OSS, vmix and AC3 pass through

I've been battling OSS for a few weeks now.
I have an ALC889 motherboard chip, and oss-mercurial 4.1-3 package (from AUR installed).
- Vmix works fine, goes through my optical jack out to my receiver, most apps and sounds play through fine, except for mkv, dvd, and any other file with an ac3/dts stream, no passthrough is done.  All i get is the static/white noise on both headphones and my DD-ready receiver
- Turning off vmix allows ac3/dts to passthrough to the receiver, with headphones still getting the white noise.
I can live with this if this is the only way to get it to work, but I'm wondering if it's at all possible to get AC3/DTS passthrough working with OSS4 *with* vmix working.  Now i know that you cant play digital passthrough at the same time as a regular pcm/mp3 file, and i make sure i have shut off all other audio apps while playing an ac3 file, but it seems kind of a pain in the ass.
On my old nforce motherboard, which uses the nvidia soundstorm (based on OSS), the digital out always works, with ac3/dts passthrough and regular apps sharing the mixer nicely.
So basically I'm wondering is anyone else has OSS working with AC3 passthrough while using vmix, or if you are also having to go through this "turn vmix off, play ac3, turn vmix back on to go back to normal".
the only reason i dont leave vmix off is because skype-oss only works with vmix enabled on my system, so I have to always go through the process of turning vmix on/off, closing all sound apps, restart OSS, use the app I want, and turn vmix on/off again, and restart OSS again.
I'm not interested in "try alsa" solutions because that has its own can of worms for me that I'd rather avoid.
Using the latest kernel, oss-mercurial, sound otherwise works fine for all apps, it's just the ac3 passthrough that i'm trying to get to work in vmix.

thank you, but i have one other problem:
the li've 24bit has got a combined line in / sp-dif port? how can i change from line in to sp-dif?
thx

• Encoding Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) sound in MP4 files using AC3 pass-through

Looking for an application that will encode Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) sound in an .mp4 container using AC3 pass-through for playing videos with surround sound on ATV.
Handbrake is out of the question because I run Tiger. The Tiger version cannot do AC3 pass-through.
Visual Hub is no longer available.
Any other options?

You may need Apple's MPEG2 QT plugin as well for MPEGStreamclip.
Also, consider if running windows in parallels/Boot Camp etc that there's a windows version, and possibly a linux version.
VisualHub code was released open source - Google FilRedux and PunyVid (iSquint derivative). Not tried either though.

• Flat-file and the pass-through pipeline

Hi there,
I have  a technical questions about the inner workings of BizTalk.
The MSDN says that BizTalk is XML-centric and enything that is going through it and is posted to the MsgBox is converted to XML format.
The question: Is this also true in a scenario including flat-file and a pass-through pipeline ?
Lets say the flat file needs not to be translated, the external organisation will except the flat-file format we are receiving on the receive port. So we use the receive location with the pass-thrugh pipeline (a pipilene without any components in it) and
a send port with a simple filter pointed to the ReceivePort name. No need to convert the file to XML whatsoever, and it would be a waist of time and resources IMHO.
So the question is, will BizTalk (being XML-centric) do the translation anyway ? In what format is the received file being posted and stored in the MsgBoxDb ?
Thanks in advance.
Peter

In a pass-through scenario (with pass-through pipelines) BizTalk will not process the message payload.
More information here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa561008.aspx
The pass-through receive pipeline has no components. It is used for simple pass-through scenarios when no message payload processing is necessary. This pipeline is generally used when the source and the destination of the message are known, and the message
requires no validation, encoding, or disassembling. This pipeline is commonly used in conjunction with the pass-through send pipeline.

• ITunes 9 and Dolby 5.1 AC3 pass through doesn't work

I know that this is an old question. But for me, it still doesn't work. I can pass through Dolby Digital to my 5.1 Home Theater system in VLC Player or EyeTV without any problems. However, in iTunes it still doesn't work. When I select the surround audio track of movies purchased from iTunes, I get no audio at all or a completely silent Dolby 2.0 or 5.1 track. But I didn't manage to get real 5.1 sound. I tried to set the digital output to "Encoded Digital Audio" and selected 48 kHz which should match the right setting for movies. But it still doesn't work. What can I do? Thanks for your help!

Re Checked it.
Only AAC stereo tracks on bought movies are 44,1 kHz.
AC3 tracks are 48 kHz.

• Audio and Video Pass Through / Match Source Attributes

I cant find an entry for AME in the bug/feature request form so I'll post this here:
Feature Request:
Please add the 'Match Source Attributes' options to all fields. I see its available for MPEG DVD outputs but not for anything else.
Please add options for 'Audio Passthrough'
The real world example is:
I pass AME a MOV (with 4 audio tracks) which I need the video converted from h264 to ProRes, but I dont want it to change the aspect ratio, frame size, rate etc or change the audio tracks. I just want to re-encode the video to a new codec and wrap with the original audio.
Instead what we have to do is add multiple watch folders depending on the source material....
and we have to add the audio tracks manually using quicktime 7
Because these features dont exist we instead bought Telestream Episode instead of a CS6 upgrade for one of our machines.

Hi.
this is a very common problem with video converters.
most conversion softwares mention it in their FAQ as a known bug.
some people have noticed that loss of AV sync most commonly happens while they do other things on computer while the converter is working.

• "Pass Through Chapters" text

I'm working with a movie I shot in August 2009 and it imported nicely and I even added a slide show. I'm using the "Pass Through" Theme.
When I click on the main menu, where I list the options for the movie or the slideshow, whichever one I click on, the submenu has this really annoying scrolling text that says "Pass Through Chapters."
How do I either get rid of that or alter the text to something more contextually appropriate?

Rich, Hi and thanks.
I did that on the main menu and the pass-through text there changed, but the sub-menu pass through text remains the same. When I try double clicking on that, the drop zone editor pops up but the text doesn't highlight

• Modem & FAX pass-through differencies

Can anybody tell what are exact differencies in parametar setting beetween modem and fax pass-through modes (like values of static jitter buffer and so on...). In every documentation I find only value for static jitter buffer for modem (200 ms).
If both are configured globaly (as system parameter) on Cisco voice-gateways (for example - 28xx, 38xx or AS 5xxx) in which cases these two modes can cause malufunction of one of them and why?

When the gateways detect a data modem, both the  originating gateway and the terminating gateway switch from dynamic and  adaptive buffers to static de-jitter buffers.
The use of a static  de-jitter buffer is required for modem passthrough because the  adaptation process in a dynamic de-jitter buffer causes a retrain on the  modem connection. When the modem call is concluded, the voice ports  revert to dynamic jitter buffers.
Modem and fax passthrough are treated the same internally...as fax passthrough is just a special case of modem passthrough.

• 30 Pin pass through docking station???

Is there such a thing as a docking station that accepts a 30pin connector on the back and simply passes through the entire 30 pins to base where the iPod plugs in?
I have an iPod car kit in my Jeep and it simple comes with a 30 pin cord that you plug in, then have to find a place to lay the iPod on my console.
I would much rather just hard mount a docking station someone on the car so I can just dock the iPod as I come and go.
However the problem with most docking stations is they don't pass all 30 pins of the connection through ... they only use a handful of the connections(power, audio out). So when I plug my car kit into most of docking stations, then dock the iPod ... they don't work.
I need all 30 pins as my stereo takes complete control of the iPod when plugged in; all control is routed through the stereo and the ipod controls are locked out.
Any suggestions would be great ... I've bought and returned a number of models already ... even dissected a few to see if I could mod them myself.

If "wiggling" the headphones plug in the iPod's jack makes it work, there is probably a hardware problem with the iPod's headphones jack.
Which iPod shuffle model do you have?  This document shows the four types
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1719
Except for the 1st gen model, the shuffle's headphones jack is used for both docking and playing, so how are you able to use a docking station to play audio from the shuffle (if it's not a 1st gen model)?

• No AC3/DTS pass-through option on my X-

As the title says, i miss the pass-through option in the console to pass the signal to an external decoder (the whole decoder section is missing). What's the problem? Please help.Message Edited by Nazgul9 on 06-0-2006 06:00 PM

Hey
I see what you mean, but I've sent AC3 streams through the X-Fi card many times. Any way, I'm not looking for decoding abilities, I want the SPDIF signal decoded in an external Klipsch GMX D-5. decoder. I bought the "X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatalty Pro". In entertainment mode the card works fine and I get AC3 from DVD streams read in the external decoder. But in gaming mode using the realtime AC3 software encoder I think theres a problem getting the SPDIF stream through. To be sure of this I headed for the Creative Audio Console and decoder tab, only that the whole section is removed from the console. Please tell me why this option is removed, it's such a frustration when you go ahead an spend alot of money getting a new card, and then basic options are gone.
Thanks for any help given.

• Pass through scenario in SAP PI with no mapping for File to IDoc and Idoc to file scenarios

Hi Experts,
Can i have step by step process in SAP PI for pass through scenario with no mapping in case of file to Idoc and Idoc to file both cases please.
What objects i can skip.
My PI system is 7.3 dual stack.
I have seen below blogs, still its confusing to me.
When and how to create an scenario in SAP PI without mapping objects.
Pass Through Scenario with no Mapping in PI 7.1
Appreciate your help on this.
Regards,
Mohan.

Hi Mohan
In pass thru interface you don't need to create any ESR objects, only ID objects are required.
Just Create a Receiver Determination and Receiver Agreement for your scenario (no need for Interface Det. and Sender Agreement).
Specify the IDOC in the Sender Interface and namespace as urn:sap-com:document:sap:idoc:messages
Or instead of creating objects manually, Run the wizard with Idoc name/namespace in sender/receiver interface

• PSC 10 and Pass Through Services - Override the GO button

I have a couple of questions around the presentation of the service offer and the service form pages.
What I am trying to demonstrate for a prospective customer is a “pass-through” service where there is no order form but a link off the central PSC catalog to another website location.  First off, if there is a correct way to do this please recommend it.  This is what I think would be the way I would like to handle it:
         1.       Set the service to be non-orderable.  This removes the “Order” and “Order on Behalf” buttons with a “Go” Button as shown here:
         2.       Next I would populate what was the HTML that describes the details of the service from the other website in the Overview from the service designer service presentation tab so that it displays in the Specification of the Offer page.
         3.       Next I would like the Go button to launch “pass-through” to the other web site.  Currently it pulls up an empty form with the service description and a “Cancel” button.  Is this possible?
         4.       Is there a way to control the layout of the content on the Offer Page and the Service Order Form pages?  For instance, if I wanted to include the “More Details” from the service designer service presentation tab, would that be possible?

If you make the service non-orderable, but the user still has permission to see the service, he will see the service and the "Go" button.  Clicking on the "Go" button is supposed to take you to the order form, which allows the end users to see the fields he/she needs to fill in, but does not have a "Submit" button.
I don't currently have a "Yes" answer for #3 and #4.  There might be a way to do them.  I'll look into it.

• OBIEE and Essbase security pass through

Hi All,
I'm using Essbase as a data source for OBIEE. Right now I'm trying to use Hyperion security to pass through OBIEE. I've setup OBIEE to use Hyperion Shared Services as custom authenticator and Hyperion users can log in. However, I'm having problem passing through the users to Essbase. I've changed the Essbase connection pool to use :USER and :PASSWORD. When I tried to check for global consistency, I'm getting the following error
[38098] The password in the Connection Pool '"server"."Connection Pool"', associated with the Repository Initialization Block '"SUB_VAR_BLOCK_server"', contains the use of :USER or :PASSWORD.
When I tried to open any existing Essbase reports from OBIEE, I'm getting this error (as expected)
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. Essbase Error: Login fails due to invalid login credentials (HY000)
Any ideas on how to get around this issue? Thanks
Regards,
Gerd

Hi Gerd,
Could you please explain in detail how you have setup OBIEE to use Hyperion Shared Services as custom authenticator so that Hyperion users can log into OBIEE?
Please provide the steps and custom authenticator function?
we would need to implement it fromm scratch. So, your help will be greatful.

• Receive wireless signal and pass through via ethernet

Hi,
I'd like to know if it's possible to pass through internet via ethernet from a Time Capsule that receives a Wireless signal.
How can I do this?
Thanks!

Well, to be more specific, this a scheme of what I'm trying to do (it represents the floors in my house):

So;
- Telenet modem wired to D-link wireless router.
- D-link router to AE (wireless)
- AE to stereo (wired)
- D-link router to TC (wireless)
- TC to PC (wired)
- TC to printer (USB)
- D-link to tv (wired)
- D-link to Digibox (digital television - wired)
I want to be able to stream music from every device on the netwerk (iPad, iPhone, MBP, ..)
and print from every device. All music should be streamed from iTunes Library on TC.
I hope this is clear
Thanks in advance!
