I tried to install Firefox 4.0 and I got an error message 10661 and it said my system would not support it. I have Mac laptop with MAC OSX 10.4.11. Why won't it install using this operating system?

Firefox 4 doesn't run on a PowerPC Mac.
Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • Adobe Reader 9/Mac OSX 10.5.4/Internal Error after installing

Just purchased a new iMac with OSX 10.5.4 installed. I have 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Acrobat Reader v8.x won't run, so downloaded and installed v9 from the official Adobe web site. When I attempt to launch Acrobat Reader 9 I get the message "An internal error has occurred." I cannot go any further or do anything else. I've downloaded Reader 9 several times but the same problem keeps happening. I also purchased a new MacBook and Reader 9 installs and runs on that machine without any problems. Anyone have any idea why this might be happening on my iMac? Without Acrobat Reader it can really be a drag trying to work with PDF's.

I was wrong on both counts. With the help of the local Apple store, I found a solution. First, I Moved to Trash all adobe related files/folders from /Users/*myaccount*/Library/Cache and /Users/*myaccount*/Library/Preferences. When I started "Adobe Reader 9", I at least got the license agreement but again it failed with an "internal error". I then moved the /Users/*myaccount*/Library/Application Support/Adobe folder to my desktop. I was then able to start "Adobe Reader 9" successfully.
I was having the "Internal Error" message on all my repeated installs of Reader in Mac OS 10.6 ("Snow Leopard") and this fixed it for me. The only thing I did different, was after the app finally launched without an error, I dragged all the non-Acrobat Reader folders inside of /Users/*myaccount*/Library/Application Support/Adobe back to the folder. I then re-launched Reader just to check and all was fine.
Thanks! This fixed my Adobe Reader on Snow Leopard problem.

  • The latest osx update has caused keychain errors on my macbook pro...what should I do?

I downloaded and installed the latest osx update last night (10.9.2) and now I'm getting login errors when trying to download emails and keychain errors when using Google Chrome or Safari. I have no idea how to solve the problems caused by this update. My macbook pro is older - 2008. Help, please? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

I should have clarified above....."keychain errors", not just login errors. Thanks again.

  • Can´t open my osx system due to an error after resizing my bootcamp partition

Well, i recently installed windows 7 in my mac with the bootcamp, after that i realized that 100 gb (the space i used for the new partition) was not enough, then i searched for a way to rezise my windows drive, i first resized the mac disk so i could upgrade the windows with more space and found Mini-Tool Partition Wizard (third party) to do that. Did the procedure and after restarting the pc it reopened on windows but with this error http://i.imgur.com/TW05ZZw.jpg, meanwhile i tried to "enter" or "esc" but my keyboard didnt work. All i want is a way to get to my osx system so i can erase windows 7 and install it again setting the space that i want in the process.

This brings up the Recovery Console. Do not make any changes, but can you post the output (using Terminal) of
    diskutil list
    diskutil cs list
You can use the Safari available in the Recovery Console to post information here.
From Boot Camp 5.1: Frequently asked questions
How can a Windows partition be resized after Windows is installed?
You need to delete the Windows partition using the Boot Camp Assistant, and start over to change the size of the Windows partition. Back up your important Windows files first.

  • EMac wont install OSX, fails on install with errors every time

I have a 1.25GHz emac that I just recently got, Well it wouldnt boot at first at all and had the Rom password crap on it. So i got rid of all of that and now it boots from the CD just fine it just wont install OSX im using a Retail Black disc for Tiger and it just wont get past a certain spot in the install and fails with errors every time. Any suggestions? Ive tried to install panther & Jaguar and neither of those discs will boot.
    Thanx
    Jeremy

Sometimes, the OSX installer wants a clean partition. As the computer is new to you and probably has no files on the drive you need, I suggest you wipe the drive before trying again. Boot from the install CD and choose "Open Disk Utility" from the installer's File menu. Use DU to erase and reformat the disk, choosing "Mac Extended (Journaled)" format.
This will clear any old files that are interfering with the installer and leave a blank slate.

My Mac OSX (version 10.7.5) is coming up with error message when I try to write a disc "The disc can’t be burned because the disc drive is not accessible (error code 0x80020020)." I have tried several discs with the same message - Same also when I tried my external disc writer. Both disc drives will read my discs that have music or photos on it, it just won't write any new discs - any clues?

    Hi Klaus1
So, I tried all the suggestions and followed the links - all to no avail.
as you can see, (screenshot below) my iMac is a 21.5 inch late 2009 model which isn't showing in the updates listed above
My system report shows that my Mac has the following:
I reset the PRAM and the SMC - still have the same error message when I try to burn discs. I've used both CD's and DVD's and tried with my external Discwriter too.
    Any further suggestions??

  • Lion Server and TimeMachine Error 13

    Hello,
I have a problem with a Lion Server and TimeMachine service.  I have enabled the service and selected a volume for it.  The server creates the share and does not report aby errors.  If I go to a client machine and open TM I can see the "Backups" share and select it.  The users credentials are validated witout a problem but when the backup is started it will end with the error "Cannot create sparseimage error 13"
I have checked that the share is visible to the client machine and the client has write permissions for the share.
Any ideas why this is happening?

  • TimeMachine errors when backing up to XSan Volume

    Hi all,
I've been trying to solve this problem for a while. I have an apple xraid unit with a timemachine enabled afp share that I want to use for client backups over our network.
10.5 and 10.6 clients initially can configure timemachine preferences to use this share and the first backup image gets written. However, on subsequent backups a new sparse-image bundle is created with a numerically incremented filename. (i.e. client_backup.sparsebundle gets created then sometime later timemachine creates client_backup(01).sparsebundle).
Also, I've seen subsequent backup attempts simply fail with "Volume cannot be accessed (exit code 109)" errors. From the client console, I see these log messages:
Mounted network destination using URL: afp://[email protected]/TimeMachine
    com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.netauth.sysagent[1333]) Exited with exit code: 255
diskarbitrationd[13]: unable to repair /dev/disk2s2 (status code 0x00000008)
om.apple.backupd[1332]: Failed to mount disk image /Volumes/TimeMachine/client_backup.sparsebundle (DIHLDiskImageAttach returned: 109)
Has anyone seen similar behavior? I'm stumped as to why the first backup is apparently successful but subsequent backups fail. Thanks for reading.

I'm seeing the same problem over our network to an Xserve with an external RAID 5 volume.
The user that's having the problem had lots of errors when trying to back up due to funny files on his hard drive that were WAY down in the hierarchy of his drive... like 15 folders deep.
I'm going to try running Disk Warrior on his drive to see what's up. Maybe somethings broken...

  • Timemachine error message - no explanation

I have just upgraded to Leopard. When I try to use time machine I get a backup failed notification with the extremely unhelpful explanation 'there has been an error". Help refers to making sure that ACLs are on but doesn't say how. I am using a Lacie d2 newly partitioned.

  • Mac OSX server leopard and timemachine

I get an error when trying to use timemachine on the server, it says that there is not enough space to make an backup, but there is plenty of space on the backupdrive.
i think that the problem is size, i have 6 TB of data on my server, so the question is, are the a size limet on how big a disk that timemachine can backup?

Have you run Software Update several times to ensure you've picked up all available updates after upgrading to Snow Leopard?

  • OSX Lion Server/Clients TimeMachine Location

    Dear Community,
I have a problem with Timemachine for OSX Lion Server on a MacMini and hope you can help me out. I have an attached TB drive (Pegasus R6, RAID5) and set up TM sharing for the clients of my small workgroup to this drive. The Backup folder location on the server is /Volumes/Backup-Volume/Shared\ Items/Backups. Everything fine so far, clients can backup into that folder with TM sparsebundles.
My Problem is that when switching "on" TM Backup for the Server itself, I am able to choose the Volume "Backup-Volume", but it backs up to /Volumes/Backup-Volume/Backups.backupdb as a folder, not a sparsebundle.
Don't beat me, I know this is just a cosmetic issue, but why ain't it possible to store them in the same folder, with an equivalent type of structure (sparsebundle/folder). I like to have my system clean and don't like to search on different locations for my backups.
Does anybody know a workaround to manually set the location for Backups, either for clients or server. I don't care which folder it actually is, /Volumes/Backup-Volume/Shared\ Items/Backups/xxx.sparsebundle or /Volumes/Backup-Volume/Backups.backupdb/..., both are fine but it should be consistent.
A different question in this context: If this works out, I will set the HDDs the following way:
    Pegasus:
2*2TB RAID 0 as Share Point "Data-Volume" for fast access, backuped
4*2TB RAID 5 as Share Point "Backup-Volume" as the name indicates for backups :-)
    Mac Mini:
    1*500 GB for OS, backuped
1*500 GB as Share Point "Scratch-Volume" not backuped
    Any objections regarding this setup?
    Thanks, Alex

When you say 'manage', what do you mean?
If you're talking directory services where you're just sorting account credentials that clients use to authenticate, then... oh several thousand... or tens of thousands, because the server is only involved when a user logs in - it validates the user's credentials and passes back details about the user's account.
However, if the user's home directories are also on the server (so the client mounts the user's home directory when they log in) well now you have a file sharing component, and network bandwidth requirements when the user logs in, etc.
Assuming you have 100 active users and a perfect gigabit network (which never, ever happens) then each user is going to get an average of 10mpbs to the server (and to their home directory, for opening/saving files, etc.). Double that to 200 users and you're down to 5mbps each. Consider that most networks never work at more than about 50% efficiency (due to protocol overheads, etc.) and you're down to 2-3mpbs each. That could be an issue.
Of course, if you have 200 users in your directory, but there's only ever 10 or 20 people active at a time those numbers change, but the point is there IS no hard number as to how many clients you can support - it's dependent on multiple factors, and way more than you've listed here.
None of that is directly relevant to whether you need a second machine or not. I'd argue that with 80 users you absolutely need another machine, if only for redundancy's sake if not load. Consider the business impact f that server is offline for any reason and you don't have a spare server to carry the load.

  • Timemachine Error -6584

I switched on my Mac this morning and found I needed to restore a file I mistakenly overwrote yesterday.
I tried Timemachine but received the message "Unexpected Error code -6584". I checked my LG NAS which showed no errors.
I opened both my NAS Volumes in Finder and can find all my files, so was able to retrieve my file.
But Timemachine still refuses to function. I have checked in Preferences, and my backup disk is shown, but although it shows I have 184GB of 974GB available space it shows both Oldest and Latest Backup as none.
Any help in restoring my Timemachine would be much appreciated.
    For Info..
I use a iMac i7 with Mountain Lion.
LG NAS using volumes. Vol1 is 1TB for Timemachine. Vol2 is 2TB for shared network files.

Thanks for the link! Its been very useful.
As my confidence in Timemachine has faded due to the fact that there seems to be no reason for my error it has prompted me to keep more reliable backups in future.

  • Cannot install OSX 10.4 (no valid error message) - why?

Hi everybody. I've been trying to install Mac OS X 10.4 on this G4 Quicksilver, but it seems that it's impossible. When I boot from the CD, it tells me "Mac OS X 10.4 cannot be installed on this computer" and promptly tells me to restart. It doesn't really give a valid error message, not even in the install logs.
I've currently got Mac OS X 10.2.8 installed. Another issue may be the fact it's fitted with 1 GB RAM that runs on a different speed than the other 1 GB, but I doubt it. I really wonder why I can't seem to install the new system, since I seem to meet the requirements pretty easily.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi gja,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
Most disk sets sold on eBay or similar sites are hardware specific software install disks. You CANNOT use hardware specific software install&restore disks that shipped with another computer. These simply do not contain the hardware drivers for any other computer model but the one they originally shipped with. You have to buy the retail full install DVD.
Besides this technical limitation it would also be ILLEGAL (unless you can guarantee and prove that the original owener completely erased it from his computer). Apple's Software License Agreement states in point 2:
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions. A. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time,...
