OSX 10.6 and a missing font

I would be very grateful for a pointer here...
I updated my home iMac to OSX10.6, then up to 10.6.2
I left the machine and the upgrade seems fine. However, my daughter's Club Penguin game on the web won't show some of the type and I think a font has gone missing/ been messed up. All other writing appears ok but not the name/ password or some of the web textboxes
How do I find the missing font and re-install it? i am wary of messing with the fonts.
(I have a time machine backup ok)

You can migrate your MobileMe account to iCloud at http://me.com/move even with Snow Leopard - when asked to confirm that you have Lion on your Mac, just lie and say 'yes'.
If you have MobileMe mail set up to collect mail from external POP accounts you should cancel this before migrating, or you may find it still working in iCloud (where it isn't supposed to) and with no way of stopping it. You may find the MobileMe email settings will continue to work for a time after migrating but it will stop eventually so you should not rely on this. You should delete your MobileMe email account from Mail.
You can then set up Mail manually in Snow Leopard to access iCloud email; it's a slight fudge because the 'wizard' will attempt to connect you to MobileMe as soon as you enter an @me.com address. The process, which includes a workaround for this, is described here:
http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudmail.html
You may be able to sync your calendars to iCloud by means of an unsupported hack, but you cannot sync Contacts or Bookmarks, and iCloud's other facilities will not work. This page outlines the situation when you migrate to iCloud, including a link to the calendar hack:

  • Finding and replacing Missing Fonts

    Dear All,
I need to find the missing fonts in the InDesing document and replace them into correct fonts using JavaScript.
    Pl. help.
    Thanks,
    ArcRaj

    Ole,
For a moment you had me rejoicing (I hadn't tried this in 5.0.3 yet). But my joy was short-lived, as I still can't get it to work. For instance,
    app.findTextPreferences.appliedFont =
    app.activeDocument.fonts.item ('Swiss 721 BT\tBold');
still tells me that "The requested font is not available." That font is not installed on my system but is used in the active document.
Absent fonts seem to confuse ESTK. Getting some properties of this non-installed font leads to different results:
    -- app.activeDocument.fonts.item ('Swiss 721 BT\tBold').index
gives -1. Don't know what that means, but there's a result and no error.
    -- app.activeDocument.fonts.item ('Swiss 721 BT\tBold').fontFamily
gives Swiss 721 BT. Result as expected. (It's not the case that to return this property ESTK doesn't bother to check whether the font exists: ...('Olav Kvern\tBold').fontFamily produces an error.)
    -- app.activeDocument.fonts.item ('Swiss 721 BT\tBold').location
doesn't do much apart from repeating the property name. No error, nothing in the console; just "location" in the staus bar at the bottom of ESTK's app window.
    Am I missing something?

  • Is there a way to automate missing fonts in thousands of small pdf's for print

    Greetings,
We are receiving thousands of small PDF's from several differnet locations with missing fonts. The controller on the printer is having to perform
font substitution on each page. This causes the printer to cycle and not run at rated speed.
I am wondering is there a way to have these files insert all the missing fonts before they reah the controller on the printer?
    Thank you so much.
    HDRDR

There are tools out in the market which should be able to embed and fix missing fonts. You might look at something like PitStop server.
If no commercial product is out there, you might talk to the developers of such tools for a customization.
    Hope this can help.

  • Preview is missing fonts??

    Hi all.
Sometimes when I open a document in Preview, I get a message like "this document needs such-and-such a font, since it is missing it may not display correctly."
Sometimes I don't get that message, but I see distorted graphics instead of text in areas where (I assume) fonts are missing.
Is there a way to find and install missing fonts?

You could then try to reinstall Preview from the OS X disks. Download Pacifist. Put your OS X install disk in the drive and click the button in Pacifist to "Open Apple Install Disks". Once it's done reading it, or them in, find the Preview application by expanding the folders presented. You are of course looking for the one in the Applications folder.
Highlight the Preview app and click on the Install button at the upper left. Pacifist will extract, verify and install Preview, replacing the old copy on the hard drive. Eject the OS X disk.
Keep Pacifist open and do the same with the 10.5.4 Combo update file. If there's an update to Preview, you'll need to install that, too. It will also appear as Preview.app. When you click the Install button in Pacifist, it will tell you that Preview already exists and give you multiple choices. You want to click the "Update" button.
You can of course get to the same point by performing an Archive and Install, but this will take far less time and only replace the one application.

  • Missing fonts in Windows InDesign CC'14 vs OSX

We are a school with about 500 Windows 7 machines. We also have an iMac suite (about 25 strong). We have a Creative Cloud subscription and have deployed it to all of our computer suites and our iMac suite. CC 2014 versions of the relevant products have all been pushed out, so there should be parity between the two platforms.
Our problem is that our Windows clients are outright missing 90% of the TrueType fonts that are available on the OSX (Mavericks) clients. Most of the Media classes are taken in the iMac suite, and therefore the majority of their content has been created in there, but two or three times per week the classes rotate to a Windows suite. Some students are encountering issues where fonts are missing after opening their INDDs in InDesign for Windows.
I discovered that InDesign for OSX has vastly more fonts than on its Windows counterpart, specifically of the TrueType variety. About 90% of the TrueType fonts on Windows were missing. As far as I could tell, all of the OpenType fonts matched.
Students get the follow dialogue when they launch InDesign with a missing font:
So yeah, that's my issue. I've literally spent all afternoon researching this issue to no avail and am pretty much stumped at this point.
Any help and advice will be more than appreciated!
    Thanks for reading.

Early on in the life of Mac OS X (which has been around for over 10 years in multiple versions—we're now at 10.10), Apple advertised how many beautiful fonts were available with Mac OS X. And, it's true, they do install a lot of TrueType fonts.
Microsoft provides much fewer. As far as I can tell, most of them are installed with you install Microsoft Office products.
It's just the way it is.
I guess you could show students a list of the fonts installed with Creative Cloud apps (Minion Pro, Myriad Pro, etc.). You could also teach them about downloading Typeset fonts (although they won't be able to carry those to another location which doesn't have a CC subscription).

    Hi
I am encountering a missing font error on Adobe Illustrator for a font that I recently bought - Centrale Sans Bold. This font is clearly installed in the system's font folder and is also showing in the font list on Adobe Illustrator. But when I open an existing file containing this font it is giving the error "The document uses fonts or characters which are not available or are in a different format than originally specified".
We have also bought Centrale Sans regular from a different website as we couldn't find both on one, could that be clashing somehow?
Also the existing file was created on MAC plattform and we are using a windows plattform to open it. That to me doesn't seem like an issue as all other files are opening up fine and I have bought around 47 fonts and only this font seems to be not working. I have also written to the website I bought it from but I have also bought around 20-25 fonts from them and all the other fonts are working fine too. Maybe its an illustrator related problem?
    Please help!!!!!!

There is one way its getting fixed. Once I update my Adobe Illustrator CC to Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 it is further allowing me to go into the system folder and allocate the font to the file so that it can replace it. My only concern now is that our MAC partners who will receive these files back from us have Adobe CS6. We will down save it to CS6 but I hope they won't experience any font issues because of us using CC 2014? Any light you can shed on this?

  • Opening a legacy file in CC2014, the fonts in the file (which are loaded and accessible with Suitcase Fusion 6), won't display. I get the [Jensen text] font name indicating a missing font file. YET, when I make a new file, the fonts are available. Any ide

Okay, that was a long title. Sorry about that.
Longer version now. The font Janson Text is an old Type 1 Postscript font. If I make a new document in InDesign CC2014, this font is completely available to me. HOWEVER, if I open a legacy file that uses this same font, it shows up with the usual pink highlighting.
I know the font is available to InDesign, because I made a new test document and set type with it.
If I try using the Type > Find Font.. option to replace the 'missing' typefaces, InDesign won't let me, not recognizing the font that I just used in the new test document.
I just tried exporting the defective file as an IDML file, then opening the IDML file. The font is now working properly.
This is a real problem, as the file I'm trying to open is a book that we need to reprint. I now have to go through it page by page to see if any linebreaks have changed.
    WHAT CAUSES THIS, please?

  • ATM Light and Missing Fonts in Designer

When I try to open pdf files created on my computer in Designer, it suggests that all of the fonts are not in my system and wants to replace them. Of course they are there, they were just applied to text in the design program before I made the pdf file. I have ATM Light installed to manage fonts on my Windows 2000 computer. I'm wondering if others with ATM Light see the same behaviour. I've read that fonts need to be in the system fonts or designer subdirectory in order for them to be used by Designer. With ATM Light, I am able to store fonts anywhere on my computer and have Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc use them with no trouble. Is this not the case for Designer?

For some reason i tried booting in safe mode before i wanted to reinstall things. And in safe mode everything was ok, all the fonts were working, menus were ok etc.
So i went back into normal mode and it looks quite ok, but context menus are still missing fonts and even more odd... when i'm in fontbook for example the finderbar has the default font, but in safari and finder itself the font changes to something old again.
I'm kind of scared to reinstall and archive things because i have lots off settings for wireless printers and internet locations on my mac school set for me. And i think i cannot really move those files back and let them work after the install...

  • How to replace missing fonts with a specific font (and not a suggested font)

    Hello all!
Looking to replace missing fonts within my document - but the drop-down selection only gives a couple of suggestions, none of which are the font I want to use.
How can I replace the fonts with a font of my choosing?
I've attached an image to give more clarity - notice how the drop-down only gives the option to select between 3 fonts without an option to select your own font - many thanks!

Same problem! The only solution I found is to prepare a textbox in a new file with all the font you need. Copy and past in the file you need to change font. Go to type/risolve missing font. Will open the same window in the pic you pasted. Then you find the font in the dropdown menu. I have to change all the Helvetica family ...it's a long go. If some one could save me. Hope to be usefull to your problem.

Go find the graphic in question, and open it in its native program. The problem will have to be fixed there.

  • [AS][CS5] Find and replace a missing font

I have an overly complex script that compares the document's fonts missing fonts to the system fonts and makes a best guess. It was written to handle conversion of Multi-ad Creator documents to InDesign. It has worked 100% of the time so far. It needs a LOT of cleaning up and tweaking to make effecient, but that is not the point of my question. Everyday I am sent an InDesign file I have to work with and everyday it will has a missing font. Arial (OTF).
I ran my script thinking it would replace it with Arial (TT). No problem...
    Ran it... nothing.
When I use the find dialog in Indesign to search based on the applied font it works, the returned properties in AS contain:
return properties of find text preferences
    font:"Arial (OTF)"
    Ok, fine so I try...
    set properties of find change text options to {case sensitive:false, whole word:false, include footnotes:false, include hidden layers:false, include locked layers for find:true, include locked stories for find:true, include master pages:true}
set applied font of find text preferences to "Arial (OTF)"
set applied character style of change text preferences to "Page&Header"
        tell document 1
            set myFoundItems to change text
        end tell
    Nothing.
This has pretty much worked on every other font I've tried, so what am I doing wrong here?

    All right, back at it....
I've run into even more fonts that it is an issue with. My basic thoughts on this are as follows: When bringing a document from Multi-ad Creator to InDesign the fonts are named in a way that InDesign does not recognize them. The thing is those fonts are really fonts that are on my system. It is simply a matter of rearranging the name of the applied font to match what InDesign would recognize. The thing is InDesign will allow me to use Find/Change to modify the fonts in the document.
Now the fonts I've run across that give me an issue are fonts that do not correspond to any font on my system. I do not have any TrueType fonts, this document I opened today did...
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5"
        set myDocument to active document
        tell myDocument
            set myPage to page 1
            return properties of every font
        end tell
    end tell
     {{font family:"Helvetica (TT)", PostScript name:"Helvetica-Bold", parent:document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", index:1, name:"Helvetica (TT)     Bold", object reference:font "Helvetica (TT)     Bold" of document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", status:not available}, {font family:"Helvetica (TT)", PostScript name:"Helvetica", parent:document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", index:0, name:"Helvetica (TT)     Regular", object reference:font "Helvetica (TT)     Regular" of document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", status:not available}, {font family:"Times (TT)", PostScript name:"Times-Bold", parent:document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", index:3, name:"Times (TT)     Bold", object reference:font "Times (TT)     Bold" of document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", status:not available}, {font family:"Times (TT)", PostScript name:"Times-Roman", parent:document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", index:0, name:"Times (TT)     Regular", object reference:font "Times (TT)     Regular" of document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", status:not available}}
Ok, so let me try this (commented out are the different ways I've tried):
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5"
        set myDocument to active document
        tell myDocument
            set myPage to page 1
--return properties of "Helvetica (TT)" --"Helvetica (TT)     Bold"
return properties of font "Helvetica (TT)" -- "Helvetica (TT)   Bold"
set myDocumentFonts to name of every font
        end tell
    end tell
Adobe InDesign CS5.5 got an error: Unable to retrieve the font's UID from its name.
I was able to get the properties of the font using:
    return properties of every font whose PostScript name is "Helvetica-Bold"{font family:"Helvetica (TT)", PostScript name:"Helvetica-Bold", parent:document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", index:1, name:"Helvetica (TT)     Bold", object reference:font "Helvetica (TT)     Bold" of document id 34 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5", status:not available}
Now I thought of trying the following:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5"
set find text preferences to nothing
set change text preferences to nothing
        --Set the find options.
        set properties of find change text options to {case sensitive:false, whole word:false, include footnotes:false, include hidden layers:false, include locked layers for find:true, include locked stories for find:true, include master pages:true}
set applied font of find text preferences to every font whose PostScript name is "Helvetica-Bold"
set applied font of change text preferences to "Helvetica"
        tell document 1
            set myFoundItems to change text
        end tell
    end tell
Now this does result in something, the find of the Find/Change dialog is looking for Helvetica + Bold. The only problem with that is it isn't looking for the TT font.
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5"
        set myDocument to active document
        tell myDocument
set myfind to properties of every font whose PostScript name is "Helvetica-Bold"
        end tell
set find text preferences to nothing
set change text preferences to nothing
        --Set the find options.
        set properties of find change text options to {case sensitive:false, whole word:false, include footnotes:false, include hidden layers:false, include locked layers for find:true, include locked stories for find:true, include master pages:true}
set applied font of find text preferences to name of myfind
set applied font of change text preferences to "Helvetica"
        tell document 1
            set myFoundItems to change text
        end tell
    end tell
And nothing happens.. other than it trying to search for Helvetica + Bold
I'll try some other ideas later when I have more time.

  • Receiving 'Missing Font' message - but have font on my system; and no one can open my PDFs

I have just started using a new Ind template (developed by someone else). Everytime I go to open the .ind file I get a "Missing Font" error box that says my document "uses one or more fonts which are not currently available on your system." Specifically, the font the error message notes is "Univers 57 Condensed." But I do have that font on my system. I reinstalled all of my Univers fonts again just to be on the safe side, I upgraded from CS3 to CS4 and I updgraded my Acrobat for v6 to v9 and I am still having the issue. Now, I am able to create a PDF and I can open it myself no problem. But when I send the PDF to anyone else they can't open it, and then get an error message that says: "Cannot extract the embedded font 'GRCMCG+UniversLSTD-CN'.  Does anyone have an idea as to what the issue may be - I don't know what else to try. Thank You!!!

If that's the case the font you've got installed is obviously seen as a different one than the one in the template by Indesign.  Howver once you've used Find Font and saved the document you shouldn't get that warning again, right?
As to why other people can't open it I don't know....  I have had it in the past when a document is emailed that it gets damaged, could that be a possibility?

  • Missing Font, Font Book, and a Game?

I'm trying to run Wildlife Tycoon- Venture Africa on my 15" PB. It crashes soon after it is launched. I'm working with the developer and in WTVA's consol log a fatal fault is mentioned:
Error creating font [Arial (14)] -- it doesn't exist on this machine.
Fatal-ISV: (../engine/dgl/gFont.cc @ 39) Error, The Arial Font must always
    be available!
A followup from their tech support indicates that the Arial font needed is "Arial regular" with a size of 14. I've found Font Book on my PB in the Applications folder. There appears to be 3 versions of Arial, but none are Arial regular.
I have no idea why this font is missing. Arial regular seems like a font my PB should have. My G5 apparently has it because the game launches on it. Has anyone heard of this issue before (missing fonts)?
Font Book is not very user friendly but it looks like Adding Arial regular is as simple as locating a copy of this font and dumping it into my font folder?
Can anyone offer any ideas where I can find this font onlline and if my premise about adding the font is correct? If not how do I get this font installed on my PB?
(I'm currently away from home on a trip so if I don't find this font online, I'm going to try to find it on my G5 and transfer it to my PB.)
    Thanks!

Aha! Then you are missing the normal Arial face. Microsoft used to make a set of fonts available free called the "Web font kit", or something like that. It included Arial, among a bunch of other commonly used fonts. Unfortunately, they no long offer it.
But! They do have this one, which includes a copy of Arial identical to the one I listed. Download the link for "CoreFonts_update.bin" and you'll be set with a copy of Arial that should make the game happy.

  • DeComplier and missing fonts

    Hello
I don't have the original source files so I had to resort to
    a de-complier. I purchased So-think. When I de-complied the swf it
prompts me for missing fonts. Once I replace the fonts some of the
text in the fla displays and some does not. A majority of the
images are jumped and look nothing like the orginal SWF. Has anyone
experienced this? Also, I think the SWF might be pulling in text or
    images from another file?
    Thanks for any support,

Do you really mean that they are in "/System/Fonts"? That folder is not part of the proper OS X system file hierarchy, which would be "/System/Library/Fonts" -- if a font is in the place you indicated, it will not be recognized.
You should be able to add the fonts in the proper location by using Font Book -- under the Font Book File menu, choose "Add Fonts...", then navigate to them on your hard drive and follow the directions. This should make the OS (and Font Book) aware of them. (Alternatively, you could simply move the font files and into /Library/Fonts.)

  • Keynote and Missing Fonts

    Hey all,
I just fired up Keynote for the first time, selected the showtime layout, and then got a console full of errors. Well, it was actually the same error repeating itself. It was saying that I was missing Gill Sans and Markerfelt Thin.
I searched and found that I actually had both of these fonts, but Keynote doesn't seem to notice. They both are in /System/Fonts.
    Any suggestions?
