OSB 10.1.0.0 on AIX crashes the entire system during an rman backup to tape

Hi,
I have here two AIX 5.3-07 systems with Oracle 10.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.3 on it. After installing Oracle Secure Backup for AIX I tried an online backup with rman. During the rman backup the entire AIX system crashes and reboots.
I can reproduce this on both AIX machines. If I'm using only obtar to backup some files it works out of the box. On the 10.2.0.2 system I've initial installed a 10.2.0.1 database. With this installation I was able to make online backups without any crashes.
Just before I open a tar I want to ask if someone has any hints?

  • Bluetooth crashing the entire system?

    Hi,
Twice in the past two days, my Pbook 1.33GHz has frozen entirely. I can't be sure it's a kernel panic, but everything freezes, the displayed time does not move (over 30 minutes passed), the external keyboard and mouse don't work, and the only response I get is the Caps Lock key light works. The screen remains as if nothing had happened (I get no "screen of death") - just suddenly stops responding. The first time, I did a hard shutdown (hold Power for 5 secs); second time, I did a hard restart (CTRL-CMD-Power). After the second time, I logged in as the administrator user, and got a "Your Mac was restarted after OS X unexpectedly quit" message. I submitted a report to Apple - which unfortunately I didn't copy for myself. I glanced at the report, and noted that it involved several Bluetooth components.
The first time the system crashed, I had been having trouble with a bluetooth headset a couple hours before. But everything went fine for a while; I even put the computer to sleep. Walked away, came back, the Pbook re-awoke itself but completely frozen.
The second time it crashed, I was just reading thru a website in Camino. A bluetooth keyboard was connected and paired (an iFrog keyboard). Then suddenly the system stopped responding.
This has never happened before; my system is normally very stable. Could it be 10.4.8? Also, anyone know how to retrieve crash/panic logs so I can post them for you to see? Thanks!

  • FCPX crashes the entire system when applying Ken Burns

When applying Ken Burns to an image, when repositioning the start and/or end frame the entire system locks up, not just FCPX. The cursor can still be moved, but other than that the entire system is unresponsive and the only solution is turning off my iMac and rebooting. That is how the problem started, a few days later during the same process the entire screen turns black and rebooting is once again the only way out.
Is anyone else familiar with this problem?

There's a little icon that appears in the Project on top of each picture that has Ken Burns applied, click on that icon (it's a cropping square icon). that will bring up the Inspector and show you the red/green boxes that indicate the area where the zoom starts and ends for Ken Burns. If you drag the edges of both the red/green boxes individually to fit the entire picture, I think you will get the effect of not cropping. But it won't really be Ken Burns either because it won't zoom/pan across the image as it plays back.

I installed the latest Acrobat Reader (11) and every time I try to do a Save As, it crashes the entire Adobe program closing all files.  I tried uninstalling and re-installing and it still crashes.

    Hi Bryan ,
It happens when you save it as an Adobe PDF or a normal PDF?
Happens with all the files or any specific one?
What exact version of Acrobat are you using?
Try updating it to the latest one if it is an older one.
You may also want to uninstall and re install it to check.
Let us know how it goes.

  • Time machine on Lion crashes the whole system when used with external HD

    Hi all,
Anybody got the same problem? I did a Time Machine backup just before I did the upgrade to Lion (using an external USB HDD) after the upgrade (that went well in my opinion) when I ask TM to do another backup it stays on "Preparing" indefenately and ultimately crashes the whole system ( reset with ctrl+cmd+power button) is required otherwhise the system stays non reactive.
    Regards,
    Iwan

Start by verifying your internal HD, and repair your backups, per #6 in Using Disk Utility.
If that doesn't help, see #D6 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting for a possible way to cancel the backup.  If that works, use the widget in #A1 there to display the backup messages from your logs.  Locate the backup in question, then copy and post all the messages here.

  • Illustrator and photoshop 2014 work perfectly, while Indesign crashes the entire operating system (mac osx 10.7)

    Hi all,
Recently updated to CC 2014, and while both Illustrator and Photoshop run perfectly, every time I launch Indesign it crashes my entire operating system, forcing me to restart the computer.
I'm running Mac OS 10.7. Should also mention that clean unistall/install did nothing to fix the issue.
Anyone else having the same issue? Please help.

    Hi Sumit
Why can’t I have any answer from Adobe? I bought a licence and now I can’t work with the software.

  • Firefox crashes the entire computer

For roughly the last year, Firefox has been crashing my entire computer, causing the system to hang and then shut down unexpectedly.
I have been able to narrow down the source of these crashes specifically to Firefox over the past few months.
I have a Dell XPS 8000 bought January 2010 with an i7 860 2.80Ghz and 16GB RAM, running Windows 7 64-bit. The crashes I receive only occur when Firefox is running and occur anytime between 5 mins of running FF up to 30 mins. I have tested this with nothing running except for FF and still receive crashes.
I use CoreTemp to monitor each core and none of them go above 50 C at the time FF crashes. I can run video playlists on Winamp, sync my iPad with iTunes as it updates several apps, use AutoGK and WinFF simultaneously to convert video, and have Chrome running with 5-8 tabs open and never receive this crash. I've also pushed the system further by having all the above running as well as CS3 Photoshop and Dreamweaver and mimic a server with Xampp and even then, my system will run just fine, albeit with temps in the high 70s.
I've only received these crashes only with Firefox running. To fix this, I've run fresh installations of Firefox twice and then today, since I've been running the same profile info since before 3.5, I backed up my bookmarks, completely uninstalled and then reinstalled FF without any of my addons, and in the middle of recreating my normal tabs and pinned tabs, received the same old crash. As a last resort, I let go of all my bookmarks and began adding them all individually, and once again, received the same crash; this last test was when I had nothing but FF running and temps below 50 C.
I am terribly frustrated by this issue because I am writing this from an HP laptop running FF with a profile that's been used since 3.5 and I can run FF and Minecraft on this laptop with no problems at all. I also have the same FF profile ported over to my Macbook Air and no issues there either.
I'm at a loss as to what could be causing this problem or how I can go about fixing it and any help would be greatly appreciated.

pffft same problem here just keeps on happening. Im running some pretty grunty games and my system is ok. as soon as Im using FF for a while my computer freezes. its only when I use FF. Ive checked computer health. Diagnostics, checked for malware and checked drivers. just cant figure it out. any takers?

  • Why is Facebook constantly crashing my entire system?

For weeks now Facebook (Mafia Wars) has crashed my entire Linux Mint system as it totally freezes.
Rebooting is my only option. The problem can be when simply loading Maria Wars, sometimes when using various features - nothing consistent.
Firefox in Windows XP(sp3) the crashing is less severe but is still bad in Mafia Wars.
No doubt, Mafia Wars is the issue but Chrome in Mint and XP works fine. Any advice guys as this issue is spoiling the use of Firefox.

Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
From the top menu bar, select
    View ▹ Columns ▹ # Ports
if not already selected. Click the heading of the Ports  column in the process table to sort the entries by port usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process?

  • POWER MAC GOES CRAZY ON FONTS AND CRASHED THE ENTIRE HARD DRIVE

I was working on my mac, and my illustrator program crashed. When i relaunched my finder, the entire desktop
was changed with a garamon font and my dock was missing.
Each time I opened a app it crashed automaticly. I had no more drop down menus in my tool bar the whole computer was crazy.
So I decided to reinstal my Mac OS X instal discs.
The problem is, It's panter not Tiger. Anyways...I have Panter on my machine now which seems to work fine but I can't open Safari anymore. I bounces in my dock once and that's it it doesn't even open. Do you know why my computer went Crazy and how can I solve my safari problem.
P.S. I might find some other problems but I haven,t opened all my apps yet.

Christian, it sounds like an incompatible font. Also, please refrain from posting in all upper case letters since it is like yelling and considered rude on the internet. Thanks.

  • My First MacBook Crashes The Entire Network (Router) for Everyone?

    Hi,
I've spent the past 2 days on my first MacBook ever, struggling to keep the Internet active.
I've never had this problem before and it started when I brought this new MacBook home.
Basically what happens is when I start up the MB and it automatically connects to the Wireless Network, the entire Internet connection (router) drops and crashes and the only way to restore it, is to shut down the MacBook and thereafter reboot the Router.
If you start up the MacBook again, the same events follow; massive internet crash across the network and then you hear people screaming and shouting that the internet crashed.
I've done plenty research, and nothing seems to work.
I've found a bit of information on MTU and modifying the values. In the 2 days I've had this Mac, I've tried every value below 1500 on the Router and MacBook, (including 1492; 1400; 1352; 1450 etc) and can't keep the MacBook to save the Value under Ethernet?? Is this a Snow Leopard bug? When it does decide to save; it resets back to Manual - Standard 1500. It's frustrating, because I moved from Windows to Mac to get away from bugs and incompatibilities and guess what; First day I encounter massive inefficiencies due to Mac
I've had a little success; when the Mac does save the MTU in Ethernet for a session (not permanent after a restart for some weird reason); I am able to browse the internet for 10 - 20 minutes though another Access Point on MTU Values on 1420; 1428; 1436 and thats it. The internet crashes.
I've also tried to disable IPv6 and manually set DNS servers and IP's (automatic/static). No success.
Please help, this is not the greatest introduction to the Mac life, and I want is the internet connection to remain stable for everyone.
    My Hardware is as follows:
    MacBook Air (2010) 265GB
    DLINK DSL-2650U Wireless G ADSL2+ Router
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

It doesn't seem to be just D-Link routers.
I'm having a similar problem with an older Belkin model, running DD-WRT firmware, and two different 2010 model MacBook Pros. Heavy upload traffic can cause the wireless access point to lock up.
A friend just told me today that he's having the problem with a Linksys model, running normal firmware, and older model MacBook Pros. Heavy upload traffic (Time Machine backups, in his case) causes his access point to lock up.
(There's a lot of discussion threads about Wireless access problems, but most seem to be of the computer stops talking to wireless network variety. This problem my friend and I are having - which sounds like yours too - definitely seems to be breaking the network for everyone.)

  • How to distribute RMAN backup among tape volumes in OSB

    Hi Guys,
I would like to ask some information about OSB. I have finally set up our Oracle Secure Backup 10.3.0.3.0 and initial OSB backup to tape is good using our test environment.
Now, our production servers has the following details:
    Serv01
    - Oracle Database 11.1.0.7
    - Windows Server 2003 R2
    - Current RMAN backup to disk full (level 0) is at 2TB.
    Serv02
    - this is our media server for OSB and we manage from here all other servers that we would like OSB to be implemented.
    -Windows Server 2003 R2
    - We have IBM tape library here with four drives
    - Our tape volumes are 480GB each (compressed) we about 50 of them.
-Each tape volume has barcodes and our library has barcode reader
How can I group certain tapes (as a media family?) and use them for our level 0 backup. As you know, one tape cannot hold our level 0 backup so we need at least 5 tape volumes to hold our level 0 backup. Is there a step by step process of doing this? Or does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks and I would really appreciate your thoughts about this.

Yes, media families (like tape pools) are used to group backups on tape. Using a database backup storage selector, you set-up media policy so OSB will automatically select appropriate storage when for the backup per your settings. You may want to refer to this white paper which discusses media management:

  • Can OSB XE run on a server other than the database system?

I have a 2 node 10GR2 Standard Edition RAC using an EMC SAN and ASM. However, I can't attach a tape drive directly to the database servers because they have no available slots for SCSI controllers. Is it possible to use OSB XE installed on a separate system (which would act as the administrative and media server) with a tape drive to back up the RAC database, or does XE only permit backing up a system which contains both the database and the tape drive? (I'm not too concerned with backing up the OS). If so, would the backup contain archive log threads for both RAC nodes?

OSB-XE may be used for a single-server environment only. You describe 3 hosts in the environment. The only way you could use OSB-XE would be to have one host configured as your admin. server, client and media server and only back data on that server. If you are backing up the database, then OSB-XE must be installed on the database server which also must then be configured as your admin server and media server....it must be direct attached via SCSI to tape drive.

  • Photoshop CS4 has started crashing my entire system

Hey there, hopefully I can find a solution here that doesn't involve a full system dump and reinstall.
Photoshop started crashing on my today but not just the App - it takes down my whole system forcing me to do a "hold the power button for 5 seconds" shutdown and restart. The first crashes were when trying to convert a medium complexity selection into a work path. Then. after giving up on that even just opening an image, converting it into a layer so I could use the transform tool. As soon as I hit "cmd-T" the app locks and the system crashes forcing me to reset via the power button.
Nothing has changed, I haven't installed anything, downloaded anything, nothing at all. I'm on an iMac running the full master collection, Intel, maxed out RAM......CS4 has been running flawlessly since installation up until this. (Installed a few months ago). I reinstalled Photoshop from the disks but same thing happened.
    Help?

    Chris Cox wrote:
I've got a 4870 in my MacPro (here at home, the one I'm typing on now) - and zero crashing with OpenGL on.
It is good to know that it's working well on your system, Chris.  Any suggestions for those of us who are having a problem?  Since we know it's neither universal nor isolated, what's the next step in diagnosing? I have no idea how to start nailing down what's at the root of the problem, but would really like to solve it -- or at the very least, help Adobe and/or Apple figure out what might be going on.
And if your symptoms are not EXACTLY the same as the original poster in a topic
: please start a new topic instead of adding confusion to the current topic.
Okay, sure, I didn't know that's how this forum works. Some forums prefer that you not make a new topic for every single issue or question if it's possibly related to another one already being discussed.  I'll gladly restart this as a new one if you think that's best at this point, or maybe an admin can split it off since it's grown already. Sorry about that.
(Just as a delicate side note: I'm sure it can be extremely frustrating reading tons of complaints by anonymous folks, many of which are off base and impolitely worded. I don't envy the position at all, especially if I were one of the creators of a product as amazingly powerful, intelligent, and elegant as Photoshop.  But for anyone representing Adobe in any way, it may be a good idea not to simply accuse a polite poster of "adding confusion," without at least politely apologizing for misreading/mischaracterizing the poster's post.  My post itself was indeed perfectly clear about what was crashing. A simple, "Sorry I misread your post; for clarity, we prefer that you start a new topic so different issues don't get confused," etc. would be great. Sure, a really minor thing, but it may help keep people happy with the company instead of thinking they're a little rude or dismissive. I sincerely appreciate your posting here.)
Anyway, as I finished typing this I saw your last reply to Brizdale (via email alert). So, is there any way for us to diagnose whether it's a driver or hardware issue? Or do we just have to wait for -- apparently -- Apple?  Or AMD?
    Thanks again.

  • Lightroom 4 is crashing and corrupting files. it also crashes my entire system sometimes. I'm on windows 7 64x, Intel 5 4670, 16gb ram.

I've tried reinstalling it. Didn't help. It crashed when I was exporting 111 photos, then I only did 20 at a time and it didn't crash, but it crashed 4 times while I was editing the session. What should I do?

I tested it, its fine...my whole system is fine. Lightroom is the only
program that acts like this. Otherwise my system is good to go.What else?

  • Whenever IE tries to open, Firefox crashes, and cannot be reopened unti I restart the entire system.

Whenever I click on something that brings up IE (not the default!), Firefox crashes, and when I try to reopen it, a screen comes up that is supposed to let me reopen it, but it won't. I have to reboot the system in order to bring up Firefox again. Is there some trick to restarting Firefox after this crash?

Go to the address '''about:crashes''' and tell us your latest crash IDs. We can then look at the data specific to your crash and have a better idea of what is causing the problem.
(Do this in Firefox not IE)
