OSB/RMAN to tape it's failed (hang)

We are trying to backup ODA RAC database to SL150 tape library, backup hangs with no errors. Oracle support was trying to solve the problem with no luck. any help please:
n summary:
OSB/RMAN to disk it's OK
OSB/RMAN to fake tape it's OK
OSB/filesystem to tape it's OK
OSB/RMAN to tape it's failed (hang)
we have checked permission devices, RMAN parameters all seems to be ok.

There's not enough information here to begin. Please supply full "obtool lsdev -lvg" output and also the full log files from the jobs.
Thanks

  • If RMAN incremental level-1 backup fails...

    Hi there,
    I have a question. If the RMAN incremental level-1 backup fails, will the next level-1 backup attempt take backup of all changes since last successful level-0 OR level-1 backup?
    Best regards

    Hi,
    I have a question. If the RMAN incremental level-1 backup fails, will the next level-1 backup attempt take backup of all changes since last successful level-0 OR level-1 backup?
    Check the V$BACKUP_SET dictionary to confirm whether the last backup has been touched by data dictionary. If the failed incremental backup is picked up then the previous incremental backup will be required in case of the next DIFFERENTIAL INCREMENTAL LEVEL 1 backup.
    But to be on safe side , it is recommended you take a LEVEL 01 CUMILATIVE INCREMENTAL backup from Level 0 till date. So that the recovery process can go through even  if the previous backup is not valid.
    Thanks &

    I have similar question.
    I have configured RMAN backups using NEtbackup and ran few test backups and worked fine. I could restore and recover the database too(testing).
    Everything works fine.
    I would like to delete these test backups from RMAN repository and start real backups.

  • DPM 2012 R2 long backup to tape job randomly fail after installing SCCM 2012 Client

    Hello,
    I'm managing a two nodes 2012 R2 file server cluster that contains a 16To CSV. I'm using DPM 2012 R2 to backup this entire shared volume directly to LTO 4 tapes, the job last about 55h.
    Since SCCM 2012 client has been installed(I don't manage it), the tape jobs are failing ramdomly after several hours with the error:
    Type: Tape backup
    Status: Failed
    Description: The DPM service was unable to communicate with the protection agent on serverX.xxxx.xxx . (ID 52 Details: The semaphore timeout period has expired (0x80070079))
     More information
    End time: 19/07/2014 03:11:06

    Time elapsed: 05:11:05
    Data transferred: 768 289,56 MB
    Cluster node serverX.xxxx.xxx
    Source details: G:\
    Protection group members: 1
     Details
    Protection group: File Server Tape Protection
    Library: Quantum PX500 Series Medium Changer
    Tape Label (Barcode): File Server Tape Protection-00000230 (000043L4)
    If I uninstall SCCM 2012 client, no more issue, backups succeed. I've asked our SCCM team, no specific task has been scheduled or deployed in SCCM.
    I can't see anything abnormal in logs.
    Any idea?

    I have disabled "Configuration Manager Maintenance" and I have also tried to set the registry value HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CCM\CcmEval\NotifyOnly to TRUE and still the same issue.
    I can't find any correlated errors in the Windows event logs, task scheduler history neither in the DPM logs.
    I've increased the log level of DPM by following the following procedure
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/george_bethanis/archive/2013/11/04/how-to-collect-dpm-verbose-logs.aspx
    Now i'm suspecting the maintenance job of Windows 2012 R2, i'll try to disabled this task. But the fact is that I don't have this backup issue if SCCM 2012 client is not installed.
    I'm waiting for next logs and will keep you informed

  • Can osb change the tape automatically ?

    My tape driver is HP MSL6030, only one driver, and six data tapes and one clean tape in the driver, Can the osb change the tapes automatically? I mean , I make a schedule, then at the schedule time, the driver automount the tape, when the writting finished, the driver can change the tape by itself?

    I'm not familiar with this unit, but the MS6030 is supported by OSB, so yes, the tapes will be changed automatically.
    Your schedules will be associated with particular media families (via the triggers) and OSB will automatically select media from the appropriate family to perform the backup.

  • OSB / RMAN configuration for recovery area backup

    Hi
    I am having trouble performing a recovery area backup to tape.
    Current config
    Media server - attached tape library (OSB installed as media server, admin and client - Contains RMAN Repository) - configured as per guide. I can see the library tapes and have tested an OSB filesystem backup to tape which was fine, this was done from the OSB GUI.
    Server 1 - databaseA, DatabaseB (OSB client installed) .
    ZFS device - Shared storage where the FRA for DatabaseA belongs. All databaseA backups go here (currently databaseA is running in nonarchivelog mode).
    I have set the tape details for databaseA, done a backup to the FRA but the backup recovery area to tape backup just hangs, no real errors and the job list through the obtool and list the job it always has state as 'retryable', I am wondering if I have missed some configuration somewhere? I am using Grid control for this.
    I did have a couple of RMAN messages tried to resolve this as per some metalink notes to no avail, I am assuming this is causing the problem? Or am I missing something else?
    specification does not match any archived log in the repository
    specification does not match any datafile copy in the repository
    Can anyone help?

    Rest the times on the servers and now get the following errors:

    Hi All,
    While cloning a db using RMAN, We get

    Recovery Manager complete.
    I realized that, I had given an incorrect location for the logfile. The database is restored, control file created, while opening the db I see this error. Is it possible to continue with the clone using rman without having to restart the whole clone. I know it can be done manually using create control file and manually applying the archives. However, Is there a way to continue the clone in rman by specifying the correct location for the logfile?
    -Ritesh

    The directory name was incorrect. I corrected it and re-ran the script. But it started the clone right from the scratch....Instead of continuing from the point it failed..
    Did you use LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT (possibly
    incorrectly)? Is that directory name correct? You
    have data02 and data03 beneath it?

  • RMAN with tape without mediation from MML (target 9i)

    hi, guys
    i'm wondering if RMAN is able to do the following job :
    target DB (9.2.0.8)
    i wanna backup the whole database to tape (hot or cold whatsoever)
    is it possible to backing up db to tape without 3-rd party SW installed on DB?
    if i wanna exclude the temp tablespace from whole backup what's the fastest way to do it ?
    thanks~
    or the possible way is only to write to disk first then move to tape manually ?
    thanks
    br/ricky

    is it possible to backing up db to tape without 3-rd party SW installed on DB?NO, not directly with RMAN. Unless of course you don't consider Oracle Secure Backup 3rd party software.
    if i wanna exclude the temp tablespace from whole backup what's the fastest way to do it ?You are in luck, RMAN doesn't backup temporary tablespaces.
    or the possible way is only to write to disk first then move to tape manually ?Yes, RMAN can write to disk and then you can move to tape without using RMAN.

    Hari,
    If it is multi user environment then ask all users to close their sessions using change center. If it is a single user environment then please rename the sessions folder (D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\base_domain\osb\config\sessions\ALSB_IDE_Internal_PublishOp_1345525-4159) and restart all the servers. It should solve the problem.
    Also check whether the OS user who started the servers, has full access to the complete domain folder and permission to create directories/files into the domain folder and it's subfolders.

  • OSB 11g proxy service test console fail with Broken pipe

    Hi everyone.
    I have a strange problem with OSB test console (and sometime with java client). The proxy I built cannot response after several request. In other word, I tried to test console for dozens time, sometime I cannot have response from OSB. I wait for the response for 5 minutes and get some strange exception, that is broken pipe, but error code is not unique.
    I cannot understand why my proxy service stuck in that exception. Can you help me to solve it ?

  • RMAN Restore on Test DB Fails - ORA-01152:file 1 was not restored from blah

    Calling all RMAN Gurus!
    I'm having trouble recovering an RMAN backup on my test DB server. Please Help!
    Solaris 10/Oracle 10.2.0.4 Standard Edition (Both Servers)
    Part one - Step by Step
    Primary Server
    1. Perform full backup: backup database plus archivelog;
    2. Copy Backupset & Controlfile to test server: "RSYNC/NFS Mount"
    Test Server
    1. rman target /
    2. startup nomount;
    3. restore controlfile blah blah
    4. alter database mount;
    5. catalog backuppiece
    6. restore database; - no issues
    *7. recover database noredo; - no issues*
    *8. alter database open resetlogs;*

    RMAN-03002: failure of alter db command at 09/09/2009 08:48:22
    ORA-01152: file 1 was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '/data/oracle/oradata/planodb/system01.dbf'
    All is good until I try and open the database. What am I missing?? Why doesn't this work???
    Because .... If I go through the exact steps but I perform a "recover database" instead of "recover database noredo", I can open the database!!!
    Example :
    6. restore database; no issues
    7. recover database;
    Starting recover at 09-SEP-09
    using channel ORA_DISK_1
    starting media recovery
    channel ORA_DISK_1: starting archive log restore to default destination
    channel ORA_DISK_1: restoring archive log
    archive log thread=1 sequence=34
    channel ORA_DISK_1: reading from backup piece /data/oracle/orabase/backup/backup
    set/2009_09_09/o1_mf_annnn_BACKUP_PLANODB_000_0_5bgkffqq_.bkp
    channel ORA_DISK_1: restored backup piece 1
    piece handle=/data/oracle/orabase/backup/backupset/2009_09_09/o1_mf_annnn_BACKUP
    PLANODB000_0_5bgkffqq_.bkp tag=BACKUP_PLANODB_000_090909010005*
    channel ORA_DISK_1: restore complete, elapsed time: 00:00:03
    archive log filename=/data/oracle/oradata/arch/PLANODB/archivelog/2009_09_09/o1_
    mf_1_34_5bhdkwd4_.arc thread=1 sequence=34
    channel default: deleting archive log(s)
    archive log filename=/data/oracle/oradata/arch/PLANODB/archivelog/2009_09_09/o1_
    mf_1_34_5bhdkwd4_.arc recid=42 stamp=697106925
    unable to find archive log
    archive log thread=1 sequence=35
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-03002: failure of recover command at 09/09/2009 08:48:52
    RMAN-06054: media recovery requesting unknown log: thread 1 seq 35 lowscn 1425007
    This is ok because seq 35 doesn't actually exist!
    8. alter database open resetlogs;
    database opened!

    You could also explore the UNTIL clause of the RECOVER DATABASE command to specify Recovery until a specific Log, SCN or Timestamp.
    Since you are cloning a Hot Backup to another server the Recovery has to be an Incomplete Recovery. So, it will be to a Log, SCN or Timestamp -- either of which you could also explicitly specify with the UNTIL clause.

  • Download of iTunes songs fails.  Tap to retry fails help!

    Hi All,
    I have just tried to download 4 songs from iTunes using my iPod touch however in the downloads area of iTunes the 4 songs are sitting & it states 'download error tap to retry'. I have retried a number of times but the same error appears.
    I can connect to the web & used web apps so there's no issue with my network coonection.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    this happened to me quite a few times with movies, and there is no fix you can do. email itunes support through itunes, and theyll clear it for you and also prob give you store credits. they are very helpful about it.
