OSX 10.5 simply WON'T install on my G5

I just recieved my copy of OSX 10.5 in the mail today, and have been trying desperately to install it ever since
Everything seems to work fine, except my hard drive doesn't show up, thus there is nowhere to install OSX to
Am running a late model G5 (Dual 2GHz PPC, 1GB RAM etc., it was purchased in June of 2006)
What's up with that?
Also, I have been unable to eject the DVD unless i use a safety pin to force eject it
Thinking of sending it back and asking for a refund, since I apparently can't install it on my computer...

I have a "backup" (retrospect) on my external hard drive. Is that the same as a "clone"? I downloaded carbon Copy Cloner but get this message, which is greek to me;-)
"Verify that CCC is located on a local disk (e.g. not a network share, not on read-only media, not on a disk image) and that that media supports the setuid bit."
Yes, on a local disk; it's on the iMac I want it to run on; it was downloaded-is that a disk image?; what is setuid bit?

  • Snow Leopard simply won't install on Mac Mini

After failing to upgrade over Leopard 10.5 on my Mac Mini (it has 2Gb Ram), I did a reinstall of the original software, erasing the disk and starting fresh. It's now at 10.4.5 with all of the most recent updates installed, and 59.9 Gb memory free on the hard drive, no partitions or peripherals other than the mouse and keyboard; processor 1.66.
The Snow Leopard disk is brand new out of the box. At each attempt at reaches to about '39 minutes left' and then the 'Installation Failed -- could not copy support files' or something like that. The same thing happened when I tried a friend's Family Pack Snow Leopard disk, so it's unlikely that it is the disk itself. And since the reinstall of the original software went fine, the problem doesn't seem to be the optical drive. After about 5 tries, I never get beyond this specific point, and have to start over.
I ran the 'verify disk' utility and it reported that everything seems to be OK with the hard disk.
Any clues as to how to get this to work? I wish I could simply install the 10.5 Leopard, but that disk has gone missing.

That would indeed be the most logical reason for failure, and close inspection of the disk shows some blemishes that were not there at the start of the process. But another attempt to install from another disk -- a 'Family Pack' disk -- produced exactly the same failure at exactly the same point in the process. A firewire option will have to wait for another day, since this one is pretty much shot at this point.
    Thanks

  • Security update Flash version for Mac OSX 10.5.8 won't install

I lost my ability to view Ustream live streaming and recorded videos on Sept. 12, 2013, in both Safari and Firefox. The screen is solid black, and if I right click I get "Movie not loaded..." I read about the Sept.10 Security Update for Flash Player, so I uninstalled version fp_10.3.183.90 and attempted to install version fp_11.7.700.242. The installation failed every time, so I returned to the older one. On Sept. 13 I downloaded Google Chrome and it worked, but today, Sept. 14, I see the message "Flash is out of date," and no video.
I have a Macmini2,1 with 1 Intel Processor and 2 Cores, made in 2007, I think. OS Leopard, 10.5.8 (64-bit). My Safari is version 5.0.6, Firefox 9.0.1 and Chrome 21.0.1180.90.
I spend a lot of time on Ustream, so this is a big setback... please help!

Firefox is on version 23.1 now (I believe it WILL run on Leopard), and Chrome is on 29 (I can't be sure of that because I've uninstalled it from EVERY LAST machine I own and will NEVER use it again).
THAT may have something to do with it. Safari 5 is the newest that will run on 10.5, and unfortunately the LATEST Flash Player WON'T run on Leopard.
The reason is that OS 10.5 was the LAST Universal Binary OS Mac released (it runs on Intel or Power PC Macs) Becaue of that, it uses a different acrhitecture and the Flash Player is different from an "Intel only" build. Websites will continue to update, requiring the latest Player, and that will lead to obsolescence of your Flash Player (and your OS). THAT'S the bad news.
The GOOD news is: Because your Mac is Intel powered, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.8) for $20 through Apple (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard), and THAT will allow you to run a LOAD of software that requires 10.6 or newer.

  • My Mac says I downloaded iTunes 10.7, but I when I open iTunes, it is still iTunes v. 10.5.3. What do I do? It simply won't install.

I recently downloaded iOS 6 on my iPhone 4S (without connecting it to my computer, I downloaded it straight from my phone), and so today, I tried to download a few songs from my iTunes library to my phone. But when I connected my phone, it says that I must download iTunes 10.7, so I did. I restarted my computer and plugged my phone in again. The same message popped up saying I need iTunes 10.7.3 to work with iOS 6, so then I try to download it like 5 more times, and yet there is no difference. When I click on More Details on the pop-up box with the software update, it says that iTunes is downloaded but not installed. How should I resolve this issue? Thank you.

Perhaps check to see if you're accidentally running two different versions of iTunes. There's some information on troubleshooting that in the Opening iTunes section of the following document:

  • Mac OSX 10.5.4 won't install

Hey, i've got a macbook pro, and every time my automatic update tries to install the new update for the OS, and I always get this message:
The Update "Mac Os X Update Combined" can't be installed.
The installer could nat validate the contents of the "Mac OSUpdCombo10.5.4" package. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
And by the way, everything else installs just fine, but this hasn't been installing for months on end now. What is going on and what do I need to do???

Have you tried deleting your existing download of "Mac OSUpdCombo10.5.4" and downloading and installing a fresh copy from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1054comboupdate.html ?

  • Won't Install on Windows XP Pro

Oh my gosh, I have tried everything! Flash Player simply
    won't install. What's the alternative?
The problem is on my Dell Inspiron Laptop. I am able to
install and use Flash Player on the other user accounts on my
laptop, but not on my user account. I have set all users to limited
and only me as the administrator. I have uninstalled all spyware
but McAffe, and I have stopped it from running. I have set all my
internet options to enable everything to the point my computer is
completely insecure. I have uninstalled Flashplayer, checked
Windows/System32/Macromedia to see it is gone. I have restarted my
    computer.
I have checked the registry key in Windows. It doesn't have
anything listed under permissions. But when I sign on as the other
user that Flashplayer downloads and works, the registry key
permissions are identical...empty. I've stopped every process,
every application possible. I've downloaded unsuccessfully,
uninstalled, restarted, and completed the process over and over
    again.
At this point I am completely compromising my computer just
to try to get Flashplayer to work.
Any ideas? This is so frustrating!

As suggested, I unistalled PSE 7; paused Kaspersky Internet Security program (I am not running any Norton/Symantec programs); and reinstalled from the original CD. The installation process (again) completed with apparent success. Nevertheless, the program will not load. It generates the same error messages as before:
    Error Signature
    AppName: photoshop elements 7.0.exe AppVer: 7.0.0.0 ModName: adobelmlnhr_libfnp.dll ModVer: 11.5.0.0 Offset: 00090804
Viewing "technical information about the error report" takes me to a lengthy screen and a reference to "C:\DOCUME~1\David\LOCALS~1\Temp\4f46_appcompat.txt" That file is very short:
    0 Photoshop Elements 7.0.0.0 Log (5) started 2009-01-06 20:16:05.950
0 (+ 0) Windows OS Version as reported by Qt: 0x30
    47 (+ 47) Desktop Resolution: 1024 x 768 Depth: 32
    47 (+ 0) RegisterConnect matched
The "Error Report Contents" lists "information about your process [that] will be reported." Unfortunately, I cannot copy and paste it into this message. The "Exception Information" is quite brief, however, and I re-type it below:
    Code: 0xc0000005 Flags: 0x00000000
    Record: 0x0000000000000000 /addressL 0x0000000001770804
I am running Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 3. My CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ = 2.21GHz. SysInfo reports 2.93GB of RAM.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Firefox won't install for all users in Windows 8.1; only installs for administrator

Since moving to Windows 8.1, I have been unable to install Firefox for multiple users on this laptop. Firefox installs only for the Administrator (me), and does not appear on any other user account. When I try installing from one of the other user accounts (after entering my administrator password), it simply won't install.

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
    * Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
    * "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected
Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).

  • Bootcamp drivers won't install

After installing Windows XP Home SP2, I insert the Leopard DVD to install the Boot Camp drivers. The installation begins and gets to the Broadcom network drivers, then I get a windows bluescreen for a second and the computer restarts. There are no wireless drivers or anything else installed. I tried downloading the BC2.1 drivers (.exe, but that will not run at all. I have re-installed Windows, but this does not fix the problem. The BC drivers simply won't install and crashes windows.

Hello...well, this might have worked for you guys, but not me.
The Bootcamp manual simply says that upon restarting, "just follow the Found New Hardware Wizard" and it's all set.
Well, the Hardware Wizard never appeared. Tried everything over again and still nothing.
I know you say to use the OS disc that came with my machine (a Macbook Pro), but I have been. Otherwise, I of course wouldn't have been able to install Bootcamp.
So, I've gone through the Bootcamp installation (after the windows installation) twice now, and everything seemed to go fine (meaning the wireless network is operational, and all other utilities that should be linking up with the OS X side of the computer), but on that previously mentioned restart (Step 3, Point #4, on Page 12 of the Bootcamp instructions PDF), the Hardware Wizard STILL doesn't come up....and yes, the disc is in the drive.
Anyone else have this problem? Is there any other way to make these drivers work? I, too, cannot stand the big fat blurry text/windows on the screen!
    Thanks!

  • Itunes 9.2 won't install on Windows 7

Like many here, i am having the same problem. my pc is just new, running on Windows 7 32 bit. at first i had trouble even downloading it itunes 9.2... but i was able to after removing cookies etc. but now.. when i try to install.. it won';t even open. no error message whatsoever. it just wont open. i've tried all the tips here. turned off all security, firewall, etc. but it simply won't install. i'm getting very frustrated, i've never had a problem like this before.. what's up really, surely there is somekind of bug since it seems alot are experiencing the same.
    please help!

Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we need to hunt down a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for *at least version 3.0* of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any BonJour and iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes 9.2 again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • CC won't install

Recently purchased 5 seats of CC for my company, and have established myself as administrator. Have successfully deployed 4 licenses: 1 to myself and 3 to my staff. However, CC simply won't install for me. On my main machine, it made it through the CC desktop app and Acrobat XI, and then died on Photoshop ("patch failed to install, try back later"). On my secondary machine, made it through the desktop app and then 51% of Acrobat XI before stopping. Now install for Acrobat XI won't even initiate. As a side note, the dropdown from the desktop app on my secondary machine shows a mix of "Install" and "Try" options, when all options should be Install — I subscribed to the whole suite.
Is Adobe suffering server issues? Is something corrupted somewhere that I need to repair?

On edit of above: Additionally, the failed Acrobat installation has hosed my previous Acrobat 10 installation. Now it's insisting on my CS6 password -- which, when provided, it rejects!
Does Adobe know/care how intensely frustrating this is, and how it wrecks the credibility of Adobe's (greedy) subscription model?

  • Uploaded Firefox 4 for Mac (10.6.7). It won't install continually saying I lack "permission to access some of the items". What now ?

Firefox 4 simply won't install on my Mac saying I don't have permission to use some of the items. Have been using Firefox for more than 5 years.

I removed all firefox apps and started over with 4.0. Now it's working.

  • HP Deskjet 3510 - Update won't install

I posted a "Help" yesterday about this same subject, but am getting looks, but no help.  Does anybody know why I can't seem to install a Printer Update called Hewlett Packard Null Print for my HP Deskjet 3510?  I have tried over and over and keep getting a code 80070490 or 80070002.  It simply won't install and stays on my list of Important Updates.
I have the HP Pavilion g7 notebook PC and am running Windows 8.1.  I use Internet Explorer.
Obi Wan Kanobi...you are my only hope.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi Redjerseylinda,
According to the Windows website "If you receive Windows Update error 80070490, it means that a file (CBS Manifest) that's needed to install updates is corrupt."
Please take a look at what I found: Windows Update error 80070490
It seems the reason the file is appearing as corrupt is because it is whats is referred to as a "ghost update". Basically a "ghost update" is an update that was for the device, but the device has more recent drivers which causes the update to keep failing.  The only thing you can do is hide the update, or ignore it.  Windows will keep trying to push it, but your printer doesn't need it.  If it did need the update, it would install right.
I hope this puts your mind at ease. Happy New Year.

  • My new blank hard drive won't install OSX from the disk?

For some reason my Mac book pro won't install OS through the install cd or through the flash drives. It will load the disk but then freeze when I click install. It won't load through the USB either. I have done multiple diagnostics at the mac store and they tell me that my hd is bad. Twice the hd was fresh out of the box and installed that day. I spoke to a supervisor via phone when I called apple care and he told me that unless I have all apple parts in the computer they can't accurately diagnose the issue. It feels like they're trying to con me into paying double for a "apple hd". What can I do to get my computer working?

I would purchase an external USB enclosure for the HDD. With the HDD in the enclosure, install OSX and then mount in your MacBook. If you continue to have problems, it could be a faulty internal SATA cable.

  • QuickTime Won't Install, Can't Find Newer Version OSX 10.4.11

When QuickTime 7.6 released, the update caused problems on my Mac PPC G5 (OSX Tiger 10.4.11). I deleted it. I attempted to reinstall an older version of QT that I knew functioned. This was over a year ago. It didn't work. As it was not urgent, I forgot about it.
Now, there is software I want to use that relies on QT being installed.
Running into the same problem with the installation. It's a Catch-22 situation.
*The QT 7.5.5 Installer won't install because "a newer version is already installed".*
*However, attempts to run ANY software or movie or whatnot that uses QT tells me the opposite, that QT is NOT installed.*
I have searched the computer's furthest corners trying to dig out components and packages and it STILL insists QT is installed. I've searched on every possible variation of QuickTime, Quicktime, quicktime, qt, you name it. NOTHING.
What am I missing? How do I get this to work? I've no intention of upgrading to Leopard just yet.
    Thanks in advance.

    What am I missing?
As far as I know, the installing software still checks the "Library > Receipts" folder to read a history of which package updates have been installed rather than searching to see if the actual app is installed. Have you deleted the receipt ".pkg" files equal to or newer than the one you currently wish to install. However, remember this approach assumes that any "patches" applied in the ordinary upgrade process will not create a conflict within the embedded QT structure when reinstalling an older version--which may or may not be true here. (I.e., QT is no longer an independent application or software package but rather an integrated part of the operating system.) The safest approach is to re-install an older version of the entire OS and upgrade the system as it was meant to be updated to the level at which you wish to operate.
