OS9 Classic app opens in lower Window

Ever since I upgraded to 10.4, whenever I open Now-Contact, which runs in Classic OS9 mode, the program opens, but the window does not come to the front of the screen. I have to Command-Tab to the program to bring the window to the front. Any solutions? Do I post this in a different forum? Thank you.

    Ever since I upgraded to 10.4, whenever I open Now Contact, which runs in Classic OS9 mode, the program opens, but the window does not come to the front of the screen. I have to Command-Tab to the program to bring the window to the front. Any solutions? is this a Now Contact issue? Thank you.

    My first guess is that you have something in the System Folder's +Startup Items+ folder, and it is starting after Now Contact, when Classic and Now Contact start together. The last item to start will get the focus of the system. When Classic is already running and then you start Now Contact, Now Contact is the last item to start, so it gets the focus.
    Questions: When Classic and Now Contact start together, and Now Contact ends up as a "lower window," what program's window ends up being in front? Is that window a Classic program window or a Mac OS X program window? Is the Apple (in the menu bar) blue or the old rainbow stripes after Classic and Now Contact are done starting?

  • Extended Fiori app opens in new window

    Hi,
    When I add my extended Fiori app to the launchpad, it opens in a new window. Is it possible that if I open it, it opens like all the other standard Fiori apps?
    When it opens in a new window, I can't navigate to other fiori apps, or go back to the home screen.
    Thanks,
    R.W.

    Hi Robbe,

  • Mail.app opens behind frontmost window.

    Whenever I launch Mail.app, it opens up behind the frontmost application window, whatever that application happens to be. For example, if I launch Mail by clicking the app in the Finder, Mail opens behind the frontmost Finder window. I'm not sure if this is the expected behavior (I would be surprised if it was), but I would like Mail to open up in front of all other windows, like any other application would. I'm aware that I could write an Applescript, but I'm more interested in finding out what the root cause is.
    Thanks

    Glad it helped. I went that way but somehow I just like Mailappetizer, so am now putting up with the background issue. I think I saw on their website that they are attempting to fix it.

  • How many apps open at once (Windows)?

    Hi all
    Are there any best practice  posts on (Win) workstations with full CS6 or CC and C4D. If you own (or freelance at places with) decent spec HP Z820 20-30+GB RAM etc would you normally have AI, PS, AE & Cinema 4D open at the same time on Windows? Seems a bit much to me but I thought I'd get an idea from you guys?
    If yes, do you often get windows redraw issues? do you change your CPU, RAM allocation etc settings for the task you're doing or just leave it the same as you would if you were just running AE & a web browser,
    Cheers for any feedback

    Only have open what you need at that time. Applications don't take very long to open, so starting and quitting them as needed is not much of a burden---not when you consider that each application left open is consuming resources like RAM and VRAM, which causes all of them to process your work more slowly.
    This is one of the primary recommendations in this set of resources about how to work faster in these applications:

  • Open in low resolution

    My pages documents looked blurry and I noticed that there is a checkbox on the app "Open in Low Resolution" which was checked.
    I unchecked it, restarted pages, and was happy with the result.

    There is a back story: The code for the Macintosh version of InDesign had to be rewritten from scratch for InDesign CC because of Apple's requirement that all code had to be "de-carbonized," that is, rewritten using the Cocoa system calls. It involved millions of lines of code. The effort began in the CS5 and CS6 development timeframe and continued until the release of InDesign CC. There was simply no engineer time available to produce the thousands of lines of Retina code for CS6 at the same time. It could only be done for InDesign CC.
    Bottom line, as told above: Either upgrade to InDesign CC or live with it.

  • Is there anyway to get an App Tab to stay when I close the program then reopen it?...they always disappear when I open a new window etc.

    Is there anyway to get an App Tab to stay when I close the program then reopen it?...they always disappear when I open a new window etc.
    And I thought the whole point of an App Tab was to always have those tabs there no matter what window is open all the time period.
    It's a minor complaint but I would really appreciate the option to permanently have them there.

    I thought that app tabs would be more persistent, like pinning programs to the taskbar in Windows, but this is not the case.
    Instead, once you close a Firefox window, all its tabs and app tabs are lost.
    Essentially, this means that the close button in the upper-left corner of a Firefox window is now a "kill all open tabs and loose all App Tabs without warning++ " button. That is not cool.
    I realize that "Firefox > Quit Firefox" behaves as intended, but many people use the more obvious red close button instead of the menu to close windows on a Mac. And it is easy to forget that the red button is now also an app-tab-death button. I've lost my app tabs many times to this issue. It is an unforgiving user interface decision which hampers the usability of app tabs. Why should I go through the extra clicks of setting up app tabs if I can loose them so easily?
    Ideally, App Tabs could be saved separately from the currently open windows (perhaps create an option to save then to a special Tab Group that opens on startup?). App tabs would be exceedingly useful to me if they weren't so easy to loose.
    On that note, saving Tab Groups would also be a useful functionality.
    ++ You will get a "closing multiple tabs" warning if you have only one window open, and that one window has multiple non-app tabs open, and you have enabled the warning in Preferences. But this too unreliable to help prevent the loss of app tabs.

  • When I open a separate window and start private browsing my main window closes and I lose all of my app tabs

    whenever I open a new window and do private browsing it closes my main window and I loose all of my app tabs. If this is functioning as designed then it is a flaw in the design.

    It is designed that way. When you stop private browsing, all of your other tabs will come back.

  • Apps open in a new window/space.. how do I turn this off so all windows open in "desktop"?

    Whenever I open an app it creates a new space to open the app in. All apps do this, and you can see the windows/spaces by hitting F3; the icons are lined up at the top of the screen. How do I disable this feature so all windows and apps open in the "desktop" space?

  • Opening App in own new Window - Opinions please

    Dear Community!
    I would like to invite you to share your opinions on this idea - foremost in terms of user experience, but also technical implementation:
    Like anybody I always have a number of browser-tabs open, but as an apex user (not developer) I probably have only one apex-app running. So my ideea was, to give the user a stronger experience of working with an Application rather than a website, and therefore open the app in a new window.
    Once in a new window all apex functionalities, navigation etc. work as usual. Only the user can concentrate more on the content and is not distracted by all the other browserstuff around. (After all it's not just "some web site"... ) Also he has full independent controll over the window.
    I have build this in a test scenario and invite you to try everything out.
    With a cookie-controlled checkbox the user can determine, wether he wants it in the first place or not. (Then once allow popups for this site.)
    Now it gets weird:
    I want deeplinking to be possible, so the functionality for the opening process in contained in the page template.
    Also I want, when the user accidentally or willingly returns to the initial browser, and the new window comes out of sight, there should be a button to bring that window back to the front.
    For that, javascript has to store the window object on the page, that opened the new one, so it should stay active. But since to user "doesn't want to use" that "old" window in the browser tab, I have created an overlay region, to cover that entire page up - on the condition, that a new window is beeing opened. Just be feeling this is probably a pretty weird solution, but its working so far (see example above).
    Javascript on every page::
    var newwindow;
    $(function(){
      // when app-page is opened the first time, open new window. after that P0OPEN will be empty:
      if ($v('P0OPEN') === 'Y') {
        var href = 'f?p=&APP_ID.:&APP_PAGE_ID.:&APP_SESSION.::::P0OPEN:',
            winw= window.innerWidth, winh = window.innerHeight;
        // cosmetics for positioning etc.
        var options = 'scrollbars=yes, width='+(winw*.8)+', height='+(winh*.8)+', top='+(winh*.1)+', left='+(winw*.1)
        newwindow = window.open(href, '_blank', options);
        // the button to bring the new window back to the front:
        $('#P0BTNFOCUSW').click(function(){
           if (newwindow && !newwindow.closed) {
               setTimeout(function(){ newwindow.focus(); },100) ;
           } else {
               // if window was closed, start new session:
               window.redirect('&LOGOUT_URL.');
    Maybe its better to have an extra page just for that purpose, but how can I combine that with deeplinking AND the necessity to store the javascript-window-object?
    Another problem unsolved is, that when the user logs out in the new window, that should certailnly disapear. Also, in that case: the window open in the initial tab should change too, that is: redirect to the login screen.
    And probably there are a few more things to be considered...
    So I will be very glad to hear all your oppinions and suggestions of any kind.
    Thanks and greetings,
    Tobi
    (omg!! how can you get the formating for code??) (ok, thanks...)

    Well, nothing wrong with trying and experimenting of course! It'd be interesting to have things react a bit more as a desktop app, but there is not really enough power to do so and that is mostly because of security reasons. Just like the popupblocker. Personally I'd rather not have to tell anyone to fiddle with a (any!) popupblocker. I think you can have a good looking 'app' without it though, and design (or, UI) helps a lot in that regard. I don't mean to place Google on a pedestal here, but I like the simplicity of the browser splashscreen for example. "Here are your app links. Want to open one? Cool, right away!". Want multiple? No issue, hold ctrl and click away. That's just plain basic browser usage and it leaves me the option. They could've also placed the target=blank tag in their anchors, but they didn't. And that's fine.
    I wouldn't necessarily make it more complex than that though - like with auto-popup screens after a login, screening of a window from interaction, dealing with deeplinks.
    I've seen some nice "app"-approaches for apex. I think the coolest are where there is a master app, with icons which open up the other applications. The authentication cookie is shared, the authentication scheme is subscription based. You can deeplink apps but if you don't have a deeplink you go to the splashscreen.
    If you deeplinked then you meant to go there, and not first the splash which pops up something else. If you want to go there then there is a button in each app which will open up the splash app (and if you add target blank in there, in a new window).
    I'd say there is a lot of room for innovation, and anything web is possible. But be careful with those things like popupblockers
    And It's just one opinion of course. I'm sure there are wildly differing ones out there. (Who don't react) You could always try some more UX-UI oriented forums for some feedback in this regard!

  • Mail app opens every email in separate windows on launch

    I can't use my Mail app currently, as every time I launch the app, it starts opening every email I have ever received in cascade windows until the program freezes. Is there a way to reset Mail preferences or something? I don't have Time Machine working currently so that's not an option...

    Nevermind, I fixed it by going to System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars and disabling the Mail app for all my accounts and then opening Mail app. It worked fine, having no accounts there. Then I enabled the accounts with Mail app open. It seems fine now.

  • App opens, won't display windows, crashes

    Machine running 10.4 with all updates. Safari launches. Can view downloads and activity window. I try to open a new window and it acts like it did, but nothing. If I quit, it gives a crash report. I can hit shiftcmdh for home, and it opens a window for about a second then crashes. Happens for all users.
    Tried removing all preferences (user and global). Tried moving the plug-ins folder. Repaired permissions and verified disk. Nothing is working. Any ideas?
    Installed Firefox as a workaround and it works just fine.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    We're not staff, but other Mac users here, asking questions and sharing solutions.
    Until we get your whole crash report, you might want to check for the CT Loader.
    It's a terrible app/plugin that messes up Macs like the plague.
    Did you ever install a customized toolbar? Like a Facebook one? Or for watching sports?
    _Here's how to search and destroy:_
    Close Safari. And look for it in the following locations:
    HD/Library/Application Support/Conduit
    HD/Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
    HD/Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
    HD/Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
    HD/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
    HD/Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/Conduit
    It may not be in every single location, but delete it everywhere, if you find it.
    Restart Safari. Any Better?

  • Apps opening but can't use them, no application window

    I am posting this for a friend of mine who is having a real problem.
    he restarted his MacBookPro and now suddenly he can't use any app. the apps open in his dock, they are in the force quit window. when safari is running; he clicks it but no window opens for him to use it. all apps are doing this.
    he also tryed to repair disk permaissions from the cd, disk utility started but he haad no window where he could get it to chack the permissions.
    anyone know what this could be?

    Still wrote:

    This is the odd part... that booted from a different disk, he experiences the same issue.
    Did he follow this course to Repair Disk...
    Steps for using Disk Utility:
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc or Install Disk 1 that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair.
    If he did that, then I would next try resetting PRAM and NVRAM/PMU reset
    If that fails to help, run Apple Hardware Test:
    1. Disconnect all external devices from your iMac except the keyboard and mouse.
    If you have an Ethernet cable connected, disconnect it.
    2. Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 that came with your iMac.
    3. Restart your iMac and hold down the D key as your iMac starts up.
    4. When the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen appears, select the language
    appropriate for your location.
    5. Press the Return key or click the right arrow button.
    6. When the Apple Hardware Test main screen appears (after about 45 seconds), follow
    the onscreen instructions.
    7. Apple Hardware Test displays an error code if it detects a problem. Make a note of the
    error code before pursuing support options.
