OS9 Premiere v6.0 & Cleaner v5.1.2 freezing system

I've just freed up my G4 Dual 1Ghz due to a newer Mac and wanted it put it to use running Premiere v6.0 and Cleaner v5.1.2 which is currently handled by an even older Beige G3 (with 800Mz processor) but of course has a lot slower bus speed.
The G4 has a clean install of OS9.2.2 and just the above two pieces of software installed. Both launch ok but any attempt to manipulate a video file results in the Mac freezing, although the mouse still moves.
Also (and I've just discovered this while I'm typing this) it looks like I can't view video at all, so am wondering if it's a QuickTime issue. I have installed QuickTime 6.0.2 Just launched Premiere with the video camera attached via FW400 and selected capture, as soon as the video played the Mac froze.
Just checked OSX using iMovie and video captures fine.
Spec:
G4 FW400 Dual 1Ghz
1.5Gb Memory
1 x 128Gb HDD (OS9.2.2 boot)
1 x 330Gb HDD (OSX 10.4.11 boot)
Reason I'd like this to work is for the batch option in Cleaner to convert movies to .WMV files. If there is an OSX version of cleaner then I'm all ears.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 Crashing with rendering, freezing system, and more

    Hello,
I'm having some serious issues with Premiere pro on my late 2013 iMac.
    OSX 10.9.5
    3.2GHz Intel Core i5
    16GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    NVIDIA FeForce GT 755M  1024MB
I'm working in 1920x1080 23.976fps. Media files are from sony FS700 .MTS and Cannon 5DmkIII .mov
Multiple times per day, PP crashes on me. It all started when I was getting really choppy playback which would be accompanied by this error message:
A Low Level Exception has occurred in ImporterMPEG (Importer)
This would soon after lead to the program freezing and me having to force quit the program. After contacting Adobe the first time about this persistent issue, the tech explained to me that it was a "Memory Leak" issue and that there was nothing that could be done. After the support team member ended our chat online before helping me solve my issue, I called support. I provided my case number and this person picked up where the helplessly left me and did the typical Adobe one fix all: He went into the hidden library and cleared all of my preferences, removed any third party plugins, and cleared the files in the root applications Adobe folder, renamed a folder "Adobe.Old" etc.
As I explained to the support team member on the phone, this is not a solution but rather a bandaid until it happens again.
Low and behold it has happened again. This time the support team member had me create a new System Administrator account on my computer thinking that there was a permissions problem with my other account which was conflicting with PPCC2014. While this was a major pain to switch between the new account and any other program that I had set up for day to day work, it allowed me to continue editing and at least (at a less efficient rate) get things done.
Now, while using my new System Administrator account, I am getting terrible crashes that not only stall the program, but force me to hard re-boot my computer. These crashes are accompanied by a terrifying looking screen that I was only able to capture once.
They've only become more intimidating as now I cant even see the program when this happens, but this is the only screen capture that did not turn out completely black.
I'm looking to see if anyone has had any extreme issues like this and if so how they were able to fix it. I've now spent 6+ hours with support and after the last one was told I would receive a personal email follow up by the end of the day (never happened) to take further actions based on the performance after the new account creation.
    I need help. Now.

    Hi John,
First of all, try this: Re: A low level exception occured in: Importer MPEG (Importer)
Next, make sure that if you updated OS X to 10.9.x, or later, you must check the following each time you update: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
    Other things to try:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
    Repair permissions
    Disconnect any third party hardware
Remove QT components from Mac HD > Library > QuickTime
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
    Disable App Nap
    Reboot
Report back if anything here worked for you.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • I had a failure of a dsl modem which inturn destroyed my ethernet port of non isight imac G5.  In attempt to solve the problem I did a clean install of leopard 10.5.4. I am unable to upate to 10.6,.7  or .8 without freezing system network preferences

Dsl modem failure caused malfunction of ethernet port.  In attempt to solve problem I did a clean instillation of  Leopard 10.5.4 and then update to 10.5.5 with access to internet through apple usb to ethernet adapter.  If I attempt to update software to 10.5.6, .7 or .8 it freezes my network system preferences and computer will no longer shut down.  The network connection assistant also no longer sees a connection to the internet throught the usb/ethernet adapter.  I have checked they systerm Tech tool deluxe which shows no problems and also used hard drive utility on instillation disk which found no problems.  Permissions were also checked as well and no problems noted.  Any thoughts as I really like my imac G5.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 (8.2) freezes up constantly on Mac OS X Yosemite

After the latest update (no idea which one but the latest update) Premiere Pro cc just keeps freezing up constantly. There's no indication what brings it up but after different periods of time I just get the apple wheel and the entire program freezes up. I force quit and get the "sorry, a serious problem has occured", blabla. Sometimes it's in the middle of cutting a clip, sometimes it's while trimming. There isn't a single indication what causes it. At first I thought it was only because of using a multicam clip, but that's not the case anymore. I tried reducing memory to other apps, deleting preview files, deleting autosaves, turning off autosave altogether, deleting Adobe Premiere 8.0 preference file, changing permissions, basically everything in this post: Re: Adobe Premiere Pro CC keeps crashing... (Which now also seems totally neglected by Adobe).
    Believe me, there's hardly a thing I haven't tried.
It's getting REALLY frustrating now and it's time something is done about this. Yes I know, "don't just say it's frustrating, explain the problem", but that fase has passed now. I'm paying for this product and it needs to work like it should.
Also I know I'm not the only one who's having these problems.
    My specs are:
    OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
    MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
    2,3 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

One great reason to get a Mac only version of the post. It is never a good idea to post on a Windows post with Mac problems. And when threads get so long and unruly, the team can't focus on the actual issue so it doesn't get the attention it needs.
Now that we have that sorted out...

Definitely do not update Premiere Pro or OS X when in the middle of a project. Wait until it's complete. If you did either or both of these things, you can cause your project to become corrupt. After your current project is wrapped, test with a brand new project.

    - The problem just happens while working in my sequence, not in any final output. I don't know what is meant by "previews", but I have the yellow bar indicator in my sequence, if that's info you need.
I have heard of others having issues with OS X 10.10 and NVIDIA GPUs. My advice is to consider downgrading your OS if you continue to have issues. I believe I have avoided a lot of trouble by sticking to OS X 10.8.5.
Previews AKA the Media Cache are your "render files." They can become corrupt, so it's a good idea to trash them when troubleshooting. You can locate them via your Preferences > Media. Click the Browse button.

Okay I went through that menu (which I'm not eager to do, I prefer direct contact) and came across the CUDA setting inside the project settings. I've now enabled the "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA)", which might help.

Testing with a brand new project is not an option. I have a deadline for my current project and it's impossible to start from scratch. What I did try is start a new project and importing the existing one, which didn't help so far.
I was just wondering if you experienced the same issues in a new project. Any project you update to a new version is suspect, in my opinion. In the future, try to avoid doing that. If your current project is corrupt, I could see why you are having certain issues.
For what it's worth, we had another user that exhibited similar issues until they started with a brand new Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 (8.2) file.
Since importing your 8.1 file to a new 8.2 project isn't working, make sure to triple check permissions on all the Adobe folders I laid out in my blog post: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
It's the #1 reason Mac users experience freezing and crashing. The other one I'd look at is that NVIDIA drivers are not working well with Yosemite. Finally, if you update a project across versions, it can become corrupt. Not much you can do about that except start a new project ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 (8.1.0) freezes while scrubbing timeline

Using a Mac Mini (late 2012 model), running Mavericks 10.9.5
Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Quad Core i7
    Memory: 16 GB
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024MB
I am also using a 2TB Fantom G-Force Megadisk external HD to store all my media. It is connected via a Firewire 800 cable
I've been having a lot of trouble with Premiere Pro CC 2014. While scrubbing through a project, a frame will all of a sudden freeze in the program monitor. I have my processors displayed on my menu bar and I've noticed that whenever I run into lag time or freezing the 8 processors won't all be firing, usually just one is actually working at that time. I am also only running one program at a time as to not tie up my processor.
All of my source files are usually AVCHD. Most of my work is under 10 minutes long, so they are just short corporate videos not feature length movies.  I understand that editing native files can really slow your processors so with my latest project I consolidated and transcoded in the Project Manager to Apple ProRes in order to test that. Even with that I'm still having the exact same problem.
These are some other steps I've taken to correct this:
I've contacted Adobe several times and they told me that the Graphics Card is known to have problems and to contact Apple. I contacted Apple and they said there are no known problems with that Graphics Card it sounds like a software issue. I ran a disk permissions test and uninstalled and reinstalled the software. Same problems. Nothing has worked.
I've trashed my preferences as well
Really it seems that both Adobe and Apple are pointing the finger at each other. All I want to do is edit my videos without having to restart Premiere Pro every 10 minutes.

This seems to be an issue for me A LOT too. I can't keep Premiere open for more than 2 minutes at a time right now. The Customer Service rep from India did a "Team View" on my computer before and after 45 minutes finally fixed the issue. But I can't seem to get a hold of customer support right now. I hope you and I both find a solution soon. Good luck!

  • Premiere Pro CC periodically causes Mac to freeze for 1-2 minutes

I'm working in Premiere Pro CC on OSX 10.8.4 and every once in a while my entire Mac will freeze/stall/hang for 1-2 minutes. During the freeze, the mouse cursor dissapears and the keyboard doesn't work. Once the freeze is done, everything resumes and works like normal.
Things that seem to trigger this event are adjusting effects sliders on layers that have transparency, alpha channels, or low opacity. I mostly work with Quicktime MOV files that have alpha channels and use fonts with an opacity set to 78%.
One time this even happened after I did an export media, and the preview window on the export media panel was stuck at "Rendering Preview".
I'm using one of those newer iMac machines and it has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB video card. In the project settings, my video rendering and playback is set to "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Accelleration (OpenCL)". I will next try setting it to CUDA to see what happens.

  • Clean install to solve buggy system?

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro Retina has been buggy for quite a while. I was hoping the new OS would smooth things out, but I've noticed additional issues. For example, the folders in my finder are blurry and don't open, and my shortcut folders in the left pane are empty; I can only get into my folders via spotlight. Another bug I've noticed is that my desktop icons move around on their own.
I have two questions: (1) Is performing a clean install a potential way to smooth this out? (2) Will restoring my computer from a time machine backup simply reintroduce these buggy issues back into the system?
    Thanks!

Try restoring OS X from your recovery disk.
That, at least, should eliminate the operating system as a source of your problems.
You should also consider deleting third party software that affects the operating system.

  • Premiere Elements 11 not working on a networked system

Could someone please confirm to me that Premiere Elements 11 does not work with redirected My Documents folders? Is this something Adobe will look to change?

    SG
I have long known of the merits of the Homegroup sharing of computers, especially as it is related to printers and non Adobe files on external hard drives.
So, when you brought up the point
But on an ethernet home network, it works just fine. I can easily have my program on one computer and my media files and even my project on another and edit a video between them.
That was a great tip which I had not run into before and consequently have not taken advantage of. So, I gave it a try between my Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7 64 bit and Windows 8 64 (with everything possible being shared between the two as allowed by Homegroup Sharing).
Bottom line is that it did finally work fine, but it took some doing to get there. The final obstacle was clicking Yes to the Open Project message of:
The Scratch Discs are write protected or unavailable. To open this project, the scratch disks will be set to your My Documents folder. Would you like to continue?
    Have you run into that?
    Thanks.

  • How do you PROPERLY clean a DV7-1025NR cooling system?

I use a program called "Speccy" from Piriform and it is showing a temperature of 149 degrees on my video card (GeForce 9600M GT) and a temperature of 105 degrees on my CPU (Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo P8400). I don't know if these are high or not, but I have had this computer for quite some time and I know that to keep it in good shape it needs cleaning. My fan is not making any noise and I assume thats a good thing. I would like a printable list of specific (very specific) instructions or even better a video on how to accomplish this task. I am comfortable with the idea of disassembling my computer if I know WHAT and HOW to do it.

Well, for comparison purposes, our rigs seem to differ as to voltages. This was achieved on Auto (default) CPU V. setting. QPI V. sits at 1.20V's. Your CPU must have a slightly higher VID. As for CPU core temps, that isn't going to be much of a good comparison either (Zalman 9900 on the CPU), as my side cover which has a fan is off & currently using a 10" table fan since I'm doing so much part swapping & testing, & the room temp is only 19C, & the highest load temp on any of the cores I recorded was only 68C. At least the new beta bios cured the CPU Multi saving, but it did'nt fix the Cell Menu 'Read Only'. Still reads 4000 160X25.
Well I can boot up with those voltages as well, but when I go to run Prime95 it BSODs or just freezes.  I am running my memory at 1600MHz as advertised for the memory.  I will try out the CPU-Z H/W Monitor...  (assuming it is different then just typical cpu-z)

When opening premiere the issue sometimes happens instantly, or other times it happens after the first thing I click.
The Issue freezes the laptop and makes my laptop screen offset similar to the "offset" effect, where my screen is pushed to the left. and the left side of the screen is pushed off onto the right side of my screen.
I unfortunately have updated to OS X Yosemite and am currently running 10.10.1 on. Up to this point premiere has been running fine.

Well, it's been a while since my last report, mostly because I haven't been using the program as much... however, today I needed to use it and well... it happened.  And it happened on a blank document too.  I made sure that all my other applications were closed at this time, and when I rebooted it, it continues to freeze.  Here is what I saw on the task manager.  Seems to be pretty similar to last time:
I use Flash to do Timeline animation and sometimes vector art.  The program has crashed before on a reset of preferences.  You also noted that there is a Flash.exe instead of a Flash 32.exe, I don't see it in the task manager at all... I only see the Flash 32 that I've been posting.
Perhaps I may be missing something, but the reasons for crashing that you listed do not seem to be the reasons why I am crashing and freezing.  While I can understand loading up a bloated file and having it crash the program, I have never seen this program until CS6 freeze once, and then from then on out, until I restart the computer, it will freeze time and time again.  It's bewildering as to why that is happening.
The Application doesn't seem to be sucking in a ton of memory.  The application will crash out-of-the-blue.  Sometimes when I simply click into the program on a blank doc (like this last crash), it will freeze up.  And if the program isn't even able to work with a blank doc, I don't think the content of ANY file is the problem.
I'm really at a loss.  I might have to downgrade back to CS3.  This is one of my most used programs, and if it's impossible to have it run smoothly without me having to restart my computer every few hours, I'm not really sure what to do.

  • Importing video into After effects, premiere pro and media encoder result in freezing

I have been trying to import a 17 minute long mp4 video shot with a go-pro into after effects and premiere pro with the result of the program locking up each time. My next thought was try to import it into media encoder and change the file format but it is causing media encoder to lock up as well. Any thoughts would be sincerely appreciated

Sounds like something might be fishy with the video file.  You might try converting with different software, which can often be more forgiving than Adobe tools.

there was no change in the sequence described above.
I decided to try another possible solution which I read about in one of those other threads: opening Premiere from a different account.
    Incredibly, it WORKED-- sort of...
I got a couple of popups advising me that missing codecs had to be installed-- and upon completion, Premiere opened!
Here's an interesting note: the last file to load was still "SolidComposite.AEX"-- and the "White Screen" I kept seeing was Premiere opening normally.  The next thing that displayed was the normal  dialog box "Open/New Project"-- I entered a new project name, and Premiere started normally. I even added a few video files as a test... all opened normally.
    I returned to the Admin account to see if the fix was in here, too;
but clearly the war wasn't over, over here...
    It now appears that some personal setting in the Admin account is causing Premiere to close itself;
I've been reading about the layered security measures embedded into Windows 8-- I'm suspecting the conflict lies there...
I ran the Windows Troubleshooter & got this:
both MS & Adobe confirm that CS3 is fully compatible--here's my sytem info:
    Since I seem to have established a fall-back position that lets me use Premiere, my crisis becomes a mere conundrum;
but I know this is gonna gnaw at me anyway, & I'm hoping that this new information might suggest further troubleshooting options to someone who understands the Adobe software and/or the Windows software better than I do!
Speaking as someone who has found many solutions on forums like this over the years, I assure you:
for every person whose post you reply to, there are many more whom you will never know you have helped!!!
