iPhone with iTunes 9.2 one day after the upgrade, no new eBook records shown on iTunes, no calendar updated on Outlook and on photos were sync to iPhone after the backup process. It seems that iTunes only performed backup but no data synchronization was done.
Can anyone help me? I can’t transfer songs, photos to iPhone. Please help. Thanks.

I have a similar, but slightly different issue. Also on an iPhone 3G. Some of my stuff synced, but not all of it. I've got my apps, my contacts, calendar, eBooks, and my pictures, but not my TV shows, movies, music, etc. And when I try to add them back into iTunes (File: Add file to Library), then select them to sync by selecting my iPhone under Devices in iTunes and clicking the Sync Movies box, then selecting the movies I want to sync, and clicking Apply... it says, "The iPhone "My iPhone" is synced with another iTunes Libary. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes Library?"
I don't! And my iPhone is not synced with another iTunes Libary. What can I do?

Handsfree is not working after upgrade to OS4

I have urgraded my iPhone(3g) to OS4, now my original handsfree is not functioning well of and No more volume control, I can't take up any calls now , can't forward the songs as well..
I have checked it and cleaned it.. it looks fine

Maybe you could be more specific about what is happening and what you have done to attempt to resolve the issue.
Have you rebooted the iPhone or tried a resync with your computer?

Quicktime will not load Apple iPhone OS4 Keynote from Safari

(iMac) I have been trying to watch the OS4 keynote off the apple website for a few days now. When i press watch it loads up quicktime and all i get is a white background with a quicktime logo with a loading dotted bar at the bottom. It does this with the HD version as well. I have a good broadband connect and i have already tried and archive and install and also removed codecs from the system library to no avail. I can watch the january iPad announcement but only in standard format and not the HD format.
I can however watch the OS4 keynote on my macbook which has many of the same codecs as my iMac and it loads the video perfectly. Even in the glorious HD quality without any delays.
I am completely stuck and i am wondering if anyone else is having the same issue?

SMS does not open in iphone 3g after installing os4

After installing OS4, the SMS box does not open for hours. I end up trying 80-100 times before it opens. I have tried restoring the phone and re-installing. Also notified apple help desk. I bought this phone in India for USD800. The so called upgrade has rendered my phone useless. Never again will ever buy an Iphone. Feel like smashing this trash on jobs' head......

It's funny how multitasking doesn't work on the 3G iPhone with iOS 4, but it works PERFECTLY on a jailbroken iPhone running OS 3 (and with previews!) Pathetic.

Photo rotate not present in os4?

I installed OS4 to my iphone thismorning, and everything is working okay. However, i read that you can rotate pictures in the Camera Roll, but the only options i have when i tap are "Email Photo", "MMS", "Assign to Contact" and "Use as Wallpaper".
Am i missing something?

Hotmail not being received automatically after OS4 update

I just realised after turning my iPhone (3GS with OS4) on, that my Hotmail account on the native 'Mail' app has not been retrieving my mail automatically despite the Fetch settings being automatic and never having this issue with the previous OS. I thought turning the phone on and off would fix the problem, but not 7 hours later the same issue re-occured.
Any solutions, I hope this issue gets resolved in the next OS update!
