OSB with Dell PowerVault 100T DAT7 2

Will Secure Backup work with the Dell 100T DAT72 tape drive?

This is an area that I have very little experience. I'm not sure what a library is to be honest. Is this something that installs with the drive, or is it a piece that needs to be purchased or obtained separately? All I can tell you is that I followed the OSB instructions exactly:
10gR2 10.2.0.2.0 Windows 2k3 R2 on Dell PowerEdge rack
Created Library with attachment raw device //./obl0
But the show properties revealed the message "no hardware info is available for library tc-lib - The system cannot find the file specified"

  • Xserve g5 with dell powervault 220s via scsi

i have a fully working xserve g5. i recently added an adaptec scsi host adapter 39160.
the box booted no problems and recognized a scsi controller.
i want to attach a dell powervault 220s to this scsi controller and use it for external storage. I have the PV booted and connected using 1 scsi cable. to the xserve.
when i try to boot up the xserve it grey screens saying to hold the power button.
it does this every time. what do i need to do to get this system working?

dang, what about an adaptec AIC-7899? should that
    work?
Nope. Here's their announcement that Mac users can take a hike:
    http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/support/updates/mac_osxinfo.htm
ATTO is pretty much the only choice with 10.4.x. A bit pricy, but it works fine in our Xserve G5.

  • Dell PowerVault MD1000 with Mac OS X Server 10.5 (mac pro with fiber connec

Hey Guys. Its time that i add a bulk amount of storage to our mac network.
Currently Our network consists of one mac server which is a Mac Pro with Mac OSX Server 10.5 installed on it with 4 x 750GB Hard Drives with a couple of client machines. I now need to add atleast another 6TB to the network. This needs to be seen as the server as one drive so that 6TB needs to be raid prosume (raid 5)
Now in the Mac Pro server we have a Fibre Card that we dont currently use with 2 slots. My Plan is to buy a Dell PowerVault™ MD1000 (http://configure.euro.dell.com/dells...ulmd1000sata) and put in the amount of hard drives i require into the Dell Storage.
Would this work. If i bought the Dell PowerVault™ MD1000, would i beable to hook this upto the mac server and use it as a storage drive? Although i do no networking. Im still very new to this.
Ideally im looking for something similar to an Xserve Raid, but with out the Apple price tag on the outside if you guys no what i mean.
    Best,
    Nathaniel

You would at least need a SAS/SATA controller - preferably a hardware RAID one, much like the one bundled with this unit - but it also needs to be OS X compatible.
I would look for something that is known to work, not something you "cobble" together.
The FibreChannel card does you no good if you haven't got a device with FC ports.

  • Oracle  Secure Backup- Lib Dell PowerVault 114x

    Hi,
I am a beginner in tape a backup solutions.
    I have installed osb 10.4. My library is Dell™ PowerVault™ 114x
If i try configured Lib and tape with sg_map -i -x
    [root@bosmgmt ~]# sg_map -i -x

    -- Tape is recongnized by osb : /dev/sg4 1 0 1 0 1 /dev/nst0 IBM ULTRIUM-HH4 B6W1
    But Library not.
I found in matrix of compability in this link
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/products/secure-backup/learnmore/osb-tapedevicematrix-520156.pdf
    and Dell™ PowerVault™ 114x is not.
Could i install driver or modify file for osb recognize this library??
    Thanks in advance

Looking at the Dell website I would say that this unit is not a tape autoloader or library, it is just an enclosure that holds up to two drives. From our sg output I would say you have a single drive and that is what is being seen by the OS (and therefore OSB). I don't think there is any other mechanics to automatically load/unload tapes from the drive, so it is effectively a standalone drive.
    Thanks

  • DELL PowerVault via SAS - is it possible?

Hi all, I'm currently trying to sort out a way to wed a new MacPro (with Final Cut Server 1.5) to an existing DELL PowerVault MD RAID rack via SAS (this will also remain tied up to a Windows server for serving stuff to the offices we're in). I've got three FCP suites, each with a local RAID - total data on all of these equates to around 150,000+ files occupying about 5TB.
I've already given up on the notion the new setup would be fast enough for edit-in-place, we soon found the budget wouldn't take us that far yet, but the only solution our IT guys have turned up so far is connecting the RAID via regular Gigabit Ethernet as DELL do not create SAS drivers for OS-X... this would slow the workflow down so much I'd just have to abandon the idea of a server environment altogether... it would take weeks just to transfer all the projects over to it!!
The budget has all but gone, I practically blew it on the server in the belief the DELL rack would hitch up okay without much further investment... but this is all looking like turning into an expensive mistake
Anyone one else in a mixed PC/Mac environment with a possible solution???
    Cheers!
    Tom

    Hi Thomas,
I too have the same issue.
But in my case I have a Dell PowerVault NF600 (NAS). I was using it as an edit-in-place over a quad GigE card (on the NF600) before FCSrv. And now I'm using it as an EIP with FCSrv.
Since network mount is not as reliable as a SAN, and Qmaster insists in copying files even if all computer has access if it's not a SAN I'm starting to think the same way (Attach the NF600 as fast as possible to the FCSrv).
One big problem is the old Mac-PC problem. I do not think that a SAS card can be inserted on a Mac Pro and connect to the NF600 (or MD) and work ok. I didn't find anything like this on my search (but this doesn't assure it's not possible).
So the only option would be over Ethernet. There's iSCSI and SAN over LAN.
I've tried the Microsoft iSCSI Target but there wasn't too many free (or for trials) initiators. One that you may try is the GlobalSAN ( http://www.studionetworksolutions.com/products/product_detail.php?pi=11 ).
One solution that I'm trying right now and it seems to work (since is recommended by Bob Zelin at http://magazine.creativecow.net/article/build-your-own-affordable-san-that-iwork si ) is the metaLan Client and Server ( http://www.tiger-technology.com/ ).
This makes your normal LAN connection as a SAN without the need for fiber.
Of course, good switches and good multiple port NICs (for the server) and Link-Aggregation is recommended.
Look at http://www.small-tree.com for NICs and switches.
    Hope this helps!
If you find anything further or have any doubts, please let me know.

  • StarTech Adapter not working with Dell Inspiron 15, model 3521

Side Note: I wrote a reply to a thread that was from 2013. I do apologize because the link was sent to me by my bf and I did not realize how old it was. Since my reply has to be approved I can't delete it.
Current Issue: StarTech Adapter not working with Dell Inspiron 15 model 3521
I bought my Dell laptop last year and at first I did not realize that it had only one audio jack (combo, as the specifications manual says), I only noticed when I was trying to plug in my Ozone Rage ST headset.
I searched online threads and found out that I needed an adapter and most people mentioned Headset Buddy. I couldn't find any adapters for sale in my country (or employees didn't really know what I was talking about) and since Headset Buddy is a bit expensive, I decided to try StarTech Headset adapter for headsets with separate headphone/microphone plugs - 3.5mm 4 position to 2x 3 position 3.5mm M/F www.amazon.com/.../ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top.
It arrived today and let me tell you that I can't make it work. I can hear everything but I can't get the external mic to work or even be detected. I have always used my headset (mostly for gaming) and I prefer to use my external mic rather than the internal one. First I connected my headphone and mic jacks to the adapter and only after that did I connect it to the laptop combo jack. I also tried vice-versa. It didn't work, regardless of the order. I even tried with a different headset and it still didn't work. What else can I do?
I have also found a thread on Dell forums saying that Headset Buddy doesn't even work on Dell Inspiron 15, model 3521. So since it doesn't work and I'm assuming StarTech doesn't, either, what am I to do/buy?! I am getting extremely frustrated and I'm very disappointed with Dell because the brand should have included with the laptop a proper working adapter for these situations and not make its customers buy an extra accessory to make whatever working gear they already had function. It just doesn't make sense to me! Either make the changes work properly or simply don't touch anything. I spent some of my savings on this laptop which, overall, is great but now I am being forced to spend more on an item to allow me to use my headset. I am running out of options here and even Dell can't seem to tell its customers with 100% certainty what really works for this specific model.
If I can't make the adapter work, I just hope I can return it, otherwise I'll end up with no refund and with a piece of equipment I have no other use for!
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
This is the first time I was forced to buy adapters such as these so I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if there's anything else I can do to make it work. When I plug the adapter to my Dell, the laptop presents me with several options such as: headphones, headphone, speakers, skull candy headphones, etc (maybe some may have different names but since I see them in Portuguese, I'm not quite sure how they appear for someone who has the computer in English), I have picked different options and it still doesn't work, the only noticeable changes are sound quality related, I guess.

  • Yosemite System Crashes on Boot with Dell U2713HM

Previously under Mavericks I had no issue with a Dell U2713HM monitor and my 'non-stock' NVidia card.  (The reason I'm using the video card I am is because the stock ATI card (ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT) is known do fry itself which I discovered after replacing it with an identical card and having the 2nd one fry itself after a year.  I did a lot of research and settle don the card I now have because others had reported success with it.  It worked fine for nearly a year until updating to Yosemite.)
After upgrading to Yosemite my system went into an infinite reboot loop on startup.  On a hunch, I swapped out my U2713HM for an old 17" monitor and was able to boot.  I can't even have the U2713HM plugged in/turned off using the second port on the card without the system crashing.  If I get the system booted using the 17", I can then plug in/turn on the U2713HM and set the resolution - at that point I can (sometimes) boot but it will then crash on shutdown triggering an automatic restart.
Is anyone having any success with a U2713HM, and especially with an NVidia card?  The only option I haven't tried is a completely fresh, clean install.  Once the system boots, I get the dialog that it was restarted because of an issue and can view part of the dump info that will be sent to Apple -> that clearly indicates the issue is with the kernel/NVidia driver somewhere.
System specs:  Mac Pro (Early 2008) with an NVidia GeForce GTX 650 1024MB card installed running Yosemite (OS X 10.10)

My mac mini (late 2012, Yosemite installed) doesn't start with Dell U2713HM if the USB cable of the monitor is connected.
No problems if I connect the usb-cable after successful startup. Also the usb-hub of the Dell is working fine then.

  • Anyone familiar with Dell OpenManage Server Administrator

    Hi there,
I have been having some difficulty with Dell's OpenManage software and there
seems to be little support in their forums with respect to Novell products.
I was hoping I could find someone here who has it set up successfully to ask
a few questions. If it is inappropriate to post questions regarding this
software in these forums then I appologize.
    Thanks for your time,

When you use the Dell install tool it prompts you for the name of the
Tree, The context in which to place the server and the admin user.
Chances are you are simply trying to log in as admin under the worng
    context.
The dell install program, if you answered YES to the questions of
storing the response and config files you created then you answer is in
thise files if you can get access to the dos partition.

  • Macbook Pro with Retina Display with Dell U2412m external monitor

I recently purchased the Dell U2412m monitor on Amazon hoping to use it as my external monitor to my Macbook pro 15" with retina display, however, when I finish setting it up, there's a red/pink vertical line showing on my screen. Does anyone know what seems to be the problem and how do I get rid of the line. Is there anything I need to set up on the monitor to make it compatible with MBP with retina?? Thanks in advance.

I used a mini display port to display port cable and my screen looked fine. My problem was that the USB ports did not work and dealing with Dell customer service was a nightmare.

  • OSB with AIA

We are trying to use OSB with AIA EBS.
    Use case is :
OSB Proxy service will receive the inbound payload, transform into AIA EBO and a Business service will invoke AIA EBS.
Challenge is OSB can't access the AIA EBO schema (EOL) from MDS. Can OSB directly access AIA schema? or we have to import the whole AIA schema library(EOL) to OSB?
Of course we don’t like to maintain two copies of AIA library.
Seeking your expertize in this area.

In my project, the curstomer decided to build EBS layer with OSB, so we have to keep the canonical components into OSB layer. Obviously we have to keep 2 copies of AIA Components as OSB will not recognise MDS paths. So i kept a copy of the entire AIAComponents into a OSB and modified the business services by adding the port information to the EBS services, then only you will be able to see the operations to create a proxy service or business service.
Then you can create proxy service out of the EBS service and then call the provider ABCS component as business service. This is the way i did and did a presentation to customer.
I had provided them the issues as well and decided to go with mediator and MDS.
I think in SOA 12 g, the OSB engine will be part of the SOA then we can use it.
    Thanks,
    Vijay

  • Is the thunderbolt display compatible with Dell laptop (Latitude 6430)?

Is the thunderbolt display compatible with Dell laptop (Latitude 6430)?

Since the specs for the Dell laptop (Latitude 6430) do not list ThunderBolt as one of the supported bus structures that means it does not have a ThunderBolt port to connect the ThunderBolt display to. Hence is not compatible.

  • OS 10 Server DHCP with Dell Switches

We have a strange DHCP assignment lag that shows-up by machines taking a long time to get an IP address, sometimes as long as 20 seconds. As you can imagine, this causes all sorts of problems.
When we bypass our Dell Switch (PowerConnect 6248) the problem disappears.
We are running 10.5.8 on the latest Intel Xserve.

Thanks to both of you, faulty switch has not even crossed my mind, but I will be call dell tech support today.
I did check the Dell forums, most everyone has difficulty passing DHCP between their VLANs. We have the most basic set-up with a single LAG configured.
I'll see what Dell support has to say. I was hoping others were using OSX servers with Dell switches and maybe seeing this too.
I fear calling Dell and telling them that we are using Apple equipment, I tire of support people either not knowing about Apple technology or stating that it's simply not supported. I am sure we all deal with the anti-Apple bias and you know what I mean.

It’s also a Dell.2 Dell monitors used to be great, but their quality has been inconsistent and declining in recent years, and they’re certainly not known for their visual appeal or classy materials."

    - N5K is connected to M8024 in vPC.

If I wanna make it works again then I have to do two things.
First of all, It should be selected on the Source MAC Check the way of vSwitch's Load balance.
(Port ID check is the default)
Second of all, the the order of Switch's fail over is very important.
If I change this order then VEM will be off in very soon.
Here you go, the screen capture file of These option. (you may not understand these Korean letters.)
In my opinion, the main problem is the link part between Esxi and M8024.
As you saw, Each Esxi is connected to two M8024 Dell Blade switches separately.
I saw the manual for the way N1K's uplink Load balance.
Even though there are 16 different port-channel LB way,
but It should be used only the way of src-mac  If there is no supporting port-channel option in the upstreaming switches.
But I don't know exactly why this situation happened.
Can anyone help me how I make it works better.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Vince

There's not enough information to determine the reason by those two outputs alone.  All those commands tell us is the VSM is removing/attaching the VEM.
The normal cause for the VEM to flap is a problem with the Control VLAN communication.  The loss of 6 consecutive heart beats will cause the VEM to detach from the VSM.  We need to isolate the reason why.
-Which version of 1000v & ESX?
-Are multiple VEMs affected or just one?
-Are the VSM's interfaces hosted on the DVS or vSwitch?
-What is the network topology between the VEM and VSM (primarily the control VLAN)
-Do you have the Cisco SR # I can take a look into it.  TAC is your best course of action for an issue like this.  There will likely need to be live troubleshooting into your network environment to determine the cause.

    Robert
