OSX 10.4.6  connection to Windows Server 2003

OK guys I need serious help here and in the most basic terms you can describe them in. I'm not an IT guy, and our IT guy knows nothing about Macs. This will be a long post, I appologize, but if you think you can help, please read through it.
We have a large network of PC's - one main PC running Win Server 2003. That server controls our storage. Storage used to be controlled by a Linux box, and connecting was as easy as going to "Network/Domain/Server" and clicking connect, which would bring up a list of shares, clicking OK and then entering the username and password.
NOW we have replaced that box with a Win Server 2003 box.
Under Network I can see the server. I click on the server name, then on connect. It brings up the SMB/CIFS File System Authentication window. Which is odd, because it should bring up the "share" window... shouldn't it?
I enter in the username and password, hit ok and I get "The alias "servername" could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found"
So, doing some more research I find that I need to activate "Active Directory"
Cool, so I open "Directory Access" click on "Enable" next to "Active Directory"
Configure
Set the actiive directory domain
enter the comptuer ID
and hit bind, enter the admin un and pw. It binds just fine.
It guy tells me he can see me on his list of users now.
HOWEVER, I guess we don't know the proper way to log onto the server still. I go to network, find the server, click connect. Still no list of shares and still tells me the original item doesn't exist.
PLEASE help. This is making me crazy, and I've already lost the better part of a day messing with it and trying to understand some of other posts I've found on the subject.

Your IT guy will need to disable digital signing on the policy governing that particular server.

  • Mac OS X 10.10.2 connection to Windows Server 2003 R2 very slo

    Hi,
I am currently running OS X 10.10.2 on my MacBook Pro and I connect to a local server at my work periodically by using the connect to server function in Finder. I type in the server ip address and am able to connect to the appropriate drive without any problems. The problem comes in when I go to open files and sometimes folders from the server. It can take up to a minute or more to open a simple .png file that is only 8 mb in size. Trying to open larger files causes the applications to freeze and I eventually have to force close the applications. Even transferring the files from the server to my desktop is extremely slow. I was wondering if there was any way to fix this problem (either on the MacBook side or the Windows side).
The server is currently running Windows Server 2003 R2 (I plan on updating it, but in the meantime...) and the person who set the server up is no longer available to be contacted for questions. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi cani89,
Firstly, this policy has three values that you can set. Which one do you use, Negotiate, RDP or SSL?
In addition, we need the log file for further research.

  • Mac G5 10.4 connecting to Windows Server 2003 finder windows NOT refreshing

We are not seeing finder contents refresh when connecting to Windows 2003 servers. We are running 10.4.5. This was supposedly "fixed" in 10.4 but we haven't seen it work yet. Who do we contact for support on this? I've tried using "Contextual Menu" which didn't work, and also tried "Finder Sync" which also didn't work. The only thing that did work was Path Finder. Path Finder did provide an auto-refresh but I don't like Path Finder and we won't buy it.
Who do we contact at Apple about this? Or does anyone have any experience like this?
    Thanks very much!

I have the same problem and I did public it in another forum.
Someone told me to write an Applescript like this:
    tell application "Finder"
    tell front window
    update every item with necessity
    end tell
    end tell
Copy it, open Script Editor and save it as an executable application in your Utilities folder. Now put shortcuts to it in your Dock or your Sidebar or whereever. When you run it, the front most windows in the Finder will be refreshed to its most current state from disk.
I tried it but it doesn't help so much. I have no problem at all when I work with Windows Server 2000.

  • SMB and VPN connected to Windows Server 2003

I have search the web for an answer on this problem, I've only found peoble with same problem, but still no solution :o/
I wan't to connect to my office (windows2003) from my OSX 10.4.2 at home. I've set up an VPN connection and can PING the server (and others) on the network. Works fine.
When I connect to the server via SMB://server/ I get a list with all different folders (or servers) I can connect to but I get rejected with the answer Bad name or password. Now to the funny part; I can connect in the Terminal using smbclient with the same user and pwd just rejected in Finder!!!
I've read about this problem on http://www.macwindows.com/tiger.html#052305a but I can't find a solution. Someone mentioned a bug with apple number #4108992 - Can anyone tell me where I can read about that? Or better - Where I can find a solution. (I've tried to erase keychain)

My school sets up our network disk space with access via FTP. I don't know if that is an option through your company. While I have to download files to work with them and then upload them again to the network space to access them at work, it does allow me to look at the directory structure. I use an FTP client (not the one built into OS X). This might be an option for you to check on with your IT department. (This also eliminates my need to use VPN.)
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,
Thanks for the question, however, this forum is for Remote Desktop Clients related questions.
Regarding the issue, as Windows clients can connect with no problem, I suspect that it is a Mac side issue and I would like to suggest you contact Apple support for help.
    Thanks.

  • I have a time capsule connected directly to fiber connection. I have connected a windows server directly to TC and configured it for remote desktop connection. From my interanet I can access srvr but not from my home. What config I need on TC?

I have a time capsule directly connected to fibre optic point out. All pcs and macs are connected wirelessly to the internet. I have connected a windows server pc to TC. When configured for Remote desktop connection, I can access windows server from within interanet but don't know how to access it from internet. I guess I need to change some settings in TC to get some ip adress for the remote desktop connection from my home. Anyone who can help me out? Appreciate it.
    Narmin

I am a little lost now.. I have read again your title and your first post.. and they seem inconsistent.
    In the title you state.
From my interanet I can access srvr but not from my home.
Interanet is not a word I know.. I assumed intranet...are you talking about internet or intranet? And just to be clear say WAN or LAN.. !! Is your home part of the interanet??
In the first post you state,
I can access windows server from within interanet but don't know how to access it from internet.
Now this is more normal.. the issue is not in the home at all, it is accessible from there but fails from internet. If this is correct, then you can do a few obvious things to determine where the problem is.
But first I need to know are you actually testing from a different internet connection to your home lan.. you are not just trying the public IP from inside the LAN as that will fail due to the TC not doing NAT Loopback.
I am also assuming the TC is the only router in the network, and has the public IP on the WAN interface.
And I am also assuming you have turned on the ping responder and you can actually ping your public ip from the internet and get a response. This helps no end in figuring out where there are issues. Strange but I have no idea if there is a ping responder in the TC WAN so you might need to forward that as well. Also if you have a dynamic public ip address are you using dyndns or no-ip or some other service to connect.
    1. Test bypassing the TC.. plug the internet connection straight into the windows server,, and test if you have access. If yes, the TC is the problem.. if not, your setup on the windows server is wrong.. look at firewall in particular.
    2. Assuming from test 1 the TC is the problem, Post the screen shots of the port forwarding setup for us to look at.. that is by far the easiest way to check it out.
There are lots of references to port forwarding in the TC.. eg
    http://must-know-mac.blogspot.com/2008/07/how-to-port-forward-time-capsule.html
The things that generally go wrong are firewall on the computer that is accepting the port.
The ISP doesn't allow connections on a particular port. (not likely in your case)
The router is behind another router.. double NAT will kill any port forward.
Upnp has already allocated a port.. not an issue as TC doesn't use upnp although a reboot of everything after you set port forwards is well worth it.. amazing how things don't stick properly without a reboot.
IP on the receiving device is not static and so changes.
Not enough or right type of ports are opened. This is always messier than it looks as one port is often not enough for two way communications.

  • Connect SQL Server 2012 from Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0

    Hi,
I currently have a setup where ETL tool Ab Intio, running on a Linux server, connects to the SQL Server 2005 through a passthrough Wintel server with Windows Server 2003 OS using SQL server native client 9.0
Now I have the requirement to upgrade the SQL server from 2005 to 2012.
My question is, will it be possible to connect to SQL server 2012 through Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0?
As per the specs, I need native client 11.0+ to fully support SQL Server 2012, but then, as per specs, native client 11.0 doesnot run on Windows server 2003. OS upgradation is currently not on the cards.
So will it be possible to the run the basic queries we use currently, if we can connect SQL server 2012 through Windows Server 2003 with native client 9.0/10.0, without updgrading the OS of the Wintel server?
    Thanking you in advance!

    Hi Soumya,
Yes, you can use the SQL Server Native Client shipped with SQL Server 2005 to connect to a SQL Server 2012 instance, and there is no need to upgrade the operating system.

  • Can't create ODBC connection in Windows Server 2012R2

I just finished installing the instant client & odbc connection on Windows Server 2008R2. I then attempted to perform the same installation on a new Windows Server 2012R2 instance and encountered the following issue.
After extracting the contents of the 64bit instant client & odbc files into c:\oracle\instantclient_12_1, adding this to the path statement, and adding a TNS_ADMIN environmental variable, I successfully ran odbc_install.exe from an admin cmd window. I then opened the 64bit ODBC Data Source Administrator, clicked add, selected the Oracle in instantclient_12_1, and clicked finish. As soon as I did so, I received the following error: "The setup routines for the Oracle in instantclient_12_1 ODBC driver could not be loaded due to system error code 126: The specified module could not be found. (c:\oracle\instantclient_12_1\SQORAS32.dll)"
I uninstalled the odbc client (odbc_uninstall.exe) and attempted again with the 32bit version & 32bit odbc configuration screen. I get the exact same result with 32bit as I do with 64bit.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Windows Server 2003 and problem with SSL connection (TLS)

    Hi,
We are forcing a problem with SLL/TLS connection on a machine Windows Server 2003 SP2.
We spent hours trying to solve it without any result.
    SYMPTOMS
No SSL connection can be established in any application since last year, e.g.:
we cannot do any windows update, because there is a time verification over SSL on the windows update website (there is an error that the time is incorrect while it is up-to-date)
we cannot open any website in Internet Explorer over https
when we try to connect to the SQL Server (database SQL 2008 hosted on the same server) with Management Studio it fails with an error: "A connection
was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake.(provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - Could not
    contact LSA)(Microsoft SQL Server)"
in a custom applications which sends requests over https we receive an error: "Could not establish trust relationship for SSL/TLS secure channel"
Everything seems to point at some SSL problem somewhere deep inside Windows.
We installed several patches, but without any result.
    Can anybody help?
    Regards,
    Dawid

    Hi, thanks for answers,
    - In IE both SSL2.0 and TLS1.0 are checked. We tried to disable TLS1.0 - with no results.
    - In  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\Schannel both SSL2.0
and TLS1.0 are enabled. We also tried to dislable TLS1.0 on the Client side - with no resuts.
    - In
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL EventLogging is set to 3, so it should log warnings
and errors. But we cannot find any related logs in EventLog
Unfortunately we are still in the same place.

  • I can't connect to Windows Server via FTP

I've been using FTP for about 13 years and it works fine on Apache servers but can't connect to a windows Server via my Fetch FTP program. The site owner sent me a screenshot and copied/pasted the password so I know I have the info correct. It is still giving me errors.
Is there a special method to connect to Windows server via FTP?

  • IMacs lose connection to windows server

We have recently moved over to macs in the office, so previously we had 3 PC's all connected to a WD Sentinel server where we access large files between us rather than keeping information on the computer.
We have slowly been moving over to iMacs but the problem is these lose connection to the server, so for example if we are transferring large image files, they will just stop, or if accessing catelogs on Lightroom that are stored on the server, we have to 'find missing folders'. This can happen every hour. The connection is also overall slower (for example loading previews/thumbnails) compared to the PC's, which arent even spec'd as high as the iMacs. It also has nothing to do with it going to sleep, it can happen in the middle of working.
All iMacs are connected via ethernet as the PC's were. The WD is meant to be compatible with macs and pc's, which is why we bought it.
Ideally I want to avoid having to splash out money on a Time Capsule and connect them all via thunderbolt, but wanted to check if this is my only option?

I would guess the user's Windows account is corrupted. Since Error -36 is a read/write error, it could occur if the user's server account record is damaged. Since you can use this Mac to logon to other accounts, the Mac is probably fine. Since other Macs can still logon, the Windows server 2003 is fine. This points toward a corrupted account.
I've experienced this phenomenon with Windows accounts and Windows PCs.
A test would be to logon to this user's account from another machine on the network, either Mac or PC. Failure from another machine would point to corruption of that account on the Windows 2003 server. If corrupt, it will need to be deleted and re-created. Backup any server data for this account, since deleting the account will destroy any server data for this account.
