OSX 10.5.7 seems to mess up DHCP on my Linksys WRT54G2

Our config: home, wired and wireless LAN. 2 PC's with Win on Wired Lan. 2 MBPs (one new and one old) working on both wired and wireless. And some other less used machines like an old Mac. O, and Xbox, Xbox360. Router Linksys WRT54G2.
All of this has been working for months. Router is setup to provide LAN-devices IP via DHCP.
I also use my new MBP while commuting: it then uses wireless internet.
Since i upgraded to 10.5.7 it seems that whenever i connect my MBP to the LAN, the router doesn't issue an IP-address to my Mac (my Mac self assigns an 169.xxx-address. Worse: all other machines on the LAN loose their IP-address! I need to reboot the Linksys a couple of times, and then it works again ... I think there even was a time the problem occured some time later, while i was still working & connected.
Is it really me/my MBP? Well, it looks like it, since as long as i'm not home, the family is happily connecting their machines to the internet without problems.
First i thought it might be the router, so i upgraded to the latest Linksys. Did not help. I have searched the internet for a couple of weeks now. I have tried creating a new location on my Mac: did not help. I have tried switching from DHCP to DHCP+Manual IP and back (read that somewhere): did not help.
I wish i could role back the update, and see whether that would solve the problem, so i know for sure it is this 10.5.7 update that is causing the problem. But after trying all kinds of things for a couple of weeks now, it really looks to be the 10.5.7 upgrade.
Anybody with ideas? If i need to provide more info, please let me know what i left out. And please don't assume i haven't tried the obvious, even if i forgot to mention it here. But if in doubt, ask me, and i'll let you know .

@Nerowolfe. 1st of all: thank you for your reply & time!
The WRT54G2 is a brand new Linksys. I know Linksys for being a good brand, and assume the fact it concerns a new model, should mean basic stuff like DHCP should not be a problem. On the other hand i know everything is possible with computers . That said: i did an upgrade to the newest router firmware on purpose: i did not in the 1st place look for the problem with 10.5.7. But after having tried to rule out everything else, and having noticed the problem started (as i recall) the moment i had upgraded, i think 10.5.7 plays a role.
I thought to post my experience and idea here, to see whether other people have similar problems. That might eventually lead to a solution.
I will (did not yet do that) also post my problem at the Linksys-forum, as i agree, it might be the combination.
But it does look like something changed in the network parts of 10.5.7 compared to its predecessor. And i would hope some engineer would know what that change is and be able to explain what the problem might be?
I know changing anything is a risk. But also that upgrades most of the time need to be applied for security reasons? You say: make a backup. What is the easiest way to do that? I normally backup my data, but not the whole system. I would hope it would be possible to role back any update; that would be good engineering?
Anyway: the problem still exists, and any help is welcomed! If my post at Linksys leads to a resolution, i will post it here.

As you can see, the namespace declaration on the Period element has been dropped leaving a namespace prefix that is now not bound to anything. The document is, needless to say, now invalid.
I suspect that this is a problem caused by having embedded namespaces that are equal but that are using different namespace prefixes, i.e.
    xmlns:gam="http://digitalsteps.com/schema/gamma"; and
    xmlns:g="http://digitalsteps.com/schema/gamma".

Hi, i've been discussing the problems with the recent driver update here in another thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12854782#12854782
10.6.5 did come with new kexts (the dates just didn't change because they are using the same directories, but the version numbers for the kexts are all new).
Unfortunately there are no fixes yet - we are hoping that 10.6.6 update will bring new stable drivers, otherwise the fix will be to revert back to 10.6.4

  • Page copy seems to mess up item validation referenced fields in new page

    Hello team,
this morning i create two pages as a copy of an existing page in Apex 4.0.1.
This page contained 4 regions, each one containing 4 items, sort of:
    reg1
    P44_ITEM_A1
    P44_ITEM_B1
    P44_ITEM_C1
    P44_ITEM_D1
    reg2
    P44_ITEM_A2
    reg4
    P44_ITEM_D4
There were field item validations defined on each pair of items P44_ITEMCn - P44_ITEMDn and each validation was associated with its corresponding field (the element attribute linking the validation with the error message visualization i mean).
After creating the new page, i saw that some of these validations in the new page had lost their associated item attribute value or they were associated to the item with the highest item sequence, for instance P44_ITEM_A1 lost its associated item, while P44_ITEM_D1 was associated to P44_ITEM_D4.
I just did this again a few seconds ago, so i am pretty sure this is a repeatable error.

    Hi Flavio,
I was able to reproduce this, of sorts. I created 2 regions each containing 4 page items, named in the way you describe. Then created item validations on all of those page items. Copied the page and the copied page contains some validations with a null 'Associated Item' value. Although, none were changed to a different item as you describe, in my test case.
I have filed bug #10198224 for this issue.
    Thanks for reporting.

  • Firefox seems to mess around with URLs containing certain non-alphanumeric characters.

When I try to access the URL http://www.the-dma.org/consumers/ [followed by anything - or nothing], I get a screen that says "Firefox can't find the server at www.dmaconsumers.org." - but, as you can see, that isn't the URL I was asking for. If I leave off everything after "the-dma.org", it works.
[Incidentally, in this block of this form, when I highlight text and click on either the '''Bold''' or ''italic'' buttons, it is put in quotes instead.]

Yes, as far as I can tell.

I just recently updated my MacBook Pro to 10.8.4 and now Safari, Messages, iTunes, and the App Store don't work. They "Shut down unexpectedly" as soon as I click on them.

Consider this with any OS update, major or not:
D/load Mountain Lion Cache Cleaner and:
    1) perform:
    - permission repair
    - prebinding rebuilding
    - scripts cleaning
    Restart if needed.
    2) Relaunch MLCC and clean all caches deeply.
Restart. it will be slow but it also willlbe getting faster while working.

You may get some errors when trying to connect to the wireless connection.
    LIST OF PROBLEMS:
    -Auto-Assigned IP with 255.255.0.0 Subnet Mask and a 169.x.x.x IPV4 Address
-Unable to renew the DHCP beacuse the DHCP doesn't send the IPV4 address to your iMac/MacBook
    -No IP
    FINAL FIX:
-Log to the Router Configuration page inserting the default gateway address in your browser bar(It should be 192.168.1.1 though my default gateway is 192.168.0.1.....nevermind).
-Go to DHCP tab and make sure that DHCP is ENABLED
-Go to Wireless Settings and set Channel to "1" and the Wireless mode to 802.11 bg(In some routers it's 802.11 bg mixed)instead of 802.11 bgn or 802.11 n.(IN SOME ROUTERS THERE'S ONLY .11 and not 802.11....that's the same s**t though!)
    -Reboot your router
-Shut down your machine and unplug the power cables
-When done press once the power button
-Re-Plug the power cables and turn on your MacBook/iMac
-Go to Network Settings,Advanced settings,TCP/IP and set IPV4 address to DHCP

  • HELP me with my Big MESS-- external bootable hardrive

Ok so first off, my beloved TiBook has seemingly left me. Actually the hardrive is dead, and many of my files have been backed up onto my Lacie firewire drive (there are about 15 free gb). I have also bought a intel mac mini as another system, and own the panther install discs. Is there anyway without disruptting the info already stored on the external drive, to make a bootable version of OSX? I cant seem to do it on my own..... I boot from the OSX discs and disk utilty can "see" the drive but it never comes up as an option as where to install, also for some reason disk utility wont let me mount my Lacie. I know this whole mess could have been avioded by doing a HD copy beforehand but, hindsight is a muther..... Please advise, I suppose i could just have my hardrive fixed (how difficult is this to do, could i do it myself?), but i was hoping for a "cheaper" temporary solution since i was thinking I already had all of the pieces, please advise.

Hi, bigseppi. I'm not certain that I completely understand your post or what you hope to do, so if the following comments are partly off target, excuse me.
Your internal hard drive doesn't show up as a possible place to install Panther if the drive is, as you say, dead. If there has been a hardware failure, you won't be able to solve it except by replacing the drive — an easy 10-minute do-it-yourself job (instructions are in your Powerbook Getting Started user manual).
Replacing the internal drive would enable you to install Panther on the new one and then restore your data to it from the LaCie drive.
Disk Utility should "see" and mount the LaCie drive, and your Panther installer should recognize it as a possible installation site. If neither of those things happens, that's a mystery. Did you originally format the LaCie drive with the Disk Utility that came with Tiger? If you connect it to your MacIntel Mini, does it mount normally on that machine?

  • Aerendercore on OSX and [NSMenu menuID]: unrecognized selector sent to instance

    Hi,
I'm trying to run aftereffects in background in OSX using NativeProcess in Adobe AIR. To do it, I need to run the aerendercore in /Contents/aerendercore.app/Contents/MacOS/aerendercore as I'm not able to call an .app directly.
However, I always this error : aerendercore[3658:903] -[NSMenu menuID]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x12f5089e0.
I also get this error if run directly in terminal, and on all computer having AEFX here at the office.
Does anobody knows how to run it without getting this error ?
    Thanks

I just tried running  After Effects CS5.app/Contents/After Effects and I still get the same error (plus some initialization messages).
So I'm really unable to After Effects as a Native Process on OSX. On windows it was fast and easy. It is the .app folder thing that seems to mess everything.
Does anybody have a clue, or maybe I'm better to ask on the Adobe Air forum ?

  • In upgrading to OSX 10.9.2 I lost my keynote what can I do

After installation, I am unable to locate my KeyNote application? Where did it go? How do I retrieve it?  Seems a high price to pay just ot upgrade to the latest OSX. Everything else seems to be there along with some new applications.

The notation "Mac OS X (10.6.8)" comes from your profile. You could have entered it when you signed up for these forums a couple of years ago or any time since. Now that you are on 10.9.2, you should update it by selecting "Profile" from the "Your Stuff" list near the upper right corner of this page.
Did you originally install iWork onto the same hardware you are now using (but maybe on 10.6.8), or might you have migrated it from some previous hardware/system? Is your original iWork disk the '09 version?
Actually, unless you originally installed iWork '05, you should have a Universal Binary version, so my mention of Rosetta above would not apply.
Updating iWork to the Mavericks-only version should have moved the old versions into a new  /Applications/iWork '09 folder.

  • Ibook g3 OSX 10.2.8 was upgraded to 10.4 but screen went black, sound fine.  How do I revert to 10.2.8 with blank screen?

So here's what happened.  The Apple Store Geniuses generously upgraded my ibook g3 with OSX 10.2.8 to OSX 10.4 via USB port since my CD drive no longer works.  But the screen suddenly went black, sound was fine.  Genius was stumped, but when I restarted later I very briefly got an initial screen plus the music that accompanies an initial OS installation before screen went black again.  I really think that OSX 10.4 was more than my ibook g3 could handle.  I don't recall the specifications anymore and can't check them with a black screen, but capacity was fairly limited.  I went back to Apple a few weeks ago to ask them to downgrade my poor ibook g3 to OSX 10.3 which seems more likely to work with my computer's specifications, but was informed that OSX 10.3 is no longer available for them to load via USB.  Today it occured to me that OSX 10.2.8 is still somewhere on my ibook, and if there's some shortcut I can use to restart under 10.2 instead of 10.4, some switch of OS I can make while blind (since the screen is currently dark), I could at least still use the ibook using the old 10.2 OS.  Is there a way to do this switch in OSX while essentially blind?  If not, my ibook is basically a doorstop I originally spent over $600 on 10 years ago.  I really can't afford to just run out an buy new computers as I am disabled and dying a slow painful death from Lyme disease, but can't afford medication to treat my own illness, let alone buy another computer every 5 years.  Please help!

    Hello,
Ok let's see what we can do here.
First thing to try is resetting the PMU. Http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431 it may make no difference but its good practice to do so.
So times it can resolve faults. You say they installed Mac OS X 10.4. Did they setup a user a count and did you see the desktop? Did they simply hand it back to you when the installed failed with a blank screen?
The truth is, in order for you to restore your iBook your going to need the system restore disk. With a broken CD drive this has limitations as you have no real means to install.
The only option would be to use target disk mode on an external drive, but being an early G3 iBook I'm not sure if target disk mode will work. I am going to assume the shop used this method to install via USB.
What would be a good solution is to fit a replacement CD drive. They are often cheap enough to buy and relatively easy to fit on a white duel USB model. Replacement CD drives can be brought from eBay at very little money.
An online guide can help you fit one with the right screwdrivers.
With a replacement drive, you will be open to better options for installing or even using an apple hardware test disk to diagnose any faults with the screen.
Suprised you was left in such a situation by the shop.

  • Why is my iPod Touch messing up the music library?

    Hello,
My iPod Touch is having weird issues with the Music library. I think it started in 5.0.1 but it may have been from 5.0, I'm not too sure about it.
    Problem description:
My problem is that my Artist list is corrupt, and my Album list as well. Let me give an example.
Artist list, Alphabetally according to my iPod:
    I
    Iron Maiden
    Jurk
    J
    Incubus
    Jamiroquai
    K
    Linkin Park
    L
    Liquido
    Kamelot
As you can see, these artists aren't properly sorted alphabetically. I've tried looking at the Info on those files but my iTunes on my iMac shows the proper order just fine, it's the iPod that's messing up. Also my albums seems to be able to appear under different bandnames, sometimes the full album but sometimes only a couple of songs.
What have I tried so far?
I've tried resetting its settings by going into Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset settings. All that did was messing up my library even more. I had about 18 GB's of music on the iPod but my library suddenly showed only about 25% of that. When I checked the content via Settings -> General -> Info (or About?) it said I had only abou 2 GB's of music on it. However, when I connected the iPod to my iMac, my iTunes told me I still had all 18 GB's on the iPod.
I've tried removing music from the iPod-iTunes sync, and adding it after a sync. Although this did make an artist re-appear, it seemed to mess up the library even more.
I've just tried restoring the iPod. It's been cleared entirely, and then I re-sync'd all my 18 GB's of music and a couple of apps. However, now the library is messed up as previously mentioned.
    What am I looking for?
Any advice of tips on how to correct my music library. The alphabetical-order-that's-messed-up is only a minor issue because they're still there, it just annoys me that it's not the way it should be. The albums that are messed up between bands is more annoying because now I can't properly play full albums.
Thank you for reading this rather long message, and hopefully you can help me out.
    Kind regards,
    Roald

    Hey, Roald.
I'm not entirely sure this will help your problem, but since it sounded a lot like my own issue, I thought I'd mention it -- just in case.
I updated my ipod recently to iOS5 and just noticed that some of my artists were messed up -- not necessarily listed under the wrong letter, but some were repeated in both English (as I have them in iTunes) and in Japanese, elsewhere in my music list, which was completely surprising. It also made some of my music show up under completely different names, like the composer instead of the soundtrack, etc. I searched iTunes, in the preferences, and the syncing screen, looking for some sort of setting -- but found nothing.
Eventually, I checked my ipod's actual settings for the 'music' app. There's a setting there that says something like 'sort by album artists', which appeared to have been switched on automatically with the OS update. I flicked it to off and restarted the ipod -- and the ipod's issues were fixed. :3
I don't know if this might be a solution to your problem, but try it anyway! I hope it helps.
    -Nirama.

  • Deskjet 2540 can't scan on OSX Yosemite

I am unable to get the Deskjet 2540 to scan in OSX Yosemite. It worked under Mavericks. Since upgrading OSX doesn't even seem able to recognize that the device is a scanner. I did a full uninstall and reinstall of the HP software. Printing works fine, as does making copies using the physical buttons on the device. Scanning options are greyed out in Preview et al., there is no scanner tab for the printer in System Preferences. Attempting to scan in the HP Scan utility results in the error "HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2540 All-In-One is currently unavailable. Please check if it is turned on and connected, or try again later."

Hello @babelfish , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you're experiencing scan issues. I would like to try and assist.
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
After the updates, I would recommend reinstalling the HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • No bootable device issue when installing Win 7 Pro 64 with OSX 10.8.3

Trying to install Win 7 Pro 64 on brand new iMac running 10.8.3.
Using external LaCie optical drive to read Win 7 OEM DVD installer.
Using Bootcamps Assistant, I can create the Windows partition but then when the iMac restarts to insatll Windows, I get a black screen with the message No Bootable device found.
Seems the iMac is not able to boot from the LaCie external drive.
Have tested the LaCie on both a mac and a PC and it works fine.
This iMac can see the drive and its contents in OSX but can't seem to boot to it to install Win 7.
How do I get a round this?
I have done dozens of dual boots using bootcamp but all with Macs that have built in optical drives.  Have never had this much trouble.

I just got this working - finally!
My solution was to download the Win7 ISO file from microsoft and then use BootCamp Assistant to create a USB ISO.  From there, I was able to boot to that "disk" and install Windows.  I read a variety of posts some saying that you cannot use an external DVD drive, others saying that you could but it had to be an Apple SuperDrive.  In any case, the ISO download worked and I would recommend that approach.

  • How does OSX 10.10.2 handle 802.11h Power Constraint Information Element.

Is this a know issue? This is affecting overall throughput and performance.
The Access Point we are using supports 802.11h, in particular the Power Constraint Information Element.
As the Transmit Power on the AP is lowered, the value in the Beacon changes and becomes larger. At a some point the MACBook Pro (3x3) running OSX 10.10.2 seems to reduce its transmit power to low.
    Ex.
If the TX-Power on the AP is set to 8 dbm the Beacon value for the IE is 20, on the AP we see the MACBook RSSI at -49. We then change the TX-Power on the AP to 7 dbm and the Beacon value for the IE is 22, on the AP we now see the MACBook RSSI as -83 and traffic stops flowing. We believe the MACBook chip has reached a limit and the math calculation is going negative or producing some gross value for the MACBook to process.
    From the 802.11-2012 standard:
    "8.4.2.16 Power Constraint element
The Power Constraint element contains the information necessary to allow a STA to determine the local maximum transmit power in the current channel. The format of the Power Constraint element is shown in Figure 8-97.
The Length field is set to 1.
The field is coded as an unsigned integer in units of decibels. The local maximum transmit power for a channel is thus defined as the maximum transmit power level specified for the channel in the Country element minus the local power constraint specified for the channel (from the MIB) in the Power Constraint element.
The Power Constraint element is included in Beacon frames, as described in 8.3.3.2, and Probe Response frames, as described in 8.3.3.10. The use of Power Constraint elements is described in 10.8.4."
If 802.11h support is turned off, throughput is fine, If the OSX 10.9.5 is used the throughput is fine. Only since loading the OSX 10.10 and above have we been seeing this issue. The issue does not appear to happen on Apple Airport Extreme, because the Power Constraint IE is always 0 and the TX-Power is not adjustable.
