OSX 10.5.4 printing to HP Deskjet via USB on Time Capsule

Mac has a problem printing to a Deskjet 6122 connected USB to a Time Capsule. The Time Capsule is set up as a LAN wireless access point to the ISP.
Wireless clients are:
1. Macbook with Leopard OSX V10.5.4. All OSX updates were applied Dec 5, 2008 in the shop when the Mac got a new HDD and the Leopard upgrade.
2. A Windows Vista box (Time Capsule runs 802.11g because of the wireless adapter in this box).
Printers on the LAN are:
1. HP Deskjet 6122 connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule, and
2. HP Laserjet 1022NW connected Ethernet to the Time Capsule.
Printer sharing is OFF for both printers/clients
Addition of both printers to the Mac was normal. +*But when printing multiple page documents to the Deskjet 6122, the Mac only prints one page*+ (the last one) without error message of any kind. The Mac’s driver version for this printer is 3.3.3. I deleted the printer from the Mac and re-added it – same problem. I followed the procedure in “Printer Troubleshooting for Airport Base Stations and Time Capsule” – same problem.
The Mac prints all pages of multiple page documents to the Laserjet 1022. The Windows box prints all pages of multiple page documents to both printers.
Any ideas?

Thanks Greg.
I don't want to hijack RetP3Pilot's thread, but I may be having a similar issue.
I've recently been experiencing a "connection failure" error when trying to print to my HP Deskjet 950 connected to a Time Capsule via Bonjour. I tried your suggestion of using the latest Gutenprint driver and adding the printer via IP Address. It appears to connect but anything I send to it stalls at 24% and there is no visible activity going on with the printer. ANy suggestions are welcome.
Again, sorry to hijack the thread. Let me know if you'd rather I start a new one.

So you plugedd the printer into the time capsule usb right?
You need to re-add the printer in the system preferences one more time because the location has moved.

  • Cannot print with HP Laserjet 1022 when connected with USB to Time Capsule

    Installed HP drivers
Connected HP 1022 (not the network printer) with USB to Time Capsule
Printer appears in "Standard" section of printers, marked with Bonjour
    Correct driver is selected
When printing, printer appears to be connected. Printer queue shows the item being managed and no errors are posted. After a rather long time, the print disappears into the void. This goes for the test page too.
Connected the printer directly to my iMac with USB, no problems at all.
I would prefer to have it connected to the Time Capsule though...

Getting it to work with Windows is super-easy. You'll need to install the printer's drivers and Bonjour for Windows ( http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/windows/bonjourforwindows.html ). Install both of those, open Bonjour, select the printer, done.
I have no experience with Linux, sorry.

  • HP Deskjet 3550 cannot print using Airport Extreme via USB connection on Windows 7 64 bits

Product Name and Number: HP Deskjet 3550 Inkjet Printer
Operating System installed: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits
    Error message: None
Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred: Setting up HP printer using Airport Utility to add a new printer and installed Bonjour Print Wizard.
Problem: My printer is already set up using Airport Utility. When I print something, the printer doesn't do anything. Is there something I haven't done lately in order to get this printer working using my wifi router?
Suggestion #1: Are the print jobs getting stuck in the print queue? You can check this by clicking on the printer icon in your task tray by the clock.
Error Message #1: Yes, the print job got stuck in the print queue, but the moment, it disappeared from the print queue and the printer doesn't print at all. This is frustrating.
Suggestion #2: Does the printer work as expected if you connect it directly to the PC via USB?
Error Message #2: Yes, the printer works if I connect it directly to my PC via USB, but I don't understand why it wouldn't work with the wifi router, though.
Suggestion #3: This has to do with the way the router handles the connection to the printer. I found another thread, regarding this issue, and it has some information that may help resolve it.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/Print-Problem-Using -USB-Printer-on-Airp...
If that does not help, I would recommend posting on the Apple forums, as they may have more expertise with the router's abilities:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/wireless/airport
Error Message #3: After clicking on the first link that you posted, it was very helpful, but the printer couldn't print completely and somehow it would stop at the quarter of a paper. It looks incomplete when I took it out from my printer. It does that every time.

    UPDATE!
Problem solved!  So this is just a followup in case someone else ever stumbles into these boards with the same or similar problems as mine, that is, trying to run an HP Deskjet D1500 series printer [mine's a D1520] on an Airport Extreme wifi router's USB port as a network printer [with the Airport Extreme controlled by an ancient G4 PowerMac Quicksilver currently running OS X 10.4.11).
Although it probably SHOULDN'T matter, since this type of printer works fine with just the Tricolor cartridge as shipped when hooked up directly to a computer's USB port, on a hunch I got a black HP cartridge (that's a type 21, not type 22 as I had earlier said), slapped it in, tried a test page, and all's well.  So, we can call off the technoid hounds.  Everything running perfectly.
I hope this message in a bottle may help someone else out there some day soon who may be scratching his or her head with a similar stumper.  And just to recap those important Windows printer settings, they are:
    * [Printer Properties--> Ports--> Add New Port...] "Standard TCP/IP Port"
    * [Configure Port] IP Address "10.0.1.1" and Port "9100"
    Best of luck!

  • How can I print via the AirPort Time Capsule on a Windows 7?

    Hey,
First of all, I am really inexperienced about all these things. I have a MacBook from 2009 with OSX Lion and a PC Windows 7 x64. I have got a time capsule (https://www.mikepalmer.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/apple-time-capsule.jpg) connected to my router
and then another router in my room (probably working as an acces point) to which I  wirelessly connect my Windows 7.
The thing is that I can see the printer (HP Laserjet P1005) from my Mac but I don't know how to add it to my windows. On a previous PC I added a printer to the time capsule's IP 192.168.1.2 and printed with a considerable delay that way.
As you can see I don't understand how networks work, how IP's work, or how ports work in this matter.
Any help will be much appreciated!!

    Hi PGMLEBL,
I am not familiar with Mac product, the best way is ask the HP printer support for the detail support, generally if we know the printer IP address we can add it through add
a network printer, you may can refer the following third party article to add the printer:

  • Printer won't connect via USB

Bought a brand new iMac, and have a Brother HL 2230 printer only 1 year old.  I installed the lastest driver from Brother website...had printer connected and working.  It wouldn't stay online though when computer went to sleep etc...so i had to keep resetting the printer or unplugging and plugging the USB back in.  Now the printer was offline and nothing would work.  Deleted the printer and now i can't get anything to connect.  Computer doesn't recognize at all when USB is plugged in...printer has been reset multiple times, re-installed the drivers, deleted other items from other support suggestions, reset the printer settings and computer...still don't get anything. Completely out of ideas and don't want to buy a new printer!!

Hi there @Milliecat, welcome to the forums
I read through your post about the troubles you are having with connecting your printer to your Windows Vista PC, via USB connection.
I am looking for some more information from you, to help me better research the issue and determine which troubleshooting steps I should recommend for your issue specifically.
    1. Do you have the Deskjet 2540 or a different model of printer?
How Do I Find My Model Number?
    2. When you run the installation disk or download, what exactly are the errors or issues you see happen during the installation? (If you could send me a screen shot of the error, that would be a bonus).
    3. Have you tried to install the printer on your PC using a different connection method, such as Ethernet or Wireless?
    4. In the meantime, try running the Print and Scan Doctor tool which may fix the problem. If there is a more serious issue, the tool will alert you to it. Please let me know the results or send a screen shot!
    Have a wonderful Friday!
    Hope to hear from you!

  • Trouble w/ Wireless Printing to HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Using Time Capsule

    Hi there –
    My Setup:
    New MacBook Pro
    Comcast Internet (Wireless Router)
2TB Time Capsule (Setup as "New Network" and connected to wireless router via Ethernet WAN)
HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 All-In-One (Wireless - not wired connection - and using Wireless Direct)
I am trying to let the HP Printer be wireless only. When I run on the Comcast wireless network using the SSID and Password of our default home network (not using new Time Capsule network), I can print from all my devices (MBP, iPhone, etc) wirelessely just fine.
When I create the new Wireless network using the Time Capsule, and configure the printer with the SSID and password, I cannot connect to the printer.
Should the configuration be different in the case where I use the TC network?
I have also tried setting up the HP printer as a WPS Printer, and I had the same results...nothing.
    Anyone have any advice?
    Thanks!
    Daniel

Do you mean at the Comcast Wireless gateway?
No .. from what you wrote the Comcast works ok .. it is the TC that is not working.
    That is correct?
Is the TC in bridge mode.. but creating a wireless network?? That is how it should be connected and wireless should be different name to the comcast if you are trying to troubleshoot.
If the network name on the TC is compliant then the printer should connect..
Turn off the wireless security on the TC to see if it is the problem.
Once you complete this setup it is very important for you to reboot the whole network.. restart in correct order.. modem.. TC .. clients.. 2min gap.
Then make sure all the clients are connecting to the wireless on the TC not the wireless from the comcast.

  • Printing to the network via USB Ethernet

I have a pair of MacBook Air's that are using the USB Ethernet adapter to connect to the local ethernet (wireless is not an option, all workstations must be wired while in-house.)
The problem I run into is that both of these MBA's will loose their connectivity to the printers, or their ability to see bonjour devices at all, or Appletalk devices. In particular, I've installed a set of OkiData printers on the network which support both Bonjour & Appletalk. When I setup the printers as IP printers, they seem to work fine. However, if they, or any other printer, is connected as a Bonjour device, eventually the MBA stops recognizing/seeing/looking up Bonjour items on the network.
Any thoughts on why this is or how to correct it would be really useful, especially since some day the users might like to do some bonjour-based file sharing.
    Thanks!

I have a client with the exact same problem. No bonjour when attached via USB ethernet (Apple's own) SOMETIMES. However, I've noticed that if she unplugs and tries the other usb slot, it seems to work (immediately, no reboot). I've actually only told her to do this over the phone, but it has worked at least twice.
One problem here is that the printers are NOT accessible via bonjour over WLAN, since the WLAN is at least 2 different C class networks.
The other is that due to the setup of the printers and crap drivers from Ricoh, using personalized printer queues only works over Bonjour and not TCP. Thus, only USB ethernet can be used for printing. It would be very interesting to hear if changing usb ports might help in your case as well. This particular client has a late 2010 MBA 4G/128G, but at the same department there are at least 7 MBAs where no-one has had the same problem. Either that, or they had it but never told me.

  • LocalTalk printer using AsanteTalk isn't recognized by Time Capsule

I can't seem to find a post I thought I saw earlier on this topic.
I upgraded to Time Capsule with a new iMac. I have a LaserWriter 4/600 PS printer which uses AsanteTalk to allow it to be used using AppleTalk.
I have AppleTalk enabled on Ethernet in Time Capsule. But the printer just does not show up as a printer to be added. It worked fine with my old Airport Extreme (G version). But it doesn't seem to work with Time Capsule.
Asante has only given me their standard responses on how to set it up. But it isn't working. Has the way AppleTalk is set up on Time Capsule changed from Airport Extreme? Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks.

I respectfully differ with Stanley Talor1. I have a Mac mini connected to a Time Capsule printing to a LaserWriter Select 360 via the AsanteTalk. 10.5.5 on the Mac mini. NOTE: AppleTalk is not supported by the Time Capsule via a wireless connection, but if you have one Mac connected wired, Printer Sharing can be used for wireless clients.
This printer was working fine when I first set it up, but stopped working for a period of weeks. Since it was working with the original firmware on the Time Capsule, I don't think it is related, but I did update the firmware to version 7.3.2, current at the time of this writing.
I've used AsanteTalk devices with various networks and always found them a bit problematic. Be sure you are not using more than the supported 8 LocalTalk devices and also make sure the AsanteTalk is the first device in the LocalTalk daisy chain. Asante does not recommend the use of a serial cable to connect a printer, but I have found this works just fine with some printers. The supported method of connection is with LocalTalk adapters, properly terminated at the beginning and end of the chain.
I think the key to getting this configuration to work is the startup sequence of devices. Turning a printer on and off without resetting the AsanteTalk could lead to problems. Here's the sequence:
    1. Power up the printer and wait until it is fully initialized.
    2. Power up the AsanteTalk and wait until it is initialized.
    3. Print
If there are still problems after the above sequence, leave all devices powered on and unplug the Ethernet cable from the AsanteTalk to the Time Capsule, wait a few seconds and plug it back in.
Hope this helps. It works for my particular set up.

  • Installing HP Printer software on MBP linked to a Time Capsule

Hi. I have installed the latest mac compatible HP software onto our MacBook Pro ("MBP") but could not complete the installation sequence as the software could not find the device (the printer). The MBP has two available wireless networks - the router ('Livebox' - we are in France) and our local network (the MBP, our old iMac and the Time Capsule with the HP2610 printer attached). We have read that the Time Capsule can act as the printer server and have been using it to print successfully. However the scanner and other features have not been working, hence the attempt at the re-install. The IP address for the Time Capsule / Airport is not accepted by the HP software. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Resolved. We had connected the printer via a USB not an ethernet cable. Beginner's mistake. HP helpdesk again v good. Mac is 802.11g compatible which is what HP run. Au revoir ....

  • Can I print wirelessly using my iPhone to a printer that I have connected to a time capsule?

I have a printer connected via USB port on the time capsule, and I have the printer shared throughout the network. The printer is not an ePrint model. Since the printer is in my network, can I use my iphone or ipad to print documents?

If you have a Mac running on the network, try Printopia.
There is a free trial, so you will know if will work before you buy. There are other apps that can do this as well, but I cannot offer a specific recommendation.

  • Error printing both wireless and via USB

Hi my printer is a HP deskjet 3050A all in one.
It stopped communicating with the computers in the house when we were having internet issues.Tthe modem was reset.
I have unistalled it and reinstalled the printer and the drivers and I can send the documents to the correct printer from both the desktop and the laptop, but then I am getting an error printing message. when I click on to see what's printing, the document is listed in the queue but it is showing a document with three circles on it rather than a Word Document.
This is happening from both computers and with both connected and wireless printing.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hey @soleruler,
If the printer doesn't show under the Programs and Features list on your Windows 8.1 systems than that generally indicates that your Deskjet 3050a e-All-in-One Printer was most likely not installed properly in the first place. You certainly can use the  'Remove Device' option under 'Devices and Printers' on those 3 computers to remove the old copies of the printer. Just make sure that there is no print jobs stuck in the queue when you go to remove the device. Print jobs stuck in the queue will cause the printer to go into a 'removing' status but the Deskjet wont delete until the jobs are deleted. To check the print queue just right click on the printer under Devices and Printers and left click on 'See What's Printing'. If anything is in the box then just right click on it and 'cancel' the jobs. Once cancelled, then you can proceed with the 'Remove Device' option.
Let me know how these steps go for you. Good luck!

  • Hp laserjet 100 color mfp m175 does not print from network nor via usb cable

My hp laserjet 100 color mfp m175 just stopped printing last week. I have tried everything recommended but nothing works. I have re-install it both on wireless network and usb connection = nothing works. It prints all internal reports but nothing from any computer. I have 3 computers which I have tried to print from. It even does not print the test page. Please dont recommend to update drivers etc. as I have spend 2 whole days on this and nothing works!

    Hi @einar1854,
I see by your post that you are unable to print by a USB or Wireless connection on 3 different computers, but the printer will print the hardware self tests. I can help you with this.
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
For the USB connection, follow these steps if the there are no errors from the Print and Scan Doctor.
(once we get the printer printing this way, we can setup the wireless)
Here are steps to remove the jobs from the spool folder and restart the print spooler.
How to Clear Current Print Queue In Windows Vista & Windows 7.
Follow the steps in this document to get to the device manager to check for the printer entries.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
Then click on Identifying problems in Windows Device Manager.
In the list click on Universal Serial Bus controllers and look for USB mass storage device and USB printing support, (make sure any other printers are turned off or disconnected)
Let me know what it showed in the device manager.
Check to make sure the proper port is selected.
Go to start, Devices and Printers, right click the printer and left click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
Make sure the USB has a check mark beside it, if not put the check mark there and apply the changes.
    Check the print Queue.
In the Devices and Printers folder.
Right-click the name of the product and then click See what's printing .
Click the Printer button, then click Cancel All Documents if there are any documents in the queue.
Click Yes to confirm the action.
If documents remain in the print queue, restart the computer.
    Try printing again.
What operating system are you using on the 3 computers? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
Print a configuration page to see also if the printer has a valid IPV4 address, so we have that information for when we setup the wireless. Printing a Configuration Report.
Provide the first 3 sets of numbers in the IPV4 address.
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.
