OSX 10.5.7 Startup

Hello Everyone I Was Just Wondering, Do You Know The First Time You Boot Up And That Video Plays? Well I Found That On My Mac Desktop And I was Wondering.. Is There Any Way To Make That Video Start Up Every Single Time You Turn Your Computer On?

Well there are some here that do not know how to capitalize the first letter of a new sentence and there are some that capitalize every letter of every word and now finally you have differed with a capital for every first letter of every word. May I ask the significance? If you like seeing the Welcome movie from Mac OS X Setup Assistant video you can make it run again, although for what use I have no idea. Boot into single user mode (hold down the command+s keys)
1. Remove current Netinfo database:
cd /private/var/db/netinfo
mv local.nidb local.old
2. Force Apple Setup to launch on next startup:
rm ../ .AppleSetupDone
3. Shut down the mac:
shutdown –h now
Reboot and it will play. However you will be presented with Setup Assistant to setup your Mac.

OSX 10.9.2 startup problem

Dear Support
I feel trouble on my MAC mini with OSX 10.9.2 when it startup. It hold on in an error somtimes(not everyday) so that my application cannot startup automatically. I check the console log and it show the error below.
console: sandboxd: ([121]) ntpd(121) deny file-read-data /private/var/run/resolv.conf
When I VNC to this mac mini and logon to windows, my program will then work properly. I have more than 1 MAC mini having the same problem. Would any techncial ideas for my to solve it?

OSX asking to choose startup volume

Hi.
I don't know why but now my computer is asking to choose startup volume even if I don't press any key on startup. I just turn it on and sometimes (like 3 times a week) it shows that screen to select hard drive or time machine to boot from.
I was thinking it may be a stuck key on the keyboard, but not.
Do you have any idea?

The startup drive may be failing, or there may be some other internal hardware fault.
Back up all data on the drive immediately if you don't already have a current backup. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

OSX freezes up in startup

I have a G4 power pc that has suddenly started having problems starting up. It gets to the point where i have a blue screen with the gray box in the center that says Mac OS X and a status bar. The status bar gets past the halfway point to where it says 'Login Window starting', then it stops going any further, and will stay like that for days and never finish startup. I can hear the hardrive working and the status bar still ripples like it's working, but it never budges.
I've tried starting in Safe Boot and the same problem arises. I've used Disk Warrior, and verified and fixed permissions by using the utilities on the install disk, unhooked perhipherals, tried a different power cord and power source--that didn't help.
Any ideas on what coul be wrong or other steps I could take?

Archive and Install is an installation option that saves your Applications and Users Folder in a Previous Systems Folder. However, I do not believe a reinstallation of any kind is indicated at this time. Installing on a problem volume is bad enough, but if things don't go well you can have worse nightmares. Reinstallation should be an avenue of last resort, and I don't believe we have reached that point.
You might try booting from the install disk and running Disk Repair in DU again.

Itunes 10.6.3 on OSX (Lion) crashes on startup

Since the last software update my iTunes no longer runs when I click the icon on my dock or in the Applications folder. It crashes after about 10-20 seconds and never displays a window. I've pasted the log below.
If I run iTunes from the command line it opens. I get a complaint about a Quartz visualizer plugin not being for the correct architecture, but otherwise it runs totally fine. If I have clicked on the icon that makes iTunes not open before I run it from the command line it does verify/check my library which takes a little while, but otherwise once that is done all is well.

Windows 8.1 resets startup disk to itself after every update

Hello,
I'm on a late 2014 Macbook Pro 15" retina, running bootcamp with Yosemite on one partition and Windows 8.1 on the other. I prefer OSX as my default startup disk, but every time Windows updates it resets the default startup disk to Windows. Of course I can change it manually, but this gets tedious. Does anyone know a fix for this? Any help would be appreciated.

You have screwed up your system and you're blaming the crashes on someone else. You need to stop thinking it's someone else's problem. Keeping your system healthy is your responsibility.
There is NO upgrade path from preview/evaluation copies to the released versions, anyway, so it really doesn't matter. You have to reinstall
something.
You could reinstall 8.0 and upgrade, or you could get an 8.1 disc and put that in as a fresh install (more expensive, but my recommendation), or you could see if maybe this can help you:

Made Tri-boot:OSX/OS9.2.2/Ubuntu. How do I get OS9 to be bootable again?

Situation setup:
A friend gave me an iBook 300mhz clamshell to use. I wanted to set it up to dual boot between OSX and OS9, but realized that it was a bit outdated for OSX. So I bought a 466mhz iBook se logic board (will have to dremel out a hole for the firewire port), a stick of 512MB RAM, an airport card and am looking for a DVD burner to round off the upgrade. Rather than wait for the new logic board to arrive (which would probably allow me to install OSX via firewire), I decided to install the two OSs onto a 20GB drive in a powerbook Ti 500Mhz computer, and then transplant the drive over to the FrankenBerry clamshell. I have read a few articles/posts where people have installed OSX for the clamshell in this manor.
I had OSX/OS9.2.2 dual booting fine, when I came across Ubuntu for powerpc. Hmmmm...Might be nice to have three OSs on the clamshell. I repartitioned the drive using iPartition, creating 4GB of free space...OSX/OS9 dual boot still worked fine. So far, so good. I then installed Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 into the free space partition and got it to dual boot between Ubuntu/OSX. I figured the only way to get back into OS9 was to boot into OSX and choose OS9 in Startup Disk, which I did. When I reboot, I get the floppy icon and question mark ?!? I thought OS9 was simply a folder in the OSX partition and didn't have any sort of partition(s) of its own...does it?
I had to insert my G4's OSX install CD to change the Startup Disk back to OSX (booting with Option only shows the first OS found on a drive). Once in OSX, I successfully started up classic, pointing it to the OS9 System folder. It told me it had to update some disk drivers in order to work, but that it wouldn't affect my OS9 install. Sure enough, I still can't boot into OS9.
Question:
Is it safe for me to re-install OS9 from the G4 install CD, or will that somehow mess up the OSX and/or Ubuntu installation? My gut tells me that installing OS9 won't touch anything in another partition, but I had something bad for lunch and I don't think I can trust my gut at the moment. Also, since I had already updated to OS9.2.2, should I trash the OS9 apps/system folders and secure empty the trash first?

you can see the os 9 install?
Yup, that's why I mentioned it in my post. I found that holding down option will only show one os per partition (or per hard drive, can't tell at the moment), so if I set OSX to be the startup disk, that's all I see from my local HD when holding down option key during boot. If OS9 was set as the startup disk, then all I see from the local HD is OS9 when booting with option key. If I do choose OS9 from the option screen, or simply let it try to boot OS9 on its own, I get the floppy icon and question mark alternation.
It just seems very peculiar to me that after adjusting the partition and rebooting, dual boot worked fine, but not after installing Ubuntu, which supposedly only touched it's one free space partition at the end of the drive. If Ubuntu only installs in an existing free space partition, how could it be possibly to erase any OS9 disk drivers? ie.creating the free space partition itself 'should' have caused whatever damage was going to be caused to OSX or OS9. Neither one of those OSs should be looking in the free space partition and Ubuntu shouldn't be looking outside of it.
Thanks for your input and encouragement, I'll probably just try throwing away the OS9 folders and re-install it from my G4 install CDs.

How to resolve startup conflict?

Hi all,
one of my programs "takes over" the audio output and inputs (meaning I cant change them...)
This doesnt happen when I boot from another drive or startup in safe mode (holding shift).
How can I find out which program? I deleted a couple but no help yet.

I made a clone copy if my SL drive to another internal drive and started deleting files that arent in the original setup (also have a stick with clean install of OSX, so I can check) and restarting all the time.
Nothing seems to work. I deleted from: (system and Library and users) startup items, Launchdemons, launchagents, peferences, quicktime, frameworks and components. This baby still works but no solution to audio takeover by other source.
Is there any other folder that OSX reads from at startup? I also tried the hidden files thingie...

App Store on Mac osx crash when attempting to update

I am using a Mac mini 2011 late.
OSX Mountain lion latest penultimate version, just prior to the release of the AFP upgrade.
Problem is:
The App Store crashes!
When I attempt to run the App Store it loads but as soon as I hit the Update icon, the app crashes.
Attempts:
Reboot - failed
Reboot the OSX not allowing any startup programs (holding SHIFT on login) - failed
Removing all the .plist files from the startup demons and the launch directory - failed
I repaired disk permissions - failed
Logged In as a different user - failed
Any suggestion???

Firewire Drive Causes Crash at Startup, Safe Boot OK

I have a LaCie External Drive that all of a sudden decided to start causing OSX to crash at startup. While connected booting normally brings up the "need to restart" screen, booting in Single User causes a Kernel Panic, Safe Boot is ok, Booting from Install Disk is ok, but as soon as I connect the drive it's "you need to restart..."
So far i have tried the following;
Zapped the PRAM, repaired permissions normally while disconnected, repaired permissions in Safe Boot while connected, and repaired permissions from Install CD while connected.
My question is of course, what can be causing this problem and how do I fix?
I have sifted through previous discussions but was unable to find an answer, so I apologize if this is a duplicate. Also, if anyone knows of a better category to list this I would appreciate input. Thanks!

Like everything else in life, the simplest solution is best. after remembering that the drive is both USB and FW i dug up my cables and tried the USB connection and...all better. So yes, I guess this would prove that the FW port is to blame.

Startup Disk Full- Suspicious Files

I am running the latest of OSX Server. The startup disk was getting abnormally full. I audited the drive and found that the downloads folder in >Library>Server>Software Updates> Data is taking up a significant amount of space. (74.xx gb) These files are all in an html format. Is it safe to delete these files?

That folder should hold only updates passed through Apple's Software Update system. If you're running Mountain Lion Server you can switch the Software Update Server to manual mode, then use the GUI to prune out the updates you're not interested in:

This is better than deleting them yourself without the server understanding what you're doing.

Why is the Mac HD icon missing in the Startup Disk window?

The Mac HD icon is missing in the Startup Disk window in the Lion Partition on my iMac. It is also missing from the Snow Leopard partition. I did not install Lion on my MacBook and the Mac HD icon is in the Startup Disk.

I am currently in the same situation, and have Paragon installed on my Mac. Furthermore the Option key does not work when I try to hold it down during startup.

XP installed successfully, but now won't boot into OSX

I installed XP onto my 06 MB Pro without any problems. Now when I restart it boots into XP; holding down the Option key to invoke the Startup Disk Manager doesn't work.
How do I get into OSX to set the main (OSX) partition as the startup drive?

I ran Boot Camp Assisstant, followed instructions (partitioned HD: 1 for OSX, 1 smaller for Windows), inserted XP install disk, then followed Windows installer.
Windows install disk reformatted smaller partition into NTFS, then installed XP.
The Book now boots straight into XP, and holding Option won't invoke the Startup Disk screen to choose between OSX partition or Windows partition. I triple checked that the right partition was reformatted, so am confident it was the right one!
+If you have an external hard drive, you may want to set it up so you can boot from there; have space to use WinClone to backup Windows at some point, as well as clone/backup OS X.+
I have external drives, but they're all USB so no Target Mode I'm afraid.

I haven't inserted any other disks since the XP installation - do I now need to insert my Leopard install disk? How can I check if I have the Boot Camp control panel on the OSX partition (will it show up in XP anywhere?) ?

Can no longer boot to OS 9.2.2 on a Dual Processor Mirrored Door G4?

Hope someone can put me out of my misery...
I've been running my Mirrored Door (MDD) Dual G4 for years and have always booted into OS 9, but today, the Mac has decided to boot to OSX.
From the Startup Disk Control panel in OSX, I have selected the OS9 system folder as the startup system, but after a restart, OSX still loads. However, on a restart, I notice that I get a quick OS 9 smiley face along with the question mark before it boots into OSX.
The thing is that when OSX is up and running, I can start Classic manually and OS runs OK so I presume the OS 9 Sytem Folder is OK.
Is there something I can do to get the boox booting back to OS9?

If you still have issues after following Kenichi's excellent advice, let us know if you changed anything, ie. added a new disk, added a new application, moved disks, moved the OS9 System Folder, etc.
a guaranteed-to-work very last resort is to
let it boot into OSX,
backup the OS9 System Folder to a subdirectory (make sure it's not in the top level of the boot disk).
use the MDD restore cd's to perform a partial restore, in which you select to restore OS9.
You would then need to re-install any other updates to OS9 since 2003, usually iTunes, QuickTime, etc. There's a definitive list of 6 updates that we keep posting in these forums, but I just can't remember them just now.
- hang on ... Carbonlib v1.6, iTunes v2.0.4, QuickTime v6.0.3, Authoring Support v1.1.9, AppleScript v1.8.3 and MRJ 2.2.6 (Java).
Plus any printer / scanner drivers you may need. But all of these could probably be salvaged from the backup you made of the OS9 System Folder.
If you're like me, I backup the OS9 System Folder every week and keep 4 generations. Mine is about 300MB, 92MB compressed, worthwhile in these days of 120GB-500GB disks.
