Hard drive sensor or logic board failure.
Try a SMC Reset, only thing I can help.

Check your tones with this sounds like it's not recognizing the RAM, perhaps it's not seated well or making a bad connection or it's defective.

Did you restart your computer after repairing permissions?
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
    Your system info says:
    MacBook Pro
Yet, in your postings you say:  "MacBook" which is an entirely different computer.  Typo?  Are you in the correct community area?

  • The update "MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) Software Update 1.0" can't be applied

When trying to update my new Macbook Pro with Retina through Apple's software update application, I get the error:
The update "MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) Software Update 1.0" can't be applied
The update could not be expanded, and may have been corrupted during downloading.
I've already went through the process twice to download this update.

Same type of error, but getting 90% downloaded and error message that the update cannot be saved. But it then goes to the screen to apply, but with 90% only - no instructions that it will only download 90% and the rest will come during the update - not going to apply.

I am currently running OSX 10.6.8 on my MacBook Pro. Can I upgrade straight to Yosemite and if I can what issues will I face?

    1. It depends on what Mac model you have. If it's incapable of running Yosemite, installing an intermediate version won't help with that.
    2. You'll lose the ability to run PowerPC software, and some other programs may also be incompatible. If something goes wrong, you might lose data; back your computer up first. There aren't any issues specifically associated with skipping versions.

  • Virtual machine of Lion OSx 10.7 server on my MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7?

I'd like to create a better disaster recovery plan.  My thought was to create a virtual machine of Lion OSx 10.7 server on my MacBook Pro running 10.7.  Is that even possible?

Disasters for you primary tends to take down the disk.  That would kill your VM 10.7 Server fail-over.
Yes, you can VM "server", but I advise using CarbonCopyClone to keep a copy of the main disk but on an external drive, two separate external drives if you can afford it.  CCC will clone the Recovery Partition, and the odds of all three drives failing at the same time are very low.  Just keep the clones current by backing up at least once a week, if not once a day.  You can rotate one of the clones to a freind's house for better protection.

  • How to update MacBook Pro system10.6.8 to 10.7.5

I Need to update MacBook Pro 1.1 Intel Core Duo, Memory 2 GB, speed 2 GHZ 667  MHZ Boot Ram Version.  I would like to use Turbo Tax but it apparently does not support 10.6.8.  And the printer also supports only from10.7.5 x-10.8x,10.9. I have copied all my Microsoft doc from Version 2004.  I appreciate any help you can give me.

Sorry, but your model cannot run Lion or later. A Mac Pro 1,1 can run Lion. Maybe that's what you have confused with your MacBook Pro. Your's is an obsolete model with a Core Duo processor. Running any version of OS X requires a Core 2 Duo processor. See these following requirements.
    Upgrading to Lion
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
          1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • After 10.7.4 update macbook pro won't sleep

after 10.7.4 update, macbook pro won't sleep.

Test after each of the following steps that you haven’t already tried:
    Step 1
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter ▹ Wake for network access: uncheck. You may need to unlock the preference pane by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your administrator password.
    Step 2
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Schedule… ▹ Start up or wake: uncheck
    Step 3
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Print & Scan ▹ Open Print Queue...
Check all printers for unfinished jobs. Deal with any you find.
    Step 4
Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse or trackball, and monitor, if applicable.
    Step 5
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected. Enter “powerd” (without the quotes) in the "Filter" text field. Select the powerd process and click the Quit Process button in the toobar (stop-sign icon.) In the sheet that opens, click Force Quit. You’ll be prompted for your administrator password. The process will be relaunched immediately.
    Step 6
Boot in safe mode and log in. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal. Don’t launch any applications at first. If sleep still doesn’t work properly, back up all data and reinstall the Mac OS. After that, if you still have the issue, make a “Genius” appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
If sleep now works as expected, go on to the next step.
    Step 7
Still in safe mode, launch the usual set of applications that are running when you have the problem, including your login items, one at a time, testing after each one. Some applications may not work; skip them. You might be able to identify the cause of the problem this way.
    Step 8
If sleep is still working after you’ve launched all the usual applications, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and test again. If sleep still works, you’re done, at least for the moment.
If you still have the sleep issue after booting out of safe mode, post again.

Realize that people that aren't having problems tend not to "brag" that they're doing fine.  Those that are having problems are usually very vocal.  So a lot of the "bad reviews" may just be those that had a problem, not necessarily the real experience of the millions of people that are doing just fine.
...and I'm afraid to download it and my computer is 2009, yours runs smoothly?
I'm running Lion fine on my 2008 MBP (4,1. 2.4GHz C2D, 4GB) and late 2009 Mini (2.0GHz C2D, 8GB.)  Minimum RAM for Lion is 2GB, but IMHO you really want 4GB.  If you have a lot of apps open (or have demanding apps like Photoshop,) then get more RAM if you machine can handle it.
Also, make sure the rest of your apps or drivers are up to date before upgrading.  Incompatible drivers for things like printers and such are what I've found to cause a lot of stability problems.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is once again available from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.

  • ITunes won't open after update; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5

iTunes won't open after update - help, please; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5.

i had a problem similar to yours and better yet, i have the fix for it. i downloaded maverick 4 months ago and was without itunes ever since. all itunes icon did was bounce. itunes would never open and whats more, is when i would try to update it, i would get a "thank you for downloading itunes!" page , but the download would never work. so i scoured the net for solves. nothing that worked. <4 months later> then last night i took a new approach. i decided even though maverick would not allow me to uninstall itunes, i would find a way to uninstall itunes. then i would reinstall back to 11.1.5 i was successful and heres what i did.
    step one-
Back up your iTunes Library.itl file, found under ~/Music/iTunes
(even tho i didnt, i only had 3 artists in there at the time. and they didnt get erased but i advise you back up just in case.)
    step two-
download itunes 10.7 from apple. i used this link Download it from Apple here
(i pulled the link from Aarons website (awesometast.com). you download 10.7 however you want but i used the link above and have had no issues).
although im not sure you need to do this step ( you may be able to download 11.1.5 itunes without 10.7, i did because i was following intructions from http://awesometoast.com/downgrading-to-itunes-10-7-from-itunes-11-on-osx/
    step 3-
    open Terminal
    step 4-
enter in these 3 commands hitting return after each line. 1st line nothing seems to happen, 2nd line nothing seems to happen and 3rd line gives you a warning and requires password to continue. when i did it, my password didnt appear as i entered it and i hit return without looking, so i entered it in again, although im not sure i had to the 2nd time.
    killall iTunes
    killall "iTunes Helper"
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/
    step 5-
drag off and dump the itunes icon (which now has the ? shadow in it) off your dock.
    step 6-
install 10.7 itunes you downloaded earlier. (not sure if this part is neccesary. you may be able to just download 11.1.5 but i downloaded 10.7 because i was following Aarons steps.) itunes now works.
    step 7-
go to apple and update to 11.1.5 itunes. install it. open it and you have itunes 11.1.5 in perfect working order. assuming you have a decent internet speed for the downloads, the whole process takes very little time.
with those steps above, you can solve itunes just bouncing and not launching issues and also the "thank you for downloading" and nothing downloads issue. enjoy. also i would like to give a shout out to http://awesometoast.com and thank Aaron for the knowledge that enabled me to get itunes back into my life.

  • Trying to update MacBook Pro, OS X. Yosemite from 10.10.2 to 10.10.3 (Recovery Update 1.0). After downloading the update, the Mac flips to automatically restarts and launches "Software UpdateLauncher." The Mac doesn't respond to any command.

Once I download the update (OS X Yosemite, 10.10.3, Recovery Update 1.0), after the system automatically restarts, the launch page is "Software Update Launcher." Looks like a typical menu bar, and the rest of the screen is blank. None of the commands work, though. Even trying to shut down via the menu doesn't work, and the only way to get past the page is a hard shutdown and restart. Once restarting, everything works as it should EXCEPT the update did not install.
This same thing happened with the previous Yosemite update, and I wound up taking the laptop to the Genius bar where no one was familiar with the error. After running virtually every diagnostic, removing a suspected out of date security application (Intego), the decision was to restore the Mac to factory pristine state. OUCH.
We have a MacBook Air, which has the same OS version and security and other third party software as the Pro, and it has not experienced this problem.
I've made another appointment at the Genius Bar, but I sure as heck don't relish the idea of having to wipe my Pro clean again and having to start all over. Time Machine backups are great, but they don't restore my system as though nothing happened.
    Any suggestions or proven remedies??
    Thanks.

Another thing that is probably relevant now that I think of it:
I forgot that the xcode_3.2.6_and_ios_sdk_4.3.dmg file would not open on it's own. It would get all the way through the verification process and then display "invalid checksum". I had selected Skip to bypass the verification process in the hopes that it would install anyways. Just ejected it and tried to verify it again, same "invalid checksum" error.
I've looked for solutions online and everybody just says to keep downloading it/have a wired connection and to use Safari... I've downloaded the thing 5 times now meeting both of those requirements and the exact same issue occurs every time.
