OSA Fails to Launch on Windows 2000

Installing an application that runs only with Oracle 9i. The Vendor has packaged the OSA and the Oracle CDs.
The OSA is suppose to launch, using JRE 1.4.2. And setups "Install Anywhere by Zero G"
It does not want to launch the GUI as the Local Admin Account or any account local to the machine...
HOWEVER
If we Remote Desktop to the Machine; then the OSA GUI will Launch...
Question 1: Why would the OSA launch as a User Via Remote Desktop? But not Launch on itself? or by VNC either for that Matter?
Question 2: The Vendor has lists of errors with creating its database via remote Desktop, but I was thinking I could install Oracle 9i using the OSA via Remote Desktop... any issues with this? Then I'd launch the App on the local machine that creates a database, etc....

What is OSA?
Who is the vendor?
What is the product?
9i is in desupport. You are installing something that is still-born. Why?
Generally speaking Oracle management requires a "real" access. The remote Desktop has many issues.
Seems to me you should throw this software back at the vendor and find something based on 10gR2 with a guarantee from the vendor that they will always support you with currently supported versions of the database. What you are describing is a nightmare scenario.

  • How to configure Failed RID master in Windows 2000 SP4 DC?

We are still using windows 2000 SP4 server due to application compatiblity of our core application, this error has occur during a fire here in our office then the physical server itself, migrated to our DR site, then after that event the physical server
itself join again to its original place where as, in H.O branch.
    First Problem:
Now our branch office site users always fails to log to their workstation, we still need to reset their password again and again after the day ends , and it will come back again tomorrow.
    Second Problem:
When we are adding a user account it always say's "Windows cannot create the object because the Directory Service was unable to allocate a relative identifier" it predict that the RID master has been corrupted because of the migration
    from site to site,
Can I still have answers here even though this is way way to obsolete from microsoft, I need help please :)

Hi thanks for your kind reply,
No, there are 4 DC in our environment but the forest root DC has the problem, I only create user accounts, I still not creating other object in active directory.and also the replication between root DC and other DC has problems. but I think its in the DNS
part, just need step by step process. :)
I'll give it a try on what you suggest but is this tried and tested? because when you replicate from corrupted FSMO roles DC, the new DC will also infected with errors,
By the way I already tried ntdsutil to fix the AD database and all are passed.

  • Sqlplus.exe fails to launch under Windows XP ([...] MSVCR71.dll [...])

    Hi,
when I try launching sqlplus.exe under Windows XP, I get the error, in French
"Cette application n'a pas pu démarrer car MSVCR71.dll est introuvable. La réinstallation de cette application peut corriger ce problème."
    which is approximately translated to
"This application couldn't start since MSVCR71.dll can't be found. Reinstalling this application could fix this problem."
I don't suppose reinstalling would help since I just unzipped Basic Lite and SQL*Plus, then set PATH.
I'm getting this after failing to connect to my server on Debian. My Windows administration talents are fading. What could cause and fix this problem?

    from metalink note 338900.1
1 - Download .NET from the Microsoft Website as this will include this run-time library.
This should install the file under the Windows\System32 directory automatically.
    OR
2 - Search for available sites to Download the MSVCR71.DLL file.
This can be placed within the Windows\System32 directory or any other location but the location
must be found listed within the PATH environment variable. Keep in mind, downloading this file from a site other than Microsoft's may have some adverse affect to your machine as the actual source of the file may be unknown.

  • ITunes fails to launch with Windows XP Professional

I transferred my music to a new computer with Windows XP Professional and now iTunes won't work. It was working at first, but now if I open it this error comes up - 'iTunes has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience' and then to click to tell Microsoft about the problem. Does anyone know how to fix the problem?
      Windows XP Pro

There is a good Apple article on trouble shooting launch failures here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302856
Before working though it, it is worth making sure that Quicktime launches and works OK. iTunes can't work if Quicktime doesn't.

  • IPhoto fails to launch in window

iPhoto appears to be open in that the menu bar at top-page is shown - when you display all windows its there - but when you click on the 'shaded out' iPhoto window it simply disappers
if i go into another logon id that is sharing the albums, it works as normal - so pics are there, i just can't get iPhoto to run
I've had my iMac for 4 months and its worked throughout - it just stopped launching iPhoto for no reason (no new pics, events or albums have been added)
i've logged out, shut down and its still not working
    any help much appreciated!

    Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    2. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility

    Do the following:
Uninstall from Windows the following five programs in the following order:
    iTunes,
    Apple Software Update,
    Apple Mobile Device Support,
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support.
You do this from Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Restart your Computer after the Un-installation is done
Download the latest version of iTunes from Apple and note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator, just Right click iTunes installer and Run as Administrator.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Itunes and Quicktime twice now, and I still get the same message.

is that message mentioning "compatibility settings"? if so, try the following document:

  • Failed Windows Store App certification - error 10.3.1 Unfortunately when we reviewed your app, it failed to launch every time. - No clue

I am trying to submit a Windows Store App (x64 for Windows 8.1 only), but it fails the certification procedure,  and I have no idea about what I am doing wrong.
    - The app passes successfully the local Windows App Certification Kit 3.4.
    - I have tried the app with the network cable out, and it works as expected.
    - I have used the same credentials to generate the appupload package and to submit it.
    - The app starts up and works as expected with a Surface Pro 3, a PC with development tools like Visual Studio; and another PC without anything extra installed.
    - The feedback provided by the certification testers is the following sentence: "10.3.1 App is testable: Unfortunately when we reviewed your app, it failed to launch every time."
    - Their attachment is a screenshot showing a fullscreen, flat color, rectangle.
    - There is no crash report of any kind.
    - The e-mail interaction with the certification guys seems to be quite a nonsensical conversation.
¿Any ideas that can help me to solve this problem?
Thank you very much for any hint you can provide.

  • Launch error on Windows 2000

    Hi,
A few of our customers indicate that they get an error when trying to launch a Java application (JRE 1.2.2) on a Windows 2000 machine (service pack 1 and 2). Essentially, the error is "javaw.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows." The customer reports is works on some Windows 2000 machines, but a few give them problems. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Hello Sir
We have a licensed copy of InstallAnywhere software and have been using it for a long time now.
As of now we are facing some problem when we wanted to install our JAVA application which was compiled using jdk1.1.8 on Windows2000 system. The same application can be installed on WinNT system but when tried on Windows2000 system the following error occurs. It is as shown below and the attached gif is the version details of our InstallAnywhere software.
But the problem does not occur if I compile using jdk1.2.2 version.

  • I uninstalled LabVIEW 6.1 from a Windows 2000 computer and now when I run DOS programs I get a pop-up error, "gpib-vdd.dll, An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization". How do I correct this?

Occurs when running Edit.com for example. Error has choice to Close application or Ignore. If Ignore is chosen, application appears to run normally. Running repair of Windows 2000 does not correct the problem.

I'm glad you found it. Don't worry about the post. It's always good to check the KBs first, but we can't help it if we miss one sometime! The forum is definitely helpful though so don't feel hesitant to use it in the future. Good luck with the programming!

    Hi
I have the same question namely how does one create a new (in my case an "own process") Report Server. I have copied below a snippet from the Oracle Application Server Reports Services Publishing Reports to the Web 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) documentation (it ommits to tell how a new service is created!)
"If you add any Reports Servers after installing Oracle Application Server, you should register the new server(s) in two places:
The Oracle Process Manager and Notification Server's opmn.xml file.
The Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g's targets.xml file.
To register a new Reports Server in both opmn.xml and targets.xml, run the
    following command line:
    On UNIX:
    ORACLE_HOME/bin/addNewServerTarget.sh reports_server_name
    On Windows:
    ORACLE_HOME\bin\addNewServerTarget.bat reports_server_name"
So does running the script also create as well as configure the new service?
    Thanks

  • OAS 10g Standard Edition installer fails. windows 2000 sp4

I downloaded and unzipped the 2 zip files from: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101201se.html.
When I double-click Disk1\setup.exe ... the mouse pointer changes momentarily to an hourglass, but then nothing. The installer quits immediately. No new process running in windows task manager so the installer doesn't appear to have ever run. I can't seem to find any error log, the installer just quits.
Running Disk1\setup.exe from the command line also quits immediately.
I'm connecting to the Win 2k box through terminal services, if that matters.
    Any help with this appreciated.
    Versions / specs:
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.1) Standard Edition One
    MS Windows 2000 5.0.2195 SP 4. 2G Ram, 3G swap space.

Thanks! I get an access permission denied error now, but I think that's a windows account issue.
Thanks again! I should be on my way.
