OSPF adjacency between loopbacks over Layer2 WAN

Hi Experts,
I am wondering if some can explain me below scenario please
you have two routers in different DCs and they only have layer 2 connectivity, hence no the IP addresses assigned to their outside interface, they both have 1 loopback on each router and I want to form an adjacency between their loopbacks.
Can anyone explain, how to achieve this, or redirect me to the relevant cisco documentation please.

Hey,
Just adding my bit to post. You may also explore ip unnumbered option, have a look:

  • EEM -automatic shut down or switch over of WAN link in OSPF when packet drop increase

    Hi,
    Need help..
can any one help me how can EEM help for automatic shut down or switch over of WAN link in OSPF when packet drop increase a predefined level.
I have a set up different branches connected together...OSPF is the routing protocol and need to communicate with two branches via hub locations.
need to shut or switch some percent of traffic from primary to back up when packet drop in the link.

I am not sure EEM can do what you want.
Another option could be to use SLA tacking/monitoring. But you will fall back to the new route when you lose some percentage of pings, you can't switch only part of the traffic.
    I hope it helps.

  • Data affinity between clusters separated via WAN

    Hi,
I need your help, again! :)
In the scenario where I have two clusters separated via WAN, I want to know if it is possible to create data affinity to each cluster.
That is, this scenario is not the same as Push Replication Pattern solve, because I want to avoid the data management conflict between the updates on the both clusters. If I create data affinity to each cluster, the Cluster A is responsible for data objects X and Y (and the same data object in the other cluster is considered as secondary/backup) and Cluster B is responsible for data objects W and Z (also has a backup on Cluster A).
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    André

    Hi ggleyzer,
    Thanks for the help.
But, how can I routing different keys to different caches, if I want to have two clusters with the same information and caches due to possible disaster recover scenario?
The scenario that I imagine is almost the same as Push Replication Pattern - Active-Active. (http://coherence.oracle.com/display/INCUBATOR/Auction+Site+Demo+1.0.0)
I want to have 2 Clusters (e.g. "A" and "B") and have exactly the same information in each one. However, I want to create affinity of objects to each Cluster, for example, the objects X and Y are processed by "ClusterA" (even the request arrive to "ClusterB") but still have of copy of them in "ClusterB" (X' and Y', just for the case of disaster). So: can I specify the namedCache of "ClusterA" to objects X and Y (having a copy of that objects on "ClusterB") and assure that all processing of this type of objects are done by "ClusterA"?
If it's possible, do you think that approach is more suitable than Push Replication Pattern? A problem that occurs with this pattern is the Conflit Resolver. However, I don't know which problems I will face with the other. Maybe the main disadvantage is the information crossed over the WAN, because "ClusterB" can send processing to objects that has affinity to "ClusterA".
    Thanks,

  • ASA causing OSPF adjacency cycles

Putting together a lab setup for an upcoming network project. I have OSPF configured between the core router (6509 VSS) and a border router (7206VXR). Everything works great to/from ultimate destination (routing updates, etc). However, when I place an ASA 5540 (in transparent mode) between the core and the border router, the OSPF adjacency regularly fails and then re-establishes.

I've added ACL entries for allowing ospf and tcp port 89 (which is probably a bit redundant) on the Outside interface, and it's still cycling. What am I missing?

After reading the ASDM information messages a little more closely, the firewall wasn't allowing the multicast ospf messages from the Inside interface to the Outside border router. After allowing OSPF on the Inside interface for the router point-to-point network, the adjacency issues ceased.

  • REMOTE RECORDINGS OVER THE WAN IN CCX 7

    We have a customer
with CCX 7 local agents and recording services ( BUT NO QUALITY MONITORING)
Normally records all local agents calls ( colocated with CCX.
Now customer has remote agents via WAN and needs to record their conversations.
According specifications and PDI case the sutiationis:
"This deployment model can support silent monitoring and recording for agents at any WAN-connected site by using desktop monitoring. (Refer the Cisco Unified CCX Software and Hardware Compatibility Guide for a list of phones that support desktop monitoring). It can also support SPAN port monitoring for agents on the VLAN segment local to Cisco Unified CCX server. This deployment model does not incorporate additional remote Monitoring components, so silent monitoring and recording is not possible for agents who are using the Cisco IP Phone Agent at remote sites. Similarly, silent monitoring and recording is not possible for agents at remote sites who are using phones that do not support desktop monitoring."
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/crs/express_7_0/design/guide/uccx70srnd.pdf
    page 4-6
The list of phones not supported for desktop monitoring is listed in the compatibility guide.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/crs/express_compatibility/matrix/crscomtx.pdf
In other words CCX can support "silent monitoring and recording for agents at any WAN-connected site by using desktop monitoring"
But assume you use an IP Phone that supports desktop monitoring
AS RECORDING OPTION WITHOUT QUALITY MONITORING NEEDS MAC ADRESS OF AGENT how can CCX record agent calls taking into accoutn that MAC address is lost when traversing the WAN ...
So the question for this dsicussion is :
IS QUALITY MONITORING THE ONLY WAY TO RECORD REMOTE AGENTS OVER THE WAN OR ARE TEHRE OTHER OPTIONS WITHOUT IT??
    Pease reply to [email protected]

It is possible without QM. When using desktop monitoring, the phone is configured to Span to PC port. The agent must be running CAD and the PC running it must be attached to the PC port on the phone. CAD sees the spanned packets from the phone and then forwards them to the recording service on the CCX server. The big gotcha is that the NIC in the PC must not discard 802.1q-tagged packets. If the NIC discards them instead of forwarding them into the NDIS stack, CAD will never see them. Sometimes this takes a Google search and a registry setting change to fix if it doesn't work at first.

  • Any reported problems using jdbc over a WAN?

If im trying to connect to a Database that's on a WAN will I experience any issues in using jdbc to connect and execute queries to that database?
I know problems would come up if my wan network is slow, but has jdbc been able to handle long distance database queries? timeout values?

    but why?
is it because of security? If a company had a database with your personal info hanging out on the Web for anyone to query without any validation or security, how would you feel about it?
design pattern issues? It's just good layered design.
just doesnt make sense? Not in my opinion.
have u experienced/heard of any problems of
connecting to a database over a WAN and executing
queries? You don't say anything about who the client is. If the database is behind a firewall, outside clients shouldn't be able to access the port where the listener is running. Only port 80 should be open on that firewall.
So you either write a servlet that listens on port 80 for HTTP requests from a browser-based client OR you ask your firewall admin to punch a hole in the firewall and open up the port on which your database is listening for queries and use a Swing client.
If s/he agrees to do it, quit immediately. It means your company doesn't know anything about security.

  • DNS: Client can't connect because .local domain isn't in DNS. How can I connect over the WAN to server.domain.local?

So my 2012 server is set up on the LAN with a .local domain name.
Remote Desktop Services are set up and remoteapp stuff works fine on the LAN.
I've set up port forwarding so I can connect to the server over the WAN too, but remoteapp stuff is a bit different. I can connect to the server by specifying the correct IP address. Giving a Web browser the address
    https://serverIPAddress/RDWeb
lets me get the login screen and see the range of apps for me to run. I select one, the connectoid is downloaded correctly (in Chrome) and I click on the downloaded connectoid.
Unfortunately, rather than pursuing the sensible IP-address approach that I started with, the connectoid has been given the server's name on the LAN:  server.domain.local. Clearly, the client machine tries to look this up but DNS hasn't heard of
it because it's a .local address.
I cannot be the only one to have come across this apparent oversight on Microsoft's part. Any ideas as to how this can sensibly be overcome? Obviously, I could put the IP address translation into every client's hosts file (and I've done this and shown it
works) but I've got too many clients to mess about like this. Anybody know 'the Microsoft way' to fix this?
Thank you for checking this out -- I am confident the details of the problem are completely specified in this query but, if I'm wrong, please ask.
    Many thanks again,
    Biffo

On a mac well in the finder press apple key+K type in your home external ip(255.255.255.255)

  • No check box for "Share disks over Ethernet WAN port"

I've recently bought an AirPort Extreme and have no problem on connecting to Internet and sharing disks. But my "AirPort Utility" looks different from other people's, and I feel uncomfortable about it.
I saw many users' AirPort Utility screen shots, but all of them have "Share disks over Ethernet WAN port" check box under Disks > File Sharing tab. But mine doesn't; at the place where that check box should exist I have "Advertise disks globally using Bonjour" check box, which is usually under "Share disks over Ethernet WAN port" check box.
I think this is very unusual. Does anybody have the same problem?

    Hi All!
I'm quite new to this Airport Extreme thing. I just set tne box up, and i wanted to share my disks over WAN, but the option "Share disks over Ethernet WAN port" is missing. I'm only able to turn on Bonjour
    My firmware version is 7.2.1
Can anyone help me with this matter?

    Hi Lars,
The reason why you are not able to see the option "Share disks over Ethernet WAN port" is because you have set your Airport Extreme up as a "Bridge" (broforbindelse). You must be using the Airport Extreme as your router in order to have this option.

  • Using DynDNS and Sharing disks over Ethernet WAN port

I am having issues accessing the AirDisk from outside my LAN. So here are the steps that I have taken:
In the AirPort Utility, I enable "Share disks over Ethernet WAN port".
Created a DynDNS account at http://www.dyndns.com so my hostname points to my IP address.
After reading a bunch of threads, mainly this one below, there are a few conflicting issues.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4105319
Someone mentioned you have to Setup Port Mapping to open up Personal File Sharing. But another said you don't have to set up Port Mapping. Well if you do, you're gonna run into a problem. This Apple article states you have to use a different port: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305183
Someone said Remote Access only works via AFP not via SMB. Is this true?
Also do I have to enter my DynDNS hostname into the wide area bonour tab in the advanced tab?
    What am I doing wrong?
Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Airport Extreme N

Are you aware of any DynDNS-like service that support Wide Area Bonjour?
None at the moment. One might hope that Apple's .Mac service would make use of it, but I don't think Apple has announced anything about that possibility.
Or as a practical matter is this a technology that only appears at the moment in private installations of OS X Server?
I've found the version of dnsextd that ships in Mac OS X 10.4 (not just the server version) to be a bit flaky. One hopes it will work a lot better in Mac OS X 10.5.
But since the AEBS doesn't support DynDNS update, as other routers do, it ends up requiring a server after all.
Wouldn't it be nice if DynDNS and similar services allowed you to configure DNS resource records manually? That way, it wouldn't matter what your home gateway/fileserver was capable of doing— you could just edit your DNS zone accordingly.

  • What is the best reporting tool to use over a WAN

I am currently working on improving the performance of our Oracle FMIS over a WAN that covers most of Australia.
I was wondering if anyone could point me to tech information on the impact of Oracle Reporting tools on a WAN.
The three tools we use are ADI, Discoverer and strait Oracle Reports.
I am not an expert in Oracle so even basic info on the effect of the 3 products would be of help, of course if anyone is willing to share their experiences it would be appreciated.
We have two major user sites of 500 people seperated by 3000km and 5 minor sites 2000 from head office. I unfortunalty am at the major office 3000km from the server with 500 dissatisfited users.

  • Issue with OSPF Point-to-Multipoint over CES Cloud

I'm having an issue running ospf point-to-multipoint over a CES cloud.  The reason I want to do this is that not every site has the same bandwidth and this way I can use neighbor statements to specify the cost to each neighbor.
To make this work I have to shut down the cloud facing interface on each node and bring them up one at a time.  Everything runs fine until I then shut one of them down and bring it up again, I'm only able to form adjanceis with 2-3 nodes - the other nodes get stuck in either INIT or EXSTART until OSPF give up do to too many retires.  If I then repeat the process of shutting down the interface on each node and bringing them back up it works again.
I've tried both " ip ospf network point-to-multipoint" and " ip ospf network point-to-multipoint non-broadcast" with the same results.

All the routers have at least one other interface running OSPF point-topoint with no issues.  The ASRs also have some stub areas in addition to area 0.  I've tried taking the ASRs out of the loop and testing, but the results are the same.
Please let me know if you have any ideas or need more details.
    Thanks.

    Hi Peter,
believe me: I was perplexed as well and it took me some time to understand what was going on.
I've created a simple gns3 lab (topology attached) with handy IP- and MAC addresses:
    R1: 192.168.0.1; 02:00:00:00:11:11
    R3: 192.168.0.3; 02:00:00:00:33:33
    R4: 192.168.0.4; 02:00:00:00:44:44
The host routes for the point-to-multipoint interfaces play an important role:
    R3#show ip route 192.168.0.0
    C 192.168.0.0/24 is directly connected, FastEthernet1/0

OSPF: Send hello to 192.168.0.4 area 0 on FastEthernet1/0 from 192.168.0.1
    OSPF: End of hello processing
Because of the hostroute to R4, R3's proxy ARP answeres an ARP request for R4 (the same happens on R4)! At this point we have IP connectivity to R4 (via R3) but this doesn't work for OSPF's link local traffic.
So just for the fun of it, we could configure a static ARP entry to verify if that will fix the problem:
    R1(config)#arp 192.168.0.4 0200.0000.4444 arpa
%OSPF-5-ADJCHG: Process 1, Nbr 4.4.4.4 on FastEthernet1/0 from LOADING to FULL, Loading Done

IP ARP: rcvd rep src 192.168.0.4 0200.0000.3333, dst 192.168.0.1 FastEthernet1/0
Or we could avoid that R3 installs an OSPF hostroute to 192.168.0.4.
    R3(config)#ip prefix-list NO-HOSTROUTES deny 192.168.0.0/24 ge 32

An interesting detail is the destination MAC address in the first request. Seems like the MAC address of the former ARP entry was still cached somewhere.
The adequate solution to solve the problem is of course disabling proxy-ARP.
I was quite surprised to see that that the protocol logic obviously ignores the fact of being in the same subnet but rather simply check if there is another entry for the requested host in the routing table.
The sanity checks section of RFC 1027 says
"An ARP subnet gateway implementation must not reply if the physical networks of the source and target of an ARP request are the same."
and it seems to me that IOS has not implemented this check. I'm looking forward to hear your opinion!
    Thanks for joining,
    best regards

  • Management traffic load over the WAN

Management process(include monitoring and security) with the central WCS system will cause Management traffic over the WAN links.
Can you tell me more about the traffic load over the WAN links if we will use it as only as Wifi detection and prevention system(inclue location and not for wireless services..for now).
We will use 150 air-AP1000(lwapp)on AIR-MONITOR mode over the WAN and 4400 controllers one in each remote sites(10 sites).

I think the following documents might provide you with some good information.

  • Customers running Forms over Internet (WAN)

I am looking for customers running forms over internet (wan). I read the the customer's testimonials at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ids/customers/index.html but
I didn't find any case about running forms application over internet.

    Aviana,
Running a Forms application over the internet can be done, but there are a few things you need to consider before you do this. First, all of your users MUST be on High Speed. As Francios eluded to, Forms applications are Java Applets. Therefore, each person using the application will receive all of the Java Archive (.jar) files used by your program in order for it to run on their computer. Each time a user runs your application, the application will either download the initial set of .jar files or it must validate the .jar files that were previously downloaded to ensure they are current. This can be extreamly slow over dial-up and even on High-Speed line that are less than 256 kbps. Additionally, a user must either have the Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed our they will need to have Oracle's Jinitiator installed. Past experience showed this was a major trouble spot for Dial-up users.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is make sure there are no better alternatives before going down this path. I worked on an application like this because management thought it was the cheaper way to accomplish what was needed. Four years later, after a lot of user complaints and a lot of time was spent supporting users, the application was rewritten from the ground up as a pure web app because it became too much to support and there were too many user complaints.
    Just a thought. :-)
