OSX 10.5.8
Hi there, real basic question but can't seem to find the answer anywhere.
Under the 'About This Mac' function, it says the operating system I use OSX 10.5.8. Does this mean it is Leopard and if so will I be able to update to Snow Leopard.
I know, it's an easy one, but any help would be appreciated.

Error: "Could not complete your request because of a program error" (photoshop CS2 9.0.2 on MAC OSX
Today I started my program (photoshop CS2 9.0.2) and opened a JPG file. When I went to print the file the program crashed and closed. When I restarted the program and went to open the file I got this error message, "Could not complete your request because of a program error".
I have tried several different file types/sizes and all result in the same error message since the program crashed. It will not open any file I try to open. As I indicated above I am using Photoshop CS2 9.0.2 it is on a MAC with OSX 10.4.11.
I called Adobe and the Rep directed me to Tech Note 331307 and told me to Re-create the Photoshop preferences files. Which I did and restarted the program, but when I tried to open a file (any file) I still get the same error message so it doesn't appear to be the preferences.
Does anyone have any info as to what the problem may be and how to correct it.

My system I am running Photoshop on is a Power Mac G4, AGP Graphics ATY Rage 128Pro chip set 16MB VRAM LCD 1280x1024 32-bit color, 500MHz, 1.75GB of memory, 1 MB L2 Cache, 100 MHz Bus Speed. I had installed the latest security update and repaired the permissions the day the problem started.
Now to day I started the system and went in and created a Guest Account. I logged into the guest account and started Photoshop. Low and behold it worked just fine. So I logged out of guest and logged into my main user account And started Photoshop. Wouldn't you know it.... It works just fine. I can open any file I want with now problems.
I got to thinking after I had done all of this that I wished I had tried to open a file in Photoshop today prior to creating the guest account to see if it still had the problem in my main user account.
I did not change anything else on the system and all seems to work fine now. So at his point I am really not sure what the problem was.

Download error in (osx) adobe desktop app (corrupted download link).
Here is a discription of the problem. Please consider that some of the wording might not be correct, as I do have to translate the error message from German into English.
Using OSX 10.9.2, when clicking inside the adobe desktop app (top of the screen bar) on the tap "apps", the following screen (screenshot) appears, which states, translated from top to bottom:

All apps, like Bridge, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. are installed and work just fine. So no problem here. I seem however unable to redownload the desktop app (in order to reinstall). As stated above the provided link inside the desktop app itself is coruppted and within the (online) web-based download centre (user logged in) I am only adviced to use the desktop app. This is a dead end and I do not know what to make of this error, let alone solving it. Please help!I am sorry Romsinha but this doesn't really help.
I already restarted the desktop app and while I am obviously online and connected the problem (error message) remains the same. Information within the "home" tap is recieved/loaded (little blue spinning wheel) stating that various apps recently have been updated. Yet the same loading wheel within the "apps" tap results in an error. My best guess is that some internal link within the app is corrupted, leading to a source on a server that can not be reached.
UPDATE
I clean uninstalled adobe creative cloud as discribed in the article you provided (using the cleaner tool) and even uninstalled the browser plugin. After downloading and reinstalling creative cloud the problem however remains the same. "Apps" tap still shows the same problem. "Home" tap now displays the following: -
We used the Adobe Creative Suite for a long time in a situation where users login through on open directory osx server.
It worked fine until we started to use Adobe Creative Cloud. We use the Enterprise version.
Computers are very slow now, especially Indesign crashes a lot and can sometimes not even be opened anymore.
Has anybody experienced the same problems?

I logon to bank via its internet portal and next screen takes up all 27" display.

result Installed Chrome ...same thing Installed Opera... this browser actually has in its Preferences menu
the capacity to set JavaScript Options under the Conent submenu... DISALLOWED all of resizing of windows,
moving of windows and ability of script to hide menu bar ... this fixes the screen to available browser size...

Mail app deleted and reinstall wont open, says not compatible with OSX
i accindetally deleted my mail app and emptied the trash, when I tried to reinstall from the startup disk, it installs but wont open, saying that the version of mail is not compatible with the version of OSX (10.5.8)

There is no downloadable version of Mail.app - it comes with the operating system i.e. on your install disks. -
Web-Disk on OSX 10.9 Give me this error: "Finder got an error: Network file permission error."
Previously I was using OSX 10.8 and Web Disk was working great.
Since I upgraded to OSX 10.9 Web Disk Dont Attach to my compputer and give me this ERROR:

To force all connections to be SMB1:
Open A terminal window
paste in the following line followed by the return key(should be all on one line):
echo "[default]" >> ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf; echo "smb_neg=smb1_only" >> ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf
What the command does:
Creates a file called nsmb.conf in your home directory at the path ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf.
Adds directives to force SMB connections to use the SMB1 protocol. This is slower but stable.
Then I could use Web Disk on OSX 10.9 after executing this command in Terminal.
But now I restarted my Macbook and now Im NOT able to connect to Web Disk and get the same ERROR.
FInder got an error: Network file permission error
After trying 100 times it attaches 1 time but then show this ERROR:
Can't get <<class cdis>> "my.server.com/2078" of application "Finder".
If this happen then I can see the files in Finder and see the Contents and Size of files but if I open a PHP file in BBEdit then it shows BLANK.. But actually it is NOT blank.
Now Im stuck How can I solve this? All help is highly appericated..

I have recently purchased MacBook Pro with Mac OSX 10.7.3 Lion and I would like to install Final Cut Pro 6 Studio2, and it came up with this error: 'you can't open application FinalCutProStudio.mpkg because PowerPc apps are no longer supported......Is there a way to run FCP6 on lion withoput this error? One card for OSX and one for windows...
OK, I've been following the ongoing debate regarding the choice of graphics cards for the Mac Pro. I think saying that it's limited would be putting it mildly.
Now, I really wish for a few more horsepower for when I'm playing Warcraft in Bootcamp but I really don't want to fork out £270 for the 1900XT just for apple to come along and update the range in x months and as I only really need the extra oomph in windows I wouldnt really see any benefit in OSX from the new card. Some people have touched on the idea of perhaps using a seperate card for when using windows. This would be great as I can get a better card for use in windows for a fraction of the price of a new apple card. What are the pro's and con's of doing this? Would the non-apple card confuse OSX and vica-versa would windows see both cards? Would I need to specify in windows which card I want to use? Would I have to remove a card each time I booted in the 'other' OS?

Mac Pro 2.66GHz / iMac DV Graphite Edition / Colour Classic Mac OS X (10.4.9)I left WoW with over 200 days played and moved from a G4 to a Mac Pro with a 1900 during that time. I also ended up having my x1900 card replaced by Apple. According to many sources there is now a Rev2 card being shipped. I can't confirm it but I can confirm that fewer people seem to be having problems, and if you use SMC FanControl while playing WoW it will keep things cool and you'll be assured of no over heating issues. Personally I would not be concerned if I used SMC Fan Control, and in fact after getting the new card and beginning to use SMC Fan Control I had no further issues of any kind. The issue was with overheating. WoW runs just fine in OSX using the x1900 card. FPS over 100 is not uncommon and even in the Suppression room in BWL (still the most intense graphic area I can recall...nothing like it in Kara or anywhere else I've seen in the new content) I'd get 40-80fps. It's no SLI super high end, but very, very playable with a Mac Pro.

Ho do I use one monitor for OSX and Windows 8.1 bootcamp
I am a long time Mac user, but find the fairly recent Apple switch to thunderbolt for monitor input very frustrating.
For several years I have ran a Mid 2010 IMac 27" and input video from a Mac Mini running Boot Camp Windows 7 using Target Display Mode on the IMac.
This worked fine until I upgraded to a Late 2013 27" IMac and discovered that the IMac has moved to thunderbolt as the input for Target Display Mode. The new late 2013 27" IMac just will not display native Windows 7 or 8 from a Boot Camp Mac anymore.
My problem is that I have two business/job related Windows apps that must run on a native windows 7 or 8 platform, and won't function under either Parallels or VMWare Fusion.
I have tried.
And there appears to be no way to get any Windows machine with DVI or Mini Display Port output to drive a late 2013 IMac in Target Display mode.
So, with great frustration, I have concluded that I need to purchase a non-Apple 27-30" monitor, and drive it with either a Mac Mini, or my Early 2013 15" MacBook Pro retina, running one of the Macs into on of the mini-Display Ports on the monitor and a native Windows 7 or 8 machine into a second mini-display port, switching between the two video inputs. The Dell 30" monitor seems to get the nod.
Has anyone found a better solution to switching between OSX and native Windows on one monitor?

I had the same experience in December 2013 and contacted Apple about it. According to Apple it's an issue of Windows with Thunderbolt. Your older iMac from 2010 is using DisplayPort and not Thunderbolt for the Target Display Mode. Note that just the connector looks the same but it's still a different technology. Please further note that the response below does not apply for the new iMac 27" with the 5K display because this iMac does not support Target Display Mode at all, hence can't be used as external display. Of course you can still attach one or two external displays to the iMac 27" 5K.

"... The Thunderbolt controller in an iMac is running exclusively in host mode. As such it cannot emulate a device mode Thunderbolt display. Instead it implements a custom Target Display Mode protocol that shares video between two peer to peer machines running with both controllers running in host mode. The "client" side of the driver does not exist on Windows so windows cannot speak to the "server" half in the iMac. There are no plans to implement a client driver for Windows since there is no Thunderbolt SW stack available for Windows. The reason this used to work is that the older iMacs used DisplayPort for Target Display Mode. In this scenario the iMac was able to expose the panel in such a way that it looked exactly like a Display Port Device which Windows does have driver support for. ... "

if by “free” you mean “gratis” (as opposed to, say, “open source”), then there’s only one version of OS X to date that’s gratis, namely Mavericks. You can only download Mavericks if you currently have Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later installed. If you’re still running Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5.something) on your 2008 MacBook Pro, then you’ll need to first purchase the white retail Snow Leopard DVD, install it on your MacBook Pro, and run Software Update to get it to 10.6.8, after which you can download Mavericks gratis from the Mac App Store and install that. Be sure that your MacBook Pro meets all of Mavericks’ system requirements before trying to install it. If you currently run any PowerPC apps, note that they won’t be supported in any version of OS X after Snow Leopard. -
Another hard drive swap question - re: 8GB partition for OSX in iMac 266
I have a Tangerine iMac 266 that I am setting up for a neighbor's son. The original 6GB hard drive was toast, so I swapped in an old 10GB drive that had previously been removed from an iMacDV 400. The 10GB "new" drive had OSX 10.3.1 and OS 9.1 on a single partition. I am aware that these early iMacs need OSX in a first partition of less than 8GB, so I expected that I would need to partition the "new" drive. However, while I was loading an install CD after powering up, the iMac booted fine into OSX, despite it NOT being located in a first partition of less than 8GB (and has continued operating well - booting multiple times in OS X and 9, surfing the net, etc...the only weirdness is a refusal of Word X to run).
I thought this was impossible, and in researching this I found that the Apple support site says that, for this computer, "Mac OS X must be installed on a volume that is contained entirely within the first 8 GB of its ATA hard disk." see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106235
My Questions:
Is the 8GB limit only related to iINSTALLING OSX on these machines (and not RUNNING OSX)?
Will the machine run into problems later if a portion of the OS (i.e., during an update) gets installed outside of the first 8GB of the disk?
One of the log files says that the driver is out of date for the RageproC, and Classic applications that require more than 4MB of VRAM say that I don't have enough VRAM to run, yet the iMac has 6MB of VRAM (2 on MB and 4 in slot as listing by the system profiler) - do I need to (or should I) reinstall the system software (I already tried loading the latest ATI drivers, but it did't help)?
P.S. - to add more data points on the subject of RAM upgrades in these iMacs, my iMac 266 would not accept a 256MB PC-100 SO-DIMM that worked fine in an iBook and in the upper slot of a Rev. A iMac 233. Well, it accepted it, but only recognized the first 128MB.I believe Duane is correct. Even with Mac OS 9, you can run fine as long as all OS components used during startup are within the first 8GB of space. However, (even with Mac OS 9) as soon as something used during startup ends up beyond that limit, you will get open firmware or a gray screen at startup. The Mac OS X does not allow the installation target to exceed the limit as a preventative measure, not because it won't work at all.
The best "non-technical" explanation I have heard as to why, is this... The IDE hardware (and its driver) can only "see" the first 8GB of space during the initial start up process before the OS is loaded. Once start up completes, control is handed to the OS, which can see the entire drive. Therefore, apps have no problem running from beyond the limit. Only components needed before the hand-off is constrained to the 8GB limit.
FYI - On my iMac and 120GB drive, 7.78 GB (as shown in a Finder window) is the precise point where the Mac OS X Installer allows the volume to be the install target. "Precise" to with a few hundred MB's. -

I recorded an acoustic performance of my vocal quart last night on an iPhone running GarageBand 2.0.1 on iOS 7.1.2. But I can't open it in GarageBand 11 (6.0.5) on Mac OSX 10.9.5. What gives?
Not only will it not open (and the software on my Mac platform is way more recent than on my iPhone, so you'd think it would be upward compatible), but when I try to open this iOS-created file on the Mac, it asks me where I want to save it ... it's already saved, I'm just trying to open it.
I've looked at the reviews for the latest GarageBand, which it tells me I need to upgrade to, and they are terrible! Many report that they wish they hadn't upgraded and that they could get back to an older version of GarageBand on their Mac.
Does this mean I'm stuck and the two GarageBand platforms are not compatible and that I won't be able to open this file? ... other thanes an mp3 in iTunes ...

it sounds like it's opening fine, but you're just not letting it finish.
it's asking you to save a version of the song for the mac; if it saved over the original file, it could no longer be opened on the iOS device, if you needed to alter something later
