OSX 10.6.8 wont update at restart

I used to think it was because I wasn't plugged into the network or that the power cable wasn't connected. But both were when I tried today.
As I see other's have experienced, my MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.8 does not update when I hit software update + install + restart. All that happens is that the mac log outs of my user, stalls and lands on the log in screen. The MacBook itself never shuts down and more important, none of the software is updated.
Please help. Any way to download these manually?

  • My macbook is running on OSX 6.8 and wont update to yosemite

so my macbook (from 2011) is running on Osx 6.8 and meets all the requirements to update to yosemite, but when i go to the mac app store to download it it says that it cant download it. why is that?

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $20 for a single user, or $30 for a family pack that covers up to 5 Macs.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.

  • I have a late 2011 macbook pro and it wont update the firmware to 2.7, it downloads the update then says its installing it but when i go back to software update it keeps coming up saying it needs to be updated

I have a late 2011 macbook pro running OSX Lion, and it wont update the firmware to 2.7, it downloads the update then says its installing it but when i go back to software update it keeps coming up saying it needs to be updated. Im wondering what can i do to stop this or get it to update.

Once it is downloaded you need to restart the computer if it does not restart automatically. When it next starts up you should note a progress bar appearing below the Apple logo. When done the computer will restart once more. The new firmware should now be installed.

What is a error message and what do you see when it appears?
Haven't much problem with Airs around here, since they have a SSD they tend to be more reliable.
Perhaps it was a bad update, have you ran through this list of possible fixes?
Do as many as possible, starting with #1. Until the problem is resolved.
Use the boot 10.6 USB instead of the disk of course.

  • Why does the App store say 'download' to OSX Mavericks when i have already downloaded the update, and restarted the computer? I can't find Mavericks icon on the dashboard or launchpad either! Help!

Why does the App store say 'download' to OSX Mavericks when i have already downloaded the update, and restarted the computer?

It sounds like you've installed Mavericks.  You can confirm this by clicking on the Apple located at the top left of the screen and choosing "About This Mac" from the menu.  You should see a window appear with the text "Version 10.9.1" near the middle.
If it says "Version 10.9.1", then you've installed Mavericks.  It still says "Download" in the App Store because you can still download the operating system after installing it.  This is useful if you want to download it for a friend, or create a USB boot drive.

  • I'm trying to update iTunes from 10.2.2 (12) But it wont update to latest version!?

    Hi everyone,
I have iTunes 10.2.2 (12) and now i want to update it to version 10.4. I tried the applicationupdate on the system menu, i tried the "look for updates" within iTunes, and i tried to download iTunes, and install it. But NOTHING works, it wont update to version 10.4.1, or to any other version either. And yes, I have tried to restart computer and doesnt work?! My OSX version is btw OSX Lion 10.7.1. But it didnt work on Snowleopard last week either. Please, what should I do to make it update?!

Glad you got things working again, and many thanks for reporting back with your resolution.
A quick note for other folks getting the following complication:
After that, tried to install the new version and got a bunch of errors:  "Could not open key:UNKNOWN\Components\ ~~~~a lot of numbers and letters~~~~~\ ~~~~~~a lot of numbers and letters~~~~.Verify that you have sufficient acess to that key, or contact your support personnel." that I also found referenced in these forums.  I had to go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData \S-1-5-18\Components and manually add the Administrators group with full access to the keys it complained about.  After doing this, I got more of the same errors but for different keys - I assume each component that installs would error out after the first one and it would move on to the next component.
I had to do this and restart the installer about 10 times before the installer completed
The set of instructions from the following post are worth a try with that. (It's a quicker process, and for some unexplained reason tends often to work better than adjust each set of permissions manually.)

  • My iPad 1's apps wont update?

My iPad 1 apps wont update. It has the loading bar half across the apps but when I click on it it says 'app name' could not be downloaded at this time. I have tryed signing out and back into my Apple account and restarting my iPad but neither worked. The strange thing is the new apps I try to download work fine. This is very annoying as I can't use the apps. Please help!

I've seen periodic flakyness in the App Store (mainly on the device) ever since iOS 7 was released over a month ago. Could just be another one of those moments, especially with the new iPad Air releasing today with many users activating & downloading.

    In addition to Stedman's spot-on reply --
When you buy an upgrade disk, all updates in that OS can be found on Software Update.
For instance, I bought Snow Leopard at 10.6.
All other updates have been free and downloadable.  So I'm not a 10.6.7.
    10.4 (Tiger) went to 10.4.11.
    10.5 (Leopard) went to 1.5.8
10.6(Snow Leopard) is currently at 10.6.7.
Now, when Lion come out (the next major upgrade of OSX), I will have to pay to go to 10.7.
After that, updates are free til 10.8 comes out.

    Hi,
    /Users/sarahschadek/Desktop/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari
Move the Safari app from the Desktop to the Applications folder.
    Restart your Mac.
    That's why you see this:
When I try to do the updates my computer says it has ready it goes through like it is downloading them then at the end it says some of the files could not be saved to "/" files.
After your restart your Mac, click the Apple  menu (top left in your screen) then click:  Software Update ...

Don’t use the supplied installation cd.
First off, if you don't already have it, download and install the latest iTunes 5.0
Then download and install the latest iPod Updater, then restart your computer.
Run the updater program, connect your iPod when prompted (not before), and follow the set up procedure, and you should be good to go.

  • My Apple Tv wont update

My apple atv wont update successfully I restarted, formatted and did everything and it wont update at all. What do I do?

If you are running v5.1 software and your Apple TV is connected to LAN with ethernet cable, there is a software bug that affects certain routers.  Try connectiing to your LAN with wifi.  The bug is fixed in v5.1.1

  • TS1702 i have recently updated some Apps....but all they are doing is waiting and wont update...any help out there

i am wondering why my Apps wont update on my IPad 2 with IOS6

If there are multiple apps trying to download at once, only one can download at a time and the rest say "Waiting" until it is then their turn. Try this. Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it should resume the download.
    If that doesn't work:
    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

  • Ipod 5 wont update

I have an ipod 5 that is not even a year old and it will not let me update my apps. When I click the update it asks for my password and after i put it in it looks like its going to start but then it just stops...no message or anything. Also when im on Facebook or checking my email and i click on recent post it will just keep saying updating but wont update until i restart my ipod. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>iTunes and App stores and sign out and sign back in
    - Update the apps in your iTunes library and then sync.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
