OSX 10.4.6 - mDNSResponder
Hi! When I open the console I always see some kind of error that happens very often and it seems like it's about my own computer IP that was given by my Vigor2200e router. Here is the error code:
mDNSResponder: ERROR: pktResponseHndlr - received malformed response to query for 2.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa. (12)
2.1.168.192 ... that is the intern LAN IP of my Quad. But who or what is the problem?
German: Bei Ansicht der Konsole ist ein Fehler sichtbar, der das Netzwerk betrifft und immer wieder auftritt. Dieser Fehler besagt, dass ein im Startprozess enthaltener DNS Responder die vom Router zugewiesene Adresse sucht und nicht findet bzw. diese nicht beantwortet wird. Anbei der Fehlercode:

Vielleicht relevant: Ich habe meinen Quad sowie einen Mac Mini auf einem Vigor2220e Router hängen. Alle Netzwerkeinstellungen sind richtig eingestellt.

I just installed Mavricks over Snow Lepard, and my boot speed is really slow and so is the quit time. From boot to ability to use apps. is slightly greater than 1 minute. Once the desk top appears, the icons in the dock and all aps are not active for at least 25-30 seconds. I would really appreciate any advice anyone more knowledgeable that I can offer. I have attached my system boot log from BOOT_TIME to 1 minute past the time on the clock when I logged in. (I apologize in advance for the length of the log, but hopefully it will suply the needed clues):

Here's what you can try:
Try these in order:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -
Unable to Install Flash Player 11.7.700.169 on OSX 10.7.5
I have tried everything I can think of to install your new version. On Sunday, I downloaded the 11.7.700.169 installation .dmg. When I double clicked on the Install Adobe Flash Player, it reported:

Downloading image
Installing Flash Player
I got prompted for my password, and responded. Then it reports a "General Installation Failure" and stops.
I have rebooted, run Disk Utility to repair permissions, uninstalled Flash Player, and eventually installed a downlevel version of Flash Player. I have tried to enter this message using Firefox, but your web site goes into a loop redirecting to https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=ca&returnurl=http://forums.adobe.com /adobe_login&loc=en

This turned out to be a permissions issue for me, your milage may vary. Note: This could be dangerous, you could always backup your file perms and put them back once flash is installed.
1. Open console on your mac, go to the system.log section
2. Attempt to install, after it downloads and fails use the "String Matching" at the top and type in "flash"
You should get a section that looks like this:

This could be dangerous, I'm not sure with the repercussions are. However, I do know I can use flash now. Obviously, if you aren't savy in terminal commands you shouln't be running them. I take no responsibility for any irresponsible actions, know what this means before you do it.

OSX Server Hangs on Blue screen at startup
We have an Xserve Running 10.5.8. We have been having strange issues for some weeks with client's logging in and their desktops being missing. Last Friday I noticed that the backup was not running correctly and I had a student who had lost her work mysteriously too. I decided to restart the server to see what would happen. On restart I cannot log in to the server either remotely or locally because after the white apple with spinner screen the machine goes to a blue screen with no login window. Services are up and running, I can view and use Server Admin and Workgroup Manager, and I can ssh into the server. I have trawled the internet in search of answers but all to no avail. There are some errors in the log but I am not familiar enough with these things to know which are significant to this problem. To further complicate matters the OSX server disk is nowhere to be found, hasn't been seen since well before I arrived on campus. I have ordered Snow Leopard for this machine but would like to get to the bottom of the issues.
I have booted into safe mode from ssh but this has made no change to the situation. I am relatively new to comand line management of macs so please don't assume I know how to use it like an old pro. I am learning rapidly.

Ever since i downloaded OSX Mountain Lion, Express VPN no longer works properly for me. Even though it says I am connected, webpages refuse to load. However, connection speed is fine when its turned off. I cannot go on many websites without the VPN. My current location is Shanghai, China. OSX Mountain was installed this morning and everything worked fine until then. Is Express VPN not supported? What do i need to do in order to get it working again on my Macbook Pro (early 2011). I want to be able to go on websites such as Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, ect...

I am having the same issue listed above on my new Mac Mini i just bought, I also contacted Express VPN support and got the same instructions with exception of the command to run in the utilities terminal. I tried the steps listed, and both commands (posted here, and sent to me directly by Express VPN support), and still unable to connect on my Mac Mini running OS X 10.8.2, but I am able to connect on my iPad and my MacBook which is running Mac OS X 10.6.8. Usually Express VPN is spot on with their customer support, but this is taking longer to get resolved. Here is the steps sent to me
Try doing the following to see if the problem gets resolved:
Please follow the instructions here: https://www.expressvpn.org/support/setting_dns_servers_mac_os
(should still be the same for Lion) and then add the following DNS servers: 8.8.8.8 & 208.67.222.220. After adding the DNS servers, please do the following steps as well:
Note: If you're connecting to your ISP via a PPPoE connection, then set the DNS servers on the PPPoE connection itself and then restart your computer for the DNS settings to take effect.
1. Click on Applications
2. Click on Utilities
3. Click on Terminal
4. Type the following command (without the quotes): "sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder"
5. Press enter and then try reconnecting to the VPN.
If you're still unable to connect, please send us in the latest log files.

I've been having a problem I see posted here often, with no real answers...
My MacBook Pro started becoming non-responsive (simply typing at times is lagging severely) at times and I get the spinning wheel of death that sometimes will last for several seconds to never stopping. When the wheel won't stop, I have to power off the unit and reboot.
I've done just about everything possible; software updates, checked firmware versions, verified and repaired permissions, verified the disk (no errors found), backed up the computer and re-installed the OSX. If it's been in the forums or advised by an Apple Genius, I've tried it. I've taken it to the Genius bar and had them check everything and reinstall everything. They say the HD is fine, the applications I have installed shouldn't be causing any problems, etc. etc. They just don't know what is causing this problem.
Nothing has worked for more than a day and it all starts again.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what may be causing this problem? Please help!Here's what I got. Maybe you can make better sense of it, but if I read your post correctly, it looks ok to me. I am going to take your suggest to download AppleJack and/or TinkerTool.

Hello Everyone,
Hope someone can help me figure this situation out. I have a Mac OS X Server running Lion 10.7.4. I created few users under WGM with OpenDirectory, some users are able to login but some are not able to login for some weird reasons. For example: I created a user called "test1" with /Users/test1 directory, I was able to login using test1 username and password. I created another user called "jimmyjohn" with /Users/jimmyjohn but I'm not able to login with this user account. Both accounts are created identical and I'm logging into the same machine. Any help is appreciated.

Is there any other place to look at it? -
MDNSResponder crashing every 10 seconds
iMac running OSX 10.8.4.
Have had periodic crashes over the last few months, but did a software update last night and its all got much worse.
The console is showing mDNSResponder crashing every 10 seconds.
In terms of apps, most apps I try to start end up with a "Not responding" process.
Any help appreciated.

Rebooting in safe mode, the 10 second crash cycle still happens.

Problem... Shutting Down on OSX but working on Windows
First of all - sorry for my English
The second one and most important:
After several minutes of working on OSX 10.5.5 - suddenly appears the shutdown window (Are you shure whant to shutdown your computer now) like I'm just push power button. If i catch up the moment and pres ESC - then it is fine, if not - my computer shutting down like i'll pushing the power button for 5-10 seconds (hard off).
Next - some times if i push power button - then with it pushed some other buttons (f11 or f10 or O or P maybe all together)
I havi a windows XP installing via BootCamp - and it works perfect for several hours without any troubles...
All software is up to date

Please help! Internet on parallels and through airport, but not in OSX??
I have snow leopard on MBP. At one of my places at work, when I connect to the network - I cannot get internet to work inside OS X - i.e. mail, safari, firefox - all do not work. However, if I start up parallels - the firefox and other programs within XP parallels work perfectly. What's more, if I enable internet sharing through airport, I can also use my ipod touch to connect to the internet through my MBP!! Inside OSX - most things do not work most of the time, and on occasion, microsoft entourage works for a bit...
Looking at little snitch, looks like a lot of active "local" network activity by natd and MDNSResponder - nonstop.
The console is full of messages... one today in a non-stop loop was:

It's a Lacie 2TB Ethernet with embedded XP
I saw on the net that it is a worldwide problem
I saw several solutions
I tried them, none works.
I took contact with Lacie, their answer.
We don't support that model anymore.
I didn't find any solution for this model
Can somebody help me out.

Sorry for kicking this,
but I have a permanent solution for this problem, it requires no changes at the client side, which I usually prefer.
You can actually log in to the Lacie XP Embedded system and upgrade the ExtremeZ-IP software it uses, it has a 25 user OEM version you can upgrade. Just make sure you have the latest installer ( ExtremeZ-IP 8.0.2x195 ) ready on the NAS (upload via FTP) to install.
The trick is to log in with Microsoft Remote Desktop as an administrator and visit the "Firewall" section. From here you can go to the exception screen and click "Add Program" From here you can browse to "Desktop" and right click on "My Computer" and choose "Open" from here you can launch any installer and program you wish to install.
So you need to upgrade the ExtremeZ-IP software and change the Bonjour Service to C:\Program Files\Group Logic\ExtremeZ-IP\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe after installation. Reboot and everything should work just fine, even with OSX Lion / Mountain Lion.
For safety, please make sure to backup the C:\Program Files\Group Logic folder and clear logs.

Wi-Fi issue in OSX Lion 10.7.2
Shall i begin to say i love Apple and their great products so much! iI bought a 27'' iMac with snow leopard on it. I really was excited about OSX Lion, and it definilty make it expantasion clear it's a great os!
However since the upgrade to Lion there are some issues with the wi-fi conection it sometimes drops then i must reconect the iMac to my router then it works agian. Also the internet connection is very slow. i tried anything you can think of: Switch of wi-fi and then turn it on agian, remove the wi-fi and then enter the same router,switch security settings,switch the channel,reset DRAM it does't solve the problem. I really hope Apple can fix this issue,Aside from the Lion wi-fi drops my iPad had a issue with wi-fi as well under iOS 4.2 the wi-fi sometimes dropped under iOS 5 this is solved.That does not work for me. I've done it numerous times on various wi-fi networks I use. On one unsecured network, the wi-fi connection came back automatically as I did other work, but I could not replicate how. Also, at two other locations that are important, and where I cannot influence the router settings (which work for all other user, as far as I can tell), I cannot restore the connection for the life of me. My wi-fi icon shows greyed-out bars with an exclamation point icon through the middle. I am on 10.7.4 now, but have had problems since 10.7.2. Here is some of the crap I get:

Error: "Could not complete your request because of a program error" (photoshop CS2 9.0.2 on MAC OSX
Today I started my program (photoshop CS2 9.0.2) and opened a JPG file. When I went to print the file the program crashed and closed. When I restarted the program and went to open the file I got this error message, "Could not complete your request because of a program error".
I have tried several different file types/sizes and all result in the same error message since the program crashed. It will not open any file I try to open. As I indicated above I am using Photoshop CS2 9.0.2 it is on a MAC with OSX 10.4.11.
I called Adobe and the Rep directed me to Tech Note 331307 and told me to Re-create the Photoshop preferences files. Which I did and restarted the program, but when I tried to open a file (any file) I still get the same error message so it doesn't appear to be the preferences.
Does anyone have any info as to what the problem may be and how to correct it.

My system I am running Photoshop on is a Power Mac G4, AGP Graphics ATY Rage 128Pro chip set 16MB VRAM LCD 1280x1024 32-bit color, 500MHz, 1.75GB of memory, 1 MB L2 Cache, 100 MHz Bus Speed. I had installed the latest security update and repaired the permissions the day the problem started.
Now to day I started the system and went in and created a Guest Account. I logged into the guest account and started Photoshop. Low and behold it worked just fine. So I logged out of guest and logged into my main user account And started Photoshop. Wouldn't you know it.... It works just fine. I can open any file I want with now problems.
I got to thinking after I had done all of this that I wished I had tried to open a file in Photoshop today prior to creating the guest account to see if it still had the problem in my main user account.
I did not change anything else on the system and all seems to work fine now. So at his point I am really not sure what the problem was.

Here is a discription of the problem. Please consider that some of the wording might not be correct, as I do have to translate the error message from German into English.
Using OSX 10.9.2, when clicking inside the adobe desktop app (top of the screen bar) on the tap "apps", the following screen (screenshot) appears, which states, translated from top to bottom:

All apps, like Bridge, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. are installed and work just fine. So no problem here. I seem however unable to redownload the desktop app (in order to reinstall). As stated above the provided link inside the desktop app itself is coruppted and within the (online) web-based download centre (user logged in) I am only adviced to use the desktop app. This is a dead end and I do not know what to make of this error, let alone solving it. I already restarted the desktop app and while I am obviously online and connected the problem (error message) remains the same. Information within the "home" tap is recieved/loaded (little blue spinning wheel) stating that various apps recently have been updated. Yet the same loading wheel within the "apps" tap results in an error. My best guess is that some internal link within the app is corrupted, leading to a source on a server that can not be reached.
UPDATE
I clean uninstalled adobe creative cloud as discribed in the article you provided (using the cleaner tool) and even uninstalled the browser plugin. After downloading and reinstalling creative cloud the problem however remains the same. "Apps" tap still shows the same problem. "Home" tap now displays the following: -
We used the Adobe Creative Suite for a long time in a situation where users login through on open directory osx server.
It worked fine until we started to use Adobe Creative Cloud. We use the Enterprise version.
Computers are very slow now, especially Indesign crashes a lot and can sometimes not even be opened anymore.
Has anybody experienced the same problems?
