OSX 10.4.9 - Keyboard CD Drawer ejection key won't work

I've two G5 Power PC's. Neither cd drawers will open after the latest OS download from apple. Anyone else experiencing this?

The Eject key now requires a longer keystroke to open. Is that right?? On my Mac it still would not work.
After hours of searching the Net and checking all my settings I found that it would not work because I have Slow Keys on as an accessibility feature to assist me with typing as I have a tremor in my hands.
Not Happy Apple!! Now I can either have easier typing or a CD drawer that functions... go figure!

  • Eject Key Won't Work while in Windows 8

I recently installed Windows 8 on my i-mac. I installed all the correct drivers needed from bootcamp. All my other function keys work except for my eject key. I have programs that use multiple disks to install. the only way i can eject disks is by right clicking and telling them to eject through the windows folder. During installation of the multi-disk programs the screen is taken over by them and i can't get to the windows folder to eject the disks when the next one is needed.
    Please Help!!!
I have already looked through the forums but can't find any solutions to my problem.

Hi, this says it's for Vista, but might it work for you?

  • Eject key doesn't work

I erased my hard drive on my G4 Quicksilver to get it ready to sell but something went wrong and now the eject key won't work.
This computer came with OS 9 and OS X already installed and I wanted to install both systems again after erasing the hard drive. I wanted to be able to boot up into both systems like before.
The first time I did the installation I found I couldn't boot up into OS 9 so I figured I had forgotten to check the Install OS 9 Driver box.
The second time I tried to do the install I got to the point where the Install Disk 1 was ejected and I was asked to put in Install Disk 2. I took out Disk 1 and then I was interrupted and had to leave the room. When I came back a few minutes later the disk tray had closed without Disk 2 being inserted and I couldn't get it to open by using the eject key.
I think that in order to get OS 9 back onto the computer I will have to use the other 4 disks I have that are labeled Software Restore Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. Not sure what the right order is to do this.
However I can't do anything until i can get the eject key to work,
I'd appreciate any help I can get with this.
    Thanks

Thanks Tex, I got it to work somehow I bumbled through again. I got the tray to open by using the f12 key. I was able to continue installing the rest of the disks and then updated everything. I repaired permissions and after all of that the eject key started working again.
I appreciate your help., thanks for the article it will come in useful.

  • Upgraded OSX  10.3.9 to 10.4.10  eject key no longer works?

I recently upgraded my dual 800 MHz Power PC G4 from 10.3.9 to 10.4.10 and have had several small problems I am trying to work out as follows:
eject key will not work on apple pro keyboard....tried two other keyboards and none of them worked...you can eject the disc from iTunes and other software driven apps
can no longer print on CD's or DVD's to my Epson Stylus Photo 960 using Epson Print CD software and driver version 1.56 or new beta2 version 5.0.0...suspect this is a Classic problem as the software runs in Classic mode.
Any help would be much appreciated....I really need to use the eject key and would like to print on DVD's again!
    Thanks

You have to hold the eject key for a few seconds unless you are using it in combination with another key.

  • Fn Keys and Eject Keys Don't Work in Windows

I'm fairly good to go with Snow Leopard and Boot Camp and on installing Windows on my wife's 13" MacBook Pro that I finally convinced her to get, I had a "hard drive not big enough" during the SP3 update BUT found a solution for that, however, all the threads I read on the above topic related to Boot Camp versions of the 2.x genre and I have 3.x genre. So, does anyone have any ideas how to fix this on the Windows side?
    - All function keys (excepted F3) are non-functional.
    - Eject key does not work
    - No right click of any kind other than with a mouse
    - No scroll features
    - No Boot Camp icon in the tray
Lastly (and just an add in) on the OSX side, her Mac HD icon was not there since the Boot Camp assistant was launched AND dummy me (I did this once before - I know idiot) tried to drag it from Finder to the desk top and exploded it. So, how do I get the Mac HDD and icon back in both Finder AND the Desktop.
Thanks in advance for those who have an offering.

Actually I didn't trash Boot Camp, it never populated in the tray after the install. Moreover, the thing i destroyed was the MacHDD from the desktop and from the Go Finder listing and want to get that puppy back
Boot Camp is running just that the F keys other than F3 are not functional nor is the Eject key . . PLUS . . as I say there is no tap to click, not two finger scrolling, and no 3 or 4 finger functions operational features.
    Please help!

  • I upgrades my mac operating system to OSX 10.9.4 and now my Dreamweaver CS5 won't work, it just quits unexpectedly.  please help.

I upgrades my mac operating system to OSX 10.9.4 and now my Dreamweaver CS5 won't work, it just quits unexpectedly.  Please help.

    Remove preferences on Mac OS
    Quit Dreamweaver.
In the Finder, navigate to /Users/Your User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe.
    Rename the Dreamweaver preferences folder:
Dreamweaver CS5: Rename the Dreamweaver CS5 folder to, for example, Old Dreamweaver CS5.
    Navigate to /Users/Your User Name/Library/Preferences.
    Rename the Dreamweaver preferences file:
Dreamweaver CS5: Rename the Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Prefs file to, for example, Old Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Prefs.
    Try to re-create problem
After you have removed your existing preferences, restart Dreamweaver. The application creates new preferences files, folders, and registry entries, as applicable, using the default settings.
Then try to re-create the problem that you had before.
If the problem was resolved, then damaged preferences was the cause.
If the problem persists, then the preferences are not the cause and you can replace the original preferences.
    To replace the original preferences:
    Quit dreamweaver.
Delete the new preferences folder and restore the original name of the previous folder.

  • Hi, iPak II user.  Two keyboard keys won't work, and the picture goes haywire sometimes, flashing itself, bak to old stuff, typing in the safari line, all this going on vey fast.   Any fixes out there?

Hi, iPak II user.  Two keyboard keys won't work, and the picture goes haywire sometimes, flashing itself, bak to old stuff, typing in the safari line, all this going on vey fast.   Any fixes out there?

Sounds like it could be a hardware problem.
Try a restart or reset to see if that helps. If not, contact Apple Support.
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

  • HT2448 I have a Macally Keyboard with no Eject key.  What do I use instead?

The HT2448 article shows all kinds of shortcuts for shutdown, restart, etc  They all use the Eject key in the upper right corner of an Apple Keyboard.  But one of my computers has a Macally keyboard without Eject.  Is there some other key I can use?  I've tried F12, but that does nothing.  Is there some escape sequence I can use to recode a key, like F12, to get it to act like an Eject key?

Is it the Restart/Shutdown options you want?
The key combo of Control+Eject, (F12), may bring up the Restart/Shutdown Dialog box and the 1st letter of each will select that button.
Command+Option+esc = Bring up Force Quit window
    Command+Control+eject = Restart immediately
    Command+Option+Control+eject = Shutdown immediately
    Command+Control+power button = Force restart

  • Apple Keyboard volume & eject keys don't work

Not sure when it started (within the past week), but my eMac's eject and volume keys aren't working. I tried the following from other threads:
    Delete BezelServices plists---all of them
    Restart
    Log in as different user
    Unplug and replug keyboard
Shut down, unplug eMac for a few minutes, boot
    Repair Permissions
I don't have USB Overdrive installed, and I checked just in case.
I have a 3rd party SuperDrive installed, but it's been there for several months.
Only thing I might have installed lately is iLife '06 over my old iLife 05.

    hi there--
have you tested it removing all peripheral devices?? some things to try-- boot to open firmware holding apple-option-o-f and then type in the following commands--
    reset-nvram (hit return)
    set-defaults (hit return)
    reset-all (hit return)
the last command restarts the computer. if those things don't help, then i would boot to the install disk and run disk repair. make sure it is the tiger install disk. hold c until you a spinning cog under the apple, then once you see the window requesting a language, go forward one window. then go up to the utilities menu at the top of the screen and select "disk utility" then select the macintosh hd, or something else if you have renamed your harddrive. then click repair disk. do this a few times if necessary. after several times it should say "no repairs necessary". let me know if that works out for you. • ITunes 7.1.1 eject key no longer works

Since updating to iTunes 7.1.1 the eject key (keyboard) no longer works, anyone else have this happen? Have to use GUI eject key in iTunes and DVD player.
Power Mac G4 Sawtooth, iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Well, I'm not sure about this being a feature.
Reason is that, when I go to eject my iPod using the GUI my CD tray ALSO started ejecting. And now the CD tray ejects (no CD in it I may add) and the iPod didn't eject but froze. SO what's up with the eject sequences (a feature causing me hassles).
This latest iTunes 7 update is really making me upset. It wasn't broken for me before.

  • Volume and Eject Keys No Longer Work After Boot Camp 2.1 Update

Earlier this evening I allowed the Apple Software Update app in Windows to update Boot Camp to version 2.1. I allowed the computer to restart following a successful installation of the update. I've restarted two more times since then. Ever since the update (including before the computer restarted for the first time following the update), the volume and eject keys on my keyboard don't work. I also have an Apple Wireless Keyboard (one of the 2003-2007 era white/clear ones) and it exhibits the same problem. Both keyboards otherwise work fine. The computer also otherwise works fine, and there's no evidence of any driver problems.
    Some other potentially relevant information:
1- The Boot Camp icon is no longer present in the Windows System Tray.
2- The Boot Camp Control Panel is still present in the Windows Control Panel and it works fine.
3- All settings in the Boot Camp Control panel are unchanged from their defaults. In particular, I have confirmed that "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" is still unchecked.
4- The Windows Device Manager properly recognizes both keyboards as Apple Keyboards.
I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate on an early 2008 MacBook; system specs are in my signature. Any ideas?
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and double-thanks if you can respond with any suggestions!

Ah, the joy of working with computers...:( Apparently, from my woes with the same problem, the Apple Keyboard Manager is rightfully entered into the Run directory in the Windows registry at HKLM/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Run.
Why it doesn't start I still have to find out, but this may be because I have Parallels Workstatio installed as well and switch back between a virtualized Windows and a Bootcamp Windows. However, after installing Bootcamp 2.1 first and then SP3 IN THE BOOTCAMP ENVIRONMENT everything seems to work, except the Energy Options taskbar icon and Apple Keyboard Manager.
Will keep you posted on any progress I make.
Apple Support, BTW, was absolutely abysmal, with them even refusing to accept the ticket at all, on the grounds that they have no knowledge about Windows. Apple, get your support fixed!
