OSX 10.5.8 / iMac / iPhoto
I installed OSX 10.5.8 on my old iMac recently and cannot open iPhoto. It tells me that iPhoto cannot be opened with this version of OSX. I cannot purchase the new iphoto '11 because I do not have snow leopard and cannot upgrade to it because my computer is so old! What can I do to get my photos back?
What version of iPhoto do you have? Any version from iPhoto 4 on will run on 10.5.
You may find iPhoto 09 earlier on ebay or amazon.

If you are doing an upgrade on the same Mac, just leave it where it is. When you do the upgrade, as long as it is not a "clean install" (wipe everything and start over), you should not lose any files.
If you are moving it to another Mac, move it to the same location in your user account on the other Mac. For example, no matter which Mac I'm on, the iPhoto library is always in Home/Pictures/iPhoto Library. -
I have an imac 20-inch Late 2006 model on OSX 10.7.4 running iphoto 11, somehow the application ccleaner has deleted my photos from my iphoto library. I have time machine but the iphoto library file is missing when I access time machine.
To restore photos I have followed the steps below
Quit iPhoto.
Connect your Time Machine drive.
In the Finder, open the folder containing your iPhoto Library. Unless you've moved your iPhoto Library, it can be found in Home/Pictures/iPhoto Library.
Enter Time Machine. (Time Machine can be found in the Dock or in the /Applications folder.)
Choose your desired backup. The timeline on the right side of the screen displays a purple tick mark for each of the backups stored on your Time Machine drive.
Select the iPhoto library you would like to restore, and click the Restore button.
I dont get the option in step 6 as I dont have an iphoto library file to choose? Does anyone know why?Hi Barry
Thanks but as mentioned all is intact, even at step 3 I can see the current library in Home/Pictures/iPhoto Library which has no photos, but when I access time machine any point before the NOW option the iphoto library in Home/Pictures/iPhoto Library is missing from the finder window.
As you can see here it is
and now its gone. I have no explanantion.
How do I go about moving this question as you suggested. -
How to share iPad Photos and iMac iPhoto via network?
I've recently added an iPad 2 to my Apple system. Can anyone tell me how to access my iMac's iPhoto library (OSX 10.7.2) with the iPad 2's Photo's app (or other app) via my Apple Extreme home network? I'm running iOS 5 on the iPad.
It's clearly possible (and I've done it) to share iPhoto libraries between computers running OSX and iPhoto over my network. On my iMac, iPhoto Preferences>Sharing opens a window with clear options to enable this service:

ThanksIn general the simplest way would be to store the document in iCloud, and use iCloud to access the document from both your iMac and iPad.
But your post above says you're running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.4). Snow Leopard is now two years old. I'm not sure it supports iCloud. -
when i click on the iphoto library in the pictures folder in the finder on my imac, i get a window titled iphoto Library-bash-80x24
and the message is

Praveens-Imac:iPhoto Library praveenpabby$it shows 249 MB... and it is like a folder.. not the usual iphoto library icon... i reinstalled mac osx mavericks and used migration assistant to backup from time machine.. i migrated everything except applications in the first go and then used migration assistant again to backup applications...after that when i opened iphoto, it opened with all events and their info, like number of pictures, but there were no pictures... now iphoto opens and asks which photo library do u want iphoto to use.. and the window is blank... and then there are 3 buttons.. other library, create new and choose.. ( choose is greyed out)

I recently loaded OSX mavericks on my Imac. I now find I cannot open any Adobe products from CS5. The error message reads " to open Adobe illustrator CS5.app, you need to install a JAva SE 6 runtime. Would you like to check and install one? I try to install but get the error" download error". As far as i know I'm using Adobe Java 7. None of my CS5 suite works anymore............and i really dont want to upgrade to a monthly cloud service fee as i hate this policy with a passion.

I couldn't launch Dreamweaver CC. An error told me to install "java se 6 runtime". But when I clicked OK I got another error telling me there is a network problem! I found this forum post on CS6 products, so I tried the download link, installed java 6 and presto, it worked! Thanks! -
Trying to open old iPhoto library on osx 10.9.5 with iPhoto 9.5.1. iPhoto says I must upgrade but upgrade eventually hangs. Tried to rebuild/repair database but it always says you have to upgrade database first and eventually hangs
What version was the old library made with?
What is the exact message? when it hangs does it crash or do you have to force quit?

You need to clarify what you are asking.
An iphoto installation has two major parts: 1. The application or program - that's the software and 2. The Library - that's where your actual pictures are.
So when you say:
I want to keep using the old Iphoto program on the new Imac. There is already an IPhoto program on the new Imac but I do not want to add or delete from that one.
It sounds like you want to move the application and not the Library. Most folks want to move the Library, and it makes no sense to have two versions of the application on your mac. -

I got the message, that this version is not supported anymore. I also have a macbook osx 10.8.1. However I did not manage to transfer the books to it. What can I do? I really would not like to recreate the books from scratch in th new version.
You will have to convert your 08 library to iPhoto 11 by copying the library to your Macbook and opening it with iPhoto 11.
However, check to see if the theme you're using in 08 is available in 11. If it isn't you'll probably lose the book or be assigned to some other theme.
If the theme you've chosen isn't available in 11 find one that is available in both versions and convert to it in the 08 library before you move it to 11.

You need to have 10.7.5 Lion for the basic iCloud or 10.8 Mountain Lion or 10.9 Mavericks for the full iCloud. While 10.7.5 Lion will allow you to access iCloud you will be limited unless you can upgrade to 10.8 Mountain Lion or 10.9 Mavericks.

I have a Mac OSx 10.6.8 and iPhoto 7.1.5 and can no longer order printed photo albums unless I update to new version of iPhoto. But reviews of new iPhoto are so negative that I am uncomfortable about buying it. Will it be fine or should I steer clear of trouble and accept that i can no longer publish my photos?
iPhoto '11 is working well.
The reviews usually only show the comments of people who do not like the changed features.

My old iphone 3g has photos on it. When I try to get the photos off and onto my imac iphoto and image capture only bring up the camera roll. I have more pictures that arent on the camera roll there are albums and a photo library full of pictures that I want off of this dang phone. I have tried everything and I cant email them to myself because the service has been cut off of the phone. They are stuck on the phone there is there any way to get them off? Am I missing something.
The iphone is not a storage/backup device. It simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.
Again, the photo sync is one way.
Did you fail to maintain a backup copy of your old computer?
Not good. You can e-mail the photos from your iphone. You do not need to have phoe service for this. The iphone uses wi-fi. The photos will never be of the original quality, as they are reduced when synced to iphone. -

Either redownload it from the Mac App Store or reinstall it from your iLife DVD or if it came pre-installed you can reinstall from the original discs that came with the computer.
