OSX 10.6.7 copy photo to network drive very slow preparing file

I want copy photo to  folder ID Photo Server 2011 on NAS ***(folder ID Photo Server 2011 have photo about 3000 pic.)   When I drag file to ID Photo Server 2011 it preparing file very slow.

I am having the same problem. It just started a week ago. I'm a photographer. I would take a data card full of photos and copy them to a folder on my desktop. I always make sure the file volumes match after the transfer is complete. Then after I eject the compact flash drive, I check the file volume again on the desktop folder before I reformat the flash drive.
In this case when I went back 24 hours later the folders were emissing files or totally empty. I just lost two days of event shooting and I'm going to have some really ****** off customers if I can't retrieve the files. There are roughly 700 digital photo files that are just gone. I don't even know the exact file names because I delete some images as I shoot.
Is there any way to see if these files are still on the drive and just missing their file names?

  • AirDisk vs. Networked drive very slow

    hi everyone,
have been searching and browsing the forum around this topic but couldn't find a real answer or fix to my "problem" yet.
i'm just really curious about why an external drive hooked up to the airport extreme is about 10 times slower than a harddrive shared from another mac using wifi through the same base station.
    setup is as follows:
LaCie BigDisk Extreme shared through a G4 Cube (love) > Ethernet Hub > Airport Extreme (Gigabit Ethernet) versus WD MyBook Premium II > USB 2.0 > Airport Extreme (Gigabit Ethernet)
i'm accessing both from a macbook (black one, latest model) and a macbook pro (latest model) - and transferring a file from the disk hooked up to the cube is about 10 times faster than the same file (or any other comparable in size) copied from the drive hooked up to the airport extreme basestation.
it does not make ANY difference at all if i set the basestation to any of the 4 options you find in the wireless radio mode options (802.11n 2.4/5GHz - b/g compatible), so i'm really curious if this is just a firmware issue (7.2.1) that will get fixed further down the road or if i'm doing something really stupid, or... if this is a half-baked feature never to be living up to the promise made?
    anyone? any ideas?
    thanks,

A Western Digital My Book Live. I've spent two days trading emails with a very nice person from the company who has asked me to try various fixes and nothing has worked. They are perplexed as to a solution and I'm close to pulling the plug on this endeavor.
I have an imac connected to a switch with the my book live and the imac connected to the switch. Switch connected to the wall ethernet jack that connects to the time capsule/airport device. The time capsule is connected to the verizon fios router/modem. I have the verizon wireless signal turned off. Everything else in the house has connected and has been working fine for a year. This network hard drive takes forever to access and is very slow.

    Hi Jdentremont,
Lync client gets user photos by first querying the Address Book Web Query (ABWQ) service on the server, which is exposed through the Distribution List Expansion web service. The client receives
the image file and then copies it to the user's cache to avoid downloading the image each time it needs to be displayed. The attribute values returned from the query are also stored in the cached Address Book Service entry for the user. The Address Book Service
deletes all cached images every 24 hours, which means that it can take up to 24 hours for new user images to be updated in the cache on the server.
To troubleshoot your problem, please follow the steps below:
    1.  Navigate to
     “X:\share\1-WebServices-1\ABfiles\000000000\000000000” folder. (ABS file share)
You should see some photo files in this folder as the following screenshot.
    2. Delete all the files in this folder.
    3. On test PC, delete local cache files.
    %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
    4. Sign-in Lync with the test account.
    5. Go back to the ABS file share, check if there is any Photo file in the folder.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • PSE 7 Downloader won't store photos on network drive

I'm running PSE7 on a Windows XP Media Center SP2 machine. Both my PSE catalog and my actual image files are located on a drive mounted as drive letter P: from a NAS device. This configuration worked great in PSE5. PSE7 doesn't seem to have any trouble working with the catalog on this drive, nor does it have a problem opening existing photos from folders on this drive. However, when I try to specify my P: drive as the "Save Files In" destination on the PSE7 Camera or Card Reader Preferences dialog, it tells me "Cannot write to specified directory", and won't let me choose it. Write permission on the mapped drive is wide open, and if I open a file in the PSE7 editor and try to save it somewhere on the P: drive it works just fine. How do I convince the downloader that P: is an acceptable place for it to put the downloaded files?
    Thanks,
    Tim

I tried changing the download destination in the Photo Downloader window, with the same results: "Cannot write to specified directory".
I notice that even though I've configured the NAS device to allow wide open read/write access to the folder in question, and all Windows users are in fact able to read/write files in that folder, when I check the permissions for the network folder from the Properties | Security tab, none of those Windows users appear to have write permission. Perhaps this is just due to the way the permissions assigned by my non-Windows NAS device are represented in Windows, but I wonder whether PSE 7 is looking at those same settings and using them to decide the folder's not available for downloading. I suspect that if I were attempting to specify a folder shared from another Windows box, I wouldn't have this problem, although I don't have a good way to test this at the moment...

  • Syncing photos from network drive

all my photos are stored on a network drive and itunes successfully syncs all photos from this drive to my iphone. however, the next time i turn on my computer and re-sync, i see from the photos tab that the location of my photos has been changed to the iphotos library, which i don't use.
this may be happening because i run itunes so soon after booting that the computer hasn't had the chance to find the network drive yet. and that's fine. but if i re-select the source of photos to the same network drive, itunes insists that it is a different library than on my iphone and wants to sync all the photos from scratch.
is there a way to indicate that this is the same source and not a new source?

Same results here... I have an Infrant ReadyNAS RAID file server that I bought to be my 'master' vault for all my data. My computers don't store any important data locally. Their "My Documents" shortcuts point to the fileserver.
When I tried to sync Apple TV to the My Pictures folder, iTunes would think for a few seconds and then give me the little exclaimation mark inside the triangle instead of the synching icon, and would go no further.
I was occasioanlly able to sync very small picture subfolders from under "My Pictures", but that was it.
Since I don't plan on moving the master copies of my photos off of the fileserver, I am just going to use a batch file to periodically mirror the x:\mypictures folder to c:\appletvsuckspicturemirror. Then I'll just set up Apple TC to go get the photos there instead.
    robocopy "x:\my_documents\mypictures" c:\appletvsuckspicturemirror /e
I use robocopy for lots of other stuff because it only copies new or modified files (it's a free microsoft utility)

  • Problems copying to SMB network drive

In glancing at the forum posts, I see that most people are having problems with SMB network drives. I thought I would post my experiences and see if they might lend some insight into correcting the issues.
I recently purchased a Coolmax CN-350 NAS, which works as both a SMB and FTP server. It shows up on my list of Shared drives just fine in the sidebar, and I can connect to it just fine through the finder. However, copying to the drive produces a "The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “About Stacks.pdf” can’t be read or written.(Error code -36)" error. The item I copy (text file, movie, pdf, etc) shows up on the drive anyway, but it is empty. Nothing new so far, based on what I've read in the forums. I tried copying some files to the NAS drive via FTP and they seemed to transfer just fine. I also can copy files to the NAS via SMB using muCommander. Saving to the NAS from some applications that I've tried so far seems to work (TextWrangler, Pages, Preview) though not from others (QuickTime Player, Illustrator CS3, iTunes). I can't double-click to open the files I created, or moved to the NAS via FTP, but in all cases I've tried so far (movies, pdfs, text files) I can open them from within the application.
Copying from the NAS seems to work without any issues. Files copied over to the NAS via FTP will copy back to the Mac without any errors, and the copied files will open just fine when I double-click them on the Mac, with no information lost.
I've tried some of the solutions & workarounds proposed in the forums here (numerical passwords, logging into the directory directly rather than just attach the drive directly, etc) but from what I'm reading around here, the problem seems to be with the Finder and how it sees the SMB drive. As a side note, when I checked Console, the message it gave for when I tried to use the Finder to copy files to the NAS, it gave the following message:
"10/30/09 9:45:05 AM kernel smb_maperr32: no direct map for 32 bit server error (0xc0000161)"
I'm hoping that this might help someone more clever than I, or perhaps even someone working on 10.6.2 so that this issue can be resolved in the next update. I'd like to think that this isn't some sort of subtle sabotage on Apple's part to try and encourage people to buy Time Capsules; they are cool of course, but I really can't afford one just to make NAS easier. Hope someone can make use of this.

Pretty much same story here. After upgrading to Snow Leopard I could copy things from the SMB drive to my local drive, but not open them by double-clicking.
I also got the -36 error code when I tried to copy files from my local drive to the SMB drive. BUT until about a week ago, I was able to copy the files via the terminal but that stopped working this weekend, which was kind of strange.
I installed the .2 update tonight hoping that would fix it but it didn't. I looked in the console and spotted the SMB error. Searched on Google and this was one of just four results! But I did search for the whole log entry.
Anyway Joseph, if you do find a solution, please post it here and I promise to do the same.
    Good luck!

  • Hp 8600 All in one printer problem with scanning through wired network its very slow!

    Hi
i have problem with scanning thru network which takes almost more than 2minutes very slow compared to scanning when printer connected locally with USB.  i need some solution to fix this issue. Plz advise me what needs to be done prior to scanning?

    Welcome to the community @Larrypat
I understand your printer is not connecting wireless and only connecting USB. I have some questions and ideas for you that should help. Let's get to it!
Could you please remove the USB cable, run the Print and Scan Doctor again and send me a screen shot of the results from running the diagnostic tool?
Also let me know which model from the C7200 series you have:
    HP Photosmart C7250 All-in-One Printer
     HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One Printer
     HP Photosmart C7288 All-in-One Printer
Try power cycling the network devices:
Turn off the printer and computer and unplug the router for 1 minute (do not press any buttons on the router).
Plug the router back in and wait another minute, next turn on the printer and computer. Run the Print and Scan Doctor afterwards and try printing.
Let me know how it goes and the results

  • [SOLVED] Network speed very slow, no apparent reason

Hello, recently I switched from Windows 7 RC1 to Arch on my home machine (I have used Gentoo, Ubuntu, and Fedora 10 on the same machine in the past), and for some reason network speed is very slow.
I have Verizon's 20mbit/5mbit package, and I have always gotten that speed.
Using speedtest.net and 100mb.test from cachefly on multiple computers I have come to the conclusion that it is infact my Arch install that is causing the problem:
    - All other machines on my network are getting 20/5 (both wired and wireless)
    - I ran a speedtest from 2 other machines using the ethernet cable that this PC is on.  Again, full 20/5.
    - scp transfer of 100mb.test from this PC -> other Arch box: ~2.8MB/s.
    - scp transfer of 100mb.test from other Arch box -> this PC: ~2.8MB/s.
    - scp transfer of 100mb.test from this PC -> UK VPS (100mbit line): ~539KB/s
    - scp transfer of 100mb.test from UK VPS -> this PC: ~76KB/s
    - scp transfer of 100mb.test from this PC -> Chicago Server (dual gbit lines): ~563KB/s
    - scp transfer of 100mb.test from Chicago Server -> this PC: ~91KB/s
    speedtest.net result:
Upload speed seems to be unaffected.
I have tried disabling TCP window scaling, and appending my hostname to /etc/hosts.
What is weird though is that the other Arch box has an identical network config,  I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work.
My NIC is an integrated Realtek something, I can get the exact model if needed.

    Hi, whipsch
Can you try ethtool to see if your ethernet card is actually negociating and using a 100Mb full duplex link on your LAN ? If not you can try to force the link parameter with ethtool. Also maybe the driver of your NIc has options related to link negociation.
    Hope this helps,

  • Slow performance of fetching BLOB data over network is very slow

    Dear Experts,
We are deploying a GIS application which handles with BLOB datatypes. Database Server is in RHEL and in 11gR2. The application is using asp.net 3.5 and using ODP.NET to connect with Oracle. But here is a performance chart which shows that performance is very slow when application and database server lie on different subnetwork.
    Case      Login Time
    Same Server(Both in 192.168.9.23)     20-25 sec
    Same Subnet (DB:192.168.9.25) (App: 192.168.9.23)     60-80 sec
Different Subnet (DB:192.168.11.153) (App:192.168.9.23)     More then 5 minutes
So what is the reason behind this and how can I improve performance if I want to keep application and database in diff machine?
    Thanks in advance.

Also, look into the various lob settings in ODP.NET.
I believe that by default in ODP.NET the LOB will be fetched in separate roundtrips but you can change this my messing with certain properties or using certain methods - apologies, a bit imprecise.
If you have a network issue then doing more roundtrips than you need to is just going to exacerbate the situation.
Trace the session - if it's networking or roundtrips you should see symptoms of it in a 10046 trace.

  • Network connection very slow, lot of drops

    Hello!
On my network, there's an ADSL modem; an AirPort Extreme is connected to it and all my computers are connected to that AirPort Extreme.
Initially, I had set the AirPort Extreme as a bridge and the modem was in PPPoE. However, I had weird troubles with that setup (one computer couldn't reach another one, not even ping) so I made the other way around: the modem is now in bridge mode and the AirPort Extreme handles the PPPoE connection.
Since then (at least, I guess), downloading from the Internet or simply browsing is a nightmare. Connections would start at a varying low rate (always less than 30 KB/s, sometimes 5 KB/s) and always slow down until the connection drops completely. For small files, I can hope to download a 1 MB file in 40 minutes; for larger ones, it's hopeless.
I've tried to rule out the AirPort Extreme, connecting one computer directly to the modem. I reset the modem (since it's in bridge mode and it's beyond the subnet made from the AirPort Extreme, how can I reach it from my network?) and enter my ISP data. When all the lights on the modem are fine, it tells me some tests failed; I can't connect to the Internet that way. It looks like the modem lost its ability to connect as PPPoE when I defined it as a bridge (?).
I then tried to rule out the modem. I connected my computer and the ADSL line to the AirPort Extreme (which still had the PPPoE settings); the AirPort Extreme would not connect or reach a DNS (what's the purpose of having PPPoE settings if it can't connect to the Internet without even passing by a modem in bridge mode?).
In short, I can't rule out either the modem nor the AirPort Extreme, because they both can't connect to the Internet separately (the modem could before I inverted which device is in bridge mode). After all my attempts, the only way to get Internet back is to set the modem again as a bridge and use the AirPort Extreme for the PPPoE, which makes the whole problem of a very slow connection (even unusable) that I'm trying to repair. I'm lost at that point.
Any help would be really welcome!

    Bob Timmons wrote:
    Two possibilities:
    1) The modem is not working correctly and should be replaced
If that's the case, then I'm feeling guilty, as it worked before I set it as a bridge.
    2) Your log in information has changed due to service provider updates. Contact your provider to verify your account details
It's actually my mother who created that account; I'll ask her further.
    my native language isn't English
    But, your English is excellent.
    Thank you.
Some countries use PPPoA authentication, and not PPPoE.  Although they are similar, if your provider really uses PPPoA credentials, then you cannot log on from your Mac or use the AirPort router to provide the log on authorization, since Apple does not support PPPoA.
Well, I tried using PPPoA recently and it wasn't better. Also, the fact that the AirPort is currently the one making the PPPoE authentication seems to definitively indicate it's not PPPoA (thanks to your information that it wouldn't work in that case).
Generally, my opinion would be that things will work better if you use the modem or a modem/router to provide the connection service and run the AirPort in Bridge Mode.....rather than trying to put the modem in Bridge Mode and use the AirPort to provide the connection service.
Yes, I agree. Actually, I had another problem with the previous setup (AirPort as bridge and modem for PPPoE) where, on my LAN with two computers, only one could reach the other one (the connection worked in one direction only); I couldn't even use file sharing, Remote Desktop or even ping (because, even trying from the working sense, the response would often not come back). In this Apple forum, I got the suggestion to exchange which device was in bridge mode and, indeed, now I can communicate from and to all computers. Since I've realised my connection to the Internet is now mostly broken, I should have been satisfied with the previous problem…
I'm hoping to go back to an Internet connection that works, and not get the first issue of computers not being reachable on the LAN. The big trouble here is that all these behaviours I've experienced are weird (am I outside of the logic with my use of the devices?). I'm also noticing that the first problem sounds to have arrived since I replaced my old router by the AirPort Extreme.
If your modem is 4-5 years old, then that might be another reason to consider replacing it.  Ask your provider what they would recommend.
Wow, mine is actually way older than that! I don't think we've ever changed it since we had an Internet connection (around 1998). At this time, things were not designed to break too soon, right?
Perhaps it had to break with this duration of use, and it just waited that I change settings to break… Doesn't sound a likely scenario, however.
I'm considering trying with my neighbour's modem (with his connection's settings), with the AirPort in bridge mode. If it works, I'll be almost certain the problem is the modem, I'm right?
Thank you very much for your help so far; things are getting clearer!

  • Sending mail with "sent" is fast, but copying the sent mail is very slow, sometimes takes a minute; can it be speeded up?

After hitting "send", a screen comes up showing a moving bar "copying the mail to the sent folder", the bar goes fully right on
the screen but then I must wait, sometimes a minute for the copying process to complete. Then I always get a screen message
next that says in effect could not copy, so I close that screen and then go to my sent folder and the email I sent shows up. So,
the copy process is very slow and then I get a message could not copy, but in fact a copy does appear in sent folder????
    Thank you

You do not mention how big is the Sent folder.
I would first try to archive a load of old sent emails. This will reduce the file size. Maybe the delay is due to a large file.
    Set up Archive Options:
    * https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/archived-messages
choose to archive by month and year and keep folder structure.
Archive anything older than a month.

  • Trouble importing large number of photos from network drive

I just purchased my first Mac. I have attempted to import my photo library from my NAS device. Iphoto takes hours to perform this import. In fact after 2 days of watching it crunch, I terminated the import.
I can see and open the photos from the iMac. I disabled AirPort and starting using ethernet just in case the wireless network wasn't fast enough to download all the photos.
There are about 12k photos (12G) to import.
I don't understand what the problem could be. I never had this problem with a PC & Adobe PhotoAlbum.
    I will appreciate any help.

    guadman:
As you found Airport is not fast enough for that kind of massive file transfer and you might have run into a ownership/permissions issues with a direct import from a NAS device. I suggest you copy the folders of files onto your desktop first. The download and run BatChmod on the foldesr with the settings shown here, putting your administartive name in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Then import those folders into iPhoto. That should be successful.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Help!  Photos Library copied to external hard drive, but after preparing the library I can NOT see any pictures.

I am having a tough time and searched, but have not found an answer that works.  Last night I copied my iPhoto Library to an external hard drive because when I initially attempted to set up Photos, I got an error that said I needed 88 GB of space for the transfer.  I got the iPhoto Library onto the hard drive and reopened the app and it prepared the library.  It was talking forever, so I went to bed.  This morning, I have this screen...
There are NO pictures in the actual app.  I went to the external hard drive and see that the Photos Library exists...
I have tried to hold command and option and restart Photos and I did get a prompt that it was repairing; however, this was unsuccessful.  Please help!  I know the photos are there because when I show package contents, I see them all in my Masters/Old Masters folders.
    Thank you!

Agree with baltwo, though even if you have saved the install app I wouldn't use it unless its been used to install a known good copy of the OS already.
In your case, that probably means start fresh:
Restart the computer, holding down 'command' and 'r'. When the recovery disk window shows, choose 'Reinstall Mac OS X'.
